Imagine being Ash Ketchum who has to decide between 3 starters who are all dragon types but because he comes late he gets a Charmander.
Not really a fan of dragon type since they're weak against ice and fairy, so I'm okay by skipping them. I am more into water type.
They really messed up giving Charizard flying as a second type. Should’ve been dragon or just left him solely as a fire type.

The Haxorous base stat totals, iirc, are actually in line with that of starters, so they were literally designed for this
540 is slightly higher than the highest starter bst for swampert at 535

well considering metagross is steel and tyranitar is dark, my guess for the first non dragon pseudo in years would be a fairy type
Tyranitar is literally Godzilla which is technically a lizard and should probably still fit with a Dragon typing

After the sv dlc it would be harder to pick a dragon starter with hydrapple line but the only reason I see hydrapple not working is because first of all dipplin and hydrapple are item and move evolutions respectively then you also have to take into account the other split evos of flapple and appletun ( who become useless after the release of dipplin and hydrapple)
Shiny Haxorus is the bomb man, those crimson colored blades with that pitch black armor, 👌🏻
The went hard for his shiny but honestly any shiny that gets a black color is essentially cheating because it’s such a good color to go with anything

As a representative of all flygons out there I demand to make me the ground starter
I also beg to differ that Flygon is stated to be "they're not too powerful" here, they are powerful. I choose Flygon all the time, everytime. Shiny Flygon is my all-time favorite shiny in that it has all my favorite colors too! 💙💚🧡

Haxorous may not be a psuedo but it sure hits like a meteor when it have Guillotine move
The thing is, those powerful dragon types are still very balanced as starters, because of how late they evolve!
Take Dratini: you don't get a Dragonair until level 30! And no Dragonite until 55!!
Bagon is about the same, becoming Shelgon at 30 and Salamence at 50.
Gible is a LITTLE more reasonable at 24 for a Gabite, but still super late at 48 for a Garchomp
But Deino? Whuf! Level *50* for Zweilous, and 64 for Hydreigon!
So yeah, all of these are perfectly valid starters, because the amount of time and investment that goes into their training makes you earn the amount of power they bring to the table.
Did a platinum mono dragon nuzlocke, I made Dratini my starter, and I would say they are some times a little too balanced. And It wasn't as easy as it sounds on paper, most of the game was still pretty difficult.
I feel Bagon gives off that starter vibe, in a pokedex entry Bagon wants to fly and trains everyday to fly, Salmence is like it’s final goal and it makes sense for it to be a Dragon starter

Though Iris was given Axew so she can learn how to become a dragon master, her starter is Drillbur/Eccadrill, as she befriended him before she got Axew and had used Excadrill in a tournament, where it was strong but ultimately lost to Drayden's Haxorus and became the way he was early introduction

Axew is one of my all time favorite dragon types. I love that goofy lil guy so much. And he turns into a beast. Shiny is dope too.
Axew is a great choice. It even follows the "more awesome each evolution, but not that dramatic" like a lot of fire starters
Axew is actually a starter in one of the Mystery Dungeon games. But if I could have any dragon-like starter, it would be Charmander so I could raise it into a Charizard.
Wish they made Charizard a dragon-type. I get that he would’ve been op, but giving him flying as a second type was the worst decision ever. In the end, if they weren’t gonna give him dragon, they should’ve just left him as solely a fire type.
Pseudo legendary mons would actually be bad starters not because they'd be too strong. Rather, they'd be too weak when it matters. Their first stage always sucks total ass and they don't reach their final stage sometimes until the elite four or beyond (recall Lance and his underleveled Dragonites)
A region where all three starters were new dragons and all three were the only pseudo legendaries would be so sick.

haxorous is a good middle ground because he’s not busted like Garchomp or other pseudo legendaries, but he’s nothing to scoff at either.
It's funny because I immediately went to Haxorus in my brain because it's my favorite Dragon type and the one I would choose. It's also kinda the only Gen 5 Pokémon I actually like the design of.

Haxorous is perfectly powerful.
One dragon dance and you just start mowing down everything. But its relatively slow and not so tough, meaning a well placed Ice or Dragon attack can take it out.
Its a good offensive pokemon overall

There's a fan game called pokemon unbound where one of the starters was gibble. It's a pretty good game.
This is kinda why Pokémon would never do this, there's no point of having any other options if there is already strong types like Steel, Dragon, and Fairy.
A dragon heavy region would be a cool theme for an upcoming game, and if you had every starter pick up a Dragon type alongside the Grass/Water/Fire types would be a good time

Garchomp is my favorite dragon type pokemon. Not just from the game, but even on the anime, the way that the blonde lady with the all black fit truly entrusted him as her main and consistent representative, I freaking love garchomp. Hes up there with arcanine in my eyes and arcanine is my all time favorite

Raihan had Duraludon for a starter maybe. Sure it is one stage but can still be a solid.
The problem is, dragon type Pokémon would make bad starters for new trainers unless they were raised around dragon tamers like Iris. Dragon types often evolve at high levels and a trainer needs to be somewhat experienced to handle them.
Yeah imagine getting a Deino for a starter, you'll be stuck with that blue kermit for who knows how long, and when it finally evolves at lv50 all you get is just another head

I love the Flygon line. Trapinch was my first favourite Pokémon as a kid and Flygon is used by my favourite Pokémon Sword Gym Leader, it’s also soooo cute!

@@aviationfella1812Dreepy, Larvitar, and Beldum are the only unbalanced ones. Deino's evolution levels are so ridiculously high, that you'd have to have a really extreme fear of starters evolving into something with 600 BST to deny it.
I have full faith that if Haxorus was a pseudo legendary (like he should've been), and the rest of his stats weren't put into special attack, he'd have been a monster. Potentially Ubers depending on how they'd have done it.

On PokeMMO, when I started Hoenn, I bought a level 8 Axew and it has been more useful to me than Blaziken could ever be.
Scolepede would be perfect for bug type, it can even have the ability swarm, which is the bug type equivalent of the starter abilities.
