Do you want what tyre is best for every day, real world driving? In this test we take eleven of the very best 205/55 R16 tyres on the market, plus a well regarded budget tyre, to see exactly what tyre performs best in the dry, wet, comfort, noise and rolling resistance tests!
It's the Tyre Reviews long overdue, 16" tyre test! The 16" tyres is the most popular size in the world, and is fitted to a large percentage of "daily" cars, so this test will hopefully be relevant to a large number of drivers!
In this test we have twelve of the most popular tyres on the market, including the multiple test winning Continental PremiumContact 6 and Michelin Primacy 4, going up against the new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2, Uniroyal RainSport 5 and BFGoodrich Advantage, with the usual tyres from Falken ze310 ecorun, Nokian wetproof, Bridgestone turanza t005, Maxxis hp5, Hankook ventus prime 3 and Goodride RP28.
All twelve tyres will be tested in dry and wet handling, dry and wet braking, aquaplaning, internal cabin noise and fuel use, and have subjective grades given to their dry and wet handling, and most importantly for this type of tyre, their comfort levels.
The overall score will be weighted as 35% dry (35% lap time, 10% subjective, 55% braking), 50% wet (35% lap time, 5% subjective, 55% braking, 5% aquaplaning), 7.5% NVH (50% internal noise, 50% comfort) and 7.5% value (80% rolling resistance, 20% price), however if you prefer qualities such as subjective dry handling over wet braking, all the data will be below to allow you to make your own purchase decision.
As always, any questions, please ask below!

Hey all. I realise this much data is a lot to take in, and can only be told in one way. I've tried to be as open and honest as possible with how these tests are scored, but if you want more information I really suggest using the article on the website to make your own buying choice based on the data:
    www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2020-Tyre-Reviews-Ultimate-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
There's also loads of other tests on the Tyre Reviews website, and user reviews, so you can make the right choice for your own priorities based on multiple information sources :)

I think you timed the video completely wrong.
It's the middle of summer, most people already bought summer tires if they needed them.
Now is the time for all-season or winter tyres. Or high-performance ones. Or some fun stuff.

It would be genuinely interesting to see a comparison between a company's sports tyre and their everyday tyre where they overlap in sizes - eg Primacy 4 vs PS4 in 225/45/17 - or Efficient grip vs Eagle. We could see the performance advantage and also what the trade offs are.

I've been running Contis on my last 2 cars and find them excellent in all areas bar noise and comfort (they're certainly not bad, but I do notice the noise, especially on poorer surfaces and the ride can be a bit harsh over rougher roads), so your findings match my experience. Excellent test and reviews.
Falken have come on in leaps and bounds, tried a set on a family hard driven Civic, so good were the reports i stuck a set of ZE914's on the family Forester XT (rather pricey size of 215/55 x 17), very pleased indeed especially as they were anything up to £50 a tyre cheaper than the mainstream makes at the time, can be balanced through fast corners on the throttle and they don't budge come rain or shine, they won't see winter use so can't comment on that because we have a second set of wheels and tyres for the season, could be a little quieter on rough roads but no complaints, Forester is hardly the most soundproofed car out there.

I was thinking about falkens already. Now i use Hankook Ventus Prime 3 and when it was new about 8mm it behaved really well on dry and wet in my opinion, now after 2 years and 23 000 km and 5mm left on them I feel more sliding on high speed corners on dry but without ESP reaction, but comparing new one to 5mm on wet it is turning ESP much quicker. Braking efficiency decreased also, the most on wet with a lot of ABS reaction. In 2018 test it was Tire number One. Now it is not. Maybe it something with rubber mixture compared to its price and time (2 years of driving already). Of course it is not that bad at all but im searching for something else, still looking for my favourite Brand, Hankook is much better than Matadors, CEAT, Paxaro, Debica and SAVA I used. Now I have recognized that Hankook is already a Premium Brand.

Amazing dry grip and handling (car feels like it's on rails over my previous Japanese tyres, yet to test it in the wet), also there is a significant increase in comfort when going over microbumps in the road as well as noise levels. With the Michelin and the Bridgestone maybe, just MAYBE, they felt so nice and comfy that made you less critical and not really pushing them in a lap. To me that's a nice road tyre. Just a hypothesis on my part. Currently I'm running the Hankook Ventus Prime 3 in 195/50R15 configurations. Felt really true on straight line. Awesome yet again! 🙂 This almost confirms my experience with a few tyres. My dad had Pirelli Cinturato P7s on his car. Was noisier and less smooth and grippy in the wet. Change to Continental Premium Contact and the difference was startling. It was so smooth and quiet. My mom's car came with Michelin Primacys. It had good wet grip but became noisier the older it got. It did make the car feel very darty though. We replaced it with Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance and it is a quiet tyre with good wet grip but the car does not feel as darty as before and it sometimes makes a weird resonant noise depending on surface. It also looks flat even when it is not. Strange but we all noticed it. It bulges out more.
As an aside, my car has Pirelli P Zeros which I can not wait to get rid of. Wet grip is awful, it is noisy and makes a lot of noises over ridges and bumps, lots of thumping and when the tyres are cold, the rear wheels just go out of control. It may have something to do with the 640nm of torque but when it is hot it grips much better. Not a fan of Pirelli.

I agree. I feel like I have double the grip and performance on my car, even with the budget General tires, then the hockey-Puck-material Cinturato P7s that came off. Smooth and wet concrete was basically black ice with those deathtraps.

@@FrankieShovels I got just shy of 72,000 miles on the Pirelli P7 Cinturano All Season Plus on my 2014 VW Passat.
Agreed wet grip isn't great. Awareness negates crashes if common sense is used.
Disclaimer. I monitor and maintain the cold tire pressure every couple of weeks, rotate at regular intervals. Of course an excellent wheel alignment by my VW master tech.
Just bought the P7 AS PLUS II. Only a couple of hundred miles. So far so good. Hopefully I'll get great wear and improved wet grip with this new iteration of the P7 Cinturano as plus II.

As much as I love the test in general, I can't go past the fact that you took 91H from Michelin, whereas others were 'at least' V. Not much of a difference, however... perhaps significant enough to have a slightly better subjective handling notes. Presumably H and V might have marginal differences in terms of sidewalls or even the thread behaviour. Awesome test - really! Just gave more trouble picking a replacement for my Sport Maxx RT. This time I'm aiming at the comfort and am close on picking one of these tested here. Thinking of Primacy 4 or EGP2 I just bumped on the fact that different indexes were used in the test. Only, tiny little imperfection here :) Thanks for the awesome tests mate! Helped me before with previous sets, helping this year with a new one as well.

@@tyrereviews Thanks a mil! I'll take your word and experience on it. If Primacy 4 H and V have no structural differences to affect handling (there is 0,04 kg weight difference between them though), then I know what to expect. Still a bit lost now. Primacy 4 vs Pilot Sport 4 for Ford Focus without any track / sporty aspirations (yet with a bit stiffer, 1-1,5 cm lowered 'sport suspension package'), as this is a second car in the family - more comfort and safe ride oriented. Just the fact that I'm switching from Dunlop Sport Max RT keeps me a bit worried if Primacy won't feel too sluggish for a change (205/55/R16 as tested). And there's EGP2 now as well. And my Dunlops were ridiculously quiet for performance tyres. Even on the label they had 67 dB outside, while no other tyre in this test has that. Primacy 68 dB, EGP2 69 dB, PS4 70 dB.
Maaan it's so hard to pick the universal touring set for weekend hairpins (from the city to the marina) and holiday cruises now :) It's so much easier to decide when one 'plays it dumb' and doesn't have that knowledge that you feed us with here :) The more you learn, the more difficult the choice is.

Cheap tyre but better in handling than a pzero nero gt it has more grip when you are already in a turn than the pirelli, it makes you want to go faster in that turn, a little soft will not last as a pzero and being that it is soft it has a little bit of mushiness with the sterring wheel at dead centre but overall it is a great tyre if you want to spend less money and the sidewall and contact pattern looks good.
Wet handling and breaking are better that the pzero nero gt and gives you a nice feeling, you can tell when it will loose grip and you can correct pretty well.
