Thank you for the tip at the beginning!! Made it so much easier getting the new actuator set and back in. Definitely was not fun trying to work in that tight space, but got it done in about 40 minutes.
Thanks this was helpful combined with the comment to set it to the forward in your face setting because that's the far end of the gears to adjust it to. Also note the motor turns slow so make sure to give it enough time to move when you start the truck to get the actuator to align to that position. I used a Dewalt right angle with and screwdriver artached instead of a drill to remove it. Then used a small socket bit to just get it started by hand. The top one was a pain. Took me about 15 minutes total
Super helpful video, thank you buddy! I was able to knock it out in 30 minutes. The screws were definitely the most time consuming while being mindful not to drop them. Appreciate you posting and making it so easy.
thank you so much! After much fretting and praying, I looked again for info about this actuator, and found yours - "What they don't tell you..." was so helpful! Manually set the wheel to defrost, with the switch in defrost, and the actuator lined up perfectly and works great! You're the best~ (well, you and God...) Thanks!!
great video. thanks for the tips on setting the orientation of the gears. Hardest thing is access to the part. You are avoiding a 1K repair bill...so go and pop a few bucks for the right tools. Flex cord for power screwdriver is recommended - you be glad you have it. And he is right about not losing the screws. Use a magnetic bit if possible. .They are not a common part at the hardware or auto parts store. I lost one and ended up forcing a Philips head screw as replacement. Otherwise all went well. This fixed the vent selections. Tip: if you are lucky enough to have the adjustable brake and gas pedal settings, push them as low to the floor as possible to gain extra room for access.
Great How-to video. I would add that if you are a big guy like me, 6’2” 300, it is easier to just pull out the front seat to do this install. Once I did that, the job took less than 30 minutes. I spent 45 minutes trying to contort myself to fit with the seat in. Watch a video on seat removal since they have airbags in them.
I disassembled the actuator, just half a dozen clips, and removed the grease from the contacts and circuit board. There was a bunch of grease on the board and contacts. Put the excess grease on the gears and snaped it back together. Works until I get the new one.
I had a dorman but it is now failing a year and a half later. Gonna have to replace it with a OEM like I did with my passenger side. Gonna use your tip in the beginning. That was my biggest challenge the first time I had to do it. Also I only left 1 screw back in each actuator on the driver and passenger side
My mode door actuator failed on my 2017 f150. the actuator that controls which vent the air comes out went bad. I ordered a new actuator from rock auto and it Was twenty dollars. So I was able to fix mine and using the technique that this gentleman Explained. first I removed the old actuator. Then I set the mode door mechanism by turning the gears so that all the air is coming out of the vent into your face. That is the extreme limit on one side of the mechanism limits. One trick , I learned from the f150 forum and thank you , sir whoever gave this tip...use dental floss on the two screws So you do not lose them. Next, take your new actuator and plug it into the truck. And start the truck. The actuator will set itself to the correct spot if you set the control button for face. Finally shut the truck off unplug the actuator. Install the actuator with the 2 screws.Plug it in and you should be all Set. This actuator is above the gas pedal and is fairly accessible. Two T20 screws. Fixed mine, now i can change that sucker in 10 minutes. Thanks, Curtis
Thanks for the video. Would it be easier to remove the panel under the steering wheel first? It appears to just pop off with a hinged bottom with two 10 screws.
🤣 worked for a day. My 1999 F-150 with 400k has less problems then my 2016. Thanks again for your time putting video together. I’m confident I’ll be saving some money….. much appreciation!!✌️
Just finished replacing actuator. If folks are having a hard time with proper vent control, like I was, there’s a reset sequence with pulling pulling fuse # 13. I found it on a f-150 forum. Unplug actuator. Start truck, let run for minute. Shut off truck. Take out #13 fuse(7.5amp). Start truck with fuse out for a minute. Truck off. Replace fuse and actuator plug. Good to go! ✌️
Lucky me, had both actuators go out. Just did the blender door actuator which controls your temperature and is located in the bottom passenger side corner. It was a nightmare to get back in since I couldn't see anything. Had to set the blender door somewhere in the middle to finally get it to align. I recommend getting a mini rachet set before attempting. Got one on Amz for $15. Dealer wanted $600 to change out this actuator and $1000 for the blender door one! Will have saved myself over $1500 after I'm done.
I have 2016 f150 lariat with dual climate control..my issue is when I put the heat on the passenger side stays on ac ..so it's cold af on the passenger side and hot on the driver side
I don't understand the front part of your video. Did you manually crank the gear under the dash to a setting (just feet for instance), and then press the corresponding button on the dash with the actuator plugged in but not installed, and then install it?
Plug in the Actuator and press Feet, then spin the gears manually till the slot lines up and it will be on feet. Otherwise you trying to know where the correct setting is is hard, just get the Actuator set up so it's where it needs to be with the car, then install.
Unfortunately it didn't work. I replaced with Murray brand actuator. I did connect harness first then changed from exterior to recirculate before installing actuator. It actually wouldn't fit correctly the way shaft was positioned from factory. After messing with recirculation button it then was able to be installed. There isn't a way to install actuator incorrectly. It would break the door shaft if attempted I imagine. I know it is correct. I noticed when AC is turned off the door changes to recirculation position and blocks outside air. When AC is turned back on it goes to outside air and doesn't change when AC is on. It's very difficult to find info about the AC theory of operation or factory repair manual online. I did try removing the fuse 12 to calibrate but didn't help. I ordered a Motorcraft actuator and will be here in a few days. Lucky me, I only installed 1 screw to hold in place. All help is welcome. Cheers!
I lined mine up with feet then got it on feet. Feet worked. Feet/face worked. Face defrost keeps going back to feet? I’m having a hard time getting defrost to work properly
Damn i tried it yesterday its just a pain in the but i may have to rethink of how to do that. Were do you live i pay u 200 to put it into mine 🙂 Good video tho i am sure it helps a lot of people a lot.
I actually don't change my settings much...we will see!!! It's already been 11 months since the video...so I think that is just bashing Dorman to bash them.
Thank you for the tip at the beginning!! Made it so much easier getting the new actuator set and back in. Definitely was not fun trying to work in that tight space, but got it done in about 40 minutes.
Great to hear!

Thank you so much. No other video described how to synch the buttons. Your method worked perfect! Wish i saw your video first!
Great to hear!

Great video, saved me time and money. Thanks for sharing with us all!
Great to hear!
Hi great tip what is the size of the tool you used to replace the part?
Thank you very much was having problems used your solution and it works perfectly. Thank you again.
Great to hear!
Great video. Followed directions exactly and all venting works like new. Is a bugger to access. Also appreciated how to position yourself. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that the video helped you fix the venting. Your support means a lot to me!

Dorman parts are kind of a crapshoot, they seem to work great sometimes and fail others.
I think I’ll try using my cordless ratchet. Thanks for the great Video!

BTW, i used the Ford part from Rock auto.
I also changed the actuator above the passenger,s left foot. Pretty easy, again ford part, $20, rock auto.
Thank you for your service! This video helped me out so much!!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the video. Would it be easier to remove the panel under the steering wheel first? It appears to just pop off with a hinged bottom with two 10 screws.
Not sure, but if that helps you I say go for it
Thank you that honestly helps so much!
Awesome video, thanks. I banged on actuator with screwdriver and she’s working fine.😮
Excellent!

Dude, thank you so much. This video is awesome.
Dude, I'm just here trying to make UA-cam great again!
Thanks for this video! Worked great easy to do.
You're welcome!
Thank you for the video, very helpful

Yeah that one doesn't look fun to do, cut off the vent I've seen. What a pain!
@jimn26 is your truck a single or dual zone climate control?
@@tchughes81 single
Thank you
You're welcome
I have 2016 f150 lariat with dual climate control..my issue is when I put the heat on the passenger side stays on ac ..so it's cold af on the passenger side and hot on the driver side

Do you know how to perform climate control reset? I just changed recirculation actuator in 2016 f150. Without removing the dash.
I assume it's the same method. Hook up, make a selection and then install to match where the shaft position is.
Unfortunately it didn't work. I replaced with Murray brand actuator. I did connect harness first then changed from exterior to recirculate before installing actuator. So you want to set your gears for a specific setting, then actuate the switch to match that setting, then install? Just making sure I am clear on that
No pick a setting on the dash, then you will need to turn the gears to match the actuator.
It’s still blowing on my feet for some reason, but at least the dash is working now.
I lined mine up with feet then got it on feet. Feet worked. Feet/face worked. Face defrost keeps going back to feet? I’m having a hard time getting defrost to work properly
Try lining up with defrost and see
About to make it a ten minute job😏😆
Damn i tried it yesterday its just a pain in the but i may have to rethink of how to do that. Were do you live i pay u 200 to put it into mine 🙂 Good video tho i am sure it helps a lot of people a lot.
Monument, Colorado
That is what my plan was. However , when i selected a position it just kept turning even after i turned off the heater...
hmmmm not sure what to tell you. Maybe a bad new unit?
Dorman??? get ready to do next year
I actually don't change my settings much...we will see!!! It's already been 11 months since the video...so I think that is just bashing Dorman to bash them.
That's using your noodle there
