7:00 the air force used to have the "SKYHOOK" system to recover people. A guy would wear a harness attached to a rope. The rope would have a balloon inflated on the other end and an airplane would fly at the line and catch it and it'd yank the guy up into the air. Definitely should find a video on it. 👍🏻
Used in several moves over the years. The first two were "Thunderball" (James Bond) in 1965, and then "Green Berets" in 1969. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_surface-to-air_recovery_system
There was a Northern Ireland lass on Remembrance Sunday Parade who suffers from PTSD, she was i Chinook pilot on Medi Vacs flights and she did 10 tours of Afghanistan, one brave lady.
In the Marines in '74 I began my love for these beasts. My first experience was a 53 that took us to Wild Horse Canyon in the Philippines. It took us to the top of a mountain canyon side so I could practice calling in airstrikes for a couple of weeks. We couldn't land because of excessive winds so this chopper held steady a couple feet off the ground while we bailed out the side. After that I caught a ride in one every chance I got.
It's still crazy to me that Bill Burr has his helicopter's license. I know he probably can't fly these but you're stranded at sea and the helicopter pilot is Bill Burr lol
If you do see him, don’t get too excited he’s probably not gonna pick you up lmao “zombie coming? Fuck that! You can just sit in a hover eating cheese & crackers watching ppl get killed”

Germany is buying 60 of the Chinooks because it won their competition for heavy lift. Even though the basic design is from 1961 the Chinook has had massive upgrades from engines to digital software interfaces to armor to weapons. The US has plans for it to be around to 2060, a full century of service!
Love watching you guys react! One thing they didn't show is the Special Forces version of the CH-47 can actually land on the water. I've seen many videos of them landing and SEALs or SF drive a boat right up in the back of it. I got to fly in these a few times in my career in Afghanistan and on training missions here in the states and they truly are BEASTs!
Everyone who’s never been on a Chinook, the heat the engines produce on the back is crazy. Not only can you feel the heat you can feel the powerful engines as you enter or exit
Yesterday I watched a video about a 21 year old Marine that President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to. His name was Kyle Carter. I think you'd be interested in hearing his story of amazing heroism and why soldiers refer to each other as "brothers". You would never, ever expect anyone to survive what he did for his "brother".
I went to dinner two weeks ago with a girl in the Navy who looks more like a hippie than someone in the military. She had a huge tattoo of a bumblebee on her stomach and several more elsewhere. But her job is pretty serious...babysitting the nuclear reactor that powers an aircraft carrier. I asked her if it ever made her nervous and she just chuckled. She said people take in more radiation from the sun every time they fly than she ever will on board the ship.
On my last deployment...during a mission...one guy got left behind after finishing up 😂😂😂😂. They do head counts when you get off the helicopter and when you get back on....somehow the new guy was pulling security but missed the radio call to go back to the helicopter...And there was a misscount and he got left. They had to turn around and go back for him. Luckily he wasn't in any danger and got back safe. I laughed and couldn't believe he got left behind. I got on the radio and was like, "ummm...you're one guy short...he is still pulling security and hasn't noticed he is alone" 😂😂
When I was working in construction, my job brought me to many military bases and defense contractors. One of those was the Boeing Defense, Space, and Security's Chinook plant in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. I worked on the heliport there and was able to see brand new Chinooks taking off, flying, and landing on their first test flights. It was quite an experience and one amazing helicopter.
As a young soldier with the 101st Airborne/Air Assault Division, I would see these helicopters flying overhead with dangling cargo as I was walking around post and I remember hoping that whoever rigged it had done a good job.
In Iraq we had Chinooks. Terrifying. When your sitting in it, you can feel your ass spin with the blades, and when it lands it launches flares, which is terrifying if you weren't told. It's a terrifying bastard to behold.
10,138 horse power. My goodness! That is just enormous! The weight of that massive (100 foot) body of the Helicopter, and potentially 55 Soldiers! That kind of power still boggles my mind.
You'd be sweating in Iraq and Afghanistan thinking it was hot and then you'd go to get in the back of one of these and feel the exhaust and know real heat...
You hear the Chinook before you ever see the Chinook helicopter. The Chinook has a very distinctive sound then all other helicopters currently used or has ever been used by the US Military and militaries around the world.
If y'all are going to react to the CH-47, y'all should react to the MH-47 - flown by the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) nicknamed "Night Stalkers". The most bad ass helicopter pilots in the world.
there mare situations where you will clip into a rope and get flown around under a helicopter but it's not common for conventional units. only some specialized and infantry.
Interesting, that I was a door gunner on helicopter ( UH1) that went down in 1975 and the weapon hit me in the face and knocked out 18 of 32 teeth, and yes I do like mashed potatoes!!
The first thing they tell you when you get in a military helicopter (as a troop being transported) is to point your rifle muzzle down. In the case of some idiot having a negligent discharge, they prefer the bullet going down to the floor than up where the engines and rotors are.
Those things are amazing basically "air busses" so loud and the down draft it horrible ...fun fact theoretically that thing shouldn't be able to fly it flexes like a snake slithering when it flies
@XxGoFkYrselfxX the US Navy's version of the Blackhawk is called the Seahawk. The US Navy and the US Coast Guard both use the Seahawk which is a modified version of the Blackhawk. The Merlin is a bigger helicopter than the Blackhawk/ Seahawk is. The Merlin is most likely used by the US Army or the US Marines.

Would be pretty east to get mag dumped dangling in the air

Woman: "I'm a helicopter pilot for the US military"

Slight correction, his name is Kyle Carpenter. Very amazing kid.

I’ve had those fly over my house, you can hear that thing and feel it from a long ways!! Really cool
U guys have the best British accent I've heard haha🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
During Vietnam, they built a couple of ACH-47 gunships. They only ever built 4, for combat trials.
Guns a gogo
11:65 Jesus I thought they had no pants on. Didn’t see the short-shorts lol
There’s a video of US navy seals driving their RHIB into the back of a CH-47, it’s pretty incredible what we are capable of doing.

If the patient starts spinning they could lower back down into the water to stop the spin.
6:57 Pretty sure thats a real thing the military uses. The Fulton recovery system

I used to hate riding on these - we called them the Shithook helicopter.
It didn't even show them driving a zodiac into the Chinook which shouldn't be hard to find lol.

Why don't the 3 of you take turns with introductions? If I was Dave I'd be pulling my hair out a year ago 😁
Was it Prince Harry that flew a Sea Stallion in the Royal Navy?
How'd the sheep fare?
The Royal Air Force has dozens of these. As do most western nations.
