I love how Rick stays cool even though he can see the train is going off the tracks. Most would panic and raise their voice and get animated to ward off what is coming. He stayed patient and acted when it counted. Great scene.

Rick’s police training definitely showed here He recognized very quickly that Tony was looking to Dave for signals on what to do indicating that they have a system in place and have done this little game before When Tony walks over to take a piss That was clearly getting himself into a strategical position Then Dave also got up and positioned himself directly on the other side of Rick putting him directly between the 2 At that moment Rick went into prepared mode and was ready to draw at a split seconds notice Tony and Dave had sized up the 3 of them and assessed Rick as the only real threat they knew if they took him out the other 2 would not put up a fight But again Rick saw that and stayed ready even after Dave tried to lure him into a false sense of security by putting his gun on the bar When he lunged for it Rick fired a shot before Dave was even able to raise the gun Then just as impressively was able to be calm and cool enough to keep in the back of his head exactly where the other guy was to turn completely around and shoot him multiple times before he could even react to his friend being taken out. Absolute moment of badassery from Rick Now Hershel has a reason to let Rick stay He made it clear that he can read people and situations with deadly accuracy and that he will help keep Hershel’s family safe from the threat that is just as dangerous if not more so than walkers.

I think it stayed pretty solid all the way through season 7 or whichever one was the last one with Rick. Even after that it was a good show, just not as good as when it started out. The last couple seasons were also quite a bit better than the two or three that came before them.
Hershel had his family isolated. He didnt exactly know how the world was. He is providing safety and a home for ricks group and ricks group provides security and additional hands. Hershel realizing he needed some younger guys good with the trigger.
When you are in fear for your life, the worst thing you can do is hesitate. This scene shows pure training and instincts that anyone can learn and apply.

Glenn was terrified and likely never encountered a life threatening situation like this. By Season 3 or 4, then that Glenn would easily help Rick. Daryl was always prepared for dangerous situations, so you aren't wrong there.
After seeing the show again, Rick shooting the guy in the head after killing him was a nice touch because he knows the information about the virus from the doctor at the CDC and everybody else in the group, including us as the viewers who watched it for the first time at the time, have no idea yet.
Such a small detail I didn’t pick up on until I re watched when he killed them he aimed for there heads first guy got head shotted second guy got shot in his chest twice then he shot them in his head after during this time nobody know that no matter how you die you turn not even the audience only Rick when Jenner told him

"I dont know what do you guys want to do?" Glen darts his eyes back and fourth unable to provide an answer, Hershel, being drunk and having given up hope sort of shrugs and looks like he might say something but Tony, sensing the indecisiveness, interjects with a hand clap and says with a smile, "its settled then! lets head up to old mcdonalds farm and see what you got!" Rick complies and all 5 get in the car and drive off. The episode ends.

he really didnt, it was hanging all the way down his back and he was sitting and relaxed. rick saw that in the mirror and knew it could turn around in the time it would take him to stand up, especially with such a light gun
