    Really cool winter setup you got. I was considering a space heater to beat the canadian winter, but your propane heater looks way better. Awesome!

    I have slept in the back of my truck for almost 2 years. Your setup is similar to mine. I don't leave my propane heater on for more than 10 minutes at a time. I have summer and winter reflectix window covers. The winter covers have 3/4" foam taped to the reflectix. The coldest interior temperature that I woke up to is approximately -2°c. The exterior temp was -11°c. When temps drop below that, I head south or indoors. I have friends that are life savers. In January of this year I drove to LA to help a friend move. I did a 10 desert trip and loved winter in the desert when the coldest it gets is -1°c. And sun all day to charge my power packs. Awakened at 6am by a pack of howling coyotes outside my truck. That was awesome. I can understand why many prefer this location. Mind you, I would head back north by May. The RV resorts around Salton Sea are only open from October to April. Too hot in the summer.
    Rambling.
    But, I love the simplicity of the truck life. Just a topper/canopy, though. :-) It's taken 2 years to refine the flow and design. Tinkering. Removing stuff I just don't need. Very simple content life.
    Thanks for reading.

    Since heat rises, move your outflow vent as low as possible. It will help heat the floor area and still rise to the top.

      I agree... the only reason I didn't put the vent lower is that it would be under the mattress when i expand the bed for 2 people

    I used the reflective stuff last winter and it made a big difference plus I could sleep later in the morning too.

    from what you said about a carpeted ceiling i'm assuming you have a fiberglass top. i have a metal one, so part of my build was putting 1 inch blue foam board in all cavaties. then covered the inside in reflectex. with window cover pieces. still working on a heater for the backend. willbe using a military ecw sleeping bag system in mine.

      My topper is indeed fiberglass! Sounds like you've got a good thing going on! With the full insulation, I bet you won't need much additional heat at all!
      You can check out my previous camper video for a bit of details on the propane heat exchanger I installed. They make diesel ones too. So far I love it, but it's only one method. Curious what you settle on!

    Hey bro! Another truck camper channel here 👋🏻 - do you have a link for those reflector window covers? Looking to buy some. It’s going to get colllllllldddddd soon enough 😅

    • @calebplumleeoutdoors
      @calebplumleeoutdoors  Рік тому

      Howdy. My window covers are DIY. I used reflectex material from my local hardware store. I then used spray adhesive to attach black fabric to the window side of each cover and sewed velcro around each edge.

      @@calebplumleeoutdoors ok sweet! Thanks for getting back to me. I currently don’t have any window covers and so when I have the light on I look like a zoo animal 😂

    Now I would like to see you cook and eat. (Not that I like watching people eat but if you're going to cook you have to eat it) I love watching people cook.

    Happy new year, My name is Mark I live in Ohio its my first time truck camping Help how do you hook up your heater ?

  • @gittngo
    @gittngo 2 роки тому +1

    maybe try and put your air intake lower in the build somewhere, It would regulate the temperature better causing the heater to run less.

    I’m digging that heater setup! Do I see frost inside the truck bed? I did a 3000 mile trip in my truck this summer, I slept in my truck bed. I have a fiberglass topper, but I could feel to cold from the truck bed. I’m going to put blue foam insulation in before I put the drawer/bed build out. Yep, those reflectix window covers work great. I had them on my Westy, you could be sitting in the sun and the heat would be kept to a minimum. I have them on my topper windows now. Again, great job ! 🙌🏼

    I truck camp similar to you. 6 inch memory foam mattress, for cold weather I never run heat at night, just for 15 minutes or so at bedtime and morning. I have both an electric heater and a Buddy heater like yours. I don't do window insulation and leave my crank out windows cracked open for ventilation so I don't have condensation all over. I always use temp appropriate bags except for Summer, lowest I've done (in a buddy's backyard as a test)is minus 5 with minus 15 wind chill. Was fine but not near as nice or fun as using the electric heater that keeps it like 60 plus degrees no matter how cold it is. I Winter camp up here in SD all the time and really enjoy it.. Really like the minimal setup and not dealing with wet everything when tent camping.

    "Blacked-out" effect instead of shiny & looks like you're doing something "Shady"!?!
    Because Blacked-out windows....isn't Suspicious 😂😂😂
    Love your videos 😋❤️😅

      Lol, you make a valid point. I suppose my logic is that from a distance, "blacked-out" looks more like heavy tint than shiny aluminum does 🤷?
      My girlfriend and I got window knocked by a cop last summer and told to move for the evening... I should have asked that guy what would look less shady! 🤣

    Some people are willing to take a pice of carbon fiber miles beneath the ocean to prove their point you won’t even step outside in a skidoo suit in -6 American for a minute to prove yours.

    if your gear is poly and nylon....its plastic fiber stuff. Crap.
    Next season go for Wool and natural fibers.
