Becoming an editor today is really a blessing, I can't imagine the horrors of warping layers or tracking points frame-by-frame, it just sounds so exhausting.
Fun Fact: For 1968's the love bug, animators hand tracked and hand painted out wires frame-by-frame in the "lake jumping" scene. This was before computers.
Pretty much what I had to do for my short film. All my gunshots were hand crafted, with no auto assistance. Yeah I probably could have found a way to have automated it. Yet making everything from scratch is very rewarding. Especially when having so many aspects, such as the muzzle flash, background light (biggest pain), barrel smoke, and bolt smoke, as well as making the fake smoke react to different colors.... It's so fun, but very exhaustive.
@@Uhfgood I currently plan on posting it to a separate channel, since I made a person angry in a comment section and they dislike bombed all my videos lmao. However it should be up on another channel sometime next week (once I get the account setup and verified).
For anybody who is having an issue where there is a delay to the tracking with a weird deformation or something like that make sure that YOU DO NOT trim your footage !!! It took me 3 hours to realize the reason i had this problem was because i was trimming my footage. Do everything as he does in the video but DO NOT trim your clip. It will work !
Just wanna thank you for all your great videos.Saw round about 10 years ago your video about a Harry potter effect and liked it so much that i started to create effects by my own. I became a FX Artist for movies the last years and starting now with fx for videogames. Thanks again for all your great work
This blows my mind. Much like when content aware fill made it to photoshop, I think this will be a gamechanger for indie filmmakers looking to up their production value for little cost.
Quite. And the (non) sponsor’s instruction in editing trailers has nothing to do with the technical, along with life experience required to edit feature films and documentaries. Unless you want everything to look hyped and manic that is.
For those who are having trouble and their mesh isn't tracking. You need to make sure you precomp all of your footage before attempting any of this. I was having trouble and after i precomped both my footage and tattoo, it worked (thank fuck)
Question: David Fincher uses digital blood almost exclusively, including running/actively bleeding wounds (See: Girl with Dragon Tattoo - Daniel Craig's bleeding head cut). How could we use these techniques to create simulated flowing blood? Glad to see your videos again!
That’s an interesting application. Usually stock blood is filmed running down a smooth surface. It’d be really cool if this effect would make the blood contour to different shapes as it went. It probably would. 🤔
That's a full fluid simulation with a 3D model underneath the footage - much higher level stuff, and requires VFX expertise and a lot of time to pull of convincingly.
@@TheBoeboe Not necessary. Just do like Ethan said and use the liquify tool or any other layer warping tool to warp the blood around the contour for the key frame.
Holy crap! This is the first video I’ve seen from them in forever. And trust me I was always looking for a long time. I love these videos from this channel please do more.
i was having a problem to make my video, I had the problem for days and I didnt know how to fix it and this video SOLVED the problem, thank you very much!
Followed this step by step, meticulously, and simply won't move. Choosing "stabilize warp" made the tattoo distorted and sit out of place. "Lens undistortion" puts it back in the ballpark where it belongs, but it simply isn't following where the mesh should be. This happening with anyone else, and remedy?
You mentioned lessons on editing a trailer and now I gotta see it. I wonder if it would make my current trailer better. I'm still happy dancing at it though lol
@@Some__Rando Mesh tracking is there in Avid version but only useful for roto due to limitations in Media Composer's compositing workflow. We hope to have the Mesh Insert working in Avid soon.
7:11 - Hollywood is going to be the biggest consumer for all the crazy A.I. techniques that are constantly being developed. Almost every video that Two Minute Papers puts out makes me think of the amazing things that filmmakers will be able to do with them. 🤯 Some day, people will be able to generate an infinite amount of bespoke entertainment. 🤔
This is incredible, you know how much easier my life would have been if After Effects CS4 in 2008 had this when I first started using After Effects!? lol
Sometimes I worry that I'm wasting my time learning a software because it could be made irrelevant in 6 months to it's superior replacement. This is tech I didn't expect to be this simple so soon.
My jaw is on the floor. I mean...you probably make it look a bit easier that it really is but DAMN, those results. It's unbelievable! Can't wait for this to become affordable in like 5 years! :D
I love that Mocha Pro has also introduced a monthly payment model. There are times where I have the need for something like this, but it's not that often, and it's not reasonable for me (personally) to drop nearly $700 for something I would use occasionally. I would much rather pay the $40ish to "rent" the software for a month when I need it.

Painting over Joker's makeup looked SO FUN
As a VFX artist, this is INSANE. The work load looks super minimal, and the result is amazing
Becoming an editor today is really a blessing, I can't imagine the horrors of warping layers or tracking points frame-by-frame, it just sounds so exhausting.
This kind of work was exhausting! In the mid 90's one VFX shot could easily take from 1 day to a full week. ;)
