Sure. I mean, thats what bulletproof gear like kevlar, visors and helmets are for. And it takes a while to die from bullets anyway so, as long as you're not shot anywhere vital like the head, torso or neck, you usually would pull through and still live as long as medical attention has been seeked.
@@goatitisful The main difference is that the police officers are civilians while the Gendarme is a military and is operating mainly in rural areas and small towns. I'm German, our GSG 9 freed the passengers of the "Landshut" in Mogadishu in 1977. Luckily there were only injuries among the passengers and crew. Three terrorists were dead and one was seriously injured. Officials from GEG 9 later reported how critical such an operation is in the event of an aircraft storm. The GIGN comrades have achieved incredible things. The pilot and co-pilot (jumped out of an open cockpit window during the operation) and Flight engineer who were in the cockpit with the terrorists and who, if possible, were not allowed to come to any harm or even lose their lives. A minimal operational space and almost no protection for the GIGN, There were injured among them and they still withstood the fire and completed the operation. Fortunately, no deaths among the colleagues, but several people were injured, some seriously. Terrorists all dead. Mission successfully completed. Even though it was a long time ago, you have achieved an incredible feat. My/our deepest respect comes from Berlin-Germany.
I worked security for international passenger and cargo flights here in Houston for 3 years. For first 2 years i was working air france passenger and cargo every single day. Loved that job.
Still blows my mind to this day that they ever let that plane off the ground. It went from a risk of life to those on board to god knows what if they decided to crash somewhere. It worked out for the best, but that was one heck of a gamble.
Yeah it was actually a really dumb decision. Idk about France or Algeria but in the US, the protocol for highjacked commercial planes usually has a contingency for shooting the plane down with fighter jets as a last resort. It happened on 9/11 with the plane in PA and the one going for the pentagon. Even ex military members will tell you that the story about those 2 planes that was told in the media was bullshit.
@@bigbk3278 Side? The planes were shot down. The pentagon is literally our defense headquarters yet there's no footage of a plane crashing into it, just whatever was left of it after it was shot by a missile. It's not some conspiracy theory it's a fact.
Call it naïveté, but pre-9/11, any sort of suicide hijacking was considered unthinkable. The thinking was the hijackers always could be negotiated with or dealt with
Operation Entebbe, also known as the Entebbe Raid or Operation Thunderbolt, was a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976.
When they do demonstrations like that, that "Explosive" is just the detonation charge. Not the actual explosive. I used to put together mock grenades, which is just a grenade body and the detonator and mock explosives in the Army for training. We'd do actual mockups toss in a "Noise maker"/detonator instead of the actual charge. If that "bomb" went off, it would have just sounded like a very very low caliber pistol.

Those French special forces were obviously slick at their jobs and did a fantastic job, but I have to say, but the Brits and the American special forces LOOK tougher in their kit. ;-)
You can't compare a kit from the 90's with a modern kit, you don't have a "tougher looking kit" because NATO have standards, that's full cringe to think the look of a soldier is a important thing when practicality is the most important thing.

The movie "The Assault" depicts the whole event really good also using real footage. Btw one operator got hit 8 times and still survived.
