- The credit system in the US is new to Caribbeans and when we come here sometimes we mess up or take some time to adjust. Here are some of the steps I took to understand utilize the credit system.

Pay as you go will not help your credit credit cards have what is called statement closeting date so you essentially want to pay down your debt on or before your statement date is closed this will help with your credit utilization & show your creditors your good with managing debt.

YES! Having your money spread out is KEY! PLEASE open more than one bank account; and banks also have account sign up bonuses. Get yourself ready to invest too, it can all be done, just need to research as much as you can. Ask questions when you can. He's definitely helping the many that come here and don't know where to begin.
Youth, youth youthhhh. Yes iyah. Here is a topic. Talk to the type of people you want to associate yourself with. The type of people you want to hang around. To send time with, and where to meet these people. When you are new to the US and want to learn how to make it. When I say "make it". I don't necessarily mean rich, but how to be comfortable with your finances. Big up u self.
Another thing I learned as well the Mobile companies AT&T etc they don't help to bill credit cause it's not on ur report but if u missed a past due payment it get reported to credit agencies.....

Bro this is a gem, on god wish I was this informed in 2015 when I got over here, cause mi a build back mine now and I’m at 598, trans&Equifax and boii this shit is all common sense weh mi neva did a use ✌🏾
Dale you’re the man for the job I wish we had someone on even radio or tv to put us on track when I came here in 92 . Because these ppl over here doesn’t tell you anything about anything. You’re actually on your own along with family . And they too don’t know jack much either. So yes masa teach my first credit card was $1000 and I blew it up buying expensive uniforms for my kids . I will never forget. But then I get sensible and learn from my mistakes.

Very relevant information, some ppl don’t know some of these tips and tricks and think you have to do it the hard way like them. Btw they are two types of Macy’s credit card, IF you’re credit is good enough you can get one that’s a AMEX card as well and can be used anywhere. Buying furniture on credit can be great because most times is 12months interest free too. I was also prepared to buy my card cash and one salesman advised me not to, he said use other ppl money like rich ppl do, plus I’ll get a more reliable car and use my money to invest somewhere else.
Everything this man said I went thru, real advice. The best credit card anyone can try get is the discover; they have the lowest interest and always give a high limit

Some very good advice in this bro. My advice would be if you can go on the lease with a family member who is renting for at least a year do so. After getting a secured credit card it will become unsecured after a year or so which usually comes with a credit line increase. Definitely avoid department credit cards unless it is a store or group of stores that you are guaranteed to visit often.

Crucial advice, big up for this bro.. Just want to add also it is possible to start building a credit history without a SSN though the use of something called a tax ID you will not have access to your credit history until u are in possession of a SSN, however it's a great way to start, it is something that I personally did and can speak on.. But u must be responsible, just some additional knowledge.

This is my second year on work and travel and I got a credit card. I’m using it and repaying. It’s hard because without credit history nobody wants to give you one. The bank you get paid through is your best bet. You may even get pre approved based on how much money is coming in.

Dale you should also educate people how not to miss any credit card payment as some ppl cannot pay off their credit card in one shot, some ppl can only make minimum payment. What they can do is set up online access to their credit card and attached their checking account to the credit so that automatic minimum monthly payment comes out of your checking account that way you will not miss any payment. If you find yourself with extra money you can always logged in and make extra payments or additional payments. But it’s good to set it up so automatic payment comes out, incase you forgot. Make sure you have money in your checking so you don’t default on payment.
I wish all you're talking about and all I know NOW I knew when I first came to canada but you have to live to learn. Conversation like this is what should be having in schools and at home because alot of us have no financial literacy and because of that we have generational debt. I promise myself when I have kids the first thing I'm gonna do I get my child/ren a proper life insurance then register educational saving plan and a registered retirement saving plan I efforts to stop generational debt and alot ensuring myself and kids stay educated and inform when it come to finances

You can also do secured credit card where you give BOA 300 and they put it on a credit card for you. You can use that 300 and pay it back as you would for a regular credit card and build your credit history from there
