The Chinese system of governing has checks and balances and is based off results. Xi doesn't get to his position without a proven track record. As long as the average people continue to have their lives improved, they are supportive of their government. The people have the power so it's not a dictatorship. If Xi doesn't continue to provide results for the people. He doesn't stay in power.
Americans have the wrong mindset when it comes to government. Their system isn't based off data. It's based off who runs a better election campaign to the public. The truth is not prioritized, perception is prioritized. When you don't have accountability. How can you build off your foundation when nothing is solid?
This is why China progressed so fast in a short period. They have been analyzing data and figuring out what works. The US can't even prosecute slander because they can't prove what's truth or what isn't. This allows lies to be normalized as a tactic to demonize opponents. It's very toxic, unproductive and unaccountable.

The reporter was just asking for clarification on a factual point, that Biden called Xi a dictator before and if he still felt the same way. It was up to Biden how he answered. He could have been diplomatic about it but obviously he chose an answer not to his own Secretary of State's liking.
You can also note that before this, Biden was giving up way too much info about the current Hamas-Israel situation for which he had to quickly apologize to Blinken.
Biden's just not up to the task, no matter how much of a vulture you think the press is.

We could all do to learn from Ms Lande’s perspective. Let’s be real, the reason why we are so spun up about the word “dictator” is because it carries a slant and is derogatory. It implies that if we can use that word, we can tell ourselves that our sh*t smells good and theirs stinks.
China’s government has reasons for all of its policies and strategies. The idea that Xi sits around randomly picking people to “oppress” is absurd. Yet that’s the sort of idea the word “dictator” implies and it’s an insult to the sheer workload and complexity of running the world’s most powerful countries.
Videos covering China’s very real and profound local current events can be found all over UA-cam. Various English-speaking vloggers live and create content in China. We have more opportunities than ever before to see what it’s like there, yet some of us are happy burying our heads in the sand and telling ourselves that China is still stuck in the 1970s. It’s really your own loss.

It's amusing that you reference vloggers in China as a credible source of the quality of life there, as it is common knowledge that media censorship is extremely strict in China, and this is evidenced in this very video we're commenting on (3:04).
I'm astonished that you're trying to put a positive spin on Xi's Authoritarian leadership style, irrespective of the enormous scale and size of China, especially if you hail from a Western democratic nation-state.

It seems to western media, lying is like breathing to them, badmouthing, belittling, demonizing, smearing countries, people and culture they don't like are the ways how they make their existence. US, a country built its dictator status of the world relying on its military power and exploitative dollar hegemony, doesn't have any concept of RESPECT to any other country, people and culture, also it demonstrates such a predatory and psychopathic nature that totally lack the ability of empathy, US ALWAYS project itself onto other. What US has accused of others, NONE it didn't do, hasn't been doing themselves!

President Xi loved to take his entourage in an old bus to visit villages & towns around China during her early development. I saw these as a student in Beijing in 2004 & was a teacher there for 15 more years. He rarely gave advance notice as he wanted to see how local officials did their jobs & how they treated the people under them. He spent time talking to villagers and visited their homes wherever he went.
If none of you have ever visited or been to China, I highly recommend that you do. The more I hear of negative comments that are untrue , the more disgusted I feel. Most of our journalists have shallow or no knowledge of either China or Asian cultures & thinking.
Xi has been quite transparent with Biden during this & Bali’s APEC discussions. As to venues, they were all mutually agreed upon. Many of our politicians and journalists are really talking rubbish about optics. Their ignorance of diplomatic etiquette & true friendship are appalling. Their condescending comments are unqualified & utterly nitwitted !
I’m an American who has lived and worked in multiple cities in China over 15 years. Visited 170 cities in total. When I first arrived as a student in Beijing in 2004, it had many villages like Singapore where I had grown up. Within a decade, all these villages in BJ were gone and high rise better quality housing, infrastructure were built & greatly improved. When I was there there were 3 subway lines. When I left a decade later for southern China, there are 23 subway lines. High speed rails were & still are built all across China, better than those in Japan & Europe where I too have lived. Everything is clean and things are managed better and better. People’s lives greatly improve each passing year. Most Chinese people are hardworking, willing to make sacrifices, & try hard to work efficiently to advance their country.
Under Xi, I saw the continual crackdown of corruptions. Gov officials are always held at a higher standard than ordinary people. If one is found to be corrupt or even have an inkling of any extra marital affairs, they are finished and jailed!! Poverty are greatly reduced. China is divided into Tier 1 to Tier 5 cities. By the time I left last year, China has begun developing and improving Tier 4 cities. The speed and determination of President Xi’s gov to develop & improve the entire country and his citizens lives are truly amazing.
China is now a capitalist-communist country. It is not a dictatorship. We have our Congress of 541 and they have their National People Congress of 2980. The difference between our system and China is that The People and The Country comes first. In ours, the politicians and their financial supporters come first. Too much infighting and bickering, our crime rates & homelessness have gone up while in China it’s low. When a country’s citizens live better lives, they become stronger, more creative and more willing to help others.
China has been moving away from being a major polluter towards a cleaner, more environmentally friendly country with each passing year. Xi’s gov has been making great strides forward whereas we and the other major developed countries have either digress or stagnate !!! Even worse,
Japan is now polluting our ocean waters with harmful nuclear wastewater!! Shameful ! 2 days ago, Japan drained her 3rd batch of 7800 tons of nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean again & 29 years more of 4 monthly 7800 tons discharge annually. You too will be affected. Eg Salmon lives in these oceans before going back to the river they spawn. They drink these nuclear wastewater too. You will eat them too.
There are factions in Congress who wants to engage China militarily in the name of National security when it fact it’s profits they are thinking of. Do not let these people’s self centered, narcissistic, foolish ambitions mislead you. They care not if your sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, niece, nephews, love ones or friends die in the war they promote. Like Netanyahu, they will keep their own children somewhere safe but send yours out to die to promote & achieve their personal gain
China has no desire for war but will not hesitate to defend herself & her interests vigorously.

The most insightful comment she made about Chinese political power is that they believe that it's the only form of government that can keep peace and order in their country. China has done a tremendous job of growing it's economy since WW2. It's not our way of how a government should be run, but it's for the Chinese people to decide what's best for them. I know people are going to say they don't have a choice, but when any people aren't happy with their government they will eventually rise up. I believe all people around the world just want to live in peace and raise their children the best they can. Unfortunately, governments and their ideologies get in their way.

Not quite Xi marks a change in Chinese leadership, away from shared power towards unified power. His rule has coincided with more militarisation, more oppressive measures, more surveillance and economic declines due to extremely harsh Covid measures...
He "caree" about the Chinese people because economic prosperity is what stabilises his leadership, but he doesn't want to offer the Chinese actual political freedoms. And political freedoms is exactly what you need when things don't go well economically (which will happen due to China's population crisis).
We see that in Russia, saw it in Hussein's Iraq. When people don't have a say in their government and economic stability is compromised the government becomes extremely violent and repressive. Xi "gives" his people things because he hasn't had to deal with an unhappy populace across China. But look how he dealt with Hong Kong, that's how he will deal with any unhappiness among the Chinese people. And if he decides to invade Taiwan and engage in a military and economic war, that other side of Xi will show itself all across China.

International relations are based often on the quality of personal relations between leaders. And thus, the quality and depth of ties between two countries are the one, it's leaders entertain. That's why messages matters. A word, is a message. And that's why a job of a leader, of a Head of State is to measure the kind of message is being conveyed. You have the kind of relationship your mouth spits. How you chose your words shows the quality you wanna have with the leader of that country. So when Biden labels The Head of State of China as a "dictator" whether it's true or not, he's stepping aside of his job of a diplomat, and seems to favor the sirens or games of U.S internal politics over diplomacy, for his own political interests/survival on the U.S political scene and thus goepardize his relationship with his chinese counterpart.

I kind of like the idea of having one president without having to change every four years. It seems like everyone here in America who becomes president doesn't get the respect from the citizens. I feel as though the people of a country should respect the president, and a four-year term is like having someone new on the job who has to learn everything all over again. Having one president for a long term can allow them to focus on a main goal to move the country in that direction, instead of having different presidents every four years trying to implement something new. Look at China - one president, and their goal is to be a world power. They are thinking long term and focusing on that. And you can’t focus on one thing when we always have someone new running.

You can only do so much with 4 years and at the same time, the US president power is not absolute. The Senate and the Congress shares the other 1/3. This, creating a log jam time constraints where policy and timing matter. That is why democracy does not always works for other countries such as China. The bottom line is, China government system is working for their people.

It's about spontaneity. For citizens to become free, the head of the country needs to give up over-controlling. Democracy promotes facing the reality that not every citizen like the president. In a dictatorship, your death will be forgotten/hidden if you were up against the leader/leadership.

The word Dictator in modern times has this notion of a bad guy. Back in the days during the Roman Empire, Caesar was loved and proudly called by its people "Caesar the Dictator". The next king who ousted him turned that word against him and ever since then, that word has been associated with being a bad guy. US presidents and the rest of the world leaders dictates what's good for their country.

China, esp. gov sector, has always been a meritocracy. Before Xi became President, he was a governor of Fujian province, then governor and party secretary of neighboring province, Zhejiang, then interim party secretary of Shanghai.
