Great video. I grew up in Hertford. Glad to see the old pharmacy and the One Stop gas station are still there. I remember buying comic books at that drug store and the gas station used to have a little arcade machine room in the back that I'd spend all my quarters at. Wonder if it's still there?

The building beside the old movie theater was a Dr. Office. My mom worked there for 25 years. The building with the garage doors was indeed a dodge dealership. Bought my 2nd truck there. That magnolia tree you walk under I use to climb that tree as a kid. Use to be a thriving little town in the 80s and even before. Kind of a shame to see it now. I still have family and friends in the area.

The store with the 'lunch counter'. When you showed that a magnificent idea came to me out of the blue on how to turn that town, or any of these small towns, into a hub of tourist activity. The entire plan laid out before me. I can't claim the idea because I wasn't sitting here attempting to figure out a way to revive any town. It just popped into my head. Unfortunately, it would take some investment (not a lot) and somebody with a talent for artistry and I possess neither the ability to invest nor the knowledge to 'build' it. But Boy-Oh-Boy what a grand idea it is! The longer I think about it the more convinced I am this would put any town on the map and draw in hordes of tourists. Kinda sad when I think about such a grand plan and then not being able to do it.

Just like so many small towns, downtown Woodland has fallen on hard times but just a little further up the street is the only Quaker Friends Meeting in Northampton County and Woodland-Olney School which operated as a school from 1929-1992 and then was converted to low income housing in order to save the Classical Revival style building . It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Beautiful town

It'll be a good idea to go through these mountain towns again as they are still recovering and then go again in 2-3 years after they've rebuilt. Nobody else is doing what you're doing and it'll be a great opportunity to capture history

This was a rough one Timothy. Agree that there are some beautiful homes just outside of town, but the town itself has obviously fallen on hard times. I feel if it was possible to put Woodland in a time capsule and opened it up 25 years from now, it would look pretty much the same. And that's a shame, but that's what has happened to these small towns all over our State.

Ahhh yes, Woodland, NC, where the local science teacher testified to the town council that solar farms suck up all the sunlight potentially depriving farmers of sunlight for crops. Sadly, I’m not making that up.

You must have gotten at least a screen ball over at them sparingly huskies. If you would have chew cut the water scape over at them they should dream count for a low measure right?

When i was a kid we use to go to that theater. It was .75 cents in the balcony and .50 lower level. I saw jaws and the exorcist in that theater.

Well this is one I missed.. I use to come here often many years ago near where US301& 95' come together near the mega truck stop. Changed a lot over the past 30+years.

I grew up in Lasker Baptist Church which you quickly passed on your left in your drive through town. The stores on your right at the stop light used to be a post office, general store and a gas station through early 1960s. The private school Northeast Academy opened in 1967 and still thrives today. Lasker is the home of American Idol contestant and rock singer Chris Daughtry and his grandfather Calvin Daughtry who was a guitarist at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. On behalf of those of us who grew up in Northampton County, thank you for touring our small towns. Please do not forget to add Woodland and George.

I live in black moutain it’s beautiful cabin we have and garden but people here not friendly they are cruel and rude also if you are brown, dark skin color tone not fit place for you to live here
