Hi Timothy,,,,Looking to get up to the NC from GA as you are aware, but as I’ve gotten older it’s the mountains that lure me vs. the Coast ! Thanks for the vids ! !
I am more of a mountain vs coast man myself. But every person is different with their likes and dislikes. So I guess it is a good thing the Carolinas have both. Thanks for watching 👍
You’re welcome. Even though some of the town centers look rough, The homes and areas around them are not. But like I’ve said in many videos, your town center is like the front door of your house, and first impressions are everything if you are trying to sell it. Hope you find a town that fits your needs when you decide to make the move. And thanks for watching 👍
Joe Sugar's was a high dollar men's clothing story for many years. It is good to see that it is still open. My dad was born in Saint Paul's and my mother was born in Parkton. Thanks for sharing.
I need to correct info on Joe Sugar's. I called my aunt last night who lives in Saint Pauls. She said Joe Sugar's was closed down a couple of a years ago due to a bad storm that came through. Water poured in through the roof and caused a lot of damage. It was too expensive to repair. They left all of the clothes inside and locked the building up.
The textile mill killed my grandfather..inhaling a lot of cotton fiber gave him "brown lung " before OSHA came along. He passed in 1966.. My grandma lived there until she passed in 1990. I spent some good times walking around there just like you. Thanks for these videos.
I started my career with St. Paul's Police Dept in 2005 thru 2017. I had to move back to Arkansas to take of my sick mother. It was my home and will always be my family in St. Paul's,NC. You need to attend Folk Festival or go to The Night Out in St Paul's 2nd Saturday from April thru Oct. I sure do miss it people aren't the same as they are there.
The folk festival happens I'm May and right after the festival goes into The Night out usually have about a 100+ classic cars and rides down main street
Grew up here in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s..Haven’t been back since 2018..Have family still there. Moved away in 1982. My Mother was a seamstress at Joe Sugars Men’s store in the 60’s. I grew up on Broad street, just a few blocks from downtown. My brother still lives in that same house.
Hello Tim the county we live in Texas there a Mexican restaurant on every street corner. Don't worry it will be the same in the Carolina's. I'm sure that little town will be hopping one day soon.. Thanks Tim for what you do.
Thank you.. My wife and i have been watching you from the start.. On hopes of moving to the Carolina's. Hopefully we will meet you one day.@@TimothyFrench
@beeavenue7798 I’m happy to hear that. I have checked off most of the NC towns west of I-95. So I will be up and down our coastal plain this spring. I’m also moving east through SC toward their coast as well. And thank you for being a long-time subscriber.
Don't even waste your time moving here or in Robeson county for that matter , all the plants as re closed no jobs , if your a Mexican you might make it
Where are everyone moving to? Seems like these little towns are dying off. Most of these buildings are vacant. It seems like they are building a lot of new homes on the outskirts of town but don't do business in the town's itself. Different trends and the way people do business I guess! Seems like everything online business and Walmart is the way people are buying in today's world
You are correct. There were lots of people out by the exit, supporting the big chains and franchises. It is a shame because every town needs local independent businesses. That’s why I’m filming these town centers. I want to encourage people and businesses to return. If not, a small group of people are going to own everything from sea to shining sea. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts on this matter.
It’s typically because a lot of small businesses don’t do much advertising here, and when they do it’s mainly through word of mouth, or Facebook which isn’t ideal. The businesses along broad street aren’t allowed to have large signs on their windows or in front of the store due to being “a distraction” even though the speed limit on that road is 20mph. There’s a lot of loops that some of these businesses have to go through aside from the usual requirements. And what this town needs is a bit of a modern touch but being a small town dominated by locals of advanced age, most things don’t get approved.
St Paul, NC is an interesting place! That town center is ripe for a town-driven restoration, revitalization and invigoration project.
I agree, Kenneth. They are in a good spot for business.
That town is nothing more than a 24/7 speed trap. The cops are worried about speeders while there are drug addicts walking the streets.

I want to move out of FL and am thinking of SC but these small towns are a tough sell. Thanks for shining a light and sharing them.

Here we have another informative and entertaining tour. Thanks Timothy.
Good to hear from you this morning, Terry. The town needs a little work but I think they will get there.
That's my hometown!

They typically put plants out in the spring. The mills leaving, the pandemic, and a lot of other factors closed a lot of stuff in town.
Thanks for information. The mills leaving hurt a lot of towns across the Carolinas that’s for sure

Thanks for sharing your family’s story. Joe Sugars looked like it was major retailer at one time.
Know any Baxley's? My mom was there around then.

I agree. They need to remove the obstacles preventing small businesses from succeeding.
Thanks for posting 👍
