I hate that they killed Hershel off. He was everyone’s father/grandfather, the voice of reason, and everyone’s sounding board. I wish they would have let him go from old age or something like that..
@Olivia Rocchio Wilson wasn't affected by Leukemia during shooting, it's not known when it started to affect him but Hershel's death was just one of those decisions. Hershel was actually supposed to be killed by Randall in the Episode "Better Angels" but they chose to let him stay to see how he would develop as a character after losing the farm, which ultimately was pretty much the same as his comic book counterpart but I think he became more of a fan favorite in the show than the comic.

Ever since Michonne killed the Governor’s zombified daughter & took his eye out the Governor wanted to kill her. So for him to choose to decapitate Hershel instead of Michonne was just not a credible decision by the producers. They should’ve had the Governor capture Hershel & just about anyone else instead of Michonne.
I think it was okay to kill him. I know, we all love him and he will always be remember. But just think. We all know all the governor situation changed Rick so much. And that was needed for the show. The development that Rick Grimes had meant everything for the show. I think that is because the governor killed Hershel, rick's mentor. If the governor didn't kill Hershel I think we wouldn't have the Rick Grimes we have today. And Hershel was going to die at some point. He was an old, strong, but old man. Imagine all the terminus situation with Hershel there. It would have been so hard for him. So yea, I think it was okay to kill him. We will always love you so much, rest in peace Hershel 🕊️❤️
I would argue no character in TWD evolved more IN A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME than Hershel Greene. It's kinda surreal to think he was only in the show for 2 1/2 seasons yet his impact can be felt more than some characters who last 3x as long. His evolution from a God fearing, stern and at times bordering on cruel man into someone with so much hope, wisdom and morality to offer our group, particularly during their conflict with the Governor. When Rick says they can live together with the Governor in the prison it's desperation, Rick's last resort to try and avoid bloodshed and conflict, but I believe Hershel truly means it. Perhaps Glenn is the only other character with the capacity to see the good in everyone the way Hershel does. His death was tragic but that's the effect you want from a beloved characters death. Unlike some other ones, I don't recall seeing many people complain about the timing or manner in which Hershel was killed as far as it served the story. Let's be honest, who among you thought the oldest character, even older than Dale or Carol, would last through the apocalypse? 😂 I'm glad for the time we got with Papa Hersh. He was a real one ❤
When Herschel died it was the beginning of the end of that show in my opinion then Glenn's death killed it the rest of the way after that it became a over-the-top Goofy cartoon series
