    If you're feeling up to it, a Mocha series would be incredible. One that even later delves in to the part that Mocha plays in more advanced VFX workflows. A tutorial series built on a progressive learning system of skill and knowledge up to the more advanced stages could be valuable.

      FWIW, i find AE's point tracker is only reliable under ideal conditions. Mocha's planar tracker always works when there is a plane surface to track.
      Something I struggle with is when the plane extends beyond the screen. Is there a technique to "extend" Mocha's tracking when this happens?

    sometimes it happens that when finishing tracking, surface planner doesn't fit precisely or moves away from exact point. so, you can go to the "AdjustTrack" bar (do as at 7:12 in this video & see bottom left to find AdjustTrack ), when go to AdjustTrack you will find the four corner pins turned red corner pin. now move these red corner pins wherever you want precisely and when you move these corner pins they will add their keyframe and you can precisely fit your logo, text whatever.

    Tip for you. In case you don't know! For roto this type of situation you need to link your Roto track layer.. to get better roto without tracking frame by frame. What I mean by that you already tracked a finger shape to tell mocha not to track this area. Well you can use that track to drive your Roto shape as well..

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 років тому

      It's a great tip. I usually use that method in my roto work. In this case, my garbage matte on the finger needed more manual tweaking when the finger deformed in certain spots so the track wouldn't have been super accurate for locking on to. But, we'll definitely get into all that in a later tutorial.

    • @Gireshahid33
      @Gireshahid33 5 років тому

      @@ECAbrams sometimes you need to single track method but most of the time the link to track method give you the General motion.
      When I try to roto something in mocha I always first do a link to track method.. than the Other single track as we all know.. 😀

    How can I do this if I only have an edited image of the first video-frame?
    The image I grabbed from my video, is taken from an angle, so it's not "square". It's skewed/distorted.
    I know it's not the best explanation but I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me.
    Edit:
    Solved this by simply, checking the proportions and then skewing the image to the right proportions in Photoshop.
    Figured I'll edit the comment in case anyone has the same problem.

    First of all, LOVE your tutorials so much! Thanks for the years of creative information! I’m having a lot of trouble trying to track a record after I drop it. I basically enter the frame holding a white record jacket and then drop it about 3 inches to a chromakey green table top. Every time I drop it goes wonky! Is there a way to correct it as it goes along? If I make corrections it seems to throw off everything prior.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 роки тому

      Interesting. Is there significant motion blur in the footage? Or perhaps a lack of texture in the subject?

    • @Fredo_Viola
      @Fredo_Viola 3 роки тому

      No, actually I shot with a very fast frame rate to ensure less motion blur. I just had a chat with a designer friend who believes it’s due to the fact that the record is white, and you can see the shadows of my hands on the cover. His suggestion was fir me to reshoot with a pattern, rather than blank white. Do you think that could be the problem?

    • @Fredo_Viola
      @Fredo_Viola 3 роки тому

      Oh, and FYI, it’s 4K footage shot with my Sony A7Siii, transcoded first into 422hq, but then I tried h264 as well.. same outcome.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 роки тому +1

      @@Fredo_Viola The issue is always texture. So, if it's h264, 422, lossless, whatever, it doesn't substantively change the content. Mocha needs patches of predictable texture to attach to. So if the record is effectively textureless, or the only dominant feature on it is your hand or shadows caused by your hand, which will move in relation to the actual thing you want to track, those should be removed from the calculation.
      You might try actually excluding those things with masks to see if you can get mocha to only consider the record surface that is unchanged. A little like how we want to remove foreground occlusions when tracking background objects.

    • @Fredo_Viola
      @Fredo_Viola 3 роки тому

      I tried including the shadows and it didn’t make a difference, so I just drew many crossed lines along the top third of the album, where the hand shadows aren’t showing up, and reshot. Would that be enough if a pattern for Mocha to latch into?

    can you still use mocha without square shape presence? like curvature or just want to track certain point like finger point for example

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 років тому

      you can make splines of any shape. Geometric. Organic. Anything. But it's not really for points. It tracks areas and textures in patches. So if you have a point you want to track you would need to draw a spine patch that encompasses that point. That's the main difference between point and planar tracking.

    Trying to track an image to a phone screen in a stock video and the tracking data keeps squashing (it's squish about 75% vertically) the .png image I made in PS specifically for this purpose. Will keep plunking away but damn, Mocha and AE have so many unsaid rules and tricks that absolutely crush attempts at trying to better understand the programs. I'm no novice, but no expert, and sometimes I just want to throw my computer into a river.

      Alright, I figured out a way to work around this. I realized the video source is 4k set at 50% in a 1080p comp, so I precomped that, and then I created a new solid and used that to apply the tracking data, then parented my photoshopped .png to the solid and BAM. DONE.

    I want to ask, if I mask the mouth area, can the masking area follow the motion of the lips?

      I think, and i may be wrong, but I think there have been updates to use something called a tracking mesh. I'll have to do an update soon I think.

    Curious about how you did the finger's shadow?

      In this case, I think they just look shadowed because of the motion blur. Ordinarily I would be masking that area as well, or creating shape roto'ed to match the area.

    Man... this is the first time I have not been able to get the right results. I have tried a few times, and I can't get my image to move with the tracked data. I am sure it is something I am doing, but I have no clue what it is. I think I need a super beginner for dummies video.

      @@ECAbrams In the wrong place. I looked into Mocha further, I didn't realize that it was pretty much for flat surfaces, I was doing it on a shirt. It doesn't work well with it. Oh, well. :)

      @@LetsGoRoadTrippin yeah, you'll want to use a warp method. But planar tracking can certainly help.

      @@ECAbrams I might have to look into it. It is not a big push, I was just playing around with Mocha :D
