I sold my FLX 4 and the DDJ 400 and got the DDJ SB3, which remains the best controller. I ditched the rubbish Rekordbox and now I'm using Serato DJ PRO and Virtual DJ. It's a whole different story. DDJ SB3 has the best layout ever.
Nice. I actually used those beginner controllers to DJ for my artist when we perform at small bar sets or with a band because it’s easy setup. Usually a 15 to 30 minutes. USB powered, simple and fits in a DJ backpack.
Thank you for this video. Just got this as my first controller ever and I’m really excited to start messing around with my new toy! After watching this video I feel like I’m straight graduated on this unit hahaha Appreciate the upload very complete and informative!
How’s this controller so far? Been a year since you posted this. Mixing like a master yet? I’m thinking about getting this mixer. Can you give some insight? Thanks.
@@razziade It is so great, hands down for this equipment. It's funny that it says 1 year ago since my comment because I got it around June 2021. Overall feedback: It is lightweight which is convenient if you want to carry it around for your gigs, good set of FX, which brings diversity to your transitions. It functions really well with Serato dj pro, and the 4 deck mode can be really fun once you develop your confidence (although you have to manually jump from deck 1-2 to 3-4). Last year I was spinning at an Afrobeats party (big event) and it served its purpose really well. Good for small or big events!

You can adjust the pitch level with the shift button. 8, 16 and higher. Press and hold the shift, then press the key button until you select your desirable pitch.
Awesome deal brother!! Good to see you again ! Awesome controller !! Looks good and even better with me behind it 🤣. Nah it does have everything for a start though. Good luck !
This controller may fit in the Jet pack drop system. Very portable to take anywhere. I'm still behind, I have a Numark NS7. Like the vinyl feel, but this controller is cool. Nice video Barr.
What are your thoughts on the controllers (platters?) being like this nowadays and not being vinyl? Do you feel they have made it a bit too easy and some of the real skills required on vinyl are lost? Years ago i first started seeing them I thought at they look like something that is for people who can't work vinyl? But I'm not a dj and have no idea what I'm talking about. Just seemed like a bit of dj charm is lost without the vinyl?
this was super helpful!!! i just wanna be a bedroom dj and create dj mixes to stream online for radio. not rly thinking about performing live lol. would serato dj lite be enough?
Been watching your videos! They are awesome! Been wanting to get into djing for a while now. What are some key things I need to know, learn, and things like that?
I love my Pionner DDJ SB3 and I run virtual DJ with the pro infinity license. I know that there is a gold version of this controller where the jog wheels are painted gold.
Hummm🤔 thats the only thing i don't like ... Its too small and its way on top... The Numark mixtrack 3 was the best begginer controller i ever used but the buttons break too easy so now im trying to decide which one to upgrade 🤔
@@javiermeza5086 I used a Mixtrack Platinum from 2015 till just a couple of months ago, playing hundreds of eveents without issue. Nothing broke or missing.
@@javiermeza5086 the 400 is a great entry level controller. Being a smaller controller, it does have shorter pitch faders. They’re also in a standard layout rather than a mirrored configuration like Numark uses.

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a guitar pedal to a dj controller? All I find is examples where a dedicated mixer is required. I really hope it's possible.
I’m a 12 year turntable DJ. I recently purchased this unit and paired it with a small VLZ Mackie analog mixer. I’ve ran my first two weddings recently without a hiccup. My days of hauling big mixing consoles are over. Unless it’s a club gig, I’ll be rocking this guy for everything mobile.
Yes it does .... But you have to do some adjustments to your layout and fx sounds... The only thing about serato lyte software doesn't have all of the samplers sounds so you have to buy the pro version...
I'm looking on updating my DDJ sb 1 I want something Very similar ( I love the 3 FX knob very easy to navigate) but I want somthing bigger in size. Any suggestions?
For me it can NOT be the best controller for beginners as I hate Serato after being used to Traktor and trying Serato every update. So the DDJ-400 would be my go-to controller as it runs Rekordbox which just clicks better with me after being used to Traktor.
There are other and better entry-level controllers that are Serato based. Numark and Hercules have better ones. The DDJSB3 is on the lower end and worth the price. You will end up buying another controller or will not like the limitations this controller has. The Best Controller for Beginners? That one DJs opinion. Beginning DJs: Do your own research. You will see better ones than this.

😢Help how do I record with mic on this controller? I can't seem to record voice only the mix?
I’m debating between this and the ddj400
You don’t have to compromise pitch fader length just because it’s an entry level unit. Numark puts full sized 100mm faders on their units.

Numark Mixtrakk 3 is a very good one... But the buttons seems to break after a while.
I personally sold my Hercules Inpulse 500 and decided to go with the SB3… To each their own I guess.
