I just dropped by to get my weekly dose of 'The Shop'. That is because I love learning from experts. I love your 80/20 analogy and it set a light bulb off in my head.
When I was going to school I used to get between 0 and 20 percent in my exams and I could never really understand what that was telling me. I better understand it now, so I'm pleased that I dropped by 'The Shop' today. Thus you should have no regrets using it.
Hmm, I’ll have to do some research to find some experts to bring in as guests so you continue to tune in 🤪. Last I checked it was just me in there - except the damn squirrel that’s found a way in, a few crickets, and the odd wasp or two. I suppose all experts in their own ways. 😁
Eww! LOL I didn't stop laughing about that until the end of the video, when Eww! was the outro song. Nice build. I'm a fan of 80/20, too. I use a stainless screwdriver shank to smooth the cut edges without taking off the black, since I use black 80/20.
Nice trick on the screwdriver! I plan on adding a black “seal” down any of the exposed t-slots - hopefully that gives it a good look!
Yeah, I mostly got 20 percent of issues (or people) caused 80 percent of organisational problems application. Thank goodness for retirement!
I was slightly surprised not to see another TIG welding marathon with those frames - it's a 50/50 call given your penchant for 3-d prints though 🤔 Our little truck came with tee slot tracks running the length of the inside integrated into to the steel frame of the module. They were originally used to mount workshop equipment etc, but made for handy interior installation. The tee nuts we used came with the slightly less eewy (if that's even a word? 😳) coil spring anti-gravity option though 😬 It's great to see the interior layout of your module starting to take final shape.
That 80/20 rule finds its way into a lot of places! if it wasn’t for t-slot, this would likely be all cut and welded box tube - or wood! (And take a lot longer). It sure is useful stuff!
Nice job Bruce. These fittings must have taken you a loooooong time to print. I don't know if you are already doing this but.... I now always 3D print from the outside surface to the inside of the print. I think it give a smoother outside finish to my parts. Also, is printing with PETG about the same as with ABS ? Keep them coming... I like your videos and your humor.
Thanks! My prints generally do outside walls first, but can’t always do outside to inside, especially if there are steep overhangs - so often I’ll print walls print inside to outside. I haven’t printed any ABS yet, but PETG has been printing quite well with no fan - and I’ve never had any warping issues, and no noticeable fumes. Lots more coming, thanks for watching!
This is awesome. Just placed my initial order of 80/20 extrusions, and I've just gotten my lightly used 2019 Fuso FG! Question: how come you ended up going with the 2013 FG, rather than the earlier models (which have less aftertreatment systems, hi/lo case with 'better' transmission) or a newer models (with hopefully less wear and tear, corrosion, and a few improvements to transmission, engine, and aftertreatment system over the 2013)? Have you had much mechanical trouble to deal with your truck? I've just subscribed and I'm working my way through all your videos, sorry if you've answered these before!
Good stuff! Main reason for t he 2013 was the opportunity that came along - I got a good deal on it and a 2nd one which I fixed up and sold. Ideally would have found a 2008 or so, but couldn’t pass this one up. Around here the FG is a pretty rare truck to find, so pretty slim pickings! Haven’t driven my truck enough to give feedback on issues, but the sister truck to this one has been running great!
Do you think there would be enough strength without the corner caps? I may look into designing this for thee 40 series I was planing on using
The nice thing with the caps is that it’s adding structure on the opposite side, so it’s really hard for the joint to have any movement. That said I only have caps on the one corner and all the other areas seem just as strong!
