Do you think they'll add more streaming options later? I prefer to own my music and play on USB but on the odd occasion I get a gig with a total different style then Tidal is a saviour!
I think modular setups will continue to be present in high profile events. So, big festivals and big clubs who can afford it will likely use it for the fact that they're not left with single points of failure. But, like you mentioned, a lot of times, clubs are not of that size and power. So, these ones will very likely look at this unit as a more viable option that will allow incoming DJs to not feel too disoriented.
So after watching this video, i came to one logical conclusion: the denon dj prime 4 is still the indisputed king of all-in-ones. It beats the AZ on all major features, and mind you it was released back in...2019!
I agree the Prime 4+ feature whise beats the AZ . But in my personal opinion the pio / Alpha - Theta beats the denonns ass feeling whyse . All the pioneer stuff just feels right , sadly all the denon gear feels off somehow , just like the numark ns6 i used to own ..... my 2 cents , no hate here .
Can’t understand how people are so negative about this. People have been calling for a stand-alone 4 channel XZ and they delivered. It’s designed for USB drives with option of laptop, not the other way round….
Perfect design. …. I like(prefer) the position of the performance pads. Definitely an Alpha Theta Product. Great reaction on community feedback. It works perfect for mobile events and as home setup. For me a 4 channel Club mixer and a Omnis Duo would work better… . Mostly I use the mixer …. also with turntables. I love to play Recordbox with DDJ XP2.
Glad this is finally available! Shame it came 3 years later than it should when everyone wanted it! I imagine a lot of places have now given up and bought an opus quad 🤦🏻
This is the new King! Makes my XZ feel dated! When I first got my ZX it had issues which latter firmware updates fixed. I think it will be the same with AZ, as it is with many other players, mixers and controllers. Great review, thanks 🙏
Great video Chris - yours was my go to video. I'm in agreement with you on all of this, I've used the XZ since our lockdown streaming days and I still love it. Defo confused by Alphatheta branding on what is clearly a Pioneer style club layout and if they were keeping the Pioneer brand this would be the one to drop it on so maybe they're sticking to separate club units from now on. I like that the buttons are less busy and least used ones are put into software and think thats one of the big updates in some ways - this looks nice and clean. Am I going to rush to upgrade from the XZ? Well.. after all my anticipation I will do it but I'm not rushing as there aren't enough benefits / changes to spending the difference at the moment (I only use channels 3 and 4 for vinyl). But I am sure once I stand in front of one, I will involuntarily drool, and ultimately cave!
Totally agree with the comments re price. Also, the streaming and connectivity options are miles behind the competition. If AT reduced their prices so it reflected the feature set, which let’s be honest, is not what it should be at this price, then it could be called worthwhile. We as dj’s and the community need to stop this madness that is the AT/Pioneer pricing… I’m not anti AT, only tired of them pushing products that don’t justify the price tag, (in my humble opinion) based on what the competition offers regarding feature set vs price … Thanks for the in depth review Mojaxx
ATPDJ are not aimed at the North American market, thats why you only find Beatport as a streaming service. Imagine if American Djs just boycott Alpha Theta, that would be interesting
I ended up getting a DDJ RZX a few years back because the XZ was never actually in stores. Wish they had dropped this a few years ago. It's awesome, but considering the price point, I feel I may as well just get a new laptop and stick to plugging that into my RZX.
I just sold my RZX to part finance the AZ. It is an amazing bit of kit but the fact that it isn’t V7 RB compatible and therefore unable to use the new and improved stems meant the end of the road for me. I also have a quad and once I have had the new AZ for long enough to judge which I prefer one will be sold.
And their new name is horrible, this is obviously the idea of some new suit in charge that had a great idea of renaming, who in their right mind drops brand recognition like that. Those MBA are useless
@@IamMarkSmithand probably any in development. When they state we’ll see new Pioneer DJ products it’s probably stuff already slated to appear under that name. Maybe already licensed from Pioneer Corp?
Most people still carry USB A flash drives. Yes, I know they have both. I even own two that have A and C that swivel, but we can all agree USB A is still the most used when it comes to flash drives.
usb c is great for small mobile devices obviously but when you’re banking on a usb needing to stay plugged in A is definitely better. Just like I prefer usb b as the connection from the controller to laptop, some have gone to usb c on that and it’s a terrible idea.
Does Pro DJ LINK work via USB in export mode? That was one of the huge downsides for me on my Omnis DUO... It does work on the XDJ XZ, and on the CDJ3000s.
Great review as always ❤ I like the pads where they are and how they are, I knew Alpha Theta or Pioneer Dj (I don’t know which one it is right now) will slap the cdj3000 screen on this and was expecting 4ch. Feedback reducer on mic is missing-perhaps that’s a software thing..Happy days overall..Except price tag.. was it 2500€, it would be worth considering. Since there isn’t much new on this unit, should have been out looong time ago🎉
Alpha theta does not care about the mere mortal users / customers, only big UA-cam channels and people that can help further exposure of their products that in turn persuade people to just buy their equipment without question. I have been there myself so i know what i'm talking about.
Thanks for the great review, I love using the "slip" function, on the XZ every time a new track is loaded this function is turned off, has the AZ got a workaround for this where the function is able to stay on even when loading a new track, I find it super annoying that it automatically turns off every time I load a new track, is there a way to keep this function permanently on or is it not possible?
can people quit complaining about lack of stems? When did gear need stems to be considered good? You're not going to make it far in the industry if you refuse to use gear unless it has stems and you're not a good DJ if you think you need stem separation to mix songs.
It should have record to usb (im not sure if it can do by on the screen) doesn't have stems, no SD card slot... No sound cloud integration or any other strem services except the one they want..
Is there any reason at all to buy this if you are running Serato? I mean to buy an all in one unit with a big screen just to lug around a laptop with it seems crazy. Am I missing something?
Your review IMO is the best on YT, as always. I think this is awesome for a large proportion of Djs, would have personally preferred not to lose the 'Send' to be honest. oh its pretty expensive compared to the XZ too. im not so sure it will be as popular as the XZ. I would be comparing value proposition vs RX3, and if you have ever had a flight case with one of these, they are beasts to move around. (35kg LOL)
Honestly i would love Pioneer to have Mojaxx on board to help lead the design of a few of there next controllers then we might finally get a decent spinning platters unit for Rekordbox :)
The all-in-ones have taken over also because the XDJ lines were not updated anymore. It's not like the marked decided just by itself, Pioneer didn't offer a cheaper modular system like they used to
I’ve personally gotten so sick of the CZ although it’s done me really well, because I’ve had issues with the selector knob going out on me on two of them. All I wanted at least was to be able to swipe for my tracks to give that knob a break and I’m so excited it’s now there! I will miss the vinyl speed knob but I guess I’ll live without it, this is probably the easiest gear purchase I’ll ever make
3 questions… 1 No stems yet? I guess no? 2 Does the 2nd usb port have the ability to record like on the RX3? I guess no? 3 is this suitable to take to a club to use with a void or function1 sound system or are all in one systems still a bit lacking in quality over a dedicated mixer like the 900 nexus 2 or the newer A9?
how can they fail to support more than just beatport? rekordbox has so many more integrations,, this is a miss for me imo and no stems is crazy also how can the grv6 have 3000 style pads but not the 3500 AZ modeled after a 3000? lol
Its almost an XZ but with an improved screen.. 😢 they could have made this so much better - buttons like 3000s instead of pads, usb-c inputs, no stems buttons like the grv-6… no magvel fader, dual usb inputs for dj switchover…etc… im hanging onto my XZ.. not worth the big money increase in my opinion
Finally an worthy replacement for the XZ. But no Magvel and no stems at this price point is a shame imo. I rather stick to my RX3 for the upcoming years...
Two sound card inputs for two laptops & and at least two Ethernet inputs would have made this would have been as close to a perfect controller as they could have got.
Yeah that is why people go an pay a premium for a 4 channel dedicated onboard mixing console just to hook up a computer *LOL* Go buy a REV 7 , DDJ 1000, or GRV6
I'm with you on the cue pads-they should've been like the 3000's. My only other gripe is that it only has one USB for laptop DJs. Most of our non-EDM guest DJs use Serato, so there's no easy laptop switching. :( That's a killer for us since we have three rooms. In the main room, we have four 3000's and an A9, and in the other two rooms, we have aging SZ2's that need to be replaced.
Nice, I love the mechanical jog wheels, best on the market, love the settings, for the faders/x fader, very easy, to select which deck you want, just a click of a button, so can flick through them with ease, low latency is good for the , headphones, I’d say, who cares about the price!! or the name, just mix and play with them excellent effects!! I don’t use x faders, lovely to see more product, choices from alpha theta!!! stems is on Serato, when it drops on the xdc az December 2024....4 channels, alway better than 2.
So to summarise: I'll be sticking with my SC6000s and Xone DB4 for now. The only thing that would tempt me away from this setup might be the convenience of a great all in one but Pioneer, or whatever they call themselves this week, just aren't doing it for me.
The only thing i'm really missing here is 4 line/phono inputs instead of only 2. The moment pioneer/Alpha teta or Denon is coming with such a stand alone piece i'm selling my set except for the tt's...
Can we use this device with an interface? I wish I could detect the data in the interface at the phono input and play the turntable on the extra 2 channels. I think it is only possible with a recordbox.
I am looking at the display and it doesn't seem to have the master deck element that is usually on the top of the screen, which sounds ridiculous when you want mix on 4 decks when you can only see 2 at times. Or am I wrong?
I have an XZ and can't mix from usb stick to the link. Can this? The only reason id upgrade to this is that its newer, all the new features look pointless.
I Serato support going to be laptop only or standalone? Also can it analyze tracks on the fly without a laptop. Also you know what all us anti Pioneer people are waiting for ... that new Xone:92 review... lol
Have been waiting for this. Somewhat disappointed it does not have dual USB connections for easy laptop changeovers but otherwise a solid upgrade for the XZ.

So after watching this video, i came to one logical conclusion: the denon dj prime 4 is still the indisputed king of all-in-ones. It beats the AZ on all major features, and mind you it was released back in...2019!
If only being a denon user wasn't twice the work when preparing tracks.
@@aaronb9630😂true… Le sigh.
@@aaronb9630 it is no different than other software.

100% agree on the pads location. The lay of consistency on the pad locations between the standalones and the modular gear makes no sense to me.
I really like this controler, Im probably goin to buy one..
Said no one
Can’t understand how people are so negative about this. People have been calling for a stand-alone 4 channel XZ and they delivered. It’s designed for USB drives with option of laptop, not the other way round….
Exactly i think a lot of it is people are salty. They have either bought the Opus or still own the XZ either way i would feel the same lol
Perfect design. …. I like(prefer) the position of the performance pads.
Definitely an Alpha Theta Product.
Great reaction on community feedback.
It works perfect for mobile events and as home setup.
For me a 4 channel Club mixer and a
Omnis Duo would work better… .
Mostly I use the mixer …. also with turntables. I love to play Recordbox with
DDJ XP2.
Perfect design?, it have had this layout since early 1990s ffs
DJM 500 and CDJ 500 the alfather of DJM and CDJ
Glad this is finally available! Shame it came 3 years later than it should when everyone wanted it! I imagine a lot of places have now given up and bought an opus quad 🤦🏻
Funny thing is that my five years old Ipad is more powerful than this sad thing of a controller
We as dj’s and the community need to stop this madness that is the AT/Pioneer pricing… I’m not anti AT, only tired of them pushing products that don’t justify the price tag, (in my humble opinion) based on what the competition offers regarding feature set vs price …
Thanks for the in depth review Mojaxx
ATPDJ are not aimed at the North American market, thats why you only find Beatport as a streaming service.
Imagine if American Djs just boycott Alpha Theta, that would be interesting
I ended up getting a DDJ RZX a few years back because the XZ was never actually in stores. Wish they had dropped this a few years ago. It's awesome, but considering the price point, I feel I may as well just get a new laptop and stick to plugging that into my RZX.
RZX was released 8 years ago now and is not a standalone unit.
*”Pioneer DJ is not going away”, they said.*
RIP Pioneer
And their new name is horrible, this is obviously the idea of some new suit in charge that had a great idea of renaming, who in their right mind drops brand recognition like that. Those MBA are useless
Not until they replace all of their older products with new ones branded as Alpha Theta.
Who cares what they are called really? Does it impact your ability to mix music?
@@IamMarkSmithand probably any in development. When they state we’ll see new Pioneer DJ products it’s probably stuff already slated to appear under that name. Maybe already licensed from Pioneer Corp?
My guess for hanging on to USB A is that it has one advantage over USB C: it physically connects more secure
Yeah for robustness USBC sucks. I'm very glad they've kept USB A.
Most people still carry USB A flash drives. Yes, I know they have both. I even own two that have A and C that swivel, but we can all agree USB A is still the most used when it comes to flash drives.
I'm with you on that. usb c isn't as secure.
agreed!
usb c is great for small mobile devices obviously but when you’re banking on a usb needing to stay plugged in A is definitely better. Just like I prefer usb b as the connection from the controller to laptop, some have gone to usb c on that and it’s a terrible idea.
As i said at the time. The Pioneer name is dead. Great vid as usual mate 🫡🫡
Looks dope but I’m holding off on investing in a standalone set up until they add stems. Basically a must have for any gear I buy at this point
@@allentastic you can still use stems on this unit. Just map the functionality to the pads.
@@ALTERNATIVEMIXTAPES only if you use it with a laptop, which defeats the purpose of having a standalone, in my opinion
Dam I was waiting for this one…. But now, I’ll keep my opus quad for sure.
Great review. Thanks for this.
Does Pro DJ LINK work via USB in export mode?
That was one of the huge downsides for me on my Omnis DUO...
It does work on the XDJ XZ, and on the CDJ3000s.
Always on point!!!
Simple answer, it is NOT the new king of "all in one's" weighed up across all parameters. That title is STILL for the Denon Prime 4 series.
Thanks! Always useful insights!
Love my xz, only thing that would warrant a upgrade for me would be the beatport streaming without the laptop.
Agree with Mojaxx's points, especially about the performance pads. Moving them up would make the unit look more like an upgrade from the XZ
Great review. Seems like a solid product. That price though 😳
Not my weapon of choice, but looks like it would be fun to use. Thanks for the :review - good to understand in case I’m ever faced with it…
4:35 Loving the logo edit there.
So the same shit but for 3200.00 dollars, pass good luck selling that not inpress at all
right more garbage.
Prime 4 cheaper and does more other than wireless headphones.
@@tamparey813 what would you guys like to see on a standalone controller?
can people quit complaining about lack of stems? When did gear need stems to be considered good? You're not going to make it far in the industry if you refuse to use gear unless it has stems and you're not a good DJ if you think you need stem separation to mix songs.
Yeah I agree. It’s good that they didn’t fuck about with silly features and rather focused on what matters
Play / Cue / Pitch
$3000 please
It should have record to usb (im not sure if it can do by on the screen) doesn't have stems, no SD card slot... No sound cloud integration or any other strem services except the one they want..
If there was a rotary version I’d be happy 😉
Then you have to DIY MOD yourself
Is there any reason at all to buy this if you are running Serato? I mean to buy an all in one unit with a big screen just to lug around a laptop with it seems crazy. Am I missing something?
Is one able to build/edit playlists directly in standalone mode?
@@bigdaz7272 the dream! (Spinning platters, not working for AlphaTheta, haha)
I will miss the vinyl speed knob but I guess I’ll live without it, this is probably the easiest gear purchase I’ll ever make
Thanks for a great review. I have the XZ and the RX3, and will definitely be adding this to the collection.
It’s sad that XZ is the only one with send/return now. 😭
Is the unit "Class compliant". As in working with iOS?
The pads really make me unconfortable, why there again? Why not like the 3000’s ou Opus? Otherwise, amazing unit
CDJ 3000 / Opus are Hotcues, XDJ lineup are Performance Pads, hard plastic cue buttons does not stand the test of time
3 questions…
1 No stems yet? I guess no?
2 Does the 2nd usb port have the ability to record like on the RX3? I guess no?
3 is this suitable to take to a club to use with a void or function1 sound system or are all in one systems still a bit lacking in quality over a dedicated mixer like the 900 nexus 2 or the newer A9?
stems no. Records on both usb's. Also has 32 bit audio tech
This vs the prime 4+?
This one is more expensive and had less features.
Great review, MoJaxx. It's not flying the PioneerDJ tag because AT can charge $3,200 for a $2,500 - $2,800 controller. IMO.
how can they fail to support more than just beatport? rekordbox has so many more integrations,, this is a miss for me imo and no stems is crazy also how can the grv6 have 3000 style pads but not the 3500 AZ modeled after a 3000?
@@deeejay1054 Opus Quad has buttons instead of pads
It is a updated XZ, cause ATPDJ could not source enough components for the vanilla XZ, they had to do something
@@SundTFörnuft yeah guess so… but is it worth the extra money to upgrade though
Does it also require Device Library Plus like the Opus? Also, I wish it kept the rotary loop control of the Opus.
Yeah that is why people go an pay a premium for a 4 channel dedicated onboard mixing console just to hook up a computer *LOL*
Go buy a REV 7 , DDJ 1000, or GRV6

does it have the magnetic lock on the color fx knobs?
XDJ-XZ (plus a 3rd deck) is still all i need!
Smaller companies are going traditional, which I am all for vinyl upgradable faders, which we all know channel and cross faders wear away fast.

I'm listening @ work and my hand instinctively moved to my mouse to close the tab.
You got me, I fell off.

Is the top panel platic or metal like the xdj xz? Thanks
No Ableton Link in standalone?
Why are the performance pads below the jog wheel? Probably so they can reuse old hardware and make an extra $200 a unit.
Because this is a performance unit. CDJ 3000 / Opus Quad are not, why do you think James hype still are on CDJ 2000 NXS2?
Does this have a sampler function to load your own sound FX and can you link echo to faders ?
Hi thx for video, when in performance mode can you use DVs?
So to summarise: I'll be sticking with my SC6000s and Xone DB4 for now. The only thing that would tempt me away from this setup might be the convenience of a great all in one but Pioneer, or whatever they call themselves this week, just aren't doing it for me.
The Rane Performer blows this thing away. Next.
yeah true. the standalone capatibilities of the performer are just next level
Is the rane performer released yet ?
The only thing i'm really missing here is 4 line/phono inputs instead of only 2. The moment pioneer/Alpha teta or Denon is coming with such a stand alone piece i'm selling my set except for the tt's...
CAN YOU USE DJS-1000 WITH THIS STAND ALONE AND WILL IT SYNC?
the GRV6 looks way more tempting than these one. STEMS!!!

Actual LOL @ 6:16 😂 you rule @mojaxx
He honestly had me for a second there.
