Crossbow was actually my scripted weapon for this Ranger and would have worked in much the same way. If they dont give us a rifle/musket I hope for a Crossbow.
Honestly I reckon we'll get a hybrid of Gambler/Juggler/Trickster. Uses darts, knives, dice or other thrown weapons we saw those jobs/setzer use. Unlikely to get thrown cards as they conflicts with Astro. Their abilities will revolved around tricks/gambles, and their attacks are various variations on throwing their projectiles. Throw a fan of knives/darts in a cone. Fits nicely glamour wise into the role as we already have a number of "performer" themed sets thanks to bard and dancer.
You honestly might be right. They said they need to look beyond for the next job, but that could even mean looking back and combining 3+ jobs together with weapons from the series.
These are some neat ideas! I want to share my ideas of mild tweaks to these ideas, then 3 jobs I'd personally love to see. For the Chemist (which I'll call Apothecary because IIke the sound of it and the abrivuation of APO), the mix ability could act a little like Ninja mudra and dancer dances. You select it and it brings you to preset "ingredients" that you pick to alter the characteristics of the potion. Single target or AoE, Burst or damage over time, then debuff or potency boost. And to add more flavor, perhaps have a 'stock' ability where you store a potion to use later without mixing, so you can apply your DoT mixture that way, apply your debuff mix (damage dealt reduced? Or perhaps damage taken increased?) On another timer. This would make you "create" the potion in battle and I'd love it! For Ranger, I just hard agree all the way. My first suggestion is SUPER close to the idea, i admit, just different flavor wise. So to my 3 own ideas. Time Battlemage (TBM), inspired by ff12's unique take on Time Mages. Using a crossbow, this class focuses more on cast time attacks than the others, having a trait that let's them move slower while casting but still be able to move (for speed comparison, think PvP when Bard LB is up and firing) and having other abilities that can be used while casting attacks by manipulating Time and space for those attacks. This gives the slow Sniper feel that, imo, is missing from ff14 and the potential is insane. Gambler (GBL) is inspired from ff6s Setzer, but also with a unique concept of luck manipulation at its core. Using darts as a weapon, the Gambler can use various gambling themes for its attacks and use a job gauge, Lucky Streak, to empower various attacks. Rather than lean on RNG, you lean into the myths surrounding luck. Example, you can "Poker Down" and have a full house effect deal damage, but when empowered by Lucky Streak, you get "Read and Weep!" And it's a royal flush instead, dealing more damage. It would be thematically fun, have a few options for creative skills, and the LB of a giant slot machine getting a jacapot and raining coins on your enemy is too fun! Blitzballer (BZB) is a popular one, straight from ffx. Leaning into the atheletic theme, this class can be the ranged dps of Monks speed wide, having a lower GCD and keeping up abuff, Hype, to make it 2.0 speed. Having 4 button single target and 3 button aoe combos gives it a "show off" flair, having quick mobility to reposition fast, and an "Ace' mechanic that acts like danger's dancing mixed with Reaper's Enshroud (you activate it then alternate the attacks for more damage) will make it stand out as the speed junkies choice for ranged DPS.
Your idea for Chemist sounds super appealing and would be a simple yet effective solution to making it work well, especially since the concepts have been oroven with Nin and Dnc. Blitzballer was right beside Chemist in my choices and I still love the idea of such a job and you and others share the passion for the job idea. Amazing writeup, TBB!
You are not alone. We have all speculated about such a job for years as all the parts are there. A tank though sounds interesting in this regard as some blitzballers do need to get up anf close for those tackles XD
For Chemist we do have a system that could be used for its mixing. It could function similarly to how Ninja's mudra's work. As well for Ranger they could do the slow walk casting that you see in PVP for their shooting. Making them more mobile than magic casters but not forced to completely stand still. I could see them also having two different main dps abilities. I'll call them "Aimed Shot" and "Hipfire". "Aimed Shot" is a slow walk cast dealing high damage while "Hipfire" is instant cast but has much more reduced potency. It allows ranger to still move like the other ranged dps for boss mechanics but they still want to prioritize moving as little as possible for max dps
Aimed Hot and Hipshot would make for a very interesting combination with the Ranger job, mixing in elements of FPS into an MMORPG :) I think I recall some games, I think Wildstar?
Personally, if they do go phys ranged, I'm hoping for something weird. I could see a play on Puppet Master or Trainer, focused around a pet/pets, kinda like an offensive SCH but fully built around split damage, and positioning to buff/debuff and damage. Another one I liked was Corsair, kinda like a mixed ranged melee Pirate kind of aesthetic, that would also fit sharing gear with Ninja, could do some fun stuff with that, plus it could fix the noticeable lack of water based damage abilities. And speaking of water, no FFX fan isn't gonna suggest a Blitzball class but that would almost require the introduction of debuffs, or it could be made into a fully DoT based, death by 1000 cuts sort of job to switch it up while still fitting the Wakka aesthetic.
The Pirate/Swashbuckler has been the dream ever since FFXIV first launched. They were talking about it even before 1.0 launched. I for one would love such a job, I'm just not sure what role it would fill aside from Melee, and we likely wont see another Melee DPS for a good while if at all. Your idea for a Blizball job lines up with that of the playerbase, but I do like the idea of it being a dot job making their target suffer with each major blow with the ball :)
@@WyrmLimion Yeah, I could totally see them going the Corsair route and making a Pirate mixed melee/phys ranged job, maybe similar to RDM with a melee and ranged mixed playstyle or aomething since it would match Merlwyb. I just really want a job with some strong water aesthetics on top of pirates just being cool, I can imagine the artifact gear. And I just like how weird a Blitzball job could be, and the glam options. I need it lol.
I believe they mentioned something about Chemist and how they believe it would be harder to distinguish them, language wise, from the Alchemist crafting class, especially since Alchemist literally just means "The Chemist" Which is why I believe they should spin it and call it more like "Bombardier" or "Apothecary"
Fully agreed. Back in SHB there was discussions about Chemist being a combat offshoot of the Alchemist. Its still possible. Apothecary sounds like a great fitting FF name 😍
Bravely Default attemps such differentation with 'Salve-Maker', but be it Apotechary, Bombardier or even Potioneer, I am confident the localization personnel would make it work, even consindering three letter abbreviation. I really see it as a hannish-originated job class!
I can see Chemist's mix ability being a "mix" between Ninja's mudra and Astrologian's card system. Where each mudra would act as a random Chemist's material under each mudra color, and being able to hold on to them like Astro's card. And you can collect them up to 3/4, certain combinations do specific things but you're not required to have max amount, but the more and diverse combinations you have the powerful they become.
The next potential ranged DPS also needs to have a decent storyline to explain the nature of the job. So that’s also part of the challenge. Personally I don’t think Chemist will be available as a ranged DPS, but who knows. I think Blitzballer might be cool though because it’s been a proven thing you can use the ball as a ranged weapon and is unique than using other ranged weaponry. Just have to modify the job for XIV’s play style. I think Wakka is a good reference. Or really the game itself from X.
Others have mentioned a Blizball job could be added the same time as it being added as a new Gold Saucer addition. It could be an ancient sport brought over from The New World as as we play a veteran sees our potential and says we can learn the combat aspect of the sport. Kinda like how some Martial arts have a discipline for sport and tournaments and another for potentially lethal hand to hand engagements.
Really good to see racket as weapon! It eluded me, having conceptualized Garnet and Eiko's use of it as 'staves'; another weapon like it would be Vanille's binding rods in 13, which have always confused me: part staff, part whip and also a...fishing rod?
Personally i'd like the chemist to be a healer but i like your idea!. Personally, hoping for a hunter like class seeing i came from WoW and how beast masters are a thing in both WoW and prior Final Fantasy games. Ideally the hunter/Beastmaster could be either ranged or melee but for the purposes of making this comment short i will only speak of the ranged weapons. ideally i could see it wielding a long rifle, a long bow or pistol, or even pistol hunting knife/dagger combo. But these are already used by the machinist and while i love the idea of classes being able to share weapon types i'm sure some are not, So a few others i can suggest would be the slingshot and blow dart, or hand throwing axes.
I love the idea of Chemist as a healer. I still remember the minutes to until Sage was announced. Chemist was being spammed in chat :) While machinist does have a gun, its mainly centred around its tools and equipment unlike a pure Gun wielding job. There is still an open slot for a gun specialist.
I made this video very early before any news released regarding Endwalker. I plan to do a live stream before NA Fanfest this month to go over my top pics again and also hear everyone else's I look forward to seeing if I was anywhere close if we end up getting a Ranged DPS
I love all your ideas for new jobs so far, but I would be very disappointed if they added a new tank or healer when those roles really need help atm. Yoshi should keep adding DPS jobs until tank and healer role is fixed. Also I'm sad that Yoshi's team is only going to focus on FF14 unique jobs because that means I may never see Corsair, Puppet master nor Beast master. But if they can surprise us with some new very unique jobs I'm willing to take that loss.
a rifle based ranger would be cool; and I love your spin on the chemist. I am glad you mentioned the Musketeer class hall sitting with cobwebs and moths in Limsa. I SITLL HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOSHI P
I would like to add onto the musketeer/ranger idea. The banner shows it with 2 handguns. What if the class has to swap stances between a fast GCD stance that focused on 2 guns with single weave oGCDs and a Rifle with a slow hard hitting GCD, double weaving OGCD. Could even make the rifle a cast style stance similar to how Gauss Barrel used to work with MCH back in Heavensward.
I love this idea Kahl! You could even make it a sort of hybrid job with the pistols being closer range and the rifle having max range, even higher than the other jobs max attack range.
For your Chemist idea I would actually like a slingshot more than a racket! Imagine slinging your potions or medicine packs at people and shout "freacking take it!! >:O" I would really like your Ranger idea, but I would find it odd if we would get the Coral Tower Connection tied to a Ranger, would rather take a pirate class with that Musket/Rifle idea. Or take the Pirate theme and use a whip as a new weapon
Nice video! I love speculation discussions. Of the two you presented, I would lean toward the Chemist. I was among the number who expected the Chemist as a Healer, but I think it works just as well as a Ranged DPS. I believe it would need to come in with an adjustment to Bard that would see BRD lose its DoT skills, which are largely superfluous now and never really suited the job fantasy anyway, and CHM would be the new DoT focused DPS like BRD and SMN used to be. I think the Ranger idea is just too similar to MCH to make much sense IMO.
Appreciated Zenbear! Chemist has been the dream of many for years now, and its the sort of job that can be modified into a number of roles. I hope down the line when that new jobs announced, that a splash of mixed items appears onscreen with the Chemist becoming reality!
it should be a blitzball player like Wakka from FFX. and it will all make sense especially when they one day add blitzball as a minigame in the gold saucer. one day.
One day. Honestly its one of the most requested features to Gold Saucer. I also had an idea about a Blitzball job. Remember in FFX when they strike the ball its always in a way that the ball with come back to them. This job could work like that, the ball coming back being timed procs or even multiple procs that do different things like strike AOE or single target. The mental image of a Blizball job just bouncing this ball back and forth off a boss is amazing :)
It will probably be a job sharing the scouting gear with Nin. If you look at all past expansions it wasn’t always about the fact of what’s missing but to had jobs who would appeal to most people , long range and close range. Tank/melee dps and caster/range dps /healer. Adding double range dps caster and physical won’t appeal to everyone caus not everyone loves the same play style. Heavensward : close Drk and range Mch/AST. Stormblood : Close Samurai and range Rdm . Shadowbringer : Close Gnb and range Dnc Endwalker : close Reaper and range Sage. In this way it will appeal more then one play style and yeah that’s why Melee scouting and casting are most probable.
Ninja is the only job right now that doesn't share left gear with anyone, and considering they share right gear with range, I strongy think that the next range dps will share left gear with ninja.
That'll be odd given that currently, all the ranged DPS share gear with each other. I would think a new Ranged DPS would be the same. Ninja should share their gear with a new melee dps, but we're already overloaded with melee dps as it is: 5 melee dps, to 4 tanks, 4 healers, and 4 casters (if you include BLU). At 3, ranged DPS is coming up short, and if you exclude BLU, then casters are coming up just as short. That makes these the most likely categories to get new jobs unless SE rejimmies how jobs are classed again.
While I love my ranged jobs I still think there's one possibility that's not accounted for here: A new Scouting job. Before they mentioned their justification for adding Reaper even though we had a lot of melee already. That being that Dragoons didn't have to really compete for gear in the way most other jobs did. Wouldn't it then make sense that they'd add a job that shares gear drops with Ninja? Now being that Ninja uses Dex as a primary stat it could still mean the new job will be ranged but maybe more of a hybrid similar to Red Mage. I wouldn't mind seeing a job that's constantly in and out of melee using combo attacks from either distance to empower attacks for the opposite. Ranger could possibly fit this since in many fantasies they tend to be efficient with both melee and ranged weapons. However, I wouldn't mind seeing that Musketeer's guild in Limsa finally getting some use. Possibly a job that uses a sword or axe in one hand and a pistol in the other. Could even have your idea of the Musketeer's guild having moved away and some old acquaintance comes back to revive it. Thus, keeping the job's unlock point in one of the starting cities like they've been doing for years. It would then make for an easy transition into a new 7.0 area where maybe this same Musketeer's guild is the hub for Hunt Marks and/or a gathering point for 7.0 Role Quests.
I want to see the continue on the base classes. At lvl 30 gladiors drop sword and shield and gets a Trident net. The little wand for conjourer stays and they keep their shield.
I always had an idea for a Musketeer class that has a musket for long ranged attacks, and a flintlock or even just a bayonet for close ranged attacks. Or maybe a musket for GCDs and a flintlock for oGCDs.
Sounds alot like a Pirate job which has been a popular job of discussion for years, abd specifically like Musketeer, a job coming out of Limsa Lominsa. It would be a good excuse for that scouting gear XD
I'm really hoping for dual pistols. They're absent from almost every mmo, and I think the FFXIV devs could do them well. I want a true gunslinger/cowboy/pirate.
Haha! Those Hand Bombs were funny :) Crossbow was actually my first choice for Rangers weapon until I remembered the Rifle. Its still a great option imo.
A friend of mine actually had the same idea as you, being similar to the Shai class in BDO. It would make for a unique job and the setting of The New World might match it. Its as likely an option as any, we can only wait and see.
I would love a pure Pirate job wielding those. Since Piracy is on its way out, it would make sense to keep its traditions and arts alive in a guild that teaches them
Thanks for this series. I have enjoyed it very much. Chemist is the only one that I believe we will never get. We already have one and I believe that Yoshi hinted at that before in a live at one time.
I can tell you 100% you are not the only one! Its been a talking point and wish of the playerbase for a long time. Maybe one day, if they ever grant our wish of Blizball being added to the game :)
In a ideal scenario the bard would loose its offensive ability’s and would become a strictly support job (healer) and grow out of a new class I’m thinking musician the current bard would rework to a ranger and would function much like you said. Finally it grow out of the archer same as before. Plus as a bonus the musician class a describe could split into two separate jobs (I know people don’t like it, but they could set up so both jobs don’t level up simultaneously. Example being you would pick one job quest and you wouldn’t Gain access to the other until you’ve started the other one.) firstly the new bard as a healer/support heavy job and the second could be songstress from X-2 it would function as a magic DPS with some support ability’s. Similar to the red mage, but not as well rounded and it wouldn’t have a raise either.
This sounds more like Bard would split into two jobs, much like now Arcanist split into Summoner and Scholar. I would suggest Bard would become Ranger which focuses on straight DPS, and the offshoot joib being the support healer which would be called... what? Something about singing and music I guess.
@@noppornwongrassamee8941 Thats basically what im implying. Only reason why I decided to split the job from archery is well through out the fancies they never were connected at all (maybe in some older games they could use bows, but I dont remember) Bards have always been very support based with very little ways of dealing direct damage. Hench why I decide to remove the offense components almost entirely of the bard and give it it's own starting class and to compensate archer now has a more natural evolution of it's self, much like how gladiator becomes paladin. Plus the branch songstress Idea was just that an idea simply because I like the idea of have a class branch off into two very different yet similar job. Of course I never expect them to do any of this since the amount of man power need to make it happen might be unreasonable.
what do you think of a physical range DPS fighting with a whip I just thought that this can be interesting and it would be a unique ff14 job which isn't there in other MMORPGs And Yoshi P also said in an interview that he have to look for new unique ff14 jobs soon So I thought what would looks like a unique ff14 physical range DPS job So I came up with this but I haven't found a name for it yet
Number of players of a given role doesn't have any bearing on the number of jobs within that role. Adding more tank jobs won't create more tank players. Personally I don't think we're getting any more tanks or healers, at all. The classic jobs have been exhausted and we've already got our 'original' tank/healer jobs in Gunbreaker and Sage. We're approaching 20 jobs now and that's about where FF11 stopped. So I think we'll get a few more dps jobs, maybe one more for each role. Caster, Phys Ranged and Scouting Melee. Seriously doubt we'll get a 'Ranger' as that is basically what BRD is already, and a Rifle is out because we already have MCH. The Musketeer was originally intended to be the base class for MCH. My bets for ranged weapons would be; Crossbow, Whip, and Puppet.
nah man, next we will get a new Caster/Magic DPS and a new Job that used the Scouting Gear set. Since Reaper we only had one Maiming Gear class and we had no Scouting Class since Heavensward, yeah the Ninja was in ARR but most of the sets back then was either usable by every War Class or consider the Ninja as an "Striking Job"
I'll be honest, I dont like either of these, Chemist seems more magical than physical, and ranger sounds good, but the weapon just doesnt work, MCH already use a rifle, even if they hold it more like a pistol and do sick-flips while shooting, something I've had kicking around in my head, would be a call back to Gambler, and its other incarnations, mainly Corsair from ff11 and Wakka from ff10, the job would use a musketeers pistol and a cannonball, throwing the cannonball up into the air then firing at it to ricochet the ball toward the enemy and revolve around keeping the cannonball bouncing, sometimes getting the pistol shot itself to hit the target, calling back to the gambler roots with some RNG without it needed to be solely reliant on it. at this point Im convinced that musketeer was meant to be the class version of MCH but got scraped when they realized they didnt have the man power to make them fully fledged classes and jobs + Ninja + Heavensward + 2.X content, but I still long to be a musketeer, starting as a marauder and always seeing the pair of pistols made me wish it was a different timeline, so I've had this cooking in my head for a while, call it Corsair (COR) or Blitzballer (BLZ) or Musketeer (MST)
I'd love to see a crossbow job one day, like a Van Helsing/Demon Hunter job, with silver crossbolt, holy water etc !
Crossbow was actually my scripted weapon for this Ranger and would have worked in much the same way. If they dont give us a rifle/musket I hope for a Crossbow.
Agreed my idea would be a monster hunter or beast master with a cross bow and a pet with something similar to WoW's beast master.
Honestly I reckon we'll get a hybrid of Gambler/Juggler/Trickster.

I am glad you mentioned the Musketeer class hall sitting with cobwebs and moths in Limsa. I SITLL HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOSHI P
We never forget!
I remember every time I walk into the coral tower and see those empty spaces filled with yellowbellys :)
I would really like your Ranger idea, but I would find it odd if we would get the Coral Tower Connection tied to a Ranger, would rather take a pirate class with that Musket/Rifle idea.
Or take the Pirate theme and use a whip as a new weapon
How about a slingshot firing special capsules with item effects. I recall an anime with something like that.
I'm holding my breath for corsair but I've also came up with a ranger in the past that dual weilds crossbows and "exploits weak points"
I seem to recall a fantasy character that dual wielded smaller crossbows, so I like the idea of such!
in my experience, phs range is one of the harder dps to find in for statics and the like. Caster is almost as common as melee. I'm unsure why.
My guess is it depends on the DC you are on.
I wish Light had a shortage of Physical Ranged, cause there are just so many lol
@@WyrmLimion interesting, that makes sense. I'm on aether.
it should be a blitzball player like Wakka from FFX. and it will all make sense especially when they one day add blitzball as a minigame in the gold saucer. one day.
Shadowbringer : Close Gnb and range Dnc
Endwalker : close Reaper and range Sage.
In this way it will appeal more then one play style and yeah that’s why Melee scouting and casting are most probable.
they could do a meele caster (maybe mystic knight?). that way they could also implement a ranged scout
I'm betting on the new Scouting Job using Whips. Probably Beastmaster or whatever crazy stuff Yoshi-P has in store.
Exactly what I'm thinking as well.
Maybe a crossbow Ranger job.
Alternatively, I think it'd be cool to have a Chemist with a bomb lobber. Remember the Bomb tossers from FF12?
Haha!
Those Hand Bombs were funny :)
Crossbow was actually my first choice for Rangers weapon until I remembered the Rifle.
Its still a great option imo.
Beastmaster with a whip weapon. Can use Hythlo to teach us creation magics.
I like the idea of Ranger but why not giving them a giant boomerang and use wind aspected abilities?
A friend of mine actually had the same idea as you, being similar to the Shai class in BDO.
It would make for a unique job and the setting of The New World might match it.
Its as likely an option as any, we can only wait and see.
OMG IVE BEEN THERIOZING ON A PHYSICAL RANGED DPS AND A NEW CASTER DPS: CHEMIST AND GEOMANCER!!!!!!!
Both are so popular; we need to get one at least!
What do you think they would be like?
chemist would be cool. ranger seems too much like the machinist. i'd like a beast tamer or something like that
How about pistol and sword and use scout armor but the skill we much rely on range (it is like red mage but physical)
I would love a pure Pirate job wielding those.
Since Piracy is on its way out, it would make sense to keep its traditions and arts alive in a guild that teaches them
@@WyrmLimion we can re use the name of "musketeer" And some skill has rifle as weapon
Thanks for this series. I have enjoyed it very much. Chemist is the only one that I believe we will never get. We already have one and I believe that Yoshi hinted at that before in a live at one time.
I'd rather have chemist to use a sling shot, comparable to Usopp from One piece
am i the only one that want to see wakka's blitzballer job? 😂
I can tell you 100% you are not the only one!
Its been a talking point and wish of the playerbase for a long time.
Maybe one day, if they ever grant our wish of Blizball being added to the game :)
crossbows seems like a good choice for me
In a ideal scenario the bard would loose its offensive ability’s and would become a strictly support job (healer) and grow out of a new class I’m thinking musician the current bard would rework to a ranger and would function much like you said.
Dual guns would be neat.
I know not everyone has the highest option of FFX-2, but I loved the Gunner job in that game. Yuna made it look good :)
Would make a nice ranged job!
what do you think of a physical range DPS fighting with a whip
I just thought that this can be interesting and it would be a unique ff14 job which isn't there in other MMORPGs
And Yoshi P also said in an interview that he have to look for new unique ff14 jobs soon
So I thought what would looks like a unique ff14 physical range DPS job
So I came up with this but I haven't found a name for it yet
Hunter? Slayer? Nighthunter? Ringmaster?
The real Physicl Ranged DPS we need is Blitzballer.
puppeteer could also be a ranged dps
I have Lulu in my mind with her puppet when it comes to something like that.
the fact that machinist cant dual wield guns is crime.
A dual pistol wielder and a job wielding a pistol and blade were the hot topics of discussion during ARR.
And its never to late!
Its a big gap to be sure, and some job needs to fill it.
Geomancer but instead of magic give him a big hammer that does earthquake aoes and smashing rocks at the target
The conjured a heck of a mental image in my mind.
Just give me a pure gunner class or crossbow class and I'll be happy.
Blitzball class makes sense
BLITZBALLERRRRR
Chocobolancer best class.
The idea is growing on me day after day :)
