There is, of course, savant syndrome, but he could've meant the first definition. And I doubt he means to call Zero Master bad at everything else.
The madman was also the first to complete Ultra Nightmare for both Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. The latter was done within 4 days of the game's release.

He's legit fantastic, though props should be given to guys like Ancalagon, 4shockblast, and stx-Vile, who are among the very few who have beaten and tied difficult records like these, and in some categories can actually compete with Zero Master.
How old is he? It would be interesting if he is younger than doom, it would make it an interesting question how he became so interested in playing a game made before he was born.
Something tells me this Zeromaster cat might like the Doom franchise a lot. May even be a pretty skilled player.

What I learned from this video is that if there's an impossible challenge unsolved, Zero Master will be on the case!
Its wild how good they is at finding this stuff and at how amazing they are at playing DOOM

I did notice something in that video - the fact he relied on that one Chaingunner to kill the Mancubi. Would it even become remotely possible if said Chaingunner wasn't there to begin with?

I was bummed that decino didn't mention that HE did that himself recently. He mentioned EVERYONE in all the other challenges! He totally deserved the credit for that one.

Zero Master doing Icon of Sin pacifist was the most insane thing I've seen
Metal as hell.
And now we wait for a non-TAS pacifist run...we all know a madman will eventually attempt it.
To put it into perspective, It took 4shockblast *50,000+* tries to do E1M1 in 8 seconds, a record that took almost 20 years to break.
@@SoldierOfFate I've seen E1M1 being done in 6s on a TAS run. I'm guessing that with 500k or so more attempts, he can make it in 7s. :P
In 25 years I NEVER knew IoS has a deathmatch area.
Zero-master is a legend and his tendency to snatch back lost records is an impressive feat. You spam out attempts and improve your skills to eventually sit on the throne and beat a Zero-master record. The goat undisturbed returns and knocks you out with a flying knee Jorge Masvidal style and regains his seat of power.

being stuck in a wall while a lost soul bites you to death sounds like some kind of medieval torture method...
off topic. In 3:30 I love the neat detail of a lot of dead marine bodies and mangled corpse piles lying around where the cyber demon is and also outside to show they all fought and died against a single cyber demon.
Maybe even got ambushed or made a raid from the outside and didn't make it further. I love small details like this.

The gameplay videos are always tight, but these video essays are my favorite part of this channel.
My God, there are some dedicated Doom players out there with some crazy skills (including our man decino!)
There's need for a new category: ZMAS -Zero Master Assisted Speedrun.
I love this 'yellow series', too. This videos are as informative as they are entertaining.
Specially this shows that specific situations needed outstanding skills, luck and a lot of pasience to make the seemingly impossible possible.

So out of the 19 maps shown, 5 maps are technically impossible to do and 3 are not standard yet. If anyone does those 5 maps and has the proof of the deed, they're going to be written in history.

I was actually confused about this. They're saying the level itself is impossible on nightmare? Not just impossible in pacifist mode?
It took over 13 years for the level to be beaten on NM. It was considered impossible until then

I'm surprised how much of Decino's fanbase never knew about Zero Master. I think I first learned about him when watching one of King Dime's GDQ Doom speedruns.
The thought of using an army of archviles to roast you so hard you go flying into a targets face and he gets roasted by thd other 900 fire balls is just mystifying.
Not sure how I feel about not being greeted when I open a Decino video, but I'm really looking forward to some more informative Doom content. This is gonna be good.
There are few playerbases out there that are as dedicated as Doom's. Even 20+ years later, people are still trying to break records and discover secrets that are deemed impossible. That says a lot in today's gaming environment where triple A titles are swept under the rug and forgotten within a matter of months.

Map09 of TNT went *unbeaten* on Nightmare! until 2010!? That's insane. I don't think I've ever heard of a normal/non-secret level that people knew about in a game as old as TNT going unbeaten for so long. I guess Nightmare! really was put in as a sick joke by the devs.
pen_BERRIES I really do think it was a troll mode, like Id maybe thought Ultra-Nightmare for DOOM 2016... which has been demolished in challenge runs!
Great job to everyone who beat these challenges (and those after this video was posted too)! There is a lot of creative thinking in some of them, especially pacifist runs.

A fun challenge is never too hard to do. Map30 of plutonia pacifist may be hell to do. But it is possible. The only issue would be other enemies attacking you.

stx-vile is the boss in the prologue who you beat down to 1% before a cutscene brings you to present day
Peter is the "bottleneck" for most casual players, but because he's so used to fast monsters and engine abuse he surprisingly goes down easy with dumb BFG spam
decino is the smooth-talking commander of your unit who turns out to be working for the enemy the entire game, and betrays you before becoming the second-last boss
Zero Master is the sonuvabitch final boss who bends you over royally until you realize you need to let the level environment kill him
Civvie11 is the joke boss in the secret level who throws Boomer Juice cans at you and yells "GET OFF MY FUCKING LAWN", but eventually fucks off and leaves Cancer Mouse to fight you because he sucks so much at Blood
