  • In this Video due to the "test" message that Shows up in some Dell computer models when trying to update the Bios version from a USB flash Drive. I create a bootable USB drive that contains a light version of Windows 7. This in order to avoid the "test" message.
    UPDATE: This method is advisable if you get the "test" or "this can't be run on DOS mode "messages when trying to update your BIOS version using a bootable USB. However, depending on the computer model you have it may or may not work.

    First of All, thanks for your hard work.
    I couldn't update without a battery or with a dead battery, they asked for 10% charged battery, Dell Inspiron 15r SE 7520 i7, I don't know what to do, battery is expensive and lasts little.
    You missed a step before the last one, without this, it says it's not bootable.
    copy "c:\program files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86\ImageX.exe" c:\winpe_x86\iso\

    I've been searching on ages on how to update my Acer AIO because I use Linux.
    After failing to follow the hard method of youre's and just follow the instruction on Microsoft site.
    I just lazily copy the Acer BIOS update to the WinPE USB and cross my finger.

    So, after the WinPE USB start
    just type C:

    Any idea why the condition of the battery has anything to do with anything when its plugged into the wall?

    • @MyITWorkshop
      @MyITWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Morgan,
      With this specific Dell "Inspiron" family, the Bios update file itself that you download from the Dell website has a document in which it requires the battery to be in working condition....(can't really tell what they (Dell) did that).
      This value can be changed, I know that because I've done it.....(it's just a line in the file like "Battery check = 1"). The problem shows up when trying to run the update either from the regular bootable or Win PE USB, it says something like "update not found", which is different from the "Battery not detected" message.
      Since then, I haven't yet found another method to do it...... :/
      Thanks for the comment!

      I'm working on an Alienware m17x R4...
      I replaced both platter style HDD's with solid state HDD's, so I have no OS a available. I was able to set them both to RAID 0 through the F2 bios setup. I also have a fresh windows 10 USB. However, I cant use said USB without installing the proper drivers first; drivers contained within the alienware A15 BIOS update.
      I can't update the BIOS without getting the "test." Response through the freedos USB.
      Is there any way possible to get past this hurdle without purchasing a new battery? (That's $75 I'm not trying to spend... but I will if I ultimately must.😒)
      Thanks

    • @MyITWorkshop
      @MyITWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Morgan,
      The “test” message (at least in the inspiron family) still shows up even with a working battery. The Win PE bootable usb solves that problem for SOME DELL MODELS.
      Have you checked if there is the possibility to update the Bios ver from the Bios/Uefi menu?
      If that doesn’t work on your Dell Alienware and you cant install windows due to the Bios version......what I would do, if posible/available, is install windows on another laptop and ssd, once done, take the ssd out and install it on your Alienware, it will take some minutes to adjust to the new hardware. Once that’s completed I would try to update the Bios version from windows itself and then try if the raid 0 and the usb with windows 10
      now works.....
      Sounds like a lot....hope it helps!
      Thanks for the comment

    Ok I didn't get "test", I got "This cannot be run in DOS mode", or so. I am stuck.
    In case you heard of the "System BIOS Update Utility", please could you explain it's use? When I open that file I only get something like a text file containing a lot of command options. (If that is all about that file, I could just switch to "cmd", right?)
    I can start some process, but I always end upt with a message telling me "Corrupted interface descriptors in the new BIOS file.
    Part table Signature not found in the interface. Error code: -161" Should I try and download the BIOS anew and try then?
    Ok I thought I had found my erroe: I have to execute "cmd" as admin. Now the command line starts "C:\Windows\system32>", and when I add "A15.exe s/ r/ there, I simply get "Don't read C:\Windows\system\A15.exe".
    Do I have to keep the newly downloaded BIOS file at "downloads"?
