If you'd like to see how these tyres do in the wet / noise / comfort etc you can see the full test here: www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm - also please review your tyres :)
Nice review! I have a bmw 120 xdrive (F20) and I think that it can only go on run flat. Do you think the ranking you made in the article will be similar with those type of tyres? The car came with Bridgestone potenza (former generation): they are not bad (of corse it’s not a car for the racetrack and on the road the performance is more than enough), but they feel a bit stiff (the size doesn’t help either … /40 at the front and /35 on the rear).

Firstly: I am an automotive technician. I have an AMG C450 and have run my stock Pirelli run-flats for a while now, and they have literally been worn to the wire. I just bought a set of Pilot Sport 4s and absolutely LOVE them. I honestly didn't actually realize how much quality tires made a difference (as I don't drive customer cars nearly as aggressive as my own), but have concluded that the extra money is entirely worth it, for the more spirited driver. 100% recommend 4s for anyone looking to have track tires on the street, as they are very capable in dry & wet performance! My car really does feel entirely different on there, to my surprise. 🙌
I have a 2019 ND2 2.0 MX5 with 70.000+ kms driving fast down the Croatian Adriatic road almost every weekend (410 kms of fun in one direction), fitted with Michelin Pilot SuperSport. I was thinking of going to Potenza Sport afterwards, but I guess not ;) Michelin PSS also have 1.5 cms wider thread than the OEM Potenza S001 at the same tire size (205/45/17).
For the ND. The hot setup is to move from the 205/45/17 to a 215/45/17 Global Cup size. I run the PS4S and after one track day and some street driving. They're night and day better than the stock Bridgestones.
I've got an NC MX-5 and am aware lots of people change the tyre size to 215 rather than 205 and am interested. How does it benefit the drive and how different do tyre pressures need to be?
Not exacly the same, i drive a NC with 205/45/17 Pilot Sport 4 (not S) great for track/road and does very well in the rain. And i have a second set 225/45/17 Michelin Cup 2's those are even better, but a little bit less grip in the rain but still more then most other non-semi slick tyre.
Wow, so much work. Just excellent. Still happy with my cup2's, which I got after asking you about them. Even wet performance is above expectations. You are the Tyre-guy, but so much more. Thank you for hard work, feedback and information. Respect
The right rear picked up rubber from the track, there wasn’t enough wear to negate what was essentially melted rubber left on the pavement. It is a joke btw… Firstly, The rubber that it did pick up would not come close to the amount of wear that was happening. Secondly, if it did, it’s isn’t good solid rubber that would actually provide appreciable grip. Thirdly, because of how it came to the tire, it would most likely scrub off extremely quickly anyways.
I've been unable to stop watching; these are some of the best tire/tyre evaluations I've seen anywhere. Watching this test, I noted that tire pressures were held equal at 2.5 bar, even though the tires were riding up the sidewalls in the corners. In my experience, tire design differences can require very different air pressure to achieve optimum performance. I suggest marking sidewalls during warm up, and adjusting tire pressure until they no longer roll past the edge of the tread at the limit. This will also reveal the need for a front-rear pressure difference that's roughly equal to the car's front-rear weight balance. SOP at track days I've attended.
These reviews are only useful if you have the exact same car, drive the exact same track, with the exact same track temperature with the exact same level of rubber on track. IE unless. Comfort and ride noise would be more useful.
Thanks for the video! I had the same issue as shown here with the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. On my MX-5 ND (light car, RWD) just 30 minutes on track were enough to show extreme wear on the shoulders. I'm glad that you could replicate this behavior, as I was worried about me doing something wrong. I was previously using the S001 and lasted for 17000 km with several track days. Of course with lower grip levels, but with perfect wear. Not going to repeat with Potenza Sports, as some commented here semi-slicks is the way to go.
This is crazy. My 340i came with S001 RFT and I'm sitting in the shop getting Potenza Sport of on. I'm regretting my decision. Should have spent a little more on the PS4S
Trackday enthusiasts probably will not only do at least some brake improvements like fluid & pads, but also will change alignment some, eg. extra camber, which should reduce outer front tire wear and understeer, making it less of an issue. For me clear and only winner are Bridgestones, due them being only ones offered in 17" sizing. Yes, more modern cars often have larger wheels, but track junkies more commonly drive on older beaters they can afford to risk more and with cheaper track expenses, hence even more kudos to Bridgestone for that. List tested imho missed Contis, also having good offering in class tested, but no biggie, they were in your other tests. Whatever, still big thanks for yet another good & competent test for our enjoyment and more educated tire purchase decisions. Got my like even before watching whole video, deservedly :)
All good points. I only had time to fun a 3 set test and everyone would have been confused if i included the "premiumcontact" in this group, even if it would have done really well
@Erik B It all depends on where and how most of the wear happens. You just "choose your poison"(optimal alignment for use) according that. If most of the wear happens on track (tire set might be "worth" around 5 track days), and it happens in one season/summer, daily driven mileage/wear in that time will be negligible and extra inner camber wear - ignorable,
Since Bridgestone Potenza Sport's main advantage is that it is the only UUHP offered in 17inch, it would be extremelly useful to have the same test comparing 17 inch rivals in the likes of Michelin PS4, Conti PC6, Goodyear AS5, Pirelli PZ4. I believe this is the main interest of the everyday 17inch wheel driver with track use in mind. 18+inch wheelers have options, we knew that already.
Fully agree here, when winter is over a new set of tyres might be needed for my GT86, and have had an eye on the potenzas. Annoying that 17" ps4s aren't available over here for example..
Comparing tyre weights in 225/45 R17: Falken RT660 10.8kg (track day tyre), Potenza S007A 10.4kg, Potenza Sport 9.9kg [so it's already weight-reduced for low rolling resistance compared to the predecessor model :(], ExtremeContact Force 9.9kg (track day tyre), Pilot Sport 4 9.5kg, F1 Asymmetric 3 9.1kg, PremiumContact 6 8.9kg. While Jonathon has said the 18" CPC6 has good sidewalls, it doesn't seem like the 17" model does, considering how lightweight the structure is. The trend to no longer give 'road' tyres the same rigid structure as track day tyres is very disappointing IMO, lots of people want the precise handling but don't need the grip or poor aquaplaning resistance of a track day tyre. -- Why not have one product line for Passat and C300 drivers who want traction with high comfort, but then a true sports road tyre line for Clio RS and WRX STi drivers who do want the rigidity in the tyre, even if (like the 2005 WRX STi or 2005 Clio Gordini) it only came with 17" or 16" tyres when it was new?
Many people complain about the lack of sizes for Michelin and Goodyear. I have noticed that in general Bridgestone makes new tyres for many different sizes compared to the competition...
Amazing quality of videos and testing, as usual, thanks a lot for making our days with your detailed reviews! I replaced my PS4S by the new GY Supersport R, didn't track them yet but on the road they are amazing (I left a review on your site) : very progressive slides under cold weather conditions, communicative on the wet and very sticky when hot. PS4S were amazing on the wet (but a bit brutal when breaking grip), I was not that amazed on dry conditions and they lost a lot of grip after 4 laps on track. Thanks and keep up the good work!
The Potenza is a cheat tyre. I ran a couple of sets on a new new civic type R. I deduced that they were dual compound. They gave astounding grip for the first 1,500 miles then lost about 75% of the traction and thereafter would last forever on the harder inner compound. Your tests show rapid initial wear which corroborates this. If you ran all three full term you would find it would have a similar or better overall range. Once you were through the grippy soft layer on the Potenza you could see a line at each edge of the tyre which was the difference in compound
I'm beginning to believe this too. Michelin do it with the Cup 2R but at least they're honest about them turning into Cup 2's after a few fast laps. On the other hand my Potenza Sports turned to scrap after one track day which was most certainly not advertised.
I've just put Potenza Sports on my MX-5 NC using your website as my main guide. That caveat about track wear not corelating to road wear is ... reassuring!!! They only went on today but I'm very happy with them.
@@paulwood6729 I've had Potenza RE050 tires on my E63 6 Series and loved them. Then I switched to PS4 and the ride became floaty. Today I've placed an order for two Potenza Sport tires to improve my rear axle handling (275 / 35 R19). Hopefully the car will handle just as good as it used to with the old Potenzas. As I don't track my car, I'm not worried about tread wear.
@@zsb707Any updates how are they doing today, do they have much wear? I got Potenza Sport 4 for my F06 640xd about a week ago. So far, so good, the grip is mindblowing, fronts are 245/35/20 and rears 275/30/20. One thing I don’t really like is when going over bumps, I really feel them, but I think that might be due to the low profile of the tyre and not the tyre itself?
Jon! It's me again; John from Greece...awesome video. Thanks for doing it. I wanted to get back to you regarding our conversation from a year, or so ago and somewhat related to your video here. I had gotten the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S for my VW Golf Gti (even though you recommended, for me, the Michelin Pilot Super Sports)...I was VERY disappointed in the 4 S' as compared to my usual and trusted classic Michelin Pilot Super Sports. So much so, that after about 6 months I traded the 4 S' for some Pilot Super Sports. You are the only reviewer I have come across that has mentioned that the older Michelin Pilot Super Sports "have more road feel" as compared to the newer 4 S'. I would also add, for me, they have much better traction in the dry too. I'm surprised that more driving enthusiasts have also not mentioned this in their reviews...I'm thankful the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are still available here in Greece. I am tempted on my next set to try the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports. Thanks again for you great channel. Appreciate your work as it helps a lot of us tire "nerds." :)
Thanks for the update :) The Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport is definitely worth a purchase if you fancy trying something different, they're my fav from the current batch :) Also if you get some time feel free to put some reviews on the website if you've not already :)

Really interesting video once again mate! I find the Brigestones very unpredictable in the UK, especially when below 10 degrees and damp/greasy, interesting to see they basically self destruct on track too. Really impressed with what the 4 S's looked like after a beating, fair play to the F1 SuperSport for outright lap-time!
I have the sport potenza on my leon cupra 300hp I join you I am not serene at low temperature is they wear out very quickly on the road 5000km max on the front axle but they hold really well as soon as they are hot but I can not change tire before all 5000km I will try the good year super sport I hope to be disappointed the 4s and bcp too expensive almost double a potenza or good year
Bridgestone tyres just seen to be trash for normal cars or pickups. I witnessed Michelin crossclimates perform better in 14C wet weather than Bridgestone potenzas. It was super embarrassing. Crossclimates held on flawlessly under hard acceleration
Are you taking about the Potenza Sport tyre specifically or Bridgestone in general? My experience of the Potenza Sport on damp/wet/greasy roads couldn't be more different from what you've described...super predictable, excellent traction and actually saved my ass a couple of times after coming too hot into corners that were tighter than they looked.
I think summer tires are just that, summer tires. And I suspect manufacturers have taken 'advantage' of the fact that most people nowadays will switch to winter tires in the fall, developing summer tires even more towards higher temperatures.
Thanks, MDEV. The only thing that put me off Conti's was that they have narrower tread width in reality compared to Michelin and Goodyear, despite same size on all 3.
Another great vid, thanks! Would be brill to see this kinda data on a RWD car too, amazing work though, nice to see that there is still stiff competition between high quality/ performance road tyres!
@@perakojot6524 I've been using the michelin's for about 8 months on a 330d RWD. Absolutely love them, I drive on some really twisty roads with steep hills and these by far and away give the best handling on these roads and motorways. I've used previous versions of both the others and continental as well. I swap to continental winter contacts for winter so can't say how they handle on colder roads
Yes, we need a RWD test also for those tyres. I need to buy my summer tyres for the winter... yes, no Snow here. Just need a deep enought tyre thread for the rain. By the way, when will you test the GY F1 SS R? Thanks
Brilliant! Just the test I wanted! Did my 1st track day in my M3 earlier this month, managed to stay on track (with just one scary moment, lol) and loved it! Will need new rear tyres some point next year.
Great video! Bought Potenza for my Cayman and run a few laps on the track. The result is similar or even worse of what we can see in this video. Potenza definitely NOT a tire for track use!
Benson does it again! Excellent video with excellent, usable data. Really disappointed with the Potenza Sport's track wear! Would love to see a video on different tires available in different markets and WHY!!! It seems silly that in Europe you've got the Eagle Super Sports and the USA has the Eagle Super Car 3 - would love to hear from manufacturers why certain tires are only available in certain markets and if you could compare them, that would be awesome.
The older Potenza S007A seemed to be ok for multiple track days, I really don't understand what has gone wrong with the Potenza Sport. Bridgestone in Australia claim the Sport is an improvement over the S007A, but I'm not sure -- the S007A already performed at a high level, close to Eagle F1 Super Sport & Pilot Sport 4S (and better in some metrics) in tyre testing here in Australia.
I have put around 25 laps in my PS4S. Either could weather (17) or wet (8) laps. Thread wear is still fine but the geometry together with the soft sidewall of the PS4S really shows. The shoulders of the tires are gone and there is no thread left. Ofc all of this also depends on what's your pace. I was lapping around the 8:10 mark in the dry and around 2 minutes slower in the wet.
@@ervin7178 exactly. Depending on the vehicle and pace that can easily be 30+ minutes of track time, which is definitely not "literally nothing" For context, 9 laps at this goodyear facility was
Great test, great info 👍🏻 I'm driving on potenza sport, and been doing so for 4 months now, I'm really happy with them. They do very well in wet. And have great grip all around. I'm on 17" And now the temp is below 5 some days they still do well ! Sad to see they don't last as long, as the others on track days. But still very happy about the tire ☺️ And not easy to get others in 205/45/17.
I'm driving on potenza sport as well on my nc mx5. The wear is very worrying as the tread is dropping close to the legal limit after 4000 miles of street driving only( not a single track day), which is roughly the same level as the ad08rs i used to have
@@amaguri8446 I just toke my wheels off. done 10,700 KM or 6600 Miles, since juli about 5 month now. i measured with caliper. front about 5,3 MM Rear about 6 / 5,8 MM so i think they are doing just fine. :) i do drive for eco normally, but like to corner hard and rip it sometimes. :)
I bought the Potenza Sport before seeing this video as I'd had the Potenza RE040, RE050A and S001 on my RX8 before and was excited by the reviews. Easily the best road tyres I've had on the car but after two track days at Snetterton and Silverstone my front left matched your wear pattern exactly ( my right actually wasn't too bad ) . At Snetterton the rubber on the two bands closest to the outside just melted off. At Silverstone I dropped the pressure a bit to see if it would help and it looked like it rolled over on the sidewall and that disintegrated. I've recently put Eagle F1 supersports all around ( thanks for the advice ) and look forward to seeing how they do on track.
After two track days I've decided to go with semi-slicks because I've almost destroyed my new Potenza Sport tires. This review confirms that they simply melt on track. Great on road .. not so good on track.
Useful comparison for those wanting an occasional track day without the hassle of changing wheels. . .I’ve got a set of F1SS on my 7.5R and the road handling is spot on👌😎
Good video again Based on a Tyre Review test, I've been using Eagle F1 Supersport on my RX8, for a few years. They are superb on track and work well in wet and cold conditions where semi-slicks do not. They grip well on the road, but are firmer than normal tyres; buy Eagle F1 Assy 5, if you do do use your car on track. My only complaint is that the smallest size they come in is 18".
I've been running F1 supersport for 2 years and the conclusion I have is, it's not really competing against ps4s. It's very durable after heat cycles, and handles track days extremely well. But it's very stiff, noisy, and wet performance is noticeably worse than PS4S. I think it slots perfectly between PS4S and Cup2.
I agree, my road-biased experience indicates that the regular GY Eagle F1 series fits between PS4 and PS4S, and for daily road use I wouldn’t want Supersports any more than I’d want to run Cup2s. Maybe we’re just demanding too much: if you’re a regular “Tracker”, get a second set of wheels/tyres rather than asking one tyre to do everything?
I've found the Supersport, to be good in the wet but have never driven the PS4S. I feel it is a good tyre for days when conditions on track are mixed between wet and dry. The road manners are not great, they are noisy. But they do grip well, wet and dry
I've been using the F1 SuperSport on my FN2 Civic for about two years now and they're a mixed bag. On a warm dry summer days they're jaw-droppingly good and are very impressive in the wet. Bags of feel and very predictable. On cooler days (10-15c) they have to be warmed up to perform and while they do they're pretty average. On damp days they're a handful and if the roads are remotely greasy they're awful. Overall they're an awesome summer tyre, but they're not a 3-season tyre! I'll be trying the AS5's next as I loved the AS2/AS3's, but I'll have to accept they won't perform like the F1 SuperSport's in summer. Other things to note are an increase in road noise, wear rate and torque-steer over the AS3's I had on last. I'm estimating they'll have done about 8k miles by the time they're down to the limit.
Did you end up swapping back? If you did, how did you find it? I found the same thing you have with the f1ss. Overall a great tyre but I am considering the asym6 now as well as I prefer to take the car out in the cooler months rather than the midst of summer.
Thanks for your data it makes our choice much better and avoid us to loose money on bad tires. Thanks a lot and hope you keep doing more of this video.
Excellent test and info! The shot of how much the tires move around on the rim during cornering was surprising! Appreciate your subjective impressions on how communicative the tires are on track!
Pleased to see the F1SS still figuring in your reviews, I run a set of 18's on my Golf 7.5R and can vouch for the superb handling on the road in both wet and dry conditions😎 . . . thanks JB for all your guidance, keep up the good work 👍👍
I really like the fact that you show the deterioration after just 5 laps. These tyres are not intended for people with much track experience, although it doesn't mean they are bad tyres. These are for people who want to try their car on track for the first time, or perhaps may never actually drive their car on track even if they believe they could. The biggest problem is the tyre is likely to be toast after 1 or 2 track days, so its going to be expensive when you need to replace them.
While the Potenza S007A was not perfect, I don't think it was as bad as the Potenza Sport in terms of circuit wear. I'm not sure what has gone wrong in the process of Bridgestone Europe revising and updating the S007A!
Yep, another excellent test. Very surprised at that BPS degradation over such few laps. Still might try them on one of my cars as I can't get the others in the size required. Am running the GY on another car. Very happy with it and will continue with it over the massively more expensive 4S. In fact, at this time, I just don't see the extra expense of the 4S in this tyre size as worth it at all. Perhaps that will change in the future as humanity slowly starts to get off it's arse and moving properly again.... Thanks again JB !
Your video’s are by far the best in tests.. i have a wish/request for ur tests in 2022.. could you make a tests for road/track tire for 15 inch wheels.. cuz most of any tests on you tube are 17-21 inch Thank you ;) happy new year
I have just installed few days ago a GY F1 SS on my F22, they replaced PS4. I am very impressed with these tyre. Didn't had the time yet to go on track, but the feel, feedback and grip it's just a whole new level. Still need to learn which pressure they like more. Thanks for another great review.
@@tyrereviews thanks 👍 As you said in this review already the F1SS is noticeably stiffer as the PS4S , you will most likely loose even more comfort with F1SS compared to softer PS4 I‘m still struggling to go for F1SS instead of current star marked PSS on the M140, Don’t wanna ruin the daily driveability with a lot more harshness. But wanna improve wet grip
This was a great video thanks. I recently fitted a set of Potenza sports to my Impreza and so far found the grip on the road is immense. This video makes me think twice about taking them on track though, but the wear could be different with a 4WD car. Maybe better to leave it towards the end of the tyres life. Also it's disappointing that Michelin produce the 4S in only one size for the 18 inch market, this was the main reason for choosing the Potenza. There seems to be limited choice with the F1 Supersport as well.
@@AlexB13 When I asked Michelin back in June this was their reply "we regret to inform that at the moment we do not plan on releasing this model in that particular size."
This is the exact tyre test I wanted to see following your previous UHP test, i went for PS4S from all your previous videos and I was severely tempted by Goodyear but Costco have great deals on Michelin which was the decider. Glad I dodged the Bridgestone due to its wear life and also it low new tread depth as I do around 25k a year. I never thought I’d become a tyre snob but thanks to this channel I have!
Interesting. I use my 4S at the track from time to time and have been really impressed by the consistency and wear. Not sure I'd be in any rush to swap brands based on this test.
From my experience with both tyres, if you are doing trackdays i would definitely recommend giving the Goodyears a shot. The grip is slightly better, but what impressed me the most was the handling, the car feels a lot sharper and more communicative on F1SS compared to PS4S.
I used bridgestones on 2 track days from new on yaris gr and I have severe wear. Car only done 1200 miles in total and looking at changing them. Was a mistake buying them
Thanks for this. Some of your reviews I find relevant and useful, others not so (snow SUV 🤣), but every video I am just so impressed with the time, thought and dedication you put in. Awesome, keep it up!!!!!
Shame no one has a proper review on Advan AD08RS. Everybody criticise them, but would be interesting how they compare to track and UHP road tyres. Also, Potenza Sport disappointed - that wear is no good. No option in UK for 17" fast road/track tyre unfortunately. Thanks for review Jon.
I blame you for the increase of price in the super sports 😂 when I first started buying them a couple of years back they was marginally cheaper then the Michelin’s, now they’re creeping above. Great vid !
Great video! I have the impression that the Michelin flexed it's side wall the least. The comparison is exemplary. Although, it seems that tyres requiring 2.5 bar and still flexing that much are just not the right size. Having in mind that serious setups use 1.3-1.6 bar and wear the same or less. Also, you drive alone, imagine having to seal with 10 or 20 other cars and the associated maneuvers, those won't last 30 minutes. Not critisizing, just a side note for weight of vehicle/tyre size. It would be interesting to see 285 tyres on something like a STi
I bought a set of MPS 4S in 19" for my RCZ R in the summer and love them. Car has been transformed from the previous GY Eagle F1 Aysmetrics which I didn't like and came on the car as specced by Peugeot. Was planning to do a track day or two next year so your test is very useful indeed. Also got a fantastic deal on them from ATS Euromaster for a set of 4.
How did they wear? I just got myself some PS4's and can't wait to put them on my RCZ. Does the understeer balance stay the same or does it get more balanced since there is such low weight on the back tires?
Just replaced my PS4 setup with Potenza Sports in time for a track day next week. Now fully expecting to be buying more tyres the week after...oops! Thanks for the video Jon!
You may have already seen it but the forensic detailing youtube channel also put the bridgestone to work on track and they were pretty much ruined after
I had Michelin PS4S on my R26 I now have Goodyear F1 supersport on my R26. Both fantastic tyres on road and track for a road tyre. No more second set of wheels and semi slick tyres to carry to the track days.
That was my experience with Bridgestone tyres generally - I had a set of RE003's some years ago - they only managed 17,000km before they approached the wear markers and failed annual inspection. Swapped out to PS4's on the same car, same driving conditions, got twice the KM's. Sure the RE003's were cheaper, but they weren't anywhere near half the price of the PS4's! I think they are intentionally ripping people off.
@@Beer_Dad1975 i have r05 potenza tyres and they are amazing from the continentals... that were really shit, numb feeling and so far im loving the tyres and i read that they last more than the michelin wtf is going on with this shit??? they are all diferent models and of course better griping tyres will last less... but this is no aceptable having tyres ruined in a few laps.... also these test are not realistic at all they should be at least 6 months using on roads
@@thepro08 Yeah maybe the RE003's are just an anomaly, I've certainly had good experiences with Bridgestone in the past - but once burnt I move on, and so far the Michelin are the best suited for me. Same thing happened to me with Yokohama when they moved production from Japan they turned to shit after I'd been happy with them for a number of years.
Very interesting and consistent test. I drive with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres on my Golf R as a daily. Before driving a few fast laps on the track, the tyres don't have the heat, grip and predictability on the road. Having said that, they do still grip and handle well on the road when they're not a track temperature (pressure consistent), but clearly do not have the better, more optimum performance as they do at track temperature. Furthermore, the general wear of the MPSC2 is very even with no feathering on or off track, and near their end of life they show little to no regression to a sudden loss of grip and performance. Just wanted to throw this out here!
Bridgestone Potenza Sport is my favourite for street driving. Used 4S and Sport in my FK8 stage 3 and tuned 991.2 Turbo S. In both cars Potenza Sport has better handling, can stop later and shorter, drive faster in each curve with 3-5 km/h and feel more stable in every situation. Potenza Sport is not designed for the track. But if you get Potenza Sport Race, Cup 2 is a way slower tyre.
Excellent review as always, now I'm now quite pleased that my newly bought car has fresh F1 Supersports rather than 4S (or any other tire for that matter). They do feel great :D
Interesting, good to know that there are good alternatives to the "4S". Had the Pilot SuperSport on my CS and also, drove them on a Competition on the track. Really heat sensitive - if you start leaning into them, they will heat up and start understeering. You need to drive with less entry speed AND watch out when accelerating, they broke traction even when going slow. One of the reasons I exchanged them immediately with the Cup 2s on my CS. Also, maybe you could get the ContactSport 6, or even 7, next time. They seem to do well, especially when mounted on a FWD car (CS6 is the OEM tire for the Civic Type R). And, it was hard to watch...can't stand the dreaded sound of understeer. It brings back memories when I "had to do" with a FWD hot hatch. What helped/helps, is sawing a little at the wheel, to break the initial understeer and provoke a bit of oversteer/the back to step out. Not my driving style though, I never got comfortable doing that, but have seen professional (race/test)drivers employing it with success.
Great video! I was expecting such test since a while. excellent result from the Goodyear as well, à study of the outside shoulder would have been good but the test is ery informative as it is. 👍
Another one of your great in-depth worthwhile tyre tests please keep it up 👍 Btw I've been running MPS4s on my RS3 8P for the last 4 years Inc 3 trackdays @ Bedford autodrome which one was a cold wet November, great tyre for my driving level & good road milage to boot.
I'd love to see a comparison between these and my current favourite 200 treadwear tyre, Yokohama A052. What is the difference in difference in communication and steering feel. I'm looking for a tyre that prioritises driving enjoyment. Thanks for your videos!
Yokohama 052 is a great option. If you are looking for communication and steering ferl, Continental SportContac 6 is a good option too for road use ( not circuit ).
Nice comparison, but the fact that it's done on a Goodyear test facility track makes me question whether their compound suits the tarmac on the track they develop the tire on more.
Interesting Review. Have you ever considered the Nexen SU4 in a review for Summer performance tyres? It has excellent reviews on your website and is one of the cheapest out there. Would be very interested in how that one compares to others like the PS4 as I'm very happy with the Nexen even with extreme pushing. Cheers
I have to say, I often don’t expect great things when I see a comparison like this. The number of potential variables is just so huge and the largest being the drivers themselves. So I’ll start by giving kudos to you for seeming to be at the very least a very capable driver who is (more importantly) quite consistent! That is huge when it comes to a shootout like this. While the pilot was the performance leader, it seems like the Michelin generally had the least wear. The Bridgestone had the most wear, but as you mentioned seemed to have come regained its performance as the laps continued. Which would you pick for being the best choice for a daily tire for someone who might participate in a track day more rarely vs more frequently? Is it reasonable at all to think that with either a longer race or multiple races (maybe back to back weekends) that the Bridgestone might offer more consistent performance as wear continues? Or, does the shear amount of wear negate it from being considered a good choice?
Any chance of the Eagle F1 Super Sport being made available in 17"? :) If not, that makes Potenza Sport (or maybe RE004) the only choice for us 17" folks seeking precise sidewalls. To be fair, I have been perfectly happy with S007A on the road (versus extremely unhappy with 17" Pilot Sport 4 non-S ST variant, they were ridiculously floaty IMO), the S007A don't seem to wear that much with road use -- it's unclear how different the Sport is to the S007A.
As the S007A is made in so few sizes I've never actually managed to test it, glad you're happy with it though and please stick a review on www.tyrereviews.com if you get the time :)
@@pedroneves8288 sorry, www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm it's as close as you'll get, same tyres in 18" so the results will largely stand
Jonathan, if you remember, again on 2,4 bar cold pressure? What wheels were used on this test, something like 8,0x18 ET50ish? Seems higher/stock-like offset. Thanks again, appreciate it!
How would you think the Good Year Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s would have fared in this test? They proved to have a more sporty feeling than the 4s in another test you've made (this was your main complaint on the 4s), while being very close in performance. I own them and wear seems to be pretty good as well, also if driven to the limit (even wear across the width of the tire)... Definitely not a screamy tire. Seems like for a prolonged trackday a UHP tire like the 4s might be even better than a track focused tire (will last longer and wear better, at the expense of some speed). Is this what you were trying to prove (or test)?
The asym 5 vs 4s test is here if you've not seen it. www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm Better is subjective. I'd rather the Cup 2 on a track day as it's better when hot, and even if the 4S out lasts it I'd personally take that extra ability from the track focused tyre
Was really happy with the F1 Supersports when I fitted them to my RS3. I dare say I will replace the Michelin PSS on my M2 with the F1 SS when the time comes.
If you'd like to see how these tyres do in the wet / noise / comfort etc you can see the full test here: www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm - also please review your tyres :)
Any chance of runflats getting some love too?
Nice review! I have a bmw 120 xdrive (F20) and I think that it can only go on run flat. Do you think the ranking you made in the article will be similar with those type of tyres? The car came with Bridgestone potenza (former generation): they are not bad (of corse it’s not a car for the racetrack and on the road the performance is more than enough), but they feel a bit stiff (the size doesn’t help either … /40 at the front and /35 on the rear).
Any plans on doing Nitto Nt01, Nitto Invo, Nitto Neo Gen, Nitto N555 G2, Hoosier A7, Hoosier S7, or Maxxis Victra RC-1?

A TIRE BRAND WAR
What a brilliant video, I'm trying to choose between these tyres for my ND MX5 which I track occasionally. This video was exactly what I needed.
I have a 2019 ND2 2.0 MX5 with 70.000+ kms driving fast down the Croatian Adriatic road almost every weekend (410 kms of fun in one direction), fitted with Michelin Pilot SuperSport. I was thinking of going to Potenza Sport afterwards, but I guess not ;)
Michelin PSS also have 1.5 cms wider thread than the OEM Potenza S001 at the same tire size (205/45/17).
Lol track car 🚗 until the gearbox breaks like glass like mine
Not exacly the same, i drive a NC with 205/45/17 Pilot Sport 4 (not S) great for track/road and does very well in the rain. And i have a second set 225/45/17 Michelin Cup 2's those are even better, but a little bit less grip in the rain but still more then most other non-semi slick tyre.
Wow, so much work. Just excellent.
Still happy with my cup2's, which I got after asking you about them. Even wet performance is above expectations.
You are the Tyre-guy, but so much more. Thank you for hard work, feedback and information. Respect
Glad you're enjoying them :D Great tyres.
Yep, what you said :-).
I'd pick the Goodyear, because the Rear Left regenerates tread. I'll just rotate the tires after each track session and have infinite tread :))
Is this joke? How is that possible
The right rear picked up rubber from the track, there wasn’t enough wear to negate what was essentially melted rubber left on the pavement. It is a joke btw…
Firstly, The rubber that it did pick up would not come close to the amount of wear that was happening.
Secondly, if it did, it’s isn’t good solid rubber that would actually provide appreciable grip.
Thirdly, because of how it came to the tire, it would most likely scrub off extremely quickly anyways.
@@synapticbit great clarification thank you
lol...spit my coffee up!

SOP at track days I've attended.
cars on racetrack needs camber.
These reviews are only useful if you have the exact same car, drive the exact same track, with the exact same track temperature with the exact same level of rubber on track. IE unless. Comfort and ride noise would be more useful.
Exactly that’s the comparison, I need for my decision for my next year summer tire! Thank you very much!
Glad it was useful!
Buy pirelli TrofeoR ;)
I only had time to fun a 3 set test and everyone would have been confused if i included the "premiumcontact" in this group, even if it would have done really well
That camber might be harsh for inner tyre wear …. It’s always costing rubber and money 😉
Great suggestion. Unfortunately more “good” tyres aren’t made in a typical older hot hatch size such as a 17
@@itsnotagsr Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is made, just not available in Europe and can't see why not. Semi slicks exists in 17inch and even below.
@@TassieLorenzo Oh man, you're absolutely right. we want rigid structure tires.
You sir should get a Nobel peace prize award for research!!!! Very helpful and perhaps the only one doing good work for us petrol blooded folk!

They only went on today but I'm very happy with them.
how is the wear now at months passed?
@@bugydugy4952 My mileage is a fraction of what it used to be but I'm happy with them. I'd happily get them again with my next set.
@@paulwood6729 They came in today, had them mounted on the rear axle (275 / 35 R19) and the great handling is back 😊😊. Awesome!!

For the money the 4s's are a dream on a daily driver :)
Great review, as always! I used to be a Michelin PS4/PS4s fan, but the steering feedback of Goodyear SuperSport won me over.
The steering feedback of Continental SportContact 6 is very good too.
Exactly would be great to see the same tyres tested on a Bimmer.
@@perakojot6524 I've been using the michelin's for about 8 months on a 330d RWD.
I was also impressed with the little wear on my GR Yaris PS4S after 4 laps of Nordschleife! It really feels like you punish it, but it does fine!
4 laps is literally nothing
I have put around 25 laps in my PS4S. Either could weather (17) or wet (8) laps. Thread wear is still fine but the geometry together with the soft sidewall of the PS4S really shows.

Useful comparison for those wanting an occasional track day without the hassle of changing wheels. . .I’ve got a set of F1SS on my 7.5R and the road handling is spot on👌😎
F1SS is an OEM tyre on the Mk8 Golf R too. If only Goodyear would make them in smaller sizes though, for folks with older cars or smaller wheels.
What exactly you say about the SS vs the Asymetrics?
You're right. Road noise is very important. Eagle F1 are very noisy when they wear out.
@@docmattic Yes I did, but to the Asymmetric 6's. Awesome daily driving tyre.

Great test as always! Looking forward to more tyre videos!💪👍
Your video’s are by far the best in tests.. i have a wish/request for ur tests in 2022.. could you make a tests for road/track tire for 15 inch wheels.. cuz most of any tests on you tube are 17-21 inch
Thank you ;) happy new year
I have just installed few days ago a GY F1 SS on my F22, they replaced PS4. I am very impressed with these tyre. Didn't had the time yet to go on track, but the feel, feedback and grip it's just a whole new level. Still need to learn which pressure they like more. Thanks for another great review.
How is the comfort ?
Over the PS4 you'll likely drop some comfort, I think I cover it here: www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
@@tyrereviews thanks 👍
As you said in this review already the F1SS is noticeably stiffer as the PS4S , you will most likely loose even more comfort with F1SS compared to softer PS4
I‘m still struggling to go for F1SS instead of current star marked PSS on the M140,
Don’t wanna ruin the daily driveability with a lot more harshness.
But wanna improve wet grip
@@vollcare4076 go 4S, better comfort, better wet grip
@@tyrereviews thanks
Could you pls talk to Michelin to make the PS4S in 245/35 18 like ‚everybody‘ is waiting for ;)
This was a great video thanks.
It's doubly frustrating as there's more 17" and 18" PS4S sizes in the US, we just don't get them :(
@@tyrereviews Why?
@@AlexB13 When I asked Michelin back in June this was their reply "we regret to inform that at the moment we do not plan on releasing this model in that particular size."
@@failequalsuccess Good for Goodyear
how about the wear on the Potenzas through this months?
Awesome review and video....i just wish the Conti Sport Contact 6 was in there too!
Welcome to the world of tyre geeking :D
Interesting. I use my 4S at the track from time to time and have been really impressed by the consistency and wear. Not sure I'd be in any rush to swap brands based on this test.
From my experience with both tyres, if you are doing trackdays i would definitely recommend giving the Goodyears a shot. The grip is slightly better, but what impressed me the most was the handling, the car feels a lot sharper and more communicative on F1SS compared to PS4S.
I used bridgestones on 2 track days from new on yaris gr and I have severe wear. Car only done 1200 miles in total and looking at changing them. Was a mistake buying them
Thanks a lot for the test!! Exactly the tyres what I would buy and could not decide
Thanks for this.
Some of your reviews I find relevant and useful, others not so (snow SUV 🤣), but every video I am just so impressed with the time, thought and dedication you put in. Awesome, keep it up!!!!!
Very interesting review, I like the way you compared everyone of them and the data you showed us, well done 👏
Great review mate and appreciate the work you put in to make it. I feel informed.
Another tough day at work :) Happy for u man...cool vid
I blame you for the increase of price in the super sports 😂 when I first started buying them a couple of years back they was marginally cheaper then the Michelin’s, now they’re creeping above.
Great vid !
Saw the title. Clicked on watch!
I hope you enjoyed :)
@@tyrereviews always! Your content is some of the best out there.
Cracking vid' as always. Given me a pretty good idea of what's going on the s#!tbox next 🙂
Superb work, as usual!
Thanks!
As predicted the tyre shoulders were wrecked after one track day. Would not recommend the potenza sport for the track at all!
You may have already seen it but the forensic detailing youtube channel also put the bridgestone to work on track and they were pretty much ruined after
Oooo I've not, i'll check out thanks!
Let be honest he'd a large chap. No wonder the tyres gave out.
I had Michelin PS4S on my R26 I now have Goodyear F1 supersport on my R26. Both fantastic tyres on road and track for a road tyre. No more second set of wheels and semi slick tyres to carry to the track days.
Nice car :)
@@tyrereviews cheers 🍻 off to Spa next Sunday for the yearly track day.
Any differences that you like/dislike from the goodyear f1 ss?
Finally able to watch this after work!
Wow, those Bridgestones are absolutely trashed after 9 laps! That’s pretty crazy. Thanks for these awesome tests you do for all us tire nerds.
It's certainl best to use a track tyre on track, but they can be pretty bad in the winter in lots of climates!
@@tyrereviews Too true! The MPSC2s aren't quite golf balls in winter here ;-).
Really interesting video, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I feel with manufacturer’s claims it can be a minefield but you break it down beautifully
Thanks for the kind words :)
Bought Bridgestone Potenza Sport. I am so happy with the tyres.
What car?
Volvo S60 D4 2.0 Diesel 2016
I'm getting them on ep3
Great video, great data! Congratulations!
Thanks!
Excellent review as always, now I'm now quite pleased that my newly bought car has fresh F1 Supersports rather than 4S (or any other tire for that matter). They do feel great :D
Thanks for doing this video. It answered a lot of my questions.
Another one of your great in-depth worthwhile tyre tests please keep it up 👍
Btw I've been running MPS4s on my RS3 8P for the last 4 years Inc 3 trackdays @ Bedford autodrome which one was a cold wet November, great tyre for my driving level & good road milage to boot.
Definitely a great choice for wet days, and nice car!
@@tyrereviews Yes a great tyre in the wet on track & thank you for the complement Johnathan 👍
I'd love to see a comparison between these and my current favourite 200 treadwear tyre, Yokohama A052. What is the difference in difference in communication and steering feel. I'm looking for a tyre that prioritises driving enjoyment. Thanks for your videos!
At a guess the 52 will have been steering but the Goodyear will be way better in the wet
Yokohama 052 is a great option. If you are looking for communication and steering ferl, Continental SportContac 6 is a good option too for road use ( not circuit ).
There is always a better tyre for certain needs.
The Bridgestone is a epic road tyre I prefer the, from the PS4, they load up nicely, admittedly I would not use them as a track tyre
Nice comparison, but the fact that it's done on a Goodyear test facility track makes me question whether their compound suits the tarmac on the track they develop the tire on more.
This seems like a superb test. Let's watch.
Used F1 SS for track days and I was happy with the performance over 5x 15min stints on quite requiring track.
Another great video well done I’ll be grabbing the super sport for my next set of road wheels
As always . Fantastic video!
GoodYear is a very good tire ! I am impressed with my set of GY Assy5 😀
They make great tyres :)
Me too.
Cheers
oh yes I've been waiting for this one, need new tires for next summer
Or, does the shear amount of wear negate it from being considered a good choice?
kuru zeminde artar ama ıslak zeminde aynısını söylemeyeceğim
I have the bridgestones on my lotus exige and your findings are exactly what I saw on track. They overheat too quickly which causes significant wear.
Thanks very much fot what you do. You give a lot of information to us that are so valuable.
Thanks
wow, what an excellent comparison. wonderful job, thanks alot for this video.
SportContact 7 next please!
Amen! Question is when can they be bought in lots of sizes 😭
Hopefully by early next year you should be able to get them in lots of sizes, and yes they're very good, especially in the wet
@@tyrereviews funny enough just found out they will be available in the size I want for my FK8 too 🙌❤️😎👌✅
Any chance of the Eagle F1 Super Sport being made available in 17"? :) If not, that makes Potenza Sport (or maybe RE004) the only choice for us 17" folks seeking precise sidewalls. To be fair, I have been perfectly happy with S007A on the road (versus extremely unhappy with 17" Pilot Sport 4 non-S ST variant, they were ridiculously floaty IMO), the S007A don't seem to wear that much with road use -- it's unclear how different the Sport is to the S007A.
Somebody already compared 17“ Potenza Sport to PS4? This seems to be the only suitable UHP in this category… :,(
As the S007A is made in so few sizes I've never actually managed to test it, glad you're happy with it though and please stick a review on www.tyrereviews.com if you get the time :)
Brathahn - www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2020-Tyre-Reviews-Ultimate-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
@@tyrereviews Jonathan, I think you got the wrong article! It's not about 17" tires.
The asym 5 vs 4s test is here if you've not seen it. www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
Better is subjective. I'd rather the Cup 2 on a track day as it's better when hot, and even if the 4S out lasts it I'd personally take that extra ability from the track focused tyre
Great video as usualy... Michelin You move... This time was GoodYear so much better :)
Was really happy with the F1 Supersports when I fitted them to my RS3. I dare say I will replace the Michelin PSS on my M2 with the F1 SS when the time comes.
