I like skating indys with the forged baseplate (53.5 mm high) with risers and 58mm wheels. Gives me a little more speed than riding standards height indys (55mm high) with 56mm wheels. The pop feels the same on both. No ghost pop when switching between setups.
I'm skating a set of these on a Krooked Ray Barbee and 53mm OJ Elites. They're good trucks. I've been skating Independent trucks for decades, and I was a bit bummed on these. They don't turn like a set of stage 11's.
@@NHSSkateDirect looks like you can buy the forged hollow mids on your website. Will the forged inverted baseplate be sold separately like the non forged inverted kingpin baseplate?
Mine got loose from the insert i had to give them away, im just a newbie i can't even Ollie up a curve and in less than a year the wiggly king pin was a like the king pin from the Walmart Tony hawk board with the metal trucks, i ended up buying regular king pin trucks
I have the og Stage 11 Mids from 2012 or whenever. Not sure about the turning thing cause i keep them tight af lol Rear tighter than the front for better balance (since i'm 46). As for those VS a newer Indy Mid (Reynolds, Lemos etc...) They definitely seem to "handle" better.
I really do think Truck companies should sell a separate Hangers.coz that gets mostly abused.been thinkin bout that for years, but thats just my opinion.. Cheers Ron
If you add 1/8" risers to a pair of mids the total height should be 55.18 mm. Beyond the inverted kingpin, what would be the benefits of mids over standards in that scenario?
Since the geometry and turn are the same, the benefit would be the inverted kingpin and the option to remove that riser and go lower. You can always add risers to make a truck higher but you can't make it lower.
All are right at the 52mm height. I haven't skated much on Ace or Destructo. From what I hear it sounds like the Ace's might turn a little sharper than the Indy mids and the Destructo slightly slower.
Love my stage 11 144 hollows...my dream truck is an indy w a forged baseplate, the inverted kingpin and titanium axlerod. Take my money. Switched to indy after biting on thunders too much..even on 50s...never goin back.
You had me at dream truck. So here's what I can say about that combination: There will be forged, titanium axle mids coming out in 2021 and those will have the inverted kingpin. The baseplate/shaft nut combo will be available in Spring 21. Those can be used with the standard hangers but are not forged. So far I have not heard of an upcoming forged, titanium standard with the inverted kingpin. I'll check on that and let you know. -Ron
Sorry to hear that. There is a chance if you over tighten them you can get to the point where the threads end. If they tighten to a point and it won't go any further you might be there. If the bushings are new I'd suggest loosening them a little to let the bushings break in and stiffen up. Then tighten them. If you just can't get them tight enough you might want to get some harder cushions. Indy makes a bunch of different hardnesses.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass that along. Later this year Indy will be releasing mids with forged baseplates and those will be almost as low (50.5mm tall) as the 2013 lows.
I’m gonna buy some 159 mids for my 8.8 stump so I can tell the homies about the shaft nut. Also just because they seem rad. But Ron makes everything seem rad. He’s a rad dude.
Hi Ron, great video! I’m skating the Boats 8.8 shape with 159 Hollow’s, 1/8 risers, and 54mm Nomads. If I switched only the trucks to the Mid’s and left everything else, would it still give me more pop? Or could I get away with either eliminating the risers or switching to the 53mm Nomads and keep the risers? I’m 45 years old and still trying to keep a smoother ride for my feet .
Thanks! Yes. Those changes would lower the contact point and get your tail to the ground sooner. Taking out the risers will make the biggest difference (1/8" = 3.175mm), switching to mids will lower it 1.5mm and the wheels would be the slightest change at 1mm, especially depending on how long you've ridden those 54's and if they've worn down.
Any thoughts on the indies vs ace on carving. Always hear good thing about the way Ace’s carve. I got the indie stage 11 149 titanium on my 8.5. I may set up a 8.75 next. So I would either go with these 11s in 159 or try the aces.
@@NHSSkateDirect Forged mid hollow are a little lower than the regular hollows right? But guys I'm already 32, I need these titanium mids NOW😅😆! What about only the Inverted Kingpin baseplate? Will there be a lighter version to buy and when?
My issue is I'm not tiago, so I could not get over the weight. The hollow is not enough of difference and then the forged are lighter but then it's a low truck and not a mid.
Will the inverted kingpin base plate come in 6 hole for us old school deck guys? I’m gonna push for 159 to come standard with 6 hole baseplates. Especially the forged base plates
Sorry but it doesn't look like the inverted kingpin will be available on the 6 hole baseplates. Not sure why. I'll pass along your feedback, we appreciate it for sure.
56mm and up. Type of wheels I ride. Really want to try a set of mids on my Mike V reissue. (Sorry for mentioning the competition. But best believe I have a Mike Conroy crystal ball reissue in my quiver, a Winkowski Bird Cage that's worth too much to set up, and a 9in Creature stumps on 159 indy hollows with 55mm Mini Hot Juice as my everyday commuter board!) I mention this because I'm going with 60mm wheels on the reissue. But I really want to push myself with getting higher pops on my Ollie's. Mids look great for this. I really wish indy made half inch risers. Does any other brand in the NHS fam make half inch risers?
Those are some sweet setups for sure. Mike Conroy was one of my favorite vert skaters. I heard he would show up to the ramp in cowboy boots and change into his skate shoes. It doesn't look like any of our brands make the 1/2 inch risers. We usually suggest getting 2 packs of 1/4 inch and stacking. Or 4 packs of 1/8 inch in case you want to add/remove 1/8th at a time to fine tune. Or you could do one 1/4" riser plus two 1/8" riser to add up to 1/2" (multiply that last combo by 2 because you have 2 trucks) OJ is releasing new 3/8 risers around the end of March called Juice Cubes. They're orange and have a little more softness and rebound than a regular hard plastic riser. So they'll have a bit of that dampening effect that shock pads have.
@@NHSSkateDirect Wow, thanks for the reply brother. And those juice cubes sound absolutely perfect for my style! I like to keep my set ups under one umbrella. My OCD is horrible like that. So this is GREAT news. And, um... whoever this may be... can you please pass along a message to the higher ups that they should seriously consider another Mike Conroy crystal ball reissue drop??? (That board and graphic has such significant meaning to me, dating back to my childhood up until 4 years ago when I got back into skating after a 20 year hiatus)
is the indy mids baseplate same as the aftermarket inverted king pin baseplate? I wanna swap the 6 hole from 159 indy mids with the after market IKP baseplate..
Would the height of the mids help you pop better on a board with steep kicks like FA and Hockey boards? Thanks, just want to know before trying them out
Yes. A lower truck will make the tail hit easier and would offset a deck with a super steep tail. If you want your board to pop at a steep angle then get tall trucks, bigger wheels/risers, steep concave. If you want you tail to pop right away without having to get the nose up really high/steep angle then get lower trucks, smaller wheels and flat concave. Or you can combine some of them to sort of even if it out to a "normal" pop angle.
An important question to ask. I was thinking if the nylon lock in the shaft nut get loosened up easily after daily use? As it seems like there is no way to replace that nut inside.thanks 🙏🏻
Good question. The nylon should last a long time even if you loosen and tighten often. The nylon isn't exposed to damage like a regular kingpin. If somehow they do loosen (they shouldn't) they'll be covered by warranty.
hey ron, i just bought a pair of these last week , and the inverted kingpin keeps on falling off and loosening . i've been riding indy for 16 years and loved these but this is really a waste of money ;(
We are selling the inverted kingpin and sleeve by themselves. Since the shaft nut is machine pressed into the baseplate it's sold as the IKP Baseplate Set (IKP = inverted kingpin). Those should be available any day now (3/22/21). Although if you actually break the kingpin they'll likely be covered by warranty.
Nothing wrong with that set up. You could ride the 54's on standard stage 11's without risers but if you do, you have a little extra turning room if you ride loose trucks.
Let me necro this vid. I just learned about the baseplate set a few days ago. I'm totally going to throw a 9 inch Ace AF1 hangar on it. The best of all worlds. Ace technology, with the best turning baseplate ever made, and a reversed kingpin to boot. Oh and Indy... Move back to producing back in the USA or you're going to lose your riders one by one.. We're sick of broken axles, even the titanium ones break, Chinese crap is cheap and beneath you.. Get your game back!
I have the stage 11 reynolds hollow 139, with indy 1/8 shock pad... Is this a mid truck already? Because without the shock pads i get wheel bite... And how would these pop any better than the 139 stg11 reynolds.. (the black box with white lettering and red indy logo)
The Reynolds you have would be standard height (or tall) and even a little taller with the shock pads, although shock pads usually don't raise your trucks as high as normal hard risers do. It sounds like you would need smaller wheels to go without shock pads on your current trucks or to try the mids. They don't nesc pop "better" than the standard since it depends on how steep you like your board to be when the tail or nose hits. They do pop easier since you don't have to tilt as far to get to the popping point.
It was hot 20 years ago too. But all that is left is 129s but now 7.5 boards. Or 8.5 boards but know 149 trucks. And good luck finding 144 or 139s but there are a million 8.25 and good luck finding wheels that are not 60mm or 58mm. There is one set of OJ's that there are 52mm in 99a and there gore. It's not hot it's just nothing is being shipped to Australia I blame the china communist party virus.
If the shaft nut wiggles you should hit up our warranty dept at nhsfunfactory.com/pages/warranty-policy Also, there's only so much they cam be tightened before you reach the end of the threads. You might want to get harder cushions if you can't get them tight enough.

@@NHSSkateDirect even though indys made at DLX you really be trying to sell them that hard?. indy have had their time in my opinion, it's about time we let the other truck companies have some shine rather than just the big 3.

I like skating indys with the forged baseplate (53.5 mm high) with risers and 58mm wheels. Gives me a little more speed than riding standards height indys (55mm high) with 56mm wheels.
The pop feels the same on both. No ghost pop when switching between setups.
Nice! Sounds like you've got your set up dialed in. Thanks for sharing! -Ron
Happy holidays Ron!! Been a fan since the SMA days
Thank you and happy holidays to you too! Ah, the SMA days. Thinking about Tim.
@@NHSSkateDirect yeah man he was such an inspiration.. 🙏🏼 thanks for the reply brother! 🎄
I got some 143 and love them
Great to hear! Thx for sharing.
can I change the bushings on the mids? I want to ride them with the red 88a indy bushings.
They’re also the heaviest of Indy’s
I'm skating a set of these on a Krooked Ray Barbee and 53mm OJ Elites. They're good trucks. I've been skating Independent trucks for decades, and I was a bit bummed on these. They don't turn like a set of stage 11's.
Id LOVE some forged/hollow/titanium/inverted mids
Good news. They're in the works. No exact date yet. Guessing sometime in 2023.
@@NHSSkateDirect looks like you can buy the forged hollow mids on your website. Will the forged inverted baseplate be sold separately like the non forged inverted kingpin baseplate?
Anybody use the new inverted forged mid hollow or titanium's yet? I am worried the 50.5 will be too low.
@@xXLARzXx I'm wondering the same, almost pulled the trigger on them but...too low?
Mine got loose from the insert i had to give them away, im just a newbie i can't even Ollie up a curve and in less than a year the wiggly king pin was a like the king pin from the Walmart Tony hawk board with the metal trucks, i ended up buying regular king pin trucks
thankyou so much i never knew anything about mids def gonna get a pair of 159 mids
Glad I could help! -Ron
Cheers Ron
Cheers! Thx for the feedback. I could see that happening one day, it's the one part you can't buy individually.
That would be great
Is there a reason why the cross is not on the baseplates anymore?
If you add 1/8" risers to a pair of mids the total height should be 55.18 mm. Beyond the inverted kingpin, what would be the benefits of mids over standards in that scenario?
Since the geometry and turn are the same, the benefit would be the inverted kingpin and the option to remove that riser and go lower. You can always add risers to make a truck higher but you can't make it lower.
compared to ace trucks and destructo d2 mids (both are 52mm), how well do these stack?
All are right at the 52mm height. I haven't skated much on Ace or Destructo. From what I hear it sounds like the Ace's might turn a little sharper than the Indy mids and the Destructo slightly slower.
Love my stage 11 144 hollows...my dream truck is an indy w a forged baseplate, the inverted kingpin and titanium axlerod. Take my money. Switched to indy after biting on thunders too much..even on 50s...never goin back.
Lovin whale talk ty
You had me at dream truck. So here's what I can say about that combination:
There will be forged, titanium axle mids coming out in 2021 and those will have the inverted kingpin.
The baseplate/shaft nut combo will be available in Spring 21. Those can be used with the standard hangers but are not forged.
So far I have not heard of an upcoming forged, titanium standard with the inverted kingpin. I'll check on that and let you know. -Ron
I like them but super difficult to tighten at first! Broke my unit tool, had to step on an allen wrench to use my body weight as leverage.
Indy makes a bunch of different hardnesses.
is there any magnesium indys? I want to grind anything!
Thanks for sharing, I got a lot out of this.
Make some hollow inverted base plates :)
I miss the Independent Low Trucks, year 2013..please make a Indi low again.and the Wheels 49mm.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass that along. Later this year Indy will be releasing mids with forged baseplates and those will be almost as low (50.5mm tall) as the 2013 lows.
@@NHSSkateDirect that was good news hehehe😁
@@NHSSkateDirect any word on around what month they’ll be coming out?
Where are those Forge Titaniums MIDS??? :-) Need them
I’m gonna buy some 159 mids for my 8.8 stump so I can tell the homies about the shaft nut.
Also just because they seem rad. But Ron makes everything seem rad. He’s a rad dude.
Case in point, Krux. I bought a set of K4s because of him. They weren’t for me, unfortunately.
Rad! I hope you like that set up as much as me and my friends did.
If you were to put risers on the mids, would they equal to the Indy standards height?
Yes
Hey Ron, where are those Mid forged Titaniums bruh...? @nhsskatedirect
@@NHSSkateDirect Thanks so much!
Ron what size shoe do you wear?
I’m a 14 and that 8.8 stump is sounding like a great call.
what size were you riding before? also a fellow size 14, just getting into skating.
Im waiting for the hollow version and a pro model thats coloured red😅
I have the indi mid 149s and my front truck always comes loose, does anyone know why this is ?
So it’s the hanger which changed the height?
Yes. Plus the kingpin to match the lowered hanger. The forged mids will shave another 1.5mm of the base. Those should be coming out later this year.
Thanks a lot
Any thoughts on the indies vs ace on carving. Always hear good thing about the way Ace’s carve. I got the indie stage 11 149 titanium on my 8.5. I may set up a 8.75 next. So I would either go with these 11s in 159 or try the aces.
I haven't skated Ace's but I have heard that turn a little sharper than Indy's. I'd say both will carve great but Ace might be a little quicker.
Bones bushings will fit on the mids?
Yes. They have the same cushion size as the standards and Bones cushions will fit.
I want the inverted kingpin baseplate but the light and low version of the titanium Indys, just with an inverted kingpin.
Please give me that ok :) ?
There are plans for Titanium Mids but not until 2023. Mid Hollows will be coming out this year and Forged Mid Hollows in 2022.
@@NHSSkateDirect Forged mid hollow are a little lower than the regular hollows right? But guys I'm already 32, I need these titanium mids NOW😅😆!
What about only the Inverted Kingpin baseplate? Will there be a lighter version to buy and when?
It's almost the end of 2021, where them titanium mids at?!?!?!
Right now it looks like the Forged Mids will be coming out this spring and Titanium Mids are looking like 2023.
My issue is I'm not tiago, so I could not get over the weight. The hollow is not enough of difference and then the forged are lighter but then it's a low truck and not a mid.
Some may say, get the forged mids and use small riser. Then defeats the purpose of trying to get lighter by adding more parts weight.
Or you could do one 1/4" riser plus two 1/8" riser to add up to 1/2"
(multiply that last combo by 2 because you have 2 trucks)
OJ is releasing new 3/8 risers around the end of March called Juice Cubes.
Yes, same exact baseplate
Would the height of the mids help you pop better on a board with steep kicks like FA and Hockey boards? Thanks, just want to know before trying them out
Yes. A lower truck will make the tail hit easier and would offset a deck with a super steep tail. If you want your board to pop at a steep angle then get tall trucks, bigger wheels/risers, steep concave.
If you want you tail to pop right away without having to get the nose up really high/steep angle then get lower trucks, smaller wheels and flat concave.
Or you can combine some of them to sort of even if it out to a "normal" pop angle.
Will a hanger from a 144 standard swapped to the mid baseplate achieve exact mid ride height of 52mm? Or is only a new mid hanger?
The Mid is a different hanger, that’s how it gets the lower height, yet they beefed it up as to why it’s heavier than standard.
If somehow they do loosen (they shouldn't) they'll be covered by warranty.
hey ron, i just bought a pair of these last week ,
and the inverted kingpin keeps on falling off and loosening .
i've been riding indy for 16 years and loved these but this is really a waste of money ;(
Are you going to sell aftermarket forged baseplates?
Sorry but there are no current plans to sell the forged baseplates by themselves.
I support the trucks and the idea here but the audio is not synced with the video. It looks like a Godzilla movie translated to English.
What happens if you break the kingpin? Are you gonna sell that sleeve and the inverted kingpin?
We are selling the inverted kingpin and sleeve by themselves. Since the shaft nut is machine pressed into the baseplate it's sold as the IKP Baseplate Set (IKP = inverted kingpin). Those should be available any day now (3/22/21).
Although if you actually break the kingpin they'll likely be covered by warranty.
@@NHSSkateDirect Indys have a warranty? Shit, here I've been going through the drama of replacing a kingpin every summer.
im between this ones and some hollow indys for street... any opinions?
For street, I'd go with the mids. Either will work but the mids were designed as a street truck.
@@NHSSkateDirect to late for that :c.... ive been enjoying the hollows very much though. Thanks for the answer!!

What truck company did Ron used to run?
I was the Krux brand manager and sometimes team manager. -Ron
Dees shaft nutz
I still miss my Furys
maybe i have my setup wrong i use indy stage 11 standards with 1/8 riser and 54mm wheels
Nothing wrong with that set up. You could ride the 54's on standard stage 11's without risers but if you do, you have a little extra turning room if you ride loose trucks.
Why isn’t there a logo on my front of my mid trucks?
You have a more recent version without the logo. That's the only difference between the 2.

2021... I need to watch my mouth.
Right off the bat I noticed the wheels are entirely too small for that setup.....skate fast...man...
No. In 1992 pros rode 8.75 decks with wheels smaller than 42mm
first comment, free trucks!!! love u Whale!
Yeah. Whale is great. Shaft nut.
Thank you! Happy holidays!
Is it just me or is the audio sync out of whack?
Thanks for letting us know. I'll work on that. -Ron
make these in hollow
Hollow Reynolds pro mids coming later this summer. It looks like the silver non-pro hollow version should be out around fall/holiday.
@@NHSSkateDirect that is an instant buy for me!
did they just bring back the stage 10 lows add a new kingpin and call them mids? thats my guess
Nope. They're a new design because those lows didn't turn like the standard and were a bit too low.

If you dont live in America you might have to wait and tell 2030 when stock gets shipped.
Hopefully sooner than then. Skateboarding is hot right now!

If the shaft nut wiggles you should hit up our warranty dept at nhsfunfactory.com/pages/warranty-policy
Also, there's only so much they cam be tightened before you reach the end of the threads. You might want to get harder cushions if you can't get them tight enough.
