Fun fact: Yoda beating R2D2 with his stick in empires strikes back is canonically Yoda’s Final battle. And even after 900 years, Yoda is still victorious.
R2-D2 is peak character design. He doesn't even have a recognizable face nor does he talk in a way the audience can understand, but he manages to convey so much personality, character and attitude. Not bad for a beeping tripod soda can.
I think it’s a fair argument that R2 is one of if not the most famous of all fictional robots because of these attributes. I also think it’s a testament to how well he is personified that most people don’t blink an eye about referring to R2 as “he”, as opposed to how most modern Star Wars droids tend to be correctly referred to as “it”. At this point, calling R2 “it” feels wrong on so many levels, as if all the of the emotional and personal connections made with R2 didn’t happen.
At least it was until Disney decided that their marketable droid should get more attention than the one that’s been part of the saga from the beginning
That’s part of my in-universe explanation for why the sequels were so… strange, I guess? R2 didn’t really have a whole of involvement in the last 3 Skywalker saga movies, so he probably had a much harder time keeping up with what was going on and heard too many contradicting stories.
My headcanon is that the handmaiden disguised as the queen specifically sent Padme to clean R2 because it was funny. Like if you had the opportunity to ask the literal queen of a planet to scrub down a dirty droid and she had no real means of protesting without blowing her cover, would you not take that opportunity? I bet the handmaidens all immediately started laughing their asses off about it as soon as everyone else left the room.
This is a really fun way to think about it. But I'm pretty sure they went over it in one of the books, and it turned out that Padme accidentally cock-blocked Sabe from a girl that liked her when they switched places. AKA, this was actual revenge lolol.
I like to think that Padme requested to Sabe in private to have her specifically assign her to clean the droid as she believe it was the highest honor the droid could get after surviving the task that not only saved their lives, but also took what I only assume was R2’s only friends
Obi-Wan's "Oh I have a bad feeling about this!" during the opening of Revenge of the Sith easily wins for me though that may just be because it's Obi-Wan and because it's in Revenge of the Sith.
9:51 The Queen-to-Senator thing makes a lot of sense-the position of Queen was an elected one, and the Naboo traditionally elected prodigious young girls to the post. The Queen ruled her planet (democratically), but when the monarch reached her term limit, she would step down and usually took another position in the government. Padmé had a rare opportunity: the previous senator from Naboo (Palpatine) was elected to Chancellor, which meant her planet’s post was open. A Senator would represent her planet to the wider galactic community. Who better to represent a planet’s needs than its former ruler, especially someone who endured an illegal invasion AND united two separate species on her homeworld?
Similar paths can be seen here in the U.S. Former governors can become federal senators and then attempt to become president of the United States. If you want a real-life example of this, look up Huey Long.
R2 staying with the ship is actually one of my favorite Star Wars moments. Anakin tells R2 to stay with the ship and then he never comes back. R2 never sees his friend again. This ties perfectly into Empire Strikes Back when Luke tells R2 to stay with the ship and he’s like “Uh, no. That’s not happening again!” It’s so in character for him and sad at the same time to think that’s why he followed Luke. He wasn’t going to loose another master/friend again.
As bad as the Prequels could be with the call-forwards and future references and falling into that "everybody knew each other" trap, there were plenty of more subtle moments that aren't emphasized but absolutely work. This is one of them.
You forgot to mention, when the were filming empire, the guy who was inside our cute little trashcan almost died when they forgot to take him out of the suit and left him outside while they were filming the hoth scenes!
The Revenge of the Sith novelization has exactly what you want. C-3PO asks R2 what's going on right before the march on the temple and R2 says, "I don't know. Anakin doesn't talk to me anymore."
Listening to Schaff talk about Star Wars reminds me that there are people who still actually like Star Wars. No joke. These days people usually focus on the negatives or Disney or the sequels so much that I genuinely forgot what it's like to listen to someone who actually genuinely still enjoys Star Wars P.S. You can rank the Star Wars movies by how well the "I have a bad feeling about this" line is delivered/ used. That feels like the logical next step 👍
@@SpaceJawa Would Rise of Skywalker work better as a Looney Tunes movie than as a Star Wars movie? Chris aka 3C Films has said that the Looney Tunes are great at turning really stupid ideas into something awesome.
@@Richard-3874 If you've never heard of the webcomic "Darths & Droids", I recommend taking a look. It's been adapting all the Star Wars movies as if they didn't exist but were instead made up as an RPG campaign. Currently in the middle of Last Jedi. Does a really good job adapting the material into something that's actually enjoyable.
I think a “ranking Star Wars movies by their lightsaber usage” video would be interesting. Examining how they evolved through the films and which movie uses them best both practically and thematically.
I personally would put ep 5 or 6 as #1 just because of the luke and darth Vader fights, they’re great! Ep 8 would be last because the one actual lightsaber fight they do have is really not very good when you break it down, and I hate how they had Luke almost use his lightsaber to kill Ben in the flashback (ruining Luke’s character)
my headcannon for why R2 can't fly in the original trilogy is that rocket fuel is expensive and the rebels didn't have the funds to keep him stocked up
Padme going to clean R2 in TPM is actually a perfect encapsulation of her character; she didn't want to just give him a meaningless applause, she wanted to specifically clean the droid that saved her life and gave them a chance. She wants to be more involved in pretty much every way in TPM and its why she falls in love with Anakin in AoTC; she wanted to shed the pretensions of the throne for a more genuine relationship. It shows that she''s a caring and proactive person stuck in formalities. This also explains why she goes from Queen to senator; she believes she can make more of a difference in the senate than being a queen.
26:39 Knuckles in Sonic Adventure 2 fits this specific trope perfectly. He really just randomly pops out of a manhole halfway through the hero campaign and decides to join up with gang.
The hardest part of Schaff’s job isn’t making videos, it’s finding every single way he can rank the Star Wars movies without ranking the Star Wars movies

"Its so tragic to see their significant bond eroded to this point" Counterpoint, Yoda and R2 10000% remember each other, and theyre just being little shits to each other anyways.
15:58 there is actually a dialogue in the book version where C3PO asks R2 what is going on (with order 66) and R2 responds "I don't know, Anakin doesn't talk to me anymore"
I like to think the R2 and Yoda squabble was them recognizing each other and R2 trying to make Yoda break character and reveal himself. Like some guy who goes to a haunted house attraction and sees his friend playing a zombie.
I think R2 was soooo confused when he saw Yoda on Dagobah. Like " Dude WTF happened to you". This might be the reason why he said that he didn't know Yoda because Yoda was acting so wierdly.
It's super crazy to me that R2-D2 from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker that he has like 70 years of memories inside him. C-3PO had to have his memories erased, but R2 has retained EVERYTHING! He has seen so much. He needs a hug.
I feel like this may have been an easy way to explain why R2 didn’t go with Rey and the others in IX. If someone had just said “He just hasn’t been himself after he came back after Luke died”, it would have given him the perfect excuse to stay with Leia. Not only would R2’s heart not been in it without Luke, he would probably want to stay with Leia as a last connection to Luke. This makes it all the more sad when Leia dies.
De pequeño siempre pensé que se llama arturito pensaba q las letras y los números eran como su marca o como su nombre científico (como decirle equino a un caballo)
I read the novelization of The Phantom Menace for the 25th anniversary. (The novels tend to be based on an earlier version of the script and include scenes and dialog deleted from the movie). There was a scene in novel on Coruscant where R2 falls off the platform and rocket boosts his way back up, introducing the audience to his now ability rather than it randomly showing up in AotC. Also, that moment when you realize R2 didn't stay with the ship in Empire because the last time he stayed with the ship, Anakin didn't come back.
My favorite guest appearance of him is in The Muppet Show. I liked how he was the only one who actually wanted to do an act on the show. Him mocking the Swine Trek, calling it a pig sty was funny as was Dr. Strangepork playing with his buttons and getting shocked by him.
Fun fact the queen of Naboo is annelected position that a queen can only hold for 4 years at a time so Amidala going from Queen to Senator is more moving sideways instead of down. Gotta read the Queens Peril series
15:57 This actually happens in the novelization. While 3PO and R2 are talking and listening to Anakin lie to Padme on the veranda, R2 says “I don’t know. Anakin doesn’t talk to me anymore.”
Bro this is such cope lmao. Like this is a terrible attempt to head cannon our way out of this. Let’s be honest here, none of those other fuckers standing there ever did anything, and also, who the fuck is keeping track of which of the Queen’s handmaidens are getting sent on menial tasks and how often? Only the body guards would maybe even notice, and they’re in on the whole thing anyway. Also, to the other dude saying it “removes the queen from a potentially dangerous situation” literally how? I would want the queen to be in the throne room if there were an emergency, you know, where all the guards are? Also there’s literally no threat of an assassination or anything while they’re in hyper drive fleeing Naboo, what dangerous situation are they removing her from? In fact, why did they even keep up with the decoy shtick at that point and not just tell the Jedi at the very least who the real queen was? Seems like important information to have. How can the decoy even order the queen around anyway? Did Padme ask to go clean this dirty ass droid, or did Keira Knightly just take it upon herself to send Padme to do that? Let’s not trick ourselves into thinking any of this shit makes sense
@@batsmetal8106 The actual answer is that Padme wanted to be part of the action. Before the substitute decides anything, she always exchanges a look with the actual queen, and Padme makes clear that she wants to be the handmaiden in charge of accompanying the expedition on Tatooine. You can not like it because it's dumb, but we're talking about a 14 year old girl that had monarchy thrusted upon her. It's an elective democracy, but I bet the other candidates were equally young members of other noble families. So yeah, pretty obvious that she's famished for adventure and real life experiences.
@@TheDahaka1 this is definitely a way better explanation, and I think the only real problem with it is that it’s not fully established or explored in the actual movie. It’s an interesting concept for a character but the dialogue and execution of it is so clunky that Padme comes across more as a blank canvas. I guess this is partly the problem with the fact that it’s only revealed to us, the audience, way later into the movie that she was the queen all along, which raises multiple questions and doesn’t make sense in many places. There should have been a scene earlier in the movie where her secret is revealed in a small way to a character like Jar Jar or something or even a scene where she talks to the decoy, and they swear not to tell anyone and Padme would get a chance to tell them (and the audience) why she feels this way and why she wants to put herself at risk despite the fact that it’s really dangerous and stupid to do so during this situation. There might even be a good reason, like she feels uncertain about her capacity to lead due to her overprivelged background or something. That necessary character context would be way more important than the “twist” later on that she’s the queen and would even make that scene more powerful as a character moment. But that’s not the movie we got an even this explanation which feels the most likely is really at the end of the day just our way to retrospectively justify poor writing. Let me put it like this, in this particular situation, if there was no problem with how this plot thread was handled than no one would have a problem with it or even notice the oddities of it, but instead it stands out to us as an audience because something just feels off about it because the whole “decoy” plot is never really explained. Some choose to go with the movie and act like there must be a good reason because they want to be lenient towards it, others choose to see it as terrible because they lean against the film, the real problem is that we have to speculate in the first place because George Lucas doesn’t know how to build his characters properly
Fun fact: R2d2 restored c3po's memory in Episode IX,which implies that the pre revenge of the sith memory is restored (it was wiped at the end of the movie)
@@lexramstudios1386You should definitely check out Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. The show is basically what you just described but done in a humorous way that lightly makes fun of the prequel and original trilogies.
that would, to me, make both R2 and C-3PO's roles in TROS so much more impactful if it was outright stated in the movie. It actually turns C-3PO's cheap emotional "death" scene into a real emotional scene where C-3PO finally gets all of his memories back. It does raise the question of "well, why didn't R2 restore his memory earlier", but the movie does say that R2 units are unreliable with it so it could have maybe been a risk he wouldn't have been willing to take (as i guess you'd have to say R2 somehow merged his pre-ROTS and post-ROTS memories into one set), but now he's already lost his memory, there's no reason not to.
I always took the scene where Padme cleans Artoo in the Phatom Menace to be a subtle way of showing just how grateful that they were to the droid for saving their butts. She could have easily become King Louis XVI in that moment, and she's willing to, as a royal, do a degrading task out of gratitude. I think it was a nice touch in the film and shows a lot about Padme as a character.
I think the best R2 and C3PO moment has to be when C3PO sees R2 broken after the Vader fight and begs and pleads for them to fix him. Even saying that he'll give them some of his own wires. C3PO had been sassing R2 the entire time, but he loves his best friend so much!!!!
Luke's bond with R2 is even more special bc R2 belonged to his parents and it has the only record of his parents secret marriage, thus symbolizing what once was the love that birthed him and his sister.
@@mpar8107 He also saved padme, is the reason obi-wan and anakin were able to kill dooku, is the reason that Luke was born and he ended up saving the galaxy and if it wasn’t for R2 saving Luke as well he wouldn’t have been able to redeem Vader.
@@KirbyStarAnimation While I'm not going to argue against the overall point, if he doesn't save the ship, Padme dies. Anakin isn't found (or is he since there's a prophecy). Then how does Order 66? . I guess the Trade Federation would then just control Naboo? Would the Republic then respond if they found out the Queen was literally blasted from the sky/space? How would the Jedi Council respond knowing their two peace-representatives were also just blasted into smithereens ( that's a whole crazy 'what-if'). But yeah, when it comes to story moments, R2D2 saves a ton (trash compactor, cloud city in opening doors, etc.)
27:49 Lando’s men did in fact fix the hyperdrive. It was the *Imperials* who deactivated it. That’s what R2 found while he was working on the door in a preceding scene. (To quote Threepio: “We’re not interested in the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon!”)
9:52 Going from queen to senator is actually a major upgrade. As a queen, she just rules and affects the planet itself. As a senator, she represents the planet on the senate, influencing major choices in the galaxy.
9:04 I think it’s cool how Palps came from Naboo, one of the most peaceful planets in the galaxy. It’s like how Zaheer was the deadliest villain in Korra while being a perversion of Airbending, the most peaceful form of bending (and boy did Savage learn the hard way how much Palps can move like an Airbender).
I’m surprised Schaff didn’t mention the fact that R2 stayed with Luke even though he told him to stay with the ship in Empire because the last time his previous master, Anikin, told him to stay with the ship, he never came back.
A detail I saw pointed out was in Revenge of the Sith, the one time R2 was told to stay behind by Anakin, he never came back. So in the original trilogy, R2 always followed Luke even after being told to stay. And especially in Empire.
Y'know, I remember reading a Star Wars book (which I'm 100% sure is canon) where R2-D2 and R5-D4 have a conversation as they're being sold by Jawas. After hearing R2's desperation to get the plans to Kenobi, R5 sabotages his own motivator in order for our boy to take his spot. It was a very cute and honorable thing to see.
Fun fact, the real reason R2 couldn't fly in the original trilogy is because, as explained in a book that had some extra detail on him, which had these cardboard cutouts of R2 and an X wing, (It doesn't have a title, but look it up.) they explained that after the Clone Wars, they replaced the jet boosters with other useful abilities.
@@farawaygaming_ That or spacecraft got priority for fueling because the Rebellion didn't deem fueling droids' thrusters necessary for their use cases.
I hope Schaff knows about the canon comic where artoo single-handedly takes out like half the crew of a star destroyer just to save threepio while the narration reads the owners manual for an R2 unit to highlight just how special he is
What about a ranking based on each film’s most crazy addition to Star Wars lore? Not counting IV obviously, but stuff like midichlorians, lightspeed skipping, Force lightning, force life transfer, etc etc. You could even include stuff from the TV shows if you were so inclined, like the sheer existence of Grogu and Ahsoka, the World Between Worlds, the Nightsisters, and wayyy more

What i like about R2 fixing the hyperdrive is the fact that he's canonically the only character who would know how to do it. He's an Astromech Droid, meaning he was literally designed and programmed with the knowledge and ability to fix ships like the Falcon.
I feel like R2 shoulda just been in place of BB-8 in TFA. Woulda been nice that he would travel with Poe to find Luke because he misses his friend so much. And when R2 leaves to go with Rey at the end of TFA, Poe gets a replacement droid in TLJ with BB-8. That would have been a nice introduction

Rey vs Kylo is great with them fighting in different locations, and Kylo vs the knights of Ren is also a great moment. 6. Episode 2. The fight between Yoda and Dooku is great, but the part between Anakin and Dooku is abysmal. You only see them swinging lightsabers in the dark with light flashing across their faces and barely even see their lightsabers connect. 7. Episode 7. Finn vs Kylo is pretty good and watching Kylo chase Rey is pretty good too. 8. Episode 6. The Vader Luke fight is mostly Luke hiding which is not as suspenseful as episode 5. 9. Episode 4. Obi Wan and Vader just kinda poke at each other and that's it.

@@nizam5568 I mean given how big galaxies are, its reasonable to equate a planet to a city on earth for example. I would think a space governor would govern certain prefectures of the galaxy
I also think they mention in Episode II that Padme was term-limited as queen. And since the Queen at her funeral is a girl, and Padme left office as a teen, maybe Naboo doesn’t allow adults to be Queen so they don’t get too powerful.
@@JohnSmith-dh8zxwhich calls into question how poorly run Naboo is and how much of a puppet state it really is. Imagine if some comparatively irrelevant country like Canada decided to place a teenage girl as their all powerful leader and representative on the world stage. No wonder the trade federation considered them to be easy pickings…
Regarding Padme going from Queen to senator, i am pretty sure it is explained well in Attack of the Clones: The Naboo monarchy kind of works like a president, with a new queen being choosen every few years. Staying in power longer would have been unconstitutional. But the people of Naboo liked her enough to elect her senator after her term as Queen had ended. While such a system is weird, it is not completely unthinkable. The Malaysian monarchy elects a new king every 5 years (granted only from a limited pool of regional heriditary rulers). It even "ryhms" like George always likes to do: it was said the people wanted to change the constitution to keep Padme queen. But they didn't do it, showing her selflessnes. Meanwhile Palpatine (the previous Naboo senator) abuses every situation to gain more and more power (= selfish).
To add to that, Padme being royalty in some way makes her daughter being a future princess feel way more right, as does it make the royalty of naboo appear smarter by sticking to there decoys in all situations where there's any chance the real queen may be in danger, and it makes Quigon appear more clever when he reveals he's well aware of who Padme is, as for why send padme to clean r2d2, cleaning r2 is hardly hard work, it's giving him a light scrub, padme chooses to walk through a desert rather then chill with the ship, there's no way she'd have an issue doing that to maintain her cover
Another good example of the "randomly along for the ride" trope is Merry and Pippin in Lord of the Rings. Just out there stealing veggies and bumping into their cousin and his gardener. Then being away from home for a year and coming back with PTSD
I completely forgot that Vader was the one to shoot R2 in New Hope. What a wild twist when you remember just how much Anakin and R2 went through together. Makes you wonder if Vader knew that was R2 and did it on purpose.
"It's so ultra specific I can't think of another example" The same thing literally happened to C3PO at that start of the same movie. And it's hilarious.
I like how in episode three, R2 has to speak to anakin through a little transmitter he holds in his hand, instead of just doing it through an internal device cause he’s a robot, that’s cute man 😭
There's a cut segment from Episode IV that reveals that the whole movie is a story being told to you by a force goblin guy based on the testimony of R2-D2, the main character of the story. I like to think that this is still canon, and R2 is not a very reliable narrator. So like he'll tell you "I'm the most useful droid there is, everyone else died and I fixed the queen's ship all on my own and then she thanked me personally and everyone clapped" and then he wasn't there for 99% of the sequel trilogy so it's all just a garbled version of events Rey told him about years later, which is why so little in those movies makes sense.
Other Rankings that could be fun -How many good memes it produced -Their use of cool variation of sets (like planets and ships and stuff) -Best War tactics (like ones actually having smart plans similar to real life battles vs ones that just throw bullshit at the wall) -The best use of background characters.

The ending of Empire feels like what they wanted to achieve in TLJ, just executed way better. Han is kidnapped, Luke is incapacitated, 3PO is in pieces, Chewie is distraught, and Leia is fending off the stormtroopers as they reach a dead end. The only reason I can think of for R2 to fly with Poe in TRoS is that they wanted both him and BB-8 to participate in the final battle, and BB-8 is better suited to rolling atop a Star Destroyer than R2 (being a ball instead of rolling on wheels and liable to fall over).
25:25 Fun fact: Because Dooku deleted Dagobah from the Jedi records there wouldn’t have been any navigational information on how to travel there. So the only reason Luke made it to Dagobah was because R2-D2 had been there before when he came with Yoda. If Luke was accompanied by any other droid he may not have been able to make it to Dagobah at all.

Fun fact: in the Phantom Menace, R2 was a big pain in the ass to film. His model was always tripping over everything, his gears kept getting jammed in the sands of the desert where they filmed for Tatooine, and he could barely go up the most minute elevations without tumbling backward. They had to make a bunch of different r2 models to put in for a shot so he’d run smoothly. My theory is, we don’t see him get up on the ramp because they did not feel like going through the trouble of making a whole nother R2 model just for that precise situation.
That and also ILM didn't want to fuck with the pneumatic middle leg extending one any more than they already did. Adam Savage had a real painful time rewiring the entire thing to be Imperial instead of metric.

R2 is really key to Star Wars. George has stated that Star Wars is a recap of the Galaxy from R2, which really makes me love this little droid more.
At least it was until Disney decided that their marketable droid should get more attention than the one that’s been part of the saga from the beginning
If i had the chance i would kick bb8 like a soccer ball @gplgs4640
That’s part of my in-universe explanation for why the sequels were so… strange, I guess? R2 didn’t really have a whole of involvement in the last 3 Skywalker saga movies, so he probably had a much harder time keeping up with what was going on and heard too many contradicting stories.
Holy shiii this headcanon bangs@@alpacawizardman6778
i really like this idea, but how exactly would he be able to recap the prequels after getting his memory wiped at the end of rots?
Can't wait for "Ranking the Star Wars Movies by their 'I have a bad feeling about this' usage"
Nah! We can easily guess where he would place the movies
Obi-Wan's "Oh I have a bad feeling about this!" during the opening of Revenge of the Sith easily wins for me though that may just be because it's Obi-Wan and because it's in Revenge of the Sith.
That'll be a banger
Last Jedi would be last in that regard, since it’s not even actually spoken. It’s implied to be “said” by BB-8, who doesn’t speak English lol

I think R2 was soooo confused when he saw Yoda on Dagobah. Like " Dude WTF happened to you". This might be the reason why he said that he didn't know Yoda because Yoda was acting so wierdly.
For a droid that can retain their memories no matter how long, the concept of senility must be alien for him.

15:57 This actually happens in the novelization. While 3PO and R2 are talking and listening to Anakin lie to Padme on the veranda, R2 says “I don’t know. Anakin doesn’t talk to me anymore.”
If the Queen of Naboo never sent one specific handmaiden to do any tasks, it'd look real suspicious. So Padme's on droid bath duty.
Plus it removes the real queen from the equation in case of an emergency potentially allowing her to survive
Also, maybe Padme wanted to show her appreciation to R2 personally.
Schaff being a fellow R2 enjoyer brings me a catharsis I didn’t even know I needed. Put this lil lad in more of the big vids!!

that would, to me, make both R2 and C-3PO's roles in TROS so much more impactful if it was outright stated in the movie.

Fun fact: In Mexico, R2D2 is known as “Arturito” because of how it sounds in Spanish. Little Arthur. Sounds even more endearing
Regarding Padme going from Queen to senator, i am pretty sure it is explained well in Attack of the Clones:
The Naboo monarchy kind of works like a president, with a new queen being choosen every few years.
R2 truly is one of the most important characters in Star Wars. His presence my not always be there, but when he is, you truly do feel it.
Ranking the Star Wars movies by their “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” usage
Another good example of the "randomly along for the ride" trope is Merry and Pippin in Lord of the Rings. Just out there stealing veggies and bumping into their cousin and his gardener. Then being away from home for a year and coming back with PTSD
27:48 I believe there was a line where Vader asks an officer if they deactivated the Falcon's hyperdrive
I completely forgot that Vader was the one to shoot R2 in New Hope. What a wild twist when you remember just how much Anakin and R2 went through together. Makes you wonder if Vader knew that was R2 and did it on purpose.
"It's so ultra specific I can't think of another example"
The same thing literally happened to C3PO at that start of the same movie.
Other Rankings that could be fun
-How many good memes it produced
-Their use of cool variation of sets (like planets and ships and stuff)
-Best War tactics (like ones actually having smart plans similar to real life battles vs ones that just throw bullshit at the wall)
-The best use of background characters.
Gotta love how we are still discovering terrible things in the Rise of Skywalker years later
Would Rise of Skywalker work better as a Looney Tunes movie than as a Star Wars movie?
Chris aka 3C Films has said that the Looney Tunes are great at turning really stupid ideas into something awesome.
@@Richard-3874I mean the Lego game “skywalker saga” made the sequel sections a LOT more bearable, so maybe?
@@captainpep3 I haven’t played the Lego games
I'm waiting for a full "Why The Rise of Skywalker is a cinematic disaster" video in the same vein as Shark Tale and Shrek the Third
My dad used to have this R2D2 robot toy, we could ask it questions and it would respond with beeps (it had a manual saying what each beep-sentence meant).
It never really worked properly when I saw it, but it was still a nice decoration and I believe it could still move around... (I haven't seen it in years)
Schaff tearing Rise of Skywalker apart never gets old 😂😂😂😂
It was so kind of Disney to give film critics such an evergreen punching bag

12:25 my headcanon was after the droid arc in the clone wars when they repair him the are unable to salvage the boosters after the upgraded version got destroyed
The ending of Empire feels like what they wanted to achieve in TLJ, just executed way better.
Han is kidnapped, Luke is incapacitated, 3PO is in pieces, Chewie is distraught, and Leia is fending off the stormtroopers as they reach a dead end. It really feels like the end, the fires of rebellion all but completely stamped out.
But then R2 gets the door open, the music swells, and they escape. R2 being this stalwart, constantly moving positive force is what saves the Galaxy. Love this movie.
how can i possibly enjoy any other tier list out there when Shcaff makes the best lists out there
26:39 I am big fan of that too Schaf, thats why I love Subspace Emissary the story is basiclly a bunch of that.
Schaff is the type of guy to give someone French fries after they ask for potato chips
25:40 R2’s memory is wiped at the end of Episode 3, so he likely doesn’t remember any events of the Clone Wars
12:12 HE FLIES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He flies now!
He flies now?
I love the trope of "character does something amazing for the gang just because they were passing by"
We have:
- Every single shonen and slice of life, especially Diamond is Unbreackable
- Wendy and Stanly from Gravity Falls
- Bobby and Luigi from Origami King
- Ralsei and Susie from Deltarune
- Nearly Headless Nicholas from Harry Potter
And many more I could think If I thinked for 30 more minutes
Yessss, I love it when Schaff does a Star Wras video
Glad you gave the last Jedi the credit it deserved when it comes to R2’s importance
The sequel video no one asked for, but we'll all still love
Fun fact R2D2 scenes with the elevator was one of my first memories ever I can still remember
Ep3 was on TV and I was like a toddler. My parents recorded the film but there wasn't enough space left so the scenes stop at R2 fixing the elevator for getting up.
So much detail I don't know why I am remember better that prequel moment than the time I learned numbers
Oddly creative out of the box lists are your thing, mate. I hope you enjoy making them because I enjoy hearing arguments over silly subjects. Wish you a peaceful kind week.
2:46 I think I found the best reaction image for the Sequel trilogy
Would Rise of Skywalker work better as a Looney Tunes movie than as a Star Wars movie?
Chris aka 3C Films has said that the Looney Tunes are great at turning really stupid ideas into something awesome.
The only reason I can think of for R2 to fly with Poe in TRoS is that they wanted both him and BB-8 to participate in the final battle, and BB-8 is better suited to rolling atop a Star Destroyer than R2 (being a ball instead of rolling on wheels and liable to fall over).
The most chad thing about R2 is that he knows literaly everything about Luke and Leia's parents yet doesn't beep out anything
22:31 ok time for big time rush videos next 🎉
R2 is the definition of Chaotic Good
25:25
Fun fact: Because Dooku deleted Dagobah from the Jedi records there wouldn’t have been any navigational information on how to travel there. So the only reason Luke made it to Dagobah was because R2-D2 had been there before when he came with Yoda. If Luke was accompanied by any other droid he may not have been able to make it to Dagobah at all.
30 minutes of Schaff talking about the goat of Star Wars droids
As someone who is an R2-D2 stan, it feels like this video was made for me. Bro has literally been my favorite Star Wars character since I was a kid, and loved him just as much as an adult. I'm glad Schafrillas made a follow-up video about the best boy.
Schaff rank the Star Wars movies by the lightsaber duels
