    I appreciate the clear, straightforward review - coupled with professional non-shaky camera work. Seems like a great starter bike, but I really do wish that the headlight array was larger to make the bike more visible in daytime traffic. The headlight design itself is cool, but just too small. Otherwise, I consider it to be a very sharp looking bike, especially in all black. This one is on my list.

  • @robertstimmel1100

      Nope. You're not alone. The headlight and front fork is kinda small for it's body. Unlike cb300r it looks more masculine than this mt03.

    Couple of tweaks to the intake and exhaust and power commander and this will change it completely, maybe go nuts with a cam job and over bore. These new small cc bikes are a blast to ride wide open. After 36 years in the saddle I find these to be a lot of fun and major improvements over the years just make that all the more enjoyable

    • @tracybuckalew2482
      @tracybuckalew2482 2 роки тому +3

      I Started with the Honda cb300r and just switched over to the yamaha mt03. I am glad I did, more power smooth throttle, and just a much better feel. Don't get me wrong I loved the cb300r, but I am loving the mt03 even more. Labeling these bikes as beginning bikes is understandable, however I feel like you could really get in trouble on the mto3 if you are not careful. Also I have heard numerous reports that the ktm 390 is not reliable. A few reviews have said they have issues. But you have the 200 so you would know more about it's reliability than me.

  • @Smaug1
    @Smaug1 4 роки тому +4

    All these Sallies should get off of John's case. He's maintaining 6' distance. It's more risky going grocery shopping. Why SHOULDN'T he ride and review motorcycles? Besides, entertainment is a critical industry, when the rest of us are at home, right?
    I'm glad we're finally seeing some *realistic* smallbore bikes. 250s don't cut it unless they're high strung. 300-400cc is the right range for a beginner bike in the USA; we have to be able to maintain 75 mph without being right at redline. I wouldn't look down on old brakes, but would adjustable levers really break the bank?
    I would take this over a 390 thumper Duke. Would be a tough call between this and the Versys 300, with its plush suspension and a bit more wind protection...

    A great video of a good looking Yamaha that would fit most all riders, myself included. Love the straight forward review, with some humour about your age. ^^
    Been a fan of Motorcyclist magazine since ‘86-ish and always remembered your reviews, articles and stories Mr Burns. ^^ I think the funniest thing I ever seen you involved in was when you did the drunk riding experiment, amd during the story, you signed your name as “Burnt”… 😂😜
    Upon seeing the video, I was like… Hey I remember Burns… let’s see what he’s doing… ^^

    Nice review, thank you. One thing I'd like future videos to feature is the sound of the exhaust high in the rev range. I know the R3 sounds good up there, so it's likely this is the same, but it would be good to cover. I could hear what it sounds like low in the rev range, which is really useful, because that's a feature I like for riding in town. I think you have the music and sound levels just right in this video, nice production.

    Why is Yamaha so stubborn to not up the displacement on it? Idk about other markets but in US market your getting ripped off if you buy this new. Just save that extra $400 for a Kawasaki tbh. Only thing that will be up to you is looks

    They don't just crawl on your bikes at night... Racoons are experts at jimmying ignition locks and hotwiring a bike... Ever think you should have more gas in the tank than actually you do? Racoons. Every think your oil change intervals are showing up too soon? Racoons. Ever get a photo-radar ticket in the mail that's logged at a time when you were home asleep, and the photo shows a small, 4-legged, furry creature flying down the road, with a huge grin, and tongue flapping in the wind like Old Glory on the 4th of July in a tornado? Racoons. Think about... It all comes back to racoons.
    And, nice bike & review! But those are the faults of Yamaha and John.

    This 'pandemic' is greatly overblown! Don't edit out anything. It was appropriate for the day, and time will tell if this pandemic pans out the way the media is suggesting!

    Both the R3 and this became mega obsolete and irrelevant the second Kawasaki's 400s came out, and a simple facelift is a laughable attempt by Yamaha to remedy that. Makes absolutely no sense to buy this thing as long as the z400 exists and the 400 dollar price difference is nothing. Yamaha needs to do much better; come up with a 48 bhp bike with better components (I used to have an R3 and the brakes, suspension, and stock tires were so bad that it was just plain unsafe) then we'll talk.

      Your R3 was busted. I had the R3 and the brakes and suspension was great. The once you swap from the stock tires it’s amazing! I have a bigger bike now but I still miss my R3.

      Some people just want a 320 and don't want or need the extra juice of a bigger bike, even a 400cc. Different strokes, etc.
