North Carolina's Most Affordable Cities Are A Secret

  • Wow! Who would have know these places were right under our noses?
    Everybody wants to move to North Carolina. Well, not everybody, but a lot of people do. You can’t blame people - word is out about all the cost of living and nice weather and limited political BS. Folks are coming here from all over the midwest, northeast and as far away as India. And they seem to love it here.
    But as you know, the cost of living is getting higher everywhere. And people’s preferences have changed - we don’t necessarily want to live in big cities like Raleigh or Charlotte. Maybe we want affordable, smaller towns with space, huh people?
    So that’s what we’re going to do in this video. I’ve used data, word of mouth and my own personal knowledge of North Carolina to put together a list of ten places here that you can move to which a lot of people probably don’t know about. But one promise - you have to Shhh! and not tell everyone about these places. Cause they won’t be cheap awesome amazing small places if word gets out, right?

Great area for beach-hopping to the Crystal Coast or going out on a kayak. Temperatures are pretty reasonable too for the most part. Loved North Carolina when I was in the Navy. I was never stationed there, but in places like South Carolina and Virginia. Who knows, I may have to retire out there if we can't sort out our water situation out west. Great video! I do have to say I love WNC because of its mountains, trails, springs and nature. I currently live in Leicester which is like a "suburb" of Asheville and really like it. You get the nature and tranquility oppose to Asheville which has grown tremendously. Actually, it's to much. Traffic has become a problem plus the homeless community is another. Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy toward them but the trash, drugs and disorder they cause has escalated big time in the last couple of years, sad. But if you what peaceful living try one of Asheville's suburb.

    Back in the days I was a healthcare traveler I did a short stint in Hendersonville while I was housed in Asheville. Loved the area and it was one of my favorite assignments. I would second considering Hendersonville. My youngest brother moved from Rochester, NY to Clemmons, just south of Winston-Salem. when their youngest attended University of NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem for stage lighting and sound studies. My nephew graduated and got a great job, with excellent career potential in Florida. My brother is still in Clemmons and really likes it there.

    I love your commentaries, and the fact you show the unknown small towns. I could never live in a big city. The bums, traffic, cost of living and especially the crime automatically scares me off. Make a video on small towns near MOUNTAINS. That's what we're looking for after we move out of overrated Florida.

    • @AMC-ym6qi
      @AMC-ym6qi 14 днів тому

      The list here isn’t unknown. You want unknown, go to Shelby, Forest City, Kings Mtn or other actual small towns that are far more affordable than the list here.

    • @Jedi_Luke
      @Jedi_Luke 14 днів тому

      @@AMC-ym6qi It is unknown cuz most people I've talked to have never heard of them. If you live in the area then it obviously you already know about them. For outsiders they are unknown.

    • @AMC-ym6qi
      @AMC-ym6qi 13 днів тому

      @@Jedi_Luke in the title it says secret which means unknown. However, Shelby is far from unknown as it host the American Legion World Series every year, many know Earl Owensby, the Fil maker, made movies around the area for years. Outsiders absolutely know of Cleveland County and those cities named as we see them move into neighborhoods here. Regardless, not one of the cities listed here are a SECRET nor affordable. Hickory may be the exception but there a lot of reasons why people wouldn’t want to live there.

    • @Jedi_Luke
      @Jedi_Luke 13 днів тому

      @@AMC-ym6qi I haven't heard of any of those events you named, so there's that. Again for people from big cities, ya know LA, New York, Miami, Houston etc. People who have lived in huge metropolitan areas their whole life haven't hear of no Hendersonville, I'll bet my Lexus on that. You also missed the part where I said nobody I've talked to has heard of any of these cities. We moved from Florida to Greenville SC and only found out about it from UA-cam. The guy who made the video obviously didn't literally mean secret because people can Google anything these days. In the Internet age NOTHING is a secret. He meant just less talked about mostly unknown places. There's places I can name to you in Florida that are well known to locals but unknown to you. It's clear you don't approve of his video so just click thumbs down and move on with your life, bud. Wasting your time trying to tell a total stranger what's known and unknown is pointless, when I've already said I never heard of these places. I came here because these cities are unknown to me. Simple as that. You've coved every topic and I disagreed. You're WAY overthinking this. I hope you don't feel the need to go on and on all week over irrelevant things like this. Please goodness no.

I'd suggest keep these areas a secret to avoid an unnecessary population boom that will turn these areas into high cost ones.

    Nick -about Hendersonville. It is in a flood plain. Right now it has had at least 10 days of constant rain. Sections of the city, at the lower elevations, have to be flooded. I'd consider Hendersonville, except my natural fear is buying a home and experiencing a flood that wrecks property big time.

    Southern Pines and Pinehurst are very nice towns. If you're a local or live near by (i.e Robeson County), you know they're similar to Fayetteville though. I'd still choose Moore County over Cumberland County ANY day of the week. Better doctors, love the downtown area, and some of the best small shops and restaurants and as you said, a lot of retirees. But at least you can walk your dog in peace.

    Near the coast is better. Just go about 20 miles inland and its usually cheaper. I lived in Jacksonville, NC and was only 17 minutes away from the ocean. It was cheaper to live there and I like the community and all the little communities near the ocean that not to far to drive to. Up and down the coast from Atlantic Beach, NC to Emerald Isle, NC. Which are my favorite spots. But love it all North Topsail Beach and more.

    The median home prices must have forgotten to listen to your video. We checked out Hickory, Morganton and Hendersonville this week. Stayed in Asheville for a night, homes there pretty pricy too. I was stationed in NC in the early 2000’s at Bragg in Fayettenam, so to go to the mountains and be able to sit by a fire with a long sleeve shirt on in the evenings was a real treat (we had friends from our native communist NY state who have a brother in Asheville got to visit them for a couple days and that cooler weather was very memorable for me). Upstate NY is a lot like parts of western Carolina and South Carolina, unfortunately our politics and policies have never been the greatest and really have been going down hill for the last ten years or so. The rural people always get outvoted by the downstaters though, and the few cities upstate also tend to vote for those same policies that NYC loves.
