Early signs of dementia
My uncle(from ireland)used to work on fishing boat in alaska, he just started a new contract maybe about a month before the exon valdez sank, so my uncles contract go payed off for the rest of what was left and he went working on the clean up, he made a nice lump of money:)

Just had a look, it’s only around 2° in the areas where you went.
Quite chilly, even more so if it’s just above freezing.
Stay warm, hope you used one of these radiation heat lights they seemed to have there on the ferry.

No. He's just tired. He was up most of the night hoping it would clear (it was partly cloudy on the ride to Cordova) so he could get coverage of the aurora borealis. No luck. The mountains hold the cloud cover down so it doesn't disperse quickly.

Nice video Shoestring. I love ferries! I definitely gotta check out this Alaskan one for sure. You mentioned NFLD a few times now. I did that trek twice. Once in November and once in March some years back. It was choppy waters to say the least. Then had to drive a truck for 900kms to St John's in misty foggy weather. I was a zombie when I arrived...lol But the awesome seafood dinners woke me right up. Alaska seems like a similar surreal dream place. Now I know why you've gone there 33 times..

Cool video. You might want to make different plans other than goldpanning here in Fairbanks. We're having a late spring and everything is still under thigh deep snow and thick ice.
I probably shouldn't tell Shoestring and you all this story but it was in 1982 and I don't really care anymore. Three of us were taking a shitload of western Washington pot up to Sitka and because of the roughest crossing of the Queen Ann Straights in the Ferry system's history and damage to the Matanuska Ferry we took the Aurora to Sitka from Ketchikan a few days later.
On the Aurora we stepped outside for a pre dinner joint or two and were having a good ole time when over the loud speaker we heard "would the 3 gentlemen smoking marijuana in front of the kitchen air intake fan please step aside?' Oh Shit! Of course we did and finished our business. But when we got to the cafeteria, the kitchen crew started clapping and laughing and thanked us for the free token buzz we gave them.

When you were scanning your camera trying to find the dall sheep towards the very end of your search I seen the sheep just to the right of the last evergreen tree shown . You passed over them pretty quick.

Set the Nellie sheep up in the side of the hill is taking a leak that's what that waterfalls is they hold their water for quite a while

Maybe a silly correction, but generally what's on the mountains at Turnagain Arm are Mountain Goats. The Dall Sheep are further north on the way to Denali. When I was a Tour Guide on the AK railroad we always would let people know they were Mountain Goats. Easier to tell through binoculars

All my life, I've never liked drinking root beer. The other day, I got an ice cold Barqs root beer, and I loved it. Don't know how or why, but it just clicked all of a sudden in my 30s. That rats name in TMNT is Splinter. I was really into TMNT! Go ninja, go ninja, go! 😂

We have been to Cordova, an awesome place. The ferry ride there was fine, however, the return trip to Valdez at night during a big storm was insane. Very, very rough water for the entire 6-7 hour trip. Talk about 'sea legs' on land!! Broke my wrist while out travelling in a small town few years ago, chose an ambulance to nearest hospital and was given some fentynal for pain. When it kicked in, I talked to EMT about the crazy ride in gulf of Alaska! The Ferry cabinet doors were flapping back and forth, and swaying from one side to another for hours. Glad it was nighttime or definetly would have freaked out at seeing the waves. Haha

G'day Hobo, If you come Down Under to check out the aurora australis make sure you go to the pilbara and take a look at the BHP Iron ore trains that can be over four and a half miles long and weigh as much as one of your aircraft carriers 👍.

I've been to Cordova (mall) in Jacksonville, FL but not to AK. I think another good item for Shoestring is a satellite phone/beacon for emergencies.
