- Grinding 500 Feet On An Inverted Kingpin. Do Inverted Kingpins Make Grinding Easier? Independent Trucks sent us a pair of their new Mid trucks which have an inverted kingpin and a lower profile hanger which is suppose to prevent any chance of catching your kingpin on grinds. Do they work? We met up with Indy team rider Ace Pelka to find out!

Perfect dude for the product test 🔥#BuiltToGrind
Yeaaa
CROB squad would've been better 🤷♂️
ACE.....HAAA!!!!!!!
I got some 2 weeks ago, love them.
When will you guys start making pro model mids?
Can u imagine how fast this guy must go through trucks
as a person who does slappies u go through trucks very fast it sucks replacing trucks so fast
Days lol
Got to smooth them curbs better and slap enamel of for anything to have your equipment last longer and work on point.
Someone needs to make recreation hangers that you can buy in bulk lol
Certified slappy master.
He’s having such a blast too!
what style wheel and durometer is that team wheel Ace is riding?
@@jamesmeiers22 that’s Hardline Shape 54mm, 99a 🍊🤘
@@ojwheels Right on, I like the concave on the wheel. I have the Nomads 95a and EZ edge 101a... Time to get some Hardlines 99a. Thanks OJ 🍊✌
@@jamesmeiers22 YES!
how is a dude with the name Ace on Indy haha
The irony😭
I was thinking the same shit lol. Now we need to find an Indy and get him on Ace Trucks
Funny thing is he used to be on ace
Who else thought he was gonna 50 a 500 ft curb
Me
He's done it before. I mean, he had some curbs so long they start to count as hill bombs.
🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
@@seymourglass26 Yeah, Dan Corrigan posted a video of him a few days ago on this channel. I think the video started off in that same parking lot that's in this video, but, then, they moved on to the hill bomb curb. I don't know how many feet it was. I wouldn't be surprised if it was greater than 500 feet though. One of the guys skating with them literally ground through the front part of the hanger the fits between the bushings doing board slides and the trucks were literally hot after grinding so much.
I think i just need a curb. forget stairs, rails, gaps. This is where the fun is at and you wont die.
Yeah, this is the kind of thing that is inspirational to older skaters like me. I liked hearing that Ace said he normally rides Indy 169s also. Nice to see someone not riding a 2 x 4 with 129s for a change.
@@idmhead0160 129s are always in stock because nobody rides them 😁
You should do one of these for Tensor mag lights. They grind abnormally good, even on raw curbs. The downside is that they wear a bit quicker. I’d like to see what 500 grinds on something dry and crusty would do to them.
Dude definitely knows how to rip a curb.
Hey this is cool i used to get CCS catalogs way back in the 90's
For having a new set-up this dude looks super comfy and locked in
Im 36 now and i think its time for me to start skating again. ✌❤
Welcome back! I’m 36 and just started again
It's never too late!! Been skating everyday since turning 31 and better than I ever was at 17
Bring back kev we miss him
Indy, "Our new inverted kingpins" Grindking, "Yeah we did that 28 years ago" soooo I make my own inverted for $5 with stainless buttonhead bolts, and nylon nuts from hardware store, easy as hell
You can also buy the krux down low kingpin kit and a lil jb weld and you can convert your indys I did it to my thunders without liquid cement
Got a new pair of Mids with the inverted kingpin recently...had to add 7 washers to each truck to make them usable because I couldn't even find a compatible kingpin I could swap out lol
indy riders in the 90s: "inverted kingpins are a gimmick, they're for posers, just go faster and grind through it"
indy riders in 2020: "check out this inverted kingpin that WE invented all on our very own, they're the best!"
Ikr 😞
I think maybe They kind of invented this type of inverted kingping both allen key and akatekey in one but.... I think it is more bad than other inverted kingpin truck with regard to clearance like for smith grinds foreexample check out ben degros review of theese kind of trucks independent mid trucks,
@@s.ibnihenry.abdullah2165 Grind king had it in the 90's, 25 years later Krux and Indy have adopted it. Have never skated them, so don't know if it's good or screws up the turning and geometry or not.
Ian : I mentioned part about for both having allen and normal skatekey at same time. I remember my self grindking from around beginning years when I had started to skate I started back then in time around 99 , so yes others was way later but to be fair krux where only 20 years later and not 25 or maybe even 17 or 15 years later or something like that : )) but I'm not exactly sure when krux started exactly.
@@s.ibnihenry.abdullah2165 It's funny, a kid on my street in the 90's had grind kings, and since then I've not once seen them ever.
Ace is definitely the grind/board slide master. Checkout the video of him grinding down the hill with Dan Corrigan on his channel. Epic. One guy even ground through the front of the hanger by the king pin nut they were doing such long board slides. The trucks were literally hot after they got done.
Lol, it's not any lower in relation to the hanger. There's actually less clearance because of the height reduction, so they beefed up the hanger to account for this. It's basically a heavier, lower Indy with standard kingpin clearance.
Weird design....
Pretty much
@916SavageMoB bro its CCS a skateshop these are literally all advertisements
@916SavageMoB you serious bro. It's all just trying to get someone to buy something off their site. And if you think their decks are anything other than trash reconsider your options
The extra beef in the hanger probably helps someone like Ace. Guy probably goes through trucks like nobody else. Checkout the videos of him doing hill bomb grinds.
Just got these on my new Santa Cruz deck today stuck a few 5050 s so far they grind beautifully
Is it just me or does the sound of trucks going over ruff, but smooth ledges sound so satisfying?
Such a rad dude and those Madness decks look soo sick
I got some Krux inverted kingpin trucks and I haven't had a problem with them If anything it's a little awkward to tighten my trucks but other than that they are good.
DLK's are the shit.
Sick, but I’ll stick to the regular ones.
My man pretty much killed the spot
4:41 “do this one footer” counter goes up 5 ft 😂 awesome skating tho
Best intro ever g, so satisfying
Grind king , king pin on Gullwings is the bomb
On a curb he locks in so hard like he's trying to break the cement...🤘Putting those trucks to work 💯%
Hello CCS still waiting for my magazine
Legend says he's still waiting
Always rode Krux, once I found em... inverted kingpin and a hard ass alloy.
Fuck yeah Ace! shonno... wheeeeew!!!! Keeping Vista on the map.💪🏽
Glad to see rails with all that grindin'
Curb killer. Ace
I'm learning slappy's this weekend FTW
Yooooooo! I was scrolling and saw your comment! That's crazy!
Bruh I just got a new complete from u guys and it’s sick
I did this for years! I would knock the kingpin out flip it tighten then down and any excess kingpin got sanded off on the belt sander.
obsessed with ace footy
This dude shreds!!!!
So clean
Ace trucks for the win! These are boat anchor heavy!
The GROOVES dude
It’s like an addiction for me to get those grooves it’s a fucking grind! Literally!
Sheesh it’s crazy how fast the trucks wear out grinding curbs
This place is flappy heaven
@Miami meant slappy lol
You should have shown what the kingpin looked like after like how scraped up it was or wasn't
Ben Degros was saying on his review that the mids are kind of worse with regard to king pin clearance and Smiths. Ace was only skating a low curb. I think you run into issues if it's a taller ledge and the Smith has more dip.
my dude fell on a slappy for this vid, respect
This isn't really a new thing, but my fav trucks are now some old Krux with Allen head inverted kingpin for no-hangups. Gring Kings , G&S (if anyone remember those) , and several other truck companys have done this in the past just can't remember them all. Hell , I used to bang the kingpin out of my baseplates on some of mine and do this on my own,but you would have to be careful not to loosen them too much to let the encapsulated nut inside the base fall off. I think you could do it with a lot of different trucks like Ventures, Indys,Destructos, and Thunders. I've ridden just about all of the trucks mentioned. It just makes sense though if you like to do long grinds on anything.
I used to cut a piece of bushing to stick in the baseplate to keep the nut from falling off.
I gotta try these!!!
When are the Indy lows coming out again?
So I can put some high risers on them.
We did this in the '80s so we could get an extra six to eight months out of our trucks when you're making $4.25 an hour minimum wage.
Good thing 4.25 in the 80s was comparatively more practical living than 8.25 minimum wage nowadays.
It was not
@@warmachine1770 it sure was, if you think the liveable minimum wage has kept up w inflation, then you're actually ignorant.
George Clooners California is $15 lol
@@zekefredwins5890 and? You're just proving my point further. California is one of the most expensive places to live and $15/hr in california is NOT liveable.
This is sooo fukkin cool!
Thank you
While you had him there maybe you should ask what his set up is and his bushing recipe.
im the same with trucks. not a fan of new trucks best when they get that groove and lock in place all day
I dont know why but breaking in a truck really satisfying for me
Where is that slappy hubba thang at the end
Once those hollows drop I might be switching brands
@Tendo Pain So your calling Grant Taylor a clown ass? Get a life
I put inverted Grind King king pins in my Independents in 1989 and haven’t looked back. Independent truck company should’ve done this 20 or 30 years ago.
Indies for life! 169s for life!
Beautiful
Still have my GKs
I ordered my CCS book months ago and still nothing. I want to order for my kids the same way I had to. I keep telling the boy that when we were kids we had to send our orders uphill in the snow bothways in the mail. He doesn't believe me.
The Indy mids are a bit heavier than the normal axel ones
Btw yall can buy grind kings of thier site same stuff just made in America .
So how's it compare to the gk disruptor
Just invert the king pin .
Grind the bolt head down first.
Get it way lower that on any truck.
If i get the inverted king pin will i be able to finally do inverts?
Indy's for life
Man I really need to learn slappy’s. They look like so much fun!
you can basically do them on any curb if you try hard enough they were the first grind i learned they are my fav!
@@miguelz3895 That’s so awesome! One day I’ll find a spot and start learning!
@@SkatingwithAaron you can use any painted curb with some wax and start shredding
@@miguelz3895 Yeah I need to be on the lookout. Saw a good one the other day right behind the local police station. Lol..I was tempted to check it out! 😅
I’m trying to learn them now. Having trouble getting my back trucks to follow up to the top of the curb. Maybe the curb needs more wax?
So someone explain how grooves help u lock in?
Real talk tho, where can I get that vest?
damn they rlly great
Make ttk w premade built-in groove
Slappies rock
So what you are saying is you need a groove?
Don't grind King King pins or an equivalent type still exist?
NO wheel bite?! WOW!
how long do a pair of trucks last him ?
What size is the board ?
yo where these curbs at
Am I the only one who misses the Indy Lows? nobody talks about those
Koston's hollow indy lows were amazing!
Where should I mount my rails? I always see this dude riding them quite far in but its kind of a shame that you dont get any advantage off of them like that for smiths&feebles... first world skaters problems lol
it sorta depends on what you want em for but i hear like 1.5 inched in from the edges or so but it depends on the size deck AND the concave
thx!
@@SkiingAintCrime i say use a ruler or something flat to lay it on the rails to get them to a spot where ruler or whatever doesnt touch the deck and has maybe a finger or less of gap between it for wear down that way the graphic doesnt get scraped up much and you still have a decent distance between em them mark the holes like with a marker or poke it with a nail
Waiting for mine in the mail for Christmas 😤 144s baby
Just you should know they are little or some heavier than standard independent so if you have had hollow, ir hollow forged or even more if titanium trucks I 144 then you will see big difference I guess in how the trucks will be also maybe you know they are less tall than standard independent.
@@s.ibnihenry.abdullah2165 lol I know what I bought I did my own research
So you have checked review that ben degros made on his youtube channel ?
@@s.ibnihenry.abdullah2165 of course lol I exhaust UA-cam and Reddit before any purchase
Goddam that was satisfying
what wheels are those?
What’s that for a song
What deck was he using? It looked sick
Madness Skateboards
can yall do this with a set of Grind Kings?! :D
Grind Kings had it first, then gullwing...
Dont forget silver trucks had an inverted kingpin as well back in the early 2000s
would y'all recommend using a shock riser or pad for these?
No, indys are high trucks in general, and that sorta negates the reason for not buying highs unless it's only for the kingpin. Just don't use big arse wheels and you'll golden
Btw, baseplates with new kingpins available this spring, just swap hanger and profit
@@svnbit8408 i did this and it works good to me
@@svnbit8408 good to know thanks, I mostly skate street and I use a small shock riser even though my wheels are 52mm just to be safe, and I was looking into a kingpin and was wondering if it is worth keeping the shock riser
GULLWINGS
boardslide counted as grind what?
Los feliz!
whats the grind called where you approach the obstacle frontside, spin backside, and do a backwards bs feeble?
Frontside Hurricane
Fs hurricane
Front side Hurricane
your description of a front hurricane is so perfect that I'm having a hard time believing you didn't know the name in the first place lol
@@sk8_bort haha 👀 wait til i ask what a sugarcane is 👀
Cosco parking lot?
Do you have to wax the curb to slide like that?
It's up to you how difficult you want it to be. You could try skating it raw with extreme speed to make up for the lack of wax.
Song id?
Krux has left the chat
Why didnt crob and the venice boiz do this vid? Seems like a missed opportunity...
Noiiiiice
Is there no such thing as the "Grind King" domed kingpin any more?, gap in the market right there..... had mine years and years.
