Another banger video! BTW the Burn always reminds me of The Empty on the first... And both of it reminds me of Moon. All lands which are covered in stagnant aether.
Indeed, primary difference is the empty still has light aether, thus its appearance. Its also who I didn't label this video the harshest region in FFXIV. I hope to return to The Empty and The Burn someday. Its been awhile since we allowed aether to flow into The Burn.
It should also be said that Emet-Selch had his fingers in the Allagan Empire too, not so much as Garlemald but he still considered it one of his 'finer works'. Its entirely possible he oversaw the whole creation of Azys Lla and Dalamud, and decided to repurpose some of his older works for his newer work.
I would not put it past them. It makes me wonder if Emet was in the picture at all while Xande was around the second time. We know he visited Amon at the very least before the end.
The terminology of cutting the area off from the life stream may be entirely correct. This could explain the Dotharl belief of a closed reincarnation cycle. Maybe souls lost in areas too far removed from an aether current bounce right back rather than reach the aetherial sea? Azys La is a collection of islands from various places. The southern and southwestern islands are all chunks of land taken from Meracydia. It's possible we could find another burn down there when/if we ever go there.
Was re-playing FF13 for the first time since launch. I totally forgot that Oerba is also sort of similar. Once vibrant and lush, now basically salt flats.
Great video! I appreciated the lesson in FF XIV lore. It's been a while since I played through Heavensward and Stormblood so I appreciate the refresher. Also, I love seeing how the devs can slide in bits of lore as a potential Easter egg for other FF games such as FF VIII.
Glad you enjoyed it Sorrenaclaw. I too enjoy finding these little nuggets they put in, most of which are not in plain sight. Hoping for more about The Burn as Meracydia is on the cards.
Coming to ff14 from swtor, and eso, there was one location that The Burn reminded me of, post-storyline Ziost a blighted white-grey wasteland devoid of life, aside from the hulking monoliths which aren't really alive, they are constructs of some form. Seeing the burn I could immediately believe the aetherial imbalance that occurred there, and the allagan experiments that led to it as I ventured further, the mist dragon sealed the deal for me, an aberration somehow unliving, surviving in some form in this lifeless wasteland feeding off of whatever vestiges of life remain. And it also made me think, does the burn have the same "hollow" feeling to spell;casters that Ziost, and Nathema have to force users within the narrative of swtor, an emptyness, nawing away at the back of your mind, a feeling of wrongness that cements the atrocities committed here.
I add onto this, the creatures that adapt to the burn now bring to mind the mutated Nexu, Arklay and the native "voreclaw", and other "Nathema Beasts", which adapted to the world, after escaping containment from a labratory studying the effects of the "Force Void" on animals.
I cant comment on swtor as I only played it a little bit back in the day, but I feel the subject of no aether in the area would affect the likes of a BLM or WHM. BLM needs to connect to the aetheric flow of the area they are in, and WHM though not as much today, needs to commune with the elements around them. The same is also the case when we enter The Void. It's all avoided for the sake of gameplay.
@@WyrmLimion As a fellow SWTOR player I can attest to OP's account. Sith magics robed those lands's life essence from the planet that this Sith drew his continued life energy from.
Dalamud's pretty darn big though. I'm hoping they have a huge chunk of Meracydia missing. That expansion could do a surgical retcon of all matters Allagan, which I actually wouldn't mind terribly, especially if they went back and revised the Binding Coils while they're at it.
Honestly I could see them doing a retcon with regards to Allag, as there are a great many pages to be filled. At this stage we still know so little about their empire. When Meracydia finally opens up to us it will mark Allags return to the MSQ spotlight to be sure. I want to learn more about Dalamud and the original Bahamut. Maybe Tiamat can fill us in.
This is a bit of a crackpot theory but I think it would be fun and has potential: There could even be a secret new Allag empire aka new Allag, it would hugely reference another Final Fantasy title or two - if you catch my drift. Meracydia def is among the biggest mysteries and we know it by name since ARR! I also think there is more to Allag then we are left with. After all the allagan tomestones still remain in the spotlight even if you would say they "just" serve as a gameplay element, the devs are known for tieng in lore into various ingame stuff, even after the fact. The Allagan space exploration lead by Amon that is spoken about by Graha briefly in EW could have also gone a long way, perhaps even on a different shard. I think Allag easily has potential for more story as its implications and potential is still vast. And new ruins etc are still uncovered with each expansion, even in EW most recently!
As a big fan of Miqo'te Lore The Burn does represent the likely path that the tribes used before it was altered when they fled Eorzea in their long trek to Meracydia, shame you missed mentioning that point.

I thought the same, given as you said they took trophies from Meracydia.
I wonder if that was the case, they consider each landmass a trophy lol
@@WyrmLimion I guess they restrained Tiamat in Meracydia and flew the whole island out.

Just like the dwarves of Moria they left the bloody door open and then have the audacity to complain that orcs are claiming squatters rights

Great video and storytelling, I'll subscribe and check out your other ones
I appreciate that, thank you!
The Burn reminded me a lot of the Great Salt Lake from VIII!
im a simple emet simp. i see emet i press "like"
good inadept video and perspective of the burn
Its not easy to find lore about that region or does it bring itself forward well
Luckily there is no dormant EDEN resting in the burn or we would be screwed :D
Its a big region, lord knows what the Allagans left behind.
A horde of Chimera's?
Amons secret lab?
A mothership or other ships?
Maybe in Meracydia :)
I wonder if the 9th reflection looks like The Burn
I have a mental image of thunder plains, or the ground be glassed over by lightning.
i hate mist dragon with a BURNing passion xD
I remember the fight used to drag on when it was first introduced :)
Kinda git that feeling again with the NPC's.

Why does every sentence you say end with a downward inflection and frequently a hiss? Now that I notice it I find it intolerable.
