Didn't Mike Philips from Autogeek have a detailing based show on cable for a very short run many years ago? My father swears he remembers watching it.. He is still a regular on Velocity/Motortrend selling something or other. I've seen Larry before as well, I distinctly remember watching him steam cleaning the hell out of the paint on a filthy barn find car.
This is really amazing - education and instruction from two experts for FREE. I remember just a few years ago, trying to get this type of information from a professional detailer was impossible - "trade secrets". Thank you to Larry for making this information available and for taking the time to do it!
Great initiative Larry!! You've accomplished a lot in your own career and rather than enjoying it all alone, you're sharing your knowledge with others...a very meaningful way of giving back to the enthusiasts!
What I like about watching Larry over OG is that Larry KNOWS what he is doing. Its actual learning the proper way from real pros. Matt just wants money, he dont want to be a detailer, or care to be in the industry, he just wants you to buy his stuff. For beginners, that is SO misleading. Right on Larry!
I bought all my supplies based on OG and Pan. I knew nothing, and had to study each element. I really think Larry is doing a real public service in a way that no one else is. I was ready to pay for a class to learn how to use a DA polisher, but here I have it and all for free.
There is so much knowledge in these video. I think links to your detailing video should be included in every detailing machine or product ever sold so the customers receive the best result possible.
Technique, a lot of patience and knowing that nothing is more important than trying to maintain the original integrity of the painting. Perfect idea you passed on. Congratulations
Larry you and Kevin’s did a great job breaking down a complex topic into a 20 minute sound bite. I’m glad you covered that most of the UV protection in clear coat is near the top of the layer. Once gone its gone for the most part. Lastly you never really know what’s been done to the car before you get it. Was it wet sanded, aggressively compounded, damaged and repaired etc. I can not believe how few detailers either own or use a thickness measuring gauge before correcting paint. It’s not the end all be all tool but sure helps in diagnosing paint issues. When I was being taught this stuff the reference was a 3M sticky note representing the thickness of the clear coat.
Learning more and more about detailing, especially from someone who's a complete legend in the industry, is everything a detailer would want and than some. Really happy you're providing this to everyone from beginner to pro.
Finally, geeky Detailing series. We really miss these kind of topics. Keep the amazing work Larry and thank you for all the knowledge you give up for free.
THE ABSOLUTE best detailing content on UA-cam!!! It’s crazy you’re doing this for free Larry & Kevin! And this Meredith person WON THE LOTTERY!!! PS - its NUTS this has 14K views in less than probably 12 hours!
Glad to see Kevin has done well for himself. He use to come in frequently to a speed shop I worked at in southern California in the late 80’s early 90’s, California Discount Warehouse.
What a cool question, how well can someone do after 5-6 hours off the street as a complete novice? Lol you mean like probably every single person watching this video? There is a lot of great information out there, but I seriously appreciate when the Channel's content is spot on. Good information also starts with knowing your audience, aka Speech 101. No wonder it's 2M subscribers, definitely one of the larger paint channels.
I just have to say I love that you're offering this info for FREE, I've learned a lot just in the beginner series and since have noticed so many "love marks" that need to be corrected so I've been waiting for this. Thank you so much for all that you do. Even if I don't plan to go into business of detailing, at least I can take care of my own car and family members cars knowing I have the correct knowledge!!
The knowledge you get with this training are priceless, two of the best sharing their experiences and years of success and mistakes they must likely went through to gain all this information. Just THANK YOU.
This training and information is priceless. To have the chance to learn from these guys who spend 10's of years to develop these skills and show us for free all that information in its best explained way,for me is really priceless!!!Thank you Larry and thank you Kevin!!!
I don’t know how I know this but I’ve always told myself to take it easy first before using a polisher. See what I can do gradually before I pull the polisher out. This video just confirmed I was on the right thought process. So THANK YOU! I truly appreciate this series!!!
You guys have repeatedly helped me to produce a finish I was quite proud of. I’ve stopped mid project to watch a video and figure out why I’m stuck countless times, and you cover *everything*.
*This is PURE GOLD!* Thank you for posting these superb, informative videos. I have recently started machine polishing/paint correction as an additional service in my vehicle rustproofing business- it's a steep learning curve, so these lessons are fantastic.
Damn, these guys are good. I’ll be watching and rewatching all the episodes time and again. My older grandkids, since they now have their own cars will be watching, too. Thanks, Larry and Kevin.
Great Video as always! Huge YES. I (we) my son and I have vastly detuned our "I got this" attitude. Have learned to calm down, investigate way more carefully then proceed. Most of all, be realistic about the end results.
have had my black Warrior Mitsubishi for a year and is 15 yrs old and dull looking. Will use your guidance on these skills My sincerest Thanks for your uploads. Best Wishes to You and all Subscribers. from the UK
These videos are FANTASTIC. Your approach to laying out the knowledge for people to absorb is just great. Keep up the great work. Always a joy watching/learning from the masters.
Another AMMO video, I couldn't click in faster. Thank you for providing so much information at the price of my time. I have my first detailing competition coming up and wouldn't be able to say that without having learned from your content. Keep it coming!
G'day Larry, Thank you and Kevin Brown for giving up your time to explain in depth to what ATA 200 will provide in upcoming videos not just for the detail enthusiast or DIY, but also for the professional detailer. Look forward to ATA 202. Ozz
Paint expanding and contracting under different temps, makes sense know, I guess if it didn't it would just crack. It's like a bridge, a bridge expands and contracts with temp changes as well as moves when you drive across it, if it didn't it would collapse. Thank you for making this video series, can't wait to watch the next one.
This is a gem of youtube. Excellent audio & video, clear and well thought out topics. It's clear that everyone involved really cares. Can't wait for the other parts.
Awesome! Thanks to Larry and Kevin for being absolute stand up guys for sharing their professional opinions and lessons/teachings. I really want to start detailing my own stuff to not only save money, but also have the experience if I ever wanted to get a job in that field, so this series will be super helpful. Again, thanks Larry and Kevin for being awesome
Thank you for sharing.. Wish I watched this 10 years ago.. Just got this video today.. But learning is never late.. I have been maintaining my car for 14 years (washing, waxing, polishing, waxing again etc).. Made some mistakes, 1 paint burnt, etc.. I ll watch more,of the episodes hope to open my mind and learn more. Great thanks
Such a necessary video. Perfection at what cost? This reminds me to correct the paint, but don't get overly aggressive. Then protect it, and keep it protected. Thanks to Larry and Kevin.
Thanks professor larry, invaluable knowledge, I've been detailing for 25 yrs now, I love learning something new, I can't wait for the next vid in series, you're awesome larry
Thanks Larry for share with us all the most of your experience, knowledge, techniques and all the time spend to do this. I really learn a lot with all yours teach videos. thanks again and keep on always on your great work.
Great video - and from earlier videos you have done I have been practicing "do no harm" for years now. Clean, shine and protect, but do not harm. Thank you!
I would love for this series to also cover single stage paint (both base color only and base/clear mix). Certainly most vehicles one encounters today are 2 stage, but someone might still need to address this older style of paint. Specificaly I have a Toyota built in the year 2000 which is painted with single stage paint (T040 Super White) which from what I have reached is a color and clear mix applied in a single layer. Many detailing videos cover correction of 2 stage paint but I've not found much for single stage. The level of detail you cover and the care you take with vehicles makes you is what makes me enjoy and trust the information you provide. Thank you and I look forward to future episodes in this series.
2 things: First, I love the "do no harm" concept for detailing. So often I see detailers quote paint correction on something that is either too deep (remove all CC) or so shallow that consistent wax/sealant will render similar results without permanent repercussions. Second, I am curious about the temperature shock and delamination from a DA versus normal environmental effects. Think of a black car in Arizona: If its in a garage, especially a garage with A/C all night, then drives out into the sun at high noon, the temperature shock will be MASSIVE. I've never felt like I could cook an egg on a panel after polishing, but there is plenty of proof you can do just that on a black surface in Arizona summer. Compared to these environmental effects, which auto manufacturers account and test for, the heat shock to the paint from polishing seems negligible. There is always an exception, like polishing one tiny area too much or leaving a rotary in place, but that is just poor polishing technique. With good technique, why would polishing cause expansion/delamination that extends beyond the engineered functional life cycle of the paint? Anybody got any knowledge to drop?
This has always intrigued me too. Certainly most if not all manufacturers would do environmental testing (in addition to the testing done by the paint/coatings supplier). I’ve seen a few videos where people have attempted to force delamination via DA - and it seems very difficult and I’d view this risk on a case by case basis. I think modern paint systems are very durable and can take a lot of punishment. Still - I believe this is a critical concept to understand and something to be respectful and aware of and as a detailer.
WOW! Best video on automotive paint! Love all the props that you guys used to help us understand. I can’t wait for the rest of the 200 series! Thank you!
Just found this course and channel. Wow it's amazing! I'm glad someone is teaching the fundamental. Can't wait to see the rest! Keep up the good work guys!
Fantastic video! Blew my mind to say the least. I really appreciate you taking the time to break things down. I was taught how to hand polish as a kid. I wanted to speed up the process. DA polishing is no joke -- a craft in itself.
Great video Larry you guys are making very good video's! I always tell my customers the meaning of paint correcting. I try to correct the paint of the car in the least paint (clear coat) removing way an try to get the highest results. This means there are boundaries and sometimes you just can't remove everything. Love your channel and Kevin Brown is also a detailing genius.
One of Jimmy Buffets friends said "Don't tell me how I'm going to die, just tell me where. And I won't go there." Not verbatim. Great rule for learning what not to do. Thanks Larry!
as useally very good information. This could be an 1.5 hour episode and i'd watch it over and over. there is soo much to learn about paint and what is does in normal conditions or when polishing and sanding. Also love the way you act when talking about the deep stuff. really knowledge hunger. I like that im that way too
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience Larry. Paint is it's own animal as I can attest to as a full time production painter, and a custom paint artist. I'm very much looking forward to this series to educate me further on my own auto detailing.
Larry NEEDS HIS OWN SHOW AND NETWORK
Well he did, that's what /Drive Clean was about.
@@DanielChaves1984 Yes i know it was on the DRIVE network but im saying his OWN NETWORK and show 24/7
I completely utterly AGREE!!
Technically he has one🤔
This is really amazing - education and instruction from two experts for FREE. SO excited for the 200 series!! This education is for free; yet so high quality. I thank you Larry for teaching me tips every day!!!
Great initiative Larry!! You've accomplished a lot in your own career and rather than enjoying it all alone, you're sharing your knowledge with others...a very meaningful way of giving back to the enthusiasts!
Kevin Brown with his hand motions when explaining things is the sign of a dedication in his work..
Whos matt :O
Amirul Asyraaf obsessed garage
I bought all my supplies based on OG and Pan. I knew nothing, and had to study each element. I really think Larry is doing a real public service in a way that no one else is. I was ready to pay for a class to learn how to use a DA polisher, but here I have it and all for free.

I can honestly say after over 10 years of detailing I have never thought of that concept before! Great video as always 👍🏻

Larrys passion is intoxicating
Kevin B. is a great guy. I needed his help converting over from old 1980 rotary tech to the new DA polishers. He is a wealth of knowledge.

It’s very good and important information for those guys want to do the paint correction
I really appreciate your teaching
This awesome man! Thank you!
Excited for this series! Hopefully I can watch all of them before it’s time to polish my car in spring.
This is why paint protection film is the best thing to do for your car. Protects the clearcoat and also self heals any scratches on the film.
