I like how we're learning the camera WITH him 😂 Makes me feel less bad about myself because I'm a beginner to canon and was looking for a brief video on the 60D lol
"C" shooting mode - let's you save a "custom" settings in the camera that you can quickly roll back to, e.g. your "studio" setup. Same as the C1,C2,C3 on the 5D+ series or U1,U2 on Nikon D7000.
@JaredPolin C Mode is basically just a custom mode. You could make it TV, AV or M with specific settings like exposure compensation, picture styles, white balance etc. So instead of going to M/AV/TV mode and manually selecting all the different settings you want via the menu, you just save the frequently used settings, register them to the C mode and you are good to go.
this one the 60D, one of the best cameras ive had. i got mine yesterday with a 50mm 1.8 and 17-40L all used for $1400, not bad at all, the camera was $580 refurb its like a brand new one.
Awesome video, love the way you don't skip the basic stuff. I've got a 60D coming this week and I'm a (relative) beginner. Don't stop the free flow method of making these videos.
This man is funny as hell to me I love his narrative he is so nonchalant and not intentionally trying to be funny he is just being himself but I love how he explains things lol, it’s so much better than the dragged out videos I have been seeing on here!!!
Just Brought This Camera, First DSLR so very happy with it. One of the most helpful tutorials, the others are rather boring and hard to listen due to there entertainment value, Good work!
@JaredPolin C mode is a user mode... it means you can program all the settings to what ever you want and quickly go to them. example: if your at a concert or something and the lights make a big change you can quickly go to this C mode and not have to try to quickly change ISO, or aperture.
@JaredPolin as far as I know the C stands for custom mode. So you can set it to be the way you like. You can for example pre set that mode for certain light or make it a second Av mode or something.
C mode is custom mode. it means you can change what the camera does. All the buttons you talked about here can be changed in this mode...the slider mode can then be chaged around so the shutter priority switch can be changed from the front to the back slider --for those that don't like where it is located. I'm a pentax user and they call this feature User. Its sort of changing the factory setting of the camera to suit the way the user wants it. hopefully you understood this. cheers
I didnt read all comments, so I dont know if someone said anything about AF-On. I think it is a nice thing if u dont want to measure focus and light for every shot u can lock it by pressing AF-ON and than just focus on framing. I dont use it often, but it can come handy when u need it.
@JaredPolin C mode is actually a Custom Mode you can define so it is easier to have your settings ready to shoot. What I understood: it is P mode where you can define your custom settings including if shooting RAW/JPEG and so on. You can even change button layout for this mode individually... But I never used it so far.
As a former Canon shooter, I know what the C-mode is. It is something like the Custom setting bank in the Nikon D3s I have now. The Canon 40D I had before had the Modes C1-C3 where I could save various settings for different shooting situations.
@sunnyscoots You know that f-number? That's how wide the opening of the lens is, controlling how much light is let in through the lens and the depth of the bokeh in a background. The lower the aperture number, the wider open the lens is, and vice versa.
@MsClockSpeed if you cant afford the 60D try he T2i / 550D. Its a great camera as well. Doesnt have the rotating screen but does full 1080p video and the 18M images like the 60D. 60D is more pro-sumer level but the T2i has most of the features as the 7D and 60D built in. Then you can upgrade later when you can afford it.
Love the video. Just got the camera and you've got me up and running faster than if I took the time to read the manual... And i'd love to have hair like that
@JaredPolin C is Custom! You can save ur settings on C, so u only have to turn to C and ull get ur saved settings! Just like on the 7d, c1,c2 and c3 ;)
@JaredPolin in the C mode you can create a preset, e.g. containing a specific shutter speed, aperture and ISO, but also different focus modes, exposure metering and so on... more infos about that button should be in the users manual on page 262 (at least it is at that page in the german version)
The 60D is larger and heavier than the T2i but smaller and lighter than the 7D. It is a very nice size, weight, feel, and design that should be comfortable for most users. I got it on: #amzn.to/1c5b7js
@officiallyEPIC1998 Actually he is correct. in 60D you have to press the live view button to start recording in video mode. if you press the regular shutter button it only takes a still picture..
@9:02 - the checkerboard button on the back side next to the + / - buttons is for when reviewing pix, you can see 1 at a time, or 9 at a time or page at a time so you can then quickly scroll thru pix by pix or page by page to get to the ones you want to review/play.
Great Great! I just bought a Canon 60D and needed a walkthrough on the buttons. I think its great that you can find help to everything on youtube.. Thanks, great video! :) Jesper/Denmark
'C' mode is custom mode. It's where you access your saved favourite shooting mode settings from other shoot modes, like Tv, P, and Av after you've saved your settings, I believe.
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm a newbie amateur photographer and just recently bought a 60D myself, your tutorial helped me a lot. Thanks for using using layman's term in explaining each and every button in the camera! You earned yourself another subscriber! :D
Nominally.... to the naked eye the video differences are more dependent on skill and glass I find..... The 7D is no better on video, but does have better focus abilities, and the 70D of course just replaced the 60D so it had better be better I might get one of those for the AF possibilities :)
for image/video quality the 60d/70d/7d are practically the same give or take the slightest difference. But given the type of person in the market for this sort of camera is really going to be fussed, they will most likely not even notice a difference! The 70d with the sigma 18-35mm is an unbeatable combo the auto focus during video is incredible most definitely worth the upgrade. :)
Star button locks the exposure, say if you're doing a panorama using high-speed shutter and you don't want the exposure to change as you take a number of pictures.
@boyraai I had the same problem. The issue was with the memory card. I was using an 8gb class 4 card, which basically can't take the data fast enough. I switched to a class 10 card and it works a treat. Basically, you need as fast a memory card as you can get!
@JaredPolin im with u i work hard for my cannon 60D it took me 5 month to get it making money in thiferent things and if i lost my camera i would cry like a baby, so plz try to do the correct thanks.
C mode is custom exposure mode. You can set your settings to what you what then register them to C. That way you can quickly go back those settings when you select the C mode.
star/snowflakesign on back upper right corner is for "Auto Expose Lock" -function (working in creative mode, other than "M") where you can lock your AE for something bright and then take a pic of something dark or vice versa.
I like your caption pictures at the top right... would help if you circle/highlight the buttons you're talking about, especially when there are multiple buttons in the pictures
I have the T2i / 550D but now think I should have gotten this 60D as it as the built in wireless flash triggering for off camera flash, and of course the swivel screen
On Canon "C" mode on dial stands for Camera User Settings which you can find in menu in any semi auto or manual modes and you can just save the camera settings so u can use that setting when dial is on "C". You mentioned in this video that you dont know what that C stands for.
Canon Av and Tv modes means appereture and time value, bulb mode is nice coz you do not have to turn the dial to 30sec in other modes and one more to bulb like e. g. on 550D ..
Nice walk-through Jared. The vari-angle screen also comes in real handy when you use it to film yourself, like a UA-cam video. Makes it easy to see if everything is in focus and to see if what you want in the frame is in the frame. I hope you have time to really put the 60D through it 's paces, and give your opinion on whether this is a good entry level camera.
@ 10:50 when attaching/aligning your lens to camera, the red dot on lens should match to the red dot on camera and white dot on lens to white dot on camera. The non crop sensor lenses (EF) use the red dot and the cropped sensor only lenses(EF-S) use the white dots. Dont line up red to white or white to red or else your camera/lens wont work properly! MyT2i has both red and white dots on the lens mount face of the camera so the 60D should be the same.
This is the most expensive camera I've own so far. Good photos but a lot of times I get outcome that I don't like. For example if I take a picture of 2 person, one person is clear and the other is blur. I like using the Auto without flash because the photo is comes out nicer in colour. Any tip?
hey jared ! nice tutorial for the beginners out there... but i spotted one small mistake haha when you put the lens back on, you said "you line the white dot with the red dot"... the white dot is only for the EF-S lenses, the red dot is only for the EF lenses... so you need to line up the white dot on the body with the white dot on the lens or the red dot with the red dot ;-)
how is battery life? and how about storage endurance do you need to recharge every few days or can you let it sit for a month and still have juice to shoot?
@boyraai same goes for me... it might be our memory card. might be too slow. Even though I use Class 10 memory cards. But it does shut off after a few seconds. I have to keep recording over and over 2-3 times till it won't shut off.
@JaredPolin Hi Jared I think it's the same as create auto (CA) on the 50D and 7D. if so I think its basically a dummies aperture control using a sliding scale. a couple of other functions too without the technicalities of having understand aperture etc.
@JaredPolin Hey Jared. I believe the C mode is a custom manual mode for the camera. I don't have the 60d but I have the 550d or Rebel T2i as its known here in the states. It has a C1 and C2 mode which saves your camera settings such as white bal. and my Exposure/Aperture. According to online sources they say that that C mode in the 60d is the same thing. Hope this helps, thanks for doing this review. I'm a Canon guy but love what NIkon does too! Cheers!
@TheDigitalPhotograph Yup I really don't like the auto mode cuz its usually darker even with the flash out. I'm still trying to figure out the stuff you mentioned. Maybe some fine day I'll master it =)
I think Canon watered down a lot of the professional features from the 50d to not take sales away from the 7d. But then they added a locking control dial, which in my opinion should be reserved for beefy action cameras that will be moving around a lot. Crazy Canon!!!

the ISO is basically the sensor's sensibility to light. The higher the ISO, the bigger the little dots (pixels) get on the sensor, allowing for the picture to look brighter even though there's not much light at all in the room/enviroment you are shooting in. You'll find yourself changing the ISO depending on the amount of available light that the enviroment you are at offers you. The only downside to higher ISO numbers is that it lowers the quality of the image.
@dancingduckxo how do u like it? I have it as well and I love it! I've heard though that a lot of people hate it and the call it a super rebel. But to me coming from a kodak point and shoot any dslr is awesom

Okay, I'm sure you allready know what the C-mode is... but if not - on my camera it is called the "custom-mode". you can do some settings and save this in this mode for next time.
Too late to film Part 2? Woopsie
Youve got to be kidding me XD
ITS BEEN 8 YEARS JARED. 8. YEARS.
You could've at least waited until 2021 so it's been a nice 10 years.
Been waiting 8 long years for it, you should at least do it for a pun, still got it rockin' on a shelf
part 2 plz
Eos 60d in 2019 vid plss :D
I like how we're learning the camera WITH him 😂 Makes me feel less bad about myself because I'm a beginner to canon and was looking for a brief video on the 60D lol
Still waiting for part 2 over five years later.
Surely OP will deliver.
Me too!!
qmriis lool
He realized he had no idea wtf he was talking about.
Will there be a part two??
Still waiting.

"Save your favorite settings using C-mode"
You can read more about C-mode on page 262 of the 60D manual ;)
TV - Time Value
AV - Aperture Value
C - Custom Mode
C-mode is 'custom'. You set all your settings, then go into the menu and basically click 'save', and C mode is those saved settings.
its almost 2018...still waiting for part 2 hurry up
I am in 2019,lol
2021 here lmo
almost 2022 2 months lol
Thanks for some tips on the Canon 60D. Just bought mine a week ago. Not bad for a 10 year old camera
this one the 60D, one of the best cameras ive had. i got mine yesterday with a 50mm 1.8 and 17-40L all used for $1400, not bad at all, the camera was $580 refurb its like a brand new one.
I was so confused on how to work this camera. just rented it from my school. The worst part was learning how to turn the dial. thank you so much.
Awesome video, love the way you don't skip the basic stuff. I've got a 60D coming this week and I'm a (relative) beginner. Don't stop the free flow method of making these videos.

I've been shooting for years off and on.... a 60D is one helluva starter camera, it is Canon's highest non full-frame offering.
70d or 7d is better than 60d...

I’m in a photography class and they gave us these cameras thanks for the information

Do you have a video explaining how to use the program the camera comes with?
Where is part 2? I have looked all over and have not found it. The link in the annotation does nothing at this time. Hope to see part 2 soon.
@yolapinky On most DSLR's its a format you can take your picture in. Google search raw picture format for more info.
@xxhtwndevaxx im sorry, if you found someones lost camera the right thing to do is try and return it, i cant help u if its not ur camera.
Av is for "Aperture Value" on canon cameras. Just like Tv is "Time Value" etc.
Also the button with the star lets you lock the exposure, very good for panoramic photos
I think Canon watered down a lot of the professional features from the 50d to not take sales away from the 7d. But then they added a locking control dial, which in my opinion should be reserved for beefy action cameras that will be moving around a lot. Crazy Canon!!!
Who here in 2024, checking back daily to see if part 2 is uploaded yet? Can't wait to try this camera out
C should be custom mode, you can save your settings for whatever type of shot you want to take later.
C mode is your Custom mode for Canon a mode for which you can set your own presets.. :)
@xxhtwndevaxx the persons info may be in each file, id call the station where you found it and than call the police and let them know u found it so that the owner can get it back. Its the right thing to do.
just bought a canon 60d and learning. it....Thanks for your help and you seem like a real kool guy!
@tannu99
i'm using PAL, but then after u told me so, i just changed it to NTSC and i can find @30fps... thanks dude... btw,, what are the difference between PAL and NTSC??? thanks again dude...:)
should i go for a two week program of directing school for 1.600 or should i buy this camera
Im quite happy you've started rewieving canon.
the ISO is basically the sensor's sensibility to light.
@jukklies cool thanks, how about that C mode?
opening and closing of the lens to adjust how much light comes in.
@dancingduckxo how do u like it? I have it as well and I love it! I've heard though that a lot of people hate it and the call it a super rebel. But to me coming from a kodak point and shoot any dslr is awesom
What lens do you recommend for shooting cars and a short, medium, and long distance?
How can you connect the camera with you're phone? There is an app for it but I have no idea how to do it
Love the videos, but when is part 2 going to be published?!?!?
@sonygirl10
Incase you didn't know, This isnt a video review. This is a Tutorial. The video was meant to show people who don't know how to use it, How to use it properly. So unless you read the title, and interpreted it properly, I'd advise you to shut your trap.
the "C" is for custom. you can save preset settings there...
@Boardcasty You are just 1 person, I can say that just about every photography studio i have been in has a mac.
When i wanna do burst mode, do i just use M or is there another setting for that?
when is video number 2 coming? I am past looking at the pictures on the dial...
@ilathe2 i think he has them custom made and sells them on his site
Okay, I'm sure you allready know what the C-mode is... but if not - on my camera it is called the "custom-mode". you can do some settings and save this in this mode for next time.
C-mode allows you to save your favorite settings.
@haji727 there is plenty of 7000 stuff coming.
Clicking on the box doesn't pull up 2nd video. ??
how do i enable my alo option? i disabled it and Ive shot some images in raw that I need to process
thanks froman!
