3:51 The confirmed ( according to my understanding ) dialogue in this scene between R2 and 3PO is actually really sad. R2 apparently tells 3PO that Anakin “Doesn’t really talk to me anymore.”, and that “I don’t know what’s going on with him.” I think it’s pretty depressing that Anakin stopped treating R2 like his best buddy around this point, adds to his fall even more for me.

Another nice thing about the way that happens is that it allows C3P0 to fulfill the purpose kid anakin made him for to help make the life of his loved ones easier, granted Padme could buy an army of protocol droids, but it's a nice gesture, particularly as R2 is just way more suited for the action then c3p0 is, so it's fitting when serving in the military he gets to be with him

"1. How good the lightsaber fights are"
Easiest way to cause massive arguments here. Surprisingly lightsaber fight scenes can be an EXTREMELY divisive topic, because different people use different metrics. Someone who likes tense scenes with heavy emotional impact is going to prefer the OT, someone who prefers rapid-fire choreography meant to show the Jedi at their peak would prefer the prequels, and some neckbeard who thinks they want realistic swordfights but actually has no fucking clue about swordfighting and thus thinks it's just two people bashing at each other with sharpened baseball bats because "lOl TeChNiQuE iS jUsT fOr ShOw" is going to prefer the sequels. And NO ONE is going to be willing to back down once these preferences clash, because (with the exception of the neckbeard) they actually have valid reasons for their preferences.
I personally like Episode 3 in regards to its lightsaber duels, particularly Anakin vs Obi-Wan. Yes, despite the "Jedi Rave" clip, and that's actually the only blemish on an otherwise spectacular swordfight sequence. Even with all its spins, every move in that fight has a purpose... except for the "Jedi Rave", of course. It can be difficult to pick out what that purpose is without doing a frame-by-frame analysis, but it's there.

Nah I liked that he got his memories back but that we also saw how truly committed 3PO is to the cause and the fight. In fact it’s the only time 3PO ever seemed to care and wasn’t just complaining. Yeh it was slightly cheapened cos he got his memories back but the fact that he believed he was gonna lose all his memories and still went through with it still remains powerful, imo.

As bad as takeout deaths are, c3p0 dying in a movie as bad as Skywalker would be a crying shame, and since there is a decent chance that it would be the last live action c3p0 with the same actor, (old) it would be sad to leave have him gone not to mention it would feel very cold to have him not have a backup, it's not difficult to get a hard drive

On the topic of Luke and C3PO being brothers: consider the Darksaber.
-Pre Vizla starts as the rightful owner.
-Maul defeats Pre Vizla in single combat, after issuing a direct challenge. He is now the owner of the Darksaber
-Later in that very same episode, Maul encounters and is handily defeated by Palpatine, making Palpatine the rightful owner.
-Palpatine is killed by Vader on the Death Star, making Vader briefly the rightful owner before he passes away
-It can be argued that the Darksaber should then be passed to his heir, but Luke and Leia eventually both die, leaving one more descendant
-C3PO has a rightful claim to the Darksaber and the Throne of Mandalore.
-You can also say that Palpatine wouldn't be able to claim it, because he didn't actually kill Maul, but in that case it then goes to Obi Wan when he kills Maul in their final duel on Tatooine, and then still ends up going to Vader when he kills Obi Wan on the Death Star
-"Ummm, achktually, it doesn't follow elder wand rules that's not how it works" shut the hell up, I'm having fun.

Depends on what your head canon is on the balance between programming and actual sentience in droids in Star Wars. Like, 3po is programmed to essentially be a butler that serves food and translates alien languages. Is he programmed to also see his masters as friends regardless of how they treat him, or is that his own emergent personality? Maybe a lore book goes into exactly how sapient droids are, but the movies certainly don't.

So glad to hear someone appreciating the storyteller 3P0 scene in VI as well. It gives all of the great feelings that a well-executed recap episode does in a tv show.
    - the audience is reminded of big moments and gets to reflect on them and the author gets a rare chance to tell the audience outright “this is important” without it coming across as too obvious
    - the audience gets to see the in-universe reactions to those moments from people who weren’t there, allowing for a better sense of scope and scale of the plot’s events
    - the main characters get more time to react to those moments again, and we get a better idea of how it made them feel and if they have undergone any changes since then

There's a comic that explains how c-3po gets the red arm. It's actually the only bit of media that takes place in the first order era of star wars that I like. Spoilers in case anyone want to read it but
It follows a group of droids stranded on a hostile planet after a recent skirmish between the first order and resistance. There are droids from both sides but they decide its best to team up to make it of the planet. The planet is dangerous though and one by one the droids get picked off until only two remain. C-3po and first order droid 0-mr1, but not without injury as 3po is already missing his arm at this point. It starts to pour corrosive rain so they find shelter, where they have a deep conversation about the nature of droid existence, whether or not they have free will, and if a droid gets their memory gets wiped could they even be considered the same individual. Realizing one of them needs to risk the corrosive rain to get a nearby signal tower activated, omri heads out. His silver paint starts melting away revealing the red primer underneath, which he doesn't remember, and ponders about when it was applied. He gets the signal up to the resistance in order to save 3po. He's damaged beyond function by the rain, but 3po is able to salvage his arm to honor his now fallen, yet new found friend.

I think that Threepio was supposed to represent the average core world galactic denizen's view on the situation in Episode 3. He was blissfully unaware of what was going on despite very much being entangled in everything, and Threepio doesn't even realise fully the illegality of what he is doing until Episode 4, he actually thought he was just a diplomatic translator.

9: Force Awakens (Here’s just there, more prominent in the poster than the film itself lol)
8: The Last Jedi (He’s in it for quite a while, but he didn’t do much despite his screentime)
7: Revenge of the Sith (He’s there, says a few lines, and he’s done. Some lines and stuff to do, but not too much)
6: Phantom Menace (He’s being created for most of the film. Once again, not doing much)
5: Rise of Skywalker (Has an arc and it’s not bad. It’s actually fairly interesting)
4: Attack of the Clones (He does some fun stuff and goes on fun adventures with R2)
3: A New Hope (A nice, iconic little introduction to one of the best characters!)
2: Empire Strikes Back (One of his most classic adventures in the franchise)
1: Return of the Jedi (He’s one of the more important characters in this film imo)

I'd honestly love to see a conversation between C-3PO and Star Trek's Data talking about humans. Both are so polite and try to understand humans as best as they can.
And yes, C-3PO was a highlight of the Rise of Skywalker. That and finally seeing Poe, Rey and Fin work together.

There is a very clear in lore reason for 3PO to have a red arm in Force Awakens with a story behind it.
It definitely wasn't made so Disney could sell more action figures of him with a significant visual difference from his previous version.

Actually in the Revenge of the Sith novel there was an extra scene (set right after Anakins raid of the Jedi temple where he goes to talk to Padme). C-3PO has a conversation about the events going on with Artoo.

This might be nostalgia talking, but I found C-3PO funny in Attack of the Clones. The lines, "This is such a drag." As R2 is dragging his head. And, "I'm quite beside myself." When R2 got his head next to his body are just way too funny to me.

i remember watching a behind the scenes documentary on the rots dvd and hearing they had to manually remove unwanted reflections from 3p0's shiny suit, which took forever, so i wonder if he's not in that movie so much because of that time consuming process, or if they decided since he wasn't in it a lot it would be a good time to go full-shine, or if it's just a coincidence

3PO is my favorite SW character and has been ever since the OT were the only films in the franchise. In those films 3PO always played a significant part. When Ep 1 came out I was annoyed that his role as the main comic relief seemed to be stolen by Jar Jar. Then he got a bigger role in Ep 2, and I was like "Oh good, they realized that my main man deserves his csreen time". But then in Ep 3 his role wasn't much bigger than a cameo. It was especially weird to me since his companion R2 continued to play a notable role in all the prequells. Then a billion years later when Ep 7 came out and I saw that 3PO's role was once AGAIN relegated to a cameo it pissed me. Then it was the same in 8. I would have seriously though that my boy would never play a major role in a movie again, but then to my surprise in 9 he was all over the place. It's just about the only thing I truly love about that movie. My guess is that after having killed off so many classic characters they were like "geez, which characters from the Ot are even left?". Funny though hos in the sequels, even in part 9, R2 continued to be sidelined (but hey, at least he had a good time in the prequels. All in all I guess you could say that out of all the trilogies the prequels were the ones that was the least kind to 3PO and the sequels were the ones that was the least kind to R2).

I personally believe that George Lucas wrote R2 and 3PO as the narrators of his saga…if you watch the making of Ep. IV he talks about old samurai/Japanese movies where the audience would watch the story unfold through a couple of peasants. That was the inspiration behind these two characters-which adds lore and realism to the universe as this essentially makes one consider droids as second-class citizens, property of their “makers”. I, however, think that this worldbuilding idea is why R2 & 3PO are so beloved. They start out as mechanized servants (R2 was one of several droids on Queen Amidala’s royal cruiser; then later retained as her personal astromech when she became Senator-conversely 3PO was built by Anakin to assist his mother [themselves also slaves🤔]), and ultimately they become trusted and true family to their owners. I always think of them that way-members of a disregarded-often-mistreated sect of this massive society, who prove themselves invaluable, even outright the “secret weapon” that allows the outgunned rebel heroes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Palpatine clearly has no regard for droids (See Ep. III) and that overconfident underestimating of what he views as lesser beings provides the keys to dismantling the seemingly all-powerful regime of tyranny he worked for years to erect! I also LOOOVEE 3PO in AOTC…he cracks me up every time!

I love 3P0! He’s the character that I relate to and see myself in the most (I know that’s a bad thing lol). He’s just so funny and the pairing of this - whiny, cowardly, panicky, non stop chatterbox - with this sassy droid who speaks in beeps and bloops that mean nothing to us is just perfect. We have no idea what R2 is saying but through 3P0s outrage and comebacks we get to put the pieces together to fantastic effect.
Easily the best comic relief in the whole franchise comes from these two droids without any competition whatsoever.
