- It turns out Hollywood was butchering anime LONG before Dragon Ball: Evolution, but never with this much hilarity. Forgive the audio in the beginning, there was recording issues during filming. See more anime goodness at www.benthesage.com

I love how in that scene with the rapping monster the Guyver is just quietly staring at him like, "Is this guy seriously spewing a cringey rap at me before a fight?".
Right? I love how even the costume is like "what the fuck am I looking at?"
Speaks for the whole audience.
This movie looks like "What if Kamen Rider was even cheesier".
+Adam Hoffman even the heisei era?
i read your comment and it made me laugh til wheezy. the thought of Kamen Rider made more cheesy. i could have just said 'lol' but thats too easy. So I made up a rhyme that was breezy.
Boooooy!
+Adam Hoffman Yeah except Kamen Rider is great
I mean the manga is better thoo
Krow From The Krow's Nest
Oh, I like Kamen Rider, but you know most of the mainstream would find it cheesy. I embrace the cheese, myself.
This reminds me of one of the things I love about the NC: his voice is like elastic, and he COMMITS to his flailing madness. Seriously, think about what it takes to run screaming through a crowded convention in a Ghostbusters outfit yelling about fighting an animated ghost with a camera trailing you.
And his acting. God, you really believe EVERY and each one of his stupid faces he makes
How can you not love this guy?
Kevin hates fun.
ugh my ears but like NC commitment to the scream
CASPER!!!!
It takes guts to run stupidly through a convention and embarass yourself where there are already a ton of other nerds um...doing the same shit? I get where you were going with it, but if there would be anywhere to flock around insanely and feel no pressure to be judged its a convention lol
What is this tingeling feeling I have in my pants... Oh false alarm, it was a half eaten snickers bar, as you where.
Anyone else think Mark Hamill looks like Jeff Foxworthy in this?
You too?
+christhefishhunter "If you found out that the girl you kissed was your sister... yooooooou might be a Jedi."
docdave15 That's a good one!
I think he looks more like William H Macy
who???
"Aren't you dead?" Brentalfloss lives!!!
bigoldinosaur ha
Bennett should review the live action Fist of the North Star.
Big Steve 300 I reviewed the live action Fist of the North Star. You should check me out if you ever get the chance.
+Big Steve 300 he said whenever he does that it would be a crossover review with Spoony and The Cinema Snob
When a friend of mind told me that he liked Dragon Ball: Evolution, I knew he had lost his soul or been replaced by a Terminator.
matt fahringer hey to each there own, no need for violence. Plenty other, better things to watch and enjoy.
bajan13k I just lit a candle for your friends soul, may he find redemption and peace.
You, sir/madame/undecided, have just won the Internets, and provided me with much joyous mirth!
Don't tell me he was sent here to kill Sean Schemmel
***** now, you make me want to watch it....
Up until I read
"Forgive the audio in the beginning, there were recording issues during filming,"
I thought it was deliberate, like you're reviewing anime and the English words don't match the lip movement coming out of anime characters mouths.
Doug doesn't seem like his usual self here, he's a lot more mean spirited.
he's with the guy he believes is Satan himself, would you be nice to him?
That was part of the joke. As I recall, a lot of reviewers got together to do crossovers during some con or other (hence why they're in a hotel room), and they all had a theme of being mean to each other (also explaining why Bennett yelled at Hebert at 19:48).
@@HiddenWindshield I've also seen that when Nostalgia Critic teamed up with Todd In The Shadows to review "The Wizz", and in a crossover between Todd and The Rap Critic.
"Just . . . tell me if they leave him with some dignity."
He's gone through this entire movie with a porn mustache. He didn't have any dignity to begin with.
I know its two years on, but i would love to see Sage and Critic return to the live action Guyver films and review Dark Hero.
Aka the sequel that was good as the director of Guyver 2: Dark Hero actually did his homework and made the successful attempt of doing a decent American Adaption of Bioboosted Armor: Guyver not only was the fight choreography better, so was the script/writing finally Sean was acting more like Sho aka hated killing but was willing to get brutal and kill bad guys if need be, special effects, costumes, and most importantly we had a far much better cast including a then-unknown David Hayter as lead protagonist Sean.
Too bad Guyver 2 wasn't enough to redeem this, we could have had a real tokusatsu genre in the USA. Good luck getting something like this greenlit in today's Hollywood.
Hell, I'm pretty sure Sci-Fi channel already plays Guyver now and then.
@@AkuTenshiiZero It used to
need review Guyver 2 dark hero. with Solid Snake
David Hayter is in this movie?
He's the damn lead actor.
for the sequel I mean.
gato23
Oh please no :D. DAVID.....why.
its a actually WAY better than this piece of crap. darker even.
Guyver is a nostalgic comic to me. I have all the tankbon released so far. I remember my brother had it and i started reading, then recovering every other comic.
It's such a great story, even tho it's been like 3 years since i last saw a new tankobon.
As much crap as this movie gets, the sequel is a lot better. If you haven't seen the OVA it's pretty fantastic.
Groovy Dude Yeah, I'm not a huge manga fan, but I watched a bit of the 12 part OVA anime as a kid, and the second movie seemed to take a lot more cues from the anime and manga, and took itself a bit more seriously.
The thing with Guyver is that I get the feeling that that it's more-or-less essentially an "adult Power Rangers" for lack of better word. Fundamentally, it even kinda follows the same sort-of formula and structure as a Power Rangers series. (Introduce alien weapon-suit that a teenager acquires, introduce villain that generates monsters-of-the-week for him to battle, have a monster-of-the-week battle for a few episodes, have a plot-episode peppered in here and there... repeat.)
I think they tried too much to lean on and exploit the inherent silliness of the whole concept with this film and took it too far. Whereas the second film did the smart thing and realized that the appeal of the series was that it took a relatively silly concept and played it as straight as possible. So they did a much better job and delivered a much better film the second time around. (Granted, the second film is still kind of a bad movie... but it's a lot of fun to watch, has some cool low-budget effects and monsters, a few genuinely good action sequences and is entertaining overall without being too painful like this one.)
Plus, having David "Solid Snake" Hayter playing the lead character is a lot of fun. (I wouldn't be surprised if he did some uncredited script-work as well.)
+Eamonn Deane huh. Pretty neat
The OAV was my first full Anime experience, and still can't be matched. If only we could get a complete story but Guyver's like Berserk, going on hiatus and publication hell, without an ending in sight.
Gonna say, the joke where he still used the toaster, and it burnt his toast, was pretty good.
Truth be told, "evil John Kerry" passed away same year a few months later that this movie came out. Still, horrible movie.
+Cameron Alidor I know he was only 54 too
I expect there will be some kind f resolution soon. There's no point to an ending like that; if the point was supposed to just be a somber one, then it doesn't work because there's nothing really saying the issue can't be resolved.
I kind of like how, in this review, it shows that Bennett and Doug have different ways of seeing things
I only ever watched the sequel and I must say it's much more serious and darker.
Not to mention the starring role in the sequel went to David Hayter, a.k.a. Solid Snake! :D
I want a new live action Guyver adaptation done in the style of Dredd; Hyperviolent sci-fi horror/pulp action.
So with the inclusion of suave does this mean there's three sages now???
Why Mark Hamill? Why?!
Leon Kennedy because, the force and the dark side are a pathway to many abilities, some consider to be unnatural
because he was popular then
The saddest part about this movie is that it was my favorite movie as a kid. I had the first and second one on VHS and DVD
I think it's fair to say you could've done much worse :)
the first movie was an absolute shit-storm but Guyver 2: Dark Hero was actually much better than the first film as it is much closer in terms of tone and style to it's source materials. I'm not saying its actually a good movie but it did kind of learn from it's mistakes a bit and was an improvement despite feeling like an adult version of Power Rangers. Not to mention the main character got replaced by Solid Snake himeself, David Hayter and multiple roles and a cameos by the Master of Foam himself Evil Ted Smith!
the 2 is awesome!
man it been so many years but it is somehow nostalgic to remember the days sage pretty much played the devil to get his break in video making
Haven't seen the Critic laugh that hard since Saved By the Bell.
+Scsigs Critic watched that?
Yeah. Look it up. It's hilarious.
1:13 BRENTALFLOSS!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!1111!!!!!!!
To note Jeffrey Combs is in this film as a shout out to Herbert West the Reanimator from HP Lovecraft and played by Jeffrey Combs
I really want to another Sage and Critic review.
+xhandbasketx Think there might be a chance judging by the stinger of the Kekko Kamen review, soon.... can't wait. :Squees:
Anime abandon Speed Racer
+tabuu9 Well, we all know that now. Personally waiting for another Sage and Cinema Snob crossover.
I like how Brental Floss was just sorta there
I'm not even sure if this counts as Doug's review as well, but I'm totally lost on the story.
Does anyone know what the names of the films are in the intro to this episode? They look pretty cool.
To be fair, I think this is gonna be the one and only video I watch involving Doug Walker since the Change the Channel movement. Mostly cause I'm a big fan of Sage, and Guyver.
Oh, fantastic!! Thanks for including the Critic!
Fun fact: this was directed by the Power Rangers director. I don't think the silly suits bothered him too much.
this movie makes me feel uncomfortable , i mean .....
how do you change from PG to R and then bounce back to PG with a mix of G ?
o_O
Anyone know what the song at 2:00 is?
29:36-30:19 And that is how Chaos Spawn are formed kiddies...The more you know.
Shoddy costumes. The costumes were designed by one of the best costume designers in the business. What happened to all that love for "practical" effects.
It was too "expensive" so they decide to use CGI, god i missed the practical effects
the dialogue that the critic and Bennett have quality reminds me of fallout 1 and 2, I LIKE IT!
who is the guy coming in at 20:00? Ive seen him referenced before in A.Abandon but I feel Im missing something significant.
Please help me guys. From what movie this footage 4:09 "Chinese tourtul man"???
How long was Film Brain hiding down there?
That text crawl is more Blade Runner than Star Wars.
At 2:03 what is the music that is playing?
I love that movie scroll
This movie is essentially the true live action version of Garzey's Wing
can you do something on betterman or secret experiments lain
Wait, he's the announcer of DBZ too?!?!? Curse yoooooooooooooouuuuu
28:53 what movie is that? I've seen this clip before but I never learned its origin.
Dune
:)
Please tell me there's a gif somewhere of 19:27-19:37
Are you gonna review the first animated guyver movie (before the 1992 cartoon)?
The Guyver, reminds me of Guyferd from Tokusatsu.
Must be the closest thing we get to a toku series in a western film.
28:58 What where who why? Somebody tell me the source material!
this is THE first anime I ever watched as a child, I was five when my step grandfather introduced me to it. Ever since then I've been hooked on anime.
+BlueWaffle1929 The first series I ever watched and it remains one of my favorites
I get the appreciation of camp and there was a time when I liked this movie.
Ever thought of reviewing the other Guyver movie?
not the anime or manga, the other live action one.
it's one of those things that make you go "what?"
can some one list the movies in his intro please
Guyver 2 aka Dark Hero was better than the first. at least that focused more on the origin of the aliens who created the Guyver unit.
what's the music at 2:03
what happened to the audio'
28:55- where is this reference from?
the movie Dune (1984) based on American Epic Science Novel named the same thing Dune (novel, 1965).
I thought Critic was going to compare to Spider Man 3 after the alien attaching itself to person with power
Someone actually did compare this to Venom.
Ok. What is with the live action stuff in the opening? Like the lupin the 3rd scene, or the master roshi thing? Can someone please point me in the direction of these videos.
I am so lost on what is happening in the beginning
and i thought Rian Johnson treated Mark Hamill like a bug (which he does ) but this is horrible
16:45 When Hillary made that Pokemon joke😂
i cant help but wonder what the two of them think of the actual guyver anime.
"Not Hamill"
I hope they co-op again one day
Your wish came true. They reviewed the new speed racer movie together
Really? Great!
Continuity with the anniversary specials.
Never realized there was so many actors from ReAnimator in this!
26:57 imagine if this scene was in the anime. Creepier or less creepy looking?
I want to see you and NC review part 2 and FIst of the North Star, Sage!
Whatever happened to the bloopers of the guyver review?
2 actors from re-animator are in this I am surprised neither critic mentioned that.
What is with the volume?
Would be cool if you'd do another crossover for the sequel. You might be pleasantly surprised by it.
At 27:59 is that the DR from the Re-animator?
An important lesson for Hollywood: Never make a live-action movie based on an anime. It never works. Fuck, Japan can't even get its own source material right. That shows you just how pointless it is to try.
+PKMN37 In general yes. The Guyver Dark Hero/Guyver 2 is alot better. (My opinion of course)
+PKMN37 In general yes. The Guyver Dark Hero/Guyver 2 is alot better. (My opinion of course)
+WarriorTRZ I agree, the second one was an improvement despite being a direct to video release. it was as tonally confused and openly embraced the camp with a much better mix of Hong Kong styled fight sequences. it was just more fun to watch and remains as one of my favorite anime adaptations. Personally I think it deserves a second chance.
um the rurouni kenshin trilogy wants to say something
Maybe if Hollywood and Japan worked together. Especially if it's an anime that has a setting outside of Asia. But that doesn't mean Cowboy Bebop. DO NOT MESS UP COWBOY BEBOP.
How much IS actually dubbed in post here?
Any chance you two can review the sequel?
11:55 now to chase them in my mighty vespa!
what is the song
What's with the out of sync audio? Did the editor not know how to sync the ADR?
Dude...did anyone else notice the Kenshin Live Action clips at the beginning of this? I thought that was new shit. lmao
nezerac There are actually 3 live action movies i think....
29:12 How appropriate, you fight like a cow?
28:50 what is that reference?
Nice crossover reference comparing Dune when Feyd steps out of a steam shower and the Guyver rising out of the Zoanoid like Alien. Good Job Bennett :)
The monster effects were done by Screaming mad george.
wow.... this ending. like no resolution. what happened between the characters before this review?
I love when youtubers get together at cons
27:59 Jeffrey Combs! come on this is a classic!!
19:28 - TTTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
I hope they do guyver 2 at some point
What happened at the end there? did they really hated each other or couldn't figure out a peaceful talk ending???
Guyver is the hero who got me in to anime.
I... I feel so sorry for Sage
Y, they’re acting
This isn't even close to Bio Booster Armor Guyver. It's more like a big budget production of "I Can't Believe it's not Mighty Morphin Power Rangers"!
huh, so does that mean Ben 10 is a rip-off
Technically, Ben 10 was a rip-off way before the Guyver. Ever hear of "Dial H for Hero"? It's almost the exact same concept: a young boy comes across a device enabling him to change into several different superheroes for a short amount of time. If anything, Ben 10 is a rip-off of both "Dial H for Hero" and the Guyver....
BeelzeRider but imo better
matt fahringer no it isn't
Dial H for Hero has never received the respect it deserves. recently, the most merecne tmand modern apperances of The Dial H or roby reed were in the comic adaptation off the teen titans comic H-E-R-O and in the new 52 comic dial H. is currently in comic book limbo
Are you going to review the squeal to the Guyver movie?
