Love video, I put an auto switch that goes from engine battery, to auto on when key or engine is running, to truck bed battery to charge my remote when engine is running cost 35 to 75$. ~ say 30 amp to 50 amp or more, Amazon. Could add toggle switch instead or in line w auto switch. Easy & simple to install, never loose battery in camper this way & never drain start battery . Also an always charged battery could power a small USB outlet fan ( & phone charger) to run at night to circulate roof heat around, likely shutting thermostat down saving LP and battery not needed to run heater fan as often. FYI.

I often get these little nuisance projects done while at a camp out! By the way. Can a 1 lb bottle of propane power this heater in an emergency, or could the 3 spares we carry for our camp gas stove be used for a road trip. Small ones filled can be bought most anywhere including Walmart

I wanted to like this heater. But, the non adjustable heat was issue. To hot for my taste. As you mentioned the bottom tank holder plastic is garbage. Then add the updated cheaper option of the green 1lb disposable tanks putting plastic bottoms vs metal all way down. This become dangerous to me. I was using my heater and the plastic \ glue gave way dropping that hot heater. Good thing I was not in a tent that would have melted. I stopped using mine in total. But, I have since moved to 1lb flame king tanks with metal all way down. But, even still yes I agree get a better tank holder still. I really like the mod you did. I may have to look into doing this so I can start using mine again of course with a new stand holder still. Man I hate that stand..Great job and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the build tour. Nice heater system. Good job sealing. I'd like to see more of how you did it. (first visit to your channel, so I will look there since it's been 2 years.) My first '92 Toyota PU had the elevated topper, which I liked, but I couldn't afford the carpet kit (which I though was just a cosmetic luxury). I found that at extreme low temps (-20 to 5 deg F)my breath condensation would form an icicle over my head and drip on me all night! No matter where you moved, it would follow you. My next truck got the carpet treatment and what a difference. You still breath condensation but it's more like diffuse frost. Since I winter camp at these temps, I had the gear. Fun to be a tele-ski bum for 2-3 weeks /year, wake up in the parking lot near the ticket booth, drop the gate and put coffee and oatmeal while still in your bag. Envy of everyone clomping by. How do you secure the windows from the inside. I sometimes used a vice grips on the tailgate window.🎿

    • @calebplumleeoutdoors

Yes it does. It operates with a standard type thermostat. It heats to target temp, shuts off, and then kicks on again after the temp drops (I think it's 3 or 4deg below target before it turns back on... can't recall offhand)

Propane heater... not very economical. The exhaust is tucked way under the truck so exhaust can collect under the truck if there is no wind and potentially end you. That exhaust should be pointed away from the underside of the truck a little past the edge of the outside of the truck. Or you can actually buy a port hole that installs onto the outside body of your truck and you attach the exhaust to it under the truck and it makes a clean looking exhaust hole safely to the outside of your truck. Then you have the propane take right in there with you... it's just not even worth the risk. You should have went with a diesel heater.

i drilled som holes in the side lid which I use to open them. under the matras I have 3 boxes with the same system as your side box also with lids and holes to store my stuff. the big board you use to expand your bed floor is cutted in 3 peaces. one is small enough to be placed vertical and than use it as a backrest when I sit in the canopy. the other can be used as a (night)table when you need to sit inside during wet weather. that gives you the possibility to sit straight in your canopy to eat or read or doing whatever you like to do. if I need to transport something big then you still can complete your platform by completing all tree of the boards. I don't know if my explanation is a little bit clear but if you need pictures send me a message by messenger.

Since heat rises, move your outflow vent as low as possible. It will help heat the floor area and still rise to the top.

You can fit amilitary sized cot, at 77 inches. ..the entire underneath can be used for storage, I have actually come to the conclusion, our 6ft 6 beds are made for standard gurneys... like medical emergency people use. Thanks for sharing.
