Yeah so true. I keep switching different board sizes, wheels and trucks a bunch lately. And it's pretty much hurting my learning to skate. I'm probably going to get the 159 mids and put the Kreeper kingpin on them. It's the lowest kingpin I've ever used and I have two brand new sets just chillin in my random parts. It looks like there's almost an inch of grind clearance on my 169s with those on them.

When I started skating in the late 80s I guess, we used to always invert the kingpins ourselves. Back in those days the kingpins were just like a normal bolt with a hex-shaped head which was the bit that locked into the baseplate. Seemed to work great, but the bottom of the bolt did extend past the bottom of the baseplate and would gouge into the board somewhat, and probably caused my boards to crack because they used to crack a lot.

Yeah, I was thinking the baseplate on a nice standard would be golden! Did you happen to just see how the standard hanger fit and looked on the new plates?
The design is also different , they’ve sharpened some edges , lowered the axle , dug the bottom of the bushing housing.. they wobble as hell with og bushing if you bomb hills and there’s no way to tight them enough, I suggest mid hard bushings
Always love your input Ben. Just ordered them with the intention of changing the hanger to the 55mm height with new baseplate and kingpin. I’m eager to see if kingpin clearance changes

Another awesome review, thanks Ben. So Indy now offers 52mm height in a heavier truck with less kingpin clearance? Ummm cool, so when does the Titanium Mid drop?
Thanks for review Ben !was expecting good clearance from kingpin is'nt this why everyone is so hyped about them? Going to give em a miss stick with 144 hollows .I have fitted old grind king kingpins which work well and give proper clearance only snag is you have to jam nut in baseplate with metal and superglue . Can't understand why indy haven't thought this through with the kingpin clearance maybe could have got rid of washer and incorporated it in kingpin.
it's very strange for me to watch you skate. Maybe because I came from your carpentry channel? Who knows, either way I like your style, you're graceful with a lot of your tricks.
@@bendegros thanks IMMENSELY for doing so!!!! It's the PERFECT track to take me from skating to a dinner party WITHOUT changing SONGS!!! (Even my GIRL likes it!!)
So the mids have the standard bushings? Can't wait until Tuesday when my 159 mids come in. Probably going to switch my bushings with the bones mediums if they're the same bushing size as standards.
The wider thunders (148 and up) are 52mm with the cast bp’s and 51mm with the forged bp’s. 147’s and lower are 50mm with the cast bp’s and 49mm with the forged ones.
I’ve had some horrible luck with Indy stock bushings myself, replaced them out with Indys again and had same issue. Almost as if they were blown out. Anyways I replaced them with Riptide Bushings and they are amazing. Flat spot in Vancouver has a ton of them to choose from.
I'm liking the geometry and them being lower. And thankfully lockdown has just ended here in Melbourne yesterday, so my local skateshop should be open on Fri when I head into the CBD . Fingers crossed they'll have a lovely amount of stock to choose from.
Crazy my local skateshop here in los angeles never closed because he sells a few bike parts so he was considered essential. He only really has helmets and bike bells.
@@destroyerdestroy87 That's awesome DH , I've always ridden bikes, before I started skating, & before I got my licence for those horrid wet days. But things got so shut down here my local bike shop (who'd been in business for 15+ yrs), had to permanently close his shop as here it wasn't deemed essential. Hopefully he'll be able to set up somewhere else soon for his sake. Tis weird, I've not run bald tyres(bike), & nursed bearings & boards along since I was 15yrs old.🙁 Probably one of the only things that makes me appreciate being older. I hope you're fairing better in your town my friend. Keep on rolling, & be well.🙂 ○(--
I think it just depends on the shape of the board, I have never really been a fan of Indy’s, always thought they were too tall and heavy, but the 144 Indy Mids on an 8.25 primitive board feel really nice for me. Used to do 148 thunders but the pop felt shallow and too light. The Indy Mids make it have a easy pop but still have decent leverage
Yo I’ve been watching for a few months already and I finally subscribed as I was always watching on my laptop 👨💻 so I decided to follow you on my phone 📱 I love your videos 😎
New independent mid trucks features a lower profile hanger for optimal contact point angle on your nose and tail for flip tricks , ledges and all around street skating with 53m size wheel. The newly design and first ever independent inverted kingpin can be use with allen key and hex wrench . The innovative new shaft nut In the base plate creates a rigid and durable solution to lateral movement found in most inverted kingpin designs and increases adjustability .the new mid 52 tall with full cushions for maximum turning actions and comes 129,139,144,149,159 size
@Ondrya Wolfson I haven’t heard them mention that specifically but I’m sure eventually. It’ll be a little bit of a Frankenstein truck but youll have even more truck to grind since I’ll put a regular “high” hanger.
Errrr.... I was going to ask, are they the same height as the forged hollows. Then I checked and you already have a video on those... but I could not tell if they were 139s or 144s.... I really think that the forged hollows are 53.5.... my head hurts, maybe I’m getting in to it way to much.... I know what it is, I got the indys in 144, cause the decks were all 8.25....I do have another setup with tensor geo mag solids in 5.25”, for my 8.0 mini logo decks.... And I really think that the indys are better and I wish I had them in 139, so I could just go back to 8” decks....ahhhhhh
So i went with 144 reynolds hollows, BC i already have 2 sets of venture 6.1s and wanted to size down from 8.75" on 8.38 decks. They wheel bit so hard with the stock/black bushings, tried a 92a bottom conical stock black top bushing still bit too hard. So went with the full 92a conical set. I like a snappy responsiveness of a classic indy feel. The shortened height+axle size than im used to led to a lot more power slides/slide initiation than im used to i like slashing my tail/trucks around and with the 8.25" 144s It really attempts to revert/slide big time compared to how i was used to skating. I really just went with a down size/more conventional set up to see if i can open up my bag of flip tricks agian. Well see how the front crook/nose grinds lock in when i get a good sesh in Im used to 53.5 and 53mm trucks in stage 9/10 indys and the venture highs so the height wasnt as much of an issue the mids just have a slightly more harsh turn and less of a middle ground/coefficient of lean before wheelbite/sliding. But i think thats just based on how i ride and that im used to .25" for my heel/toes to have board feel when riding/carving from 159s and venture 6.1s though venture 6.1s do feel good on 8.75-9.25 shaped boards and now THUNDER has their big boi hangers too now so you can make a really snappy/light shaped setup for a street/slappy oriented setup in the quiver.
Can you make a video that shows which set up is good for different type of skating? e.g. Wide boards side trucks big wheels for halfpipe...But which one is the best for manuals? Ledges? Rails? I think it would help many people!!!!!!
Hey Ben what up.. I just ordered the indy mids and should be getting them today. I got the 144 for an 8 inch deck cause I like riding my trucks a size up. The deck I'm putting these mids on is a Creature deck with a 14" wheelbase so I'm hoping between the lower truck and smaller wheelbase I will get a little more pop? What do think?
you lost me at "Heavy" haha. I just cant do it. I just switched from a new set of ACE 33 to my trusty Destructo Low because the ACE made my setup feel like it was 10 Lbs heavier. I did not like it at all. Also, I'm a fan of low trucks. I like my setup to be light. Ive been thinking about a set of Venture Lo. Ive never ridden Venture before
If you're not a fan of low trucks the Venture low is not going make you very happy. Worst grind clearance ever but they skate really nice for tricks. Now Venture highs with the lower forged baseplates, now those are sweet. Lots of grind clearance and a perfect mid hight Venture. That's just my opinion.
Ben it’s Jay I might be going to Seattle then driving to BC and wanted to know where that ledge spot is at by that Coliseum and the grass everywhere? Looks hella fun! Wanted to hit some street spots not just all the skateparks

Hahahah Ben, I had been watching this episode in the evening and had the weirdest dream last night . You came here overseas to promote some fragrance for skateboarders that smells like maple wood hahaha. I was touring skateparks with you in my home town and filming with a Sony vx800 (a model that doesn't exist hahah) and you were skating and giving away that perfume hahaha That's weird seriously but maybe that perfume might be a good business idea . Maple fragrance...hmmm hahahah. All the best!
Great review. Great spots you got out there man you take full advantage, great lines. Weather is turning here in the prairies wont be much more skating 👎🏼. Side note: my krux bent at the axle and I sent them back to NHS and they are sending me some titanium Indy’s as replacement 😁 also have thunder hollow lights waiting in the wings for a couple decks from the shop who shall not be named haha.
The baseplate with the shaftnut is 12g heavier, than usual. The forged are weighting 100g, the standard are weighting 125g and the inverted Baseplate 137g. That is a big differenz 😅
my truck of choice are venture 5.6 high standard but i switch the bushing to independent standard bushings and IMO its perfect on my 8.378 quasi board rn
Update. I have Indy's hollow forged ( Tony hawk transition 144) and I went to home Depot and made my own inverted base plates, the work way better then the ones Indy's sells 😂 I'm guessing because my base plates are forged drop and not cast

Just got back into skateboarding and found your channel. Really like the way you do your videos.
Hey Ben could you show/review some skateparks around Vancouver that have bowls that are good for beginners please? A pumptrack video would be cool too. Thanks for the great content and the inspiration!
Go to queensboro if your a beginner at transitions
@@TylerRaffle92 Looks sweet! I’ll go try it out. Thanks
Making me want to try a set of Independents 🤔. Great review as always, Ben!
"What makes em special and ...new? " Died LOLOLOLOLLLLLLLLL Made my day. 0:43 LOLOLLLLLLL Keep doin your awesome vids Ben Degros. Love you man. Peace out.
:D
Would you do a review of the reynolds Mids and the hollow mids?
I used to skate there at Hastings park every night, I miss Vancouver so much. Keep ripping Ben!
Another awesome review, thanks Ben. So Indy now offers 52mm height in a heavier truck with less kingpin clearance? Ummm cool, so when does the Titanium Mid drop?
Just dont be a baby, they don’t feel as heavy
Ledge game on point!! Where is that ledge spot around 4:37?
You should review the forged hollow mids
Thanks for review Ben !was expecting good clearance from kingpin is'nt this why everyone is so hyped about them?
Going to give em a miss stick with 144 hollows .I have fitted old grind king kingpins which work well and give proper clearance only snag is you have to jam nut in baseplate with metal and superglue .
Can't understand why indy haven't thought this through with the kingpin clearance maybe could have got rid of washer and incorporated it in kingpin.
Ben: Here's the skating
UA-cam: Here have an ad
ad-blocker no ad´s - problem solved... never could or would watch anything with ad´s - commercials in it ;)
Lmaoo that jus happened to me😂
it's very strange for me to watch you skate. Maybe because I came from your carpentry channel? Who knows, either way I like your style, you're graceful with a lot of your tricks.
Ben!!! Came for the review, wound up LOVING the Track!!!! PLEASE post the Artist(s)!!!! If anyone has any idea, please post up!!!!!!!
I will put it in the description.
@@bendegros thanks IMMENSELY for doing so!!!! It's the PERFECT track to take me from skating to a dinner party WITHOUT changing SONGS!!! (Even my GIRL likes it!!)
Just trying out mine today and im cranking down the tightness so much and they are still very very loose for me. Almost as loose as a longboard
So the mids have the standard bushings? Can't wait until Tuesday when my 159 mids come in. Probably going to switch my bushings with the bones mediums if they're the same bushing size as standards.
It doesn't make sense to me that they retained the same geometry yet shortened the hanger.
0:52 since when were thunders 52?? i swore they were lower than that and then the thunder lows were even lower at 47-48
The wider thunders (148 and up) are 52mm with the cast bp’s and 51mm with the forged bp’s.
Who else wants to see Chad Caruso and Ben skate together?
I'm liking the geometry and them being lower.
And thankfully lockdown has just ended here in Melbourne yesterday, so my local skateshop should be open on Fri when I head into the CBD .
Fingers crossed they'll have a lovely amount of stock to choose from.
Crazy my local skateshop here in los angeles never closed because he sells a few bike parts so he was considered essential. He only really has helmets and bike bells.
@@destroyerdestroy87
That's awesome DH ,
I've always ridden bikes, before I started skating,
& before I got my licence for those horrid wet days.
But things got so shut down here my local bike shop
(who'd been in business for 15+ yrs),
had to permanently close his shop as here it wasn't deemed essential.
Hopefully he'll be able to set up somewhere else soon for his sake.
Tis weird,
I've not run bald tyres(bike),
& nursed bearings & boards along since I was 15yrs old.🙁
Probably one of the only things that makes me appreciate being older.
I hope you're fairing better in your town my friend.
Keep on rolling, & be well.🙂

The innovative new shaft nut In the base plate creates a rigid and durable solution to lateral movement found in most inverted kingpin designs and increases adjustability .the new mid 52 tall with full cushions for maximum turning actions and comes 129,139,144,149,159 size
hey ben, try ricta rapido 99 or 101 compare to f4
I just got a set of titanium’s that are waiting to set up. I think I’ll wait to get the base plate king pin combo when it’s available
And I really think that the indys are better and I wish I had them in 139, so I could just go back to 8” decks....ahhhhhh
im gonna try getting some 159 reynolds hollow mids. Possibly some conical indy bushings.
Yes!! Was waiting for this
Can you make a video that shows which set up is good for different type of skating?
That's some mad street footage right here. Great review!
Thanks :)
@Ben Degros For new skater would You suggest forged hollow mid or forged hollow standard?
Buy them to further frankentruck. Use it with a krux downlow kingpin to lighten it up and increase the clearance. I'm getting them for this.
you lost me at "Heavy" haha.
How tight do you ride your trucks? Don't you have wheel bite problems?
Venture lows are a good tech truck but have zero kingpin clearance.
If you like light trucks Thunder Hollow Lights are a great choice.
@@idmhead0160 pretty medium. Don’t really have wheelbite issues. I also ride 52mm wheels
Ben it’s Jay I might be going to Seattle then driving to BC and wanted to know where that ledge spot is at by that Coliseum and the grass everywhere? Looks hella fun! Wanted to hit some street spots not just all the skateparks
Hi Jay :)
It's right next to Playland. I think it's called empire stadium or empire field.
Actually, maybe the one your thinking of is the Richmond Olympic Oval. The long low ledge that I did the lines at.
@@bendegros yeah that long ass ledge! Also that stairset then a high and low ledge next to a tennis court I seen a lot of clips there from you and the Dime videos. Thanks for the help! Also enjoying the reviews
Hi it’s Luca from the skate park
Hahahah Ben, I had been watching this episode in the evening and had the weirdest dream last night . You came here overseas to promote some fragrance for skateboarders that smells like maple wood hahaha. I was touring skateparks with you in my home town and filming with a Sony vx800 (a model that doesn't exist hahah) and you were skating and giving away that perfume hahaha That's weird seriously but maybe that perfume might be a good business idea . Maple fragrance...hmmm hahahah. All the best!
😂 Awesome!!
Dreams are crazy, our brains work in mysterious ways...
As for that perfume - 'Eau de Gros' even sounds legit French 😀😀😀
Thank you ben. Tho ur videos has made me insane. I want to switch my setup all the time. 😅 Love the channel 🙏❤️
Ben another thing: shall you do a Skate Brands rank video??? It’ll be great!!! Cheers bro!
That's a pretty sweet trade :)
What if u just take the mid hanger and put it on a forged non inverted baseplate and now u have Indy Lows
The baseplate with the shaftnut is 12g heavier, than usual. The forged are weighting 100g, the standard are weighting 125g and the inverted Baseplate 137g.
That is a big differenz 😅
The Indy madness continues!
This was really GREAT review! Thanks Ben!
:)
Ben I skate krux trucks currently, would you say it’s worth swapping them out for a pair if indys?
Try Ventures
Hey Ben, solid & complete review ✅
Which skate truck brands are forged/assembled in the U. S. if any?
I saw the brailles vid and first thing that came into my mind was you. And had a feeling somehow you got one and was going to review lol.
my truck of choice are venture 5.6 high standard but i switch the bushing to independent standard bushings and IMO its perfect on my 8.378 quasi board rn
Would the indy hollow mids be the same weight as standard thunders trucks ?
Hi Ben! What wheelbase on a board would you recommend for the mids 144? 😊
They just bought the patent gring king has for their kingpin. I still prefer mag atv lights. But they never answer calls.
There's a down side to mid however... After some months the king pin bolt will get play and a weird click that can be felt in transition.
Not only can you feel the click it actually moves the wheels a little bit, my son slammed because of this
Update. I have Indy's hollow forged ( Tony hawk transition 144) and I went to home Depot and made my own inverted base plates, the work way better then the ones Indy's sells 😂 I'm guessing because my base plates are forged drop and not cast
