  • Shooting and discussing my new AR, the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7. Nope, this is not another one of the low-end AR15s like we've recently taken looks at. It's a bit pricy as compared with those; although still not at the highest end.

Anyway, the developer created a range modeled after yours, even including clay pots, so now I can finally live the dream of pot smoking on the hickok45 range!

Late to the comment party, but this is the first AR I bought, pro version with Giselle trigger, for the reasons you stated. Its just goes above and beyond what you would ever need. It still throws a hunk of metal downrange fast. It just does it more reliably with a bit more style.

I love my DDM4V7, it is probably my favorite over my DDM4V5 and BCM/DDV11... I know many people complain about the price of DD, BCM, etc... But I have seen a lot of people buy lesser expensive rifles then change out a bunch of stuff to get it like they want and actually end up with more invested... I love my DD rifles and I would gladly buy another one...

I love muzzle breaks, but only when they are on a firearm that it provides the functionality for which I would use the break: negate muzzle rise to allow faster follow-up shots. So recoil is only indirectly involved with my opinion of muzzle breaks; some may have other reasons for which a break is the best tool to use. I've got a .300 WinMag rifle, a 8mm Mauser, several 7.62x54mm rifles, and a couple of Garands; none of these has a muzzle break on it and I love shooting ever one of them. In my opinion an AR just doesn't require a break, but I do have breaks on my AKs. Although an SKS fires the same round as the AKs, I see a muzzle break as optional because of their weight. So a muzzle break, just like a fire arm, is a tool to be used where it is useful for one reason or another. On the powerful cartridges listed first, if you are recoil sensitive and this causes you to less accurate than you would otherwise be, then the use of the muzzle break would make perfect sense. I even have a muzzle break on one of my fighting pistols.

I think competitive shooters like them on ARs so that they can double-tap targets quicker and such. Not needed on ARs, though, for my purposes. The 5.56 creates plenty of blast and noise as it is.

I've got a Lantac Dragon muzzlebreak, an Elzetta mini CQB weaponlight, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, AimPoint Pro red dot (love the durability), just regular Magpul front & rear flip-up sights for cowitness

Another nice feature is the flared mag well; helps get that mag in there quicker and easier without looking. That gas system helps keep recoil to a minimum so a follow up is quicker without loss of accuracy.

Great review on a fantastic rifle. The integrated QD swivel attachment points are fantastic! I would like to add that DD is the only company in the US of A manufacturing their CHF barrels the way they are. There is no doubt Marty Daniel is making a fantastic product. You need to get your paws on the new DDM4 ISR. The darn thing is quiet and incredibly accurate!!!

@@davidcooper6212 I'm not super familiar with BCM, I hear they make pretty good stuff. The basic differences are barrel, trigger, and upper. I'd suggest to look at the components and see if it's worth the money, DD rifles are a little pricey, but the components are what drives it up.

Just bought a DD MK12! Set me back 2.2K total!….NOT cheap… won’t be able to pay off all my credit card bill until June but really had my eyes on the 12 for a while now. It’s basically that DDM4 lower with a new upper and an 18 inch barrel. A bit heavy with the quad rails but love it…
And the reason I bought it? The same as you. Previously, I already bought a S&W M&P-15. I love it! So accurate, reliable and can spit out everything from 55 grain to NATO M855 green tips. Still, I got my eyes on the 12 since I lay my eyes on it. Such a sexy sexy beast, so comfy and it just feel…feel so right! But mostly, it’s 18 inch barrel, and you can’t beat a DD barrel, with the 1/7 twist means I can shoot anything from 55 grain to 77 grain match grade rounds easy! It’s a bit heavier than my M&P but it’s worth it. Will it replace my M&P? No. I look at them as compliment to each other. One is a Toyota Camery, the other, after I drop 2K more on an ACOG, a good laser designator, MAGPUL grip, light, back up iron sights etc, it will be a Ferrari to end all Ferraris! It’ll be the centerpiece of my firearm collection! I’ll love both they’ll be different but they will be different uses but like you, I’ll love both!
