    As one of the best reviewed tyres on tyre reviews, we thought the natural competition for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 ultra high performance tyre was the very well regarded predecessor.
    We placed both the Asymmetric 3 and 2 through all the usual wet handling and braking, dry handling and braking, noise and comfort and aquaplaning tests using a VW Golf GTI and here's what we found.

    Last summer I buy asymmetric 3, before that I used bridgestone potenza and they were like a magnet! Same thing with F1 asym3, they are 100% bonded with the road, feeling so secure with them, and yes, you can drive with them to the limits. And big + they are not so expensive.
    On wet they are also great.
    I recommend them to everyone.
    My car is bmw e90,in dimensions 225-45-17. Perfect tyre!

    Just ordered a set of two GE F1 GS D3 FP's. Already mounted them on the rear axle last year and immediately noticed the much better turn-in and less resistance in the steeringwheel from the tires compared to Nankang NS-2's i drove before. Although on the highway i díd appreciated the more counter pressure in the steeringwheel coming from the tires in corners from the NS-2's in comparison to the GS D3 which feel more light and nimble, which is fun on B-roads, but makes you feel like you're ''floating'' on higher speeds. But maybe that changes ones the tires on the front axle are changed as well somewhere this week.

    It would be interesting to see comparisons between different tyres on the same brand like Continental Sport, Premium and Eco so we can see if we really need the Sport for our needs or maybe go for a cheaper tyre.

    Have had the asymmetric 2’s for nearly 4yrs nearly 16000 miles & still about 4mm of trad left even with some very spirited driving & 200 bhp through the front wheels of a car Wright only 1200kg.
    very good tyre good wear comfort good grip in all conditions except the worst snow the only thing I hope they have improved is the resistance to punctures especially in the side walls which are very soft.
    Great review will definitely be buying asymmetric 3’s in the future.

    I love watching your videos.. So informative...
    I have a quick question though which I've been struggling to get an answer for over the web. I drive a Genesis g80 RWD which came with stock Dunlop SP Sport Maxx and I do not like the side walling issues I've been facing with them. Makes me feel like I'm driving over marbles on high speeds.
    Would you recommend alternatives to them? I'm looking for comfortable Tyres and I've landed on the assym 3s. 5s aren't readily available here in Dubai. Any help or direction would be greatly helpful

    Really love these reviews. I've had both tyres, currently using the Asymmetric 3's, but strangely enough my experiences have been exactly the opposite. Where in this review it was mentioned that the feedback through the steering wheel is better on the 3's, I think it has become slightly worse. The Asymmetric 2's felt harder, gave a little bit more feeling in the steering wheel and it felt like they were biting into the asphalt a little bit more. The Asymmetric 3's on the other hand feel softer, more comfortable. When pushing them in corners I find it a bit harder to know where the limit is, it feels a bit more numb. The limit might be further on the 3's though.
    The best comparison I could give is that the Asymmetric 2's feel like, when using the exact same tyre size, as a slightly flatter tyre. I've used both in the size 215/45/17, but with a blind test the Asymmetric 3's feel more like 215/55/17. And it's certainly not a bad thing, for day to day use a more comfortable ride is certainly a plus.

    • @jaytam1
      @jaytam1 6 років тому +2

      +Haksdo2 I definitely second your opinion. I was on the A2s and it was time for me to change tyres and they didn't stock the A2s anymore but instead the A3s. I read the reviews and found the A3s to have some marginal improvements on all the categories so I went ahead with it. I recall also reading other reviews where some people found A2s provided better road feedback like yourself and I also felt the same immediately after the tyres are installed. I think the A3s is generally more compliant and slightly quieter but A2s had better steering feedback.

    Replaced my Asymmetric 2's to the front of my MK7 GTI with Asymmetric 3 five weeks ago and then I realised just how noisy my rear tyres were in comparison. Now changed the rears to Asymmetric 3 and for me the comfort and noise levels have dramatically improved. I realise the Asymmetric 2's on the rear had some saw-toothing that contributed to the noise but I do believe the new tyres are a great improvement over its predecessors irrespective of saw-toothing. Highly recommend using these tyres. In 21k miles I am now on my 3rd set of tyres not because the tyres were badly worn but simply in search of a better, quieter and more comfortable tyre.

    When i stage 1 tuned my 1.6Hdi 3008, the 380Nm torque first shredded my clutch. After the clutch has been uprated, its the Michelin primacy HPs turn to give up the ghost. Been considering both the PS4 & F1A3 when the when the additional $200 savings edged me to chose the F1A3. Tyres are much lighter compared to the Michelins. Have since piled on 10,000km on it. Dry grip is excellent, wet grip is good. Tyres are quiet and very comfortable. The rim protectors are thick and really protects my Sparco Assetto Garra rims very well.Only drawback, tyres seems softer and not very nail resistant even when new. Other than that, excellent tyres! *edit the car is shod with factory spec 225/50R17s

    • @tyrereviews
      @tyrereviews  6 років тому

      I'm not sure you'll reduce noise when comparing the Pirelli to the Goodyear. The act of changing the tyres might have the biggest difference.
      Alternatively look for a set of "silent" tyres which have the foam bonded to the inside of the tyres. Continental are leading this.

    Interesting. Currently I'm on Pirelli P7 Cinturato, but they are at 5 mm now, with still half a summer left (and I'm doing 50k a year). So I guess next year I might be ready for new tyres. Do you have any experience with the Pirellis? From what I gather they are more eco-centric, Pirelli calls them green performance tyres. Would I get an improvement from the F1 Asymmetric 3?

    • @tyrereviews
      @tyrereviews  7 років тому

      Sadly our direct experience with many Pirelli tyres is low. The natural Pirelli rival for this Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 is the Pirelli P Zero, and in tests where they're together, the Goodyear usually comes out best.

    • @yeesenchai
      @yeesenchai 7 років тому +2

      Those P7 cost a third more than the Asymmetric 3 where I live and most of the reviews I've seen and word of mouth are consistently showing the Goodyear as the better tire. Currently using the Goodyear on my sti with a stiffer suspension and its a lot more comfortable too.

      Hi Tom,
      They're all excellent choices. The Pilot Sport 4 is the newest of those tyres, and currently testing the best, but if noise and comfort are a priority it can be marked down in those categories.
      The CPC6 and F1A3 were both tested against each other in the latest EVO tyre test. If you've not managed to buy the magazine, check out the Tyre Reviews website next week as the full test will be available there :)

    I've had the 2's and 3's on my Focus ST170, found the 2 to be a really great Tyre but the very soft sidewalls spoiled it, which took away a little feel and pose. the 3's really addressed this and had a much firmer sidewall and feel yet have the same silky smooth ride.
    amazing all round Tyre and only around £73 in 17 (£80 in 18) gives you a premium Tyre at mid range prices, get around 25k rear and 12-15k front miles as well.
    maybe 3-5% less dry grip than say contact 5 or PS4 but your mostly gaining everywhere else but both were around a £100 which have only recently dropped to around the 90 mark.

Unfortunately from the first drives the car couldn't stop property from any speed, in low speeds abs kick in all the time in any road, I felt like I did the worst buy I could do. Now after 25.000km it still scary in braking. The tires have no wear but still can't do the job.

      This sounds VERY strange, where in the world are you? Are the tyres E-marked? They might be a grey import / fake, as the Asymmetric 3 consistently tests as a good wet tyre.

    • @padelos84
      @padelos84 5 років тому

      @@tyrereviews I live in Greece and the tyres I bought from a good reputation store. You say about fake tyres something I didn't know that exists and now I remember that the tyre store ordered the tyres from Holland, that's what he told me. The second strange thing was that the price was about 70€ cheaper than others that period ... That was a serious reason to get a good set of premium tyres. As for the E-marked you mention, I believe it exists on the tyres, but not sure, I have to check it, the date of production was OK, two months old.

    Th A2 tyre is designed for run flat and sacrifices on performance and comfortability. There are not many good run flat options for handful brands of run flat setup.

    • @Assimilator1

This month I bought Mich PS4 for the rear, and wow the difference in traction grip in the wet is a massive leap! With the A2s it would (just about) break grip in 3rd (when already in gear), with the PS4s (plural, not S version, lol), it can just about hold grip in 2nd gear! (both when under full throttle).

    I had 5 set's of assymetric 2 and i absolutely loved them to the bits but now i have had 2 sets of assymetric 3 nah it ain't the same it just isn't i can't don't understand why did they had to f up such a good tire. Don't get me wrong it is not bad at all but it is not the amazing asymmetric 2. Ok so real science. Assymetric 2 more expensive, wear slightly quicker, better wet handling! Better dry handling.. felt the road a lot more after you drive it in a bit! Braking no difference felt. Felt the car better and could understand the tyres generally better. Only real bad point they both are utterly useless on snow! Very bad driving habits to corner insanely and drive like it as well. Audi a4 b6 130hp heavy but quite quick (chiped) 9 years every day car a lot of mileage! Now i don't care how long you test them when there is such a long experience with only these tyres you can't compare one or two day test runs with my opinion. 225/40/18 XL 92Y

    I have a question for anybody. When I shop around for tires, I always try to see how much a certain tire weighs regardless of brand and type and the same thing goes for these Goodyear Asymmetric 3s. When you go on Tirerack.com and look up these tires in the size 265/35/R18s they weigh in at a very light 22 pounds. The next size up in the size 275/35/R18s weighs in at 27 pounds. That's a hell of a jump up and when multiplied by 4, that's 20 pounds of rotating weight for just a few more milimeters more of tire rubber. Why would that be?

    • @Savineyard3
      @Savineyard3 5 років тому

      By the way Tirerack says that all there tires regardless of brand and size are weighed individually per size so I believe it when I read that the 275/35/R18s are 5 pounds heavier than the 265/35/R18s. Maybe there is a added belt inside the 275s.

    • @tyrereviews
      @tyrereviews  5 років тому

      There's a good chance you're right about the belt, but only Goodyear would be able to answer properly!

      I have some very light weight magnesium wheels that came off of 2 C5 Corvettes. Yes I said 2 C5 Corvettes. Reason why is so I can run 18X9.5s on all 4 corners vs the normal 17X 8.5s used for the fronts. The 18X9.5s are only 2 pounds heavier without wheels vs the 17s so to me it is worth buying 2 full sets. The 17s will sit while I decide on what to do with them. These Goodyears in this video are the lightest max summer tires that fits perfectly at 265/35/R18s but I may use the new Toyo R888Rs (Not the normal older R888s) for road racing and autocrossing. But they are slightly heavier weighing in at 27 pounds for 275/35/R18s so I hope that the R888Rs will have the grip to offset their weight. The biggest reason why I need the 18s all around is because I have 14 inch Brembo ZL1 Brakes. Trust me if I have 12 Grand I would buy Carbon Fiber Wheels buy only if I can get them in the size and offset that I need for my 97 Camaro.@@tyrereviews
