- Dainese Racing 3 Leather Jacket Review
www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/d...
As always, Dainese is at the forefront of motorcycle jacket tech, materials, and style with the Dainese Racing 3 Jacket. Taken from Dainese’s premium race-grade leather jackets, the Racing 3 melds it all together in jacket that is equally at home on the track or the street. Constructed of Tutu cowhide leather and S1 bielastic fabric at strategically placed points for better mobility, the Racing 3 is a leather jacket built to be among the best in the world (hence why it made our 207 Fall Jackets Gear Guide!). Additional features include shoulder and elbow armor, replaceable shoulder-cap aluminum insert, and reflectivity for increased visibility in low-light scenarios.
Just got mine in the mail. Loving it!
The opening never disappoints!
Just wanted to mention that, for those of you wondering, the Dainese Racing 3 jacket is a revised and improved update to the D1 jacket (the latter still being sold on closeout, though). Yes, I know that the two jackets have different names, but simply regard the Racing 3 jacket as a better D1 jacket. Both the Racing 3 and D1 jackets are superb jackets in any case and are worth buying, owning and wearing.
Thanks ! Recently, i have tried this older model D1 at Kawasaki dealership and really liked the styling, it felt like body armor compared to my regular leather jacket, so definately, Dainese is way to go. But i cant decide, if i should pick D1 or newer model racing 3, mainly, because older version seems to have better collar connection.
I like the looks of the D1 a lot more, even with some of the nice touches here. Luckily you have them on clearance right now!
Just got my racing 3 jacket. I noticed that the Dainese logo across the chest seemed smaller than the pictures I see online. anyone else noticed this with their racing 3 jacket ?
Likely going to get this jacket next, currently have RS Taichi GMX motion from 7yrs ago. Is there any date for the racing 4? Thx for the review
CE1!!! I'll stick with my Racing C2 which has CE2 armour all around!
Does this have a cell phone pocket on the inside of the jacket?
This is their only jacket they offer in tall sizes, and I’m really bummed they didn’t make it with ce level 2 protection.
The jacket of their 2 piece level 2 tall size suit, the Laguna Seca 4, is way too race-fit and short to wear without the pants.
I wish they’d offer a tall size relaxed fit street racing jacket, or at least regular fit like the racing 3, with level 2 armor.
which one do you recommend? Dainese agile leather or Racing 3 leather?
In terms of breathability only: which will keep my the coolest in hot summer riding: this Dainese Racing 3, or one of the A-stars SP-1 Air, GP Plus R v2 Air or GP-R perf? I'm trying to get the most airflow from leather under $600 for non-track.
The SP-1 Airflow has the most ventilation for a leather jacket. -DrewZilla

Hi, I fit the Assen size 46 very snug and would say that the 48 would be the right fit. How does this fit compare with the Assen fit specifically on the shoulders, waist and forearms?
It fits similarly to the Assen but has thicker Tutu leather than the Grid leather of the Assen. I'd go with size 48. -DrewZilla
I've owned this jacket for 2+ seasons now. My main dislike is the open metal zipper. They should have rubber coated the zippers to prevent scratching when you open the jacket on a warm summer ride. The vent openings on the chest also has a tendency to not vent a lot of air. They want to stay closed, even when the zipper is all the way open. Otherwise, i have no complaints about this jacket. Feels really great to wear and has a lot of protection for the price.
How is this in colder weather? Trying to find a good jacket for those 45-60 degree days.
Great review. I've got the D1 and love it but find it a tad on the restrictive side as far as range of motion. I works great on my streetfighter but on my Panigale I find it gets a bit tight reaching for the controls with the more aggressive riding position. That's my one gripe with the D1 and almost wish they'd gone with some standard accordion stretch panels to solve it. Does this solve that issue? How much more of a range of motion would you give this? Minor improvement? Big improvement?
It's an incremental improvement in movement. Everyone's physique is different, but it's possible there's enough stretch with the Racing 3 to work on your Panigale. -DrewZilla
Does this have the glove to jacket inner tech system? For a race pro in glove. Also did the previouse version of this jacket had it?
No, neither the new Racing 3 nor the old Racing D1 has has the Inner-Tech System. -DrewZilla
Can I use a see soft back and chest insert in this jacket? Also are the shoulder and elbow armor replaceable?
You cannot use Seesoft in Dainese jackets, unfortunately, as the pockets are shaped and sized differently. Additionally, the shoulder and elbow armor is not replaceable either. -DrewZilla
Are there Dainese textile pants that would pair well with this jacket? In case I wouldn't want to go with leather track pants or jeans...Is it even a good idea to mix leather top with a textile bottom?
Yes, a lot of us here pair leather jackets with textile pants. The all-around pants of choice are the New Drake Air Pants, since they're slim, have some stretch, and have a connection zipper to pair with Dainese jackets. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-new-drake-air-textile-pants
How long would these jackets last?
Hi there, compared to the veloster, which one has more room in the mid section ? Thank you !
The Veloster has a bit more room in the mid-section. -DrewZilla
Despite buying the one that the Dainese size chart suggested for my measurements (talking about the LADY version of this jacket), it's very very thight on the armpits. It's almost painful. Everything else fits perfectly though, which is a pity. The only way I have to wear this jacket without feeling pain under my arms from the pressure is to remove the shoulder pads inside. Is it a common issue with all Dainese jackets? Or is it just this one, I'm confused. If I go a size up, it's still thight on that spot only. Weird.
Hey Revzilla, I tried a size 48 of the Racing 3 and it fit me really well, except for the arm length... It was missing about 2cm from my wrists. I'm 1.85, european frame, 75kgs, with longer than normal limbs. I'm struggling to find something that fits. Do you know if the A* Missile has longer arms?
No, the Missile's sleeves are slightly shorter than the Racing 3's sleeves. You may want to try a brand like Spidi or REV'IT! for more length. -DrewZilla
Samuel Tod I can give you an easy recommendation, as I have the exact same size as you (48 tall), which is size 98.
You can get the racing 3 jacket in size 98, it’s called racing 3 s/t
Thermal liner and color aside, what's the difference between this and the Fighter perf jacket? Thanks.
The Fighter uses Dainese's D-Skin 2.0 leather, which is even higher quality than their Tutu leather used on the Racing 3. The armor is the same, so the difference is down to the leather and the thermal liner. -DrewZilla
I feel 46 size very snug could say perfect but i was worried if i gained 2-3-4 more kilograms i wouldnt be able to wear it normally anymore. So i decided to buy 48 my question is : if you are between lets say 2 numbers and you picked up the higher for having some room to gaining weight and increasing muscle size would it still be compromise to safety lets say if it feels a little loose not much but some..
If you are gaining muscle, then you have to go with the larger size. As long as the jacket isn't really really loose, it will be fine. -DrewZilla
Hi RevZilla !!! I'm your fan come from Taiwan. I have a question (Hope to get the answer ) : I bought a DAINESE MANIS D1 G2 back armor and wanted to install it on the Racing 3 Leather Jacket, but I found that it couldn't be installed. So can this armor(MANIS D1 G2 ) be installed on this Leather Jacket(Racing 3 type)?
ua-cam.com/video/4o2tOsSqrKg/v-deo.html
this back armor(DAINESE MANIS D1 G2
The Manis is a bit wide for the pocket opening. Instead, I recommend the Pro Armor G2. -DrewZilla

I want to use a leather conditioner called leather honey on my dainese jacket and pants. Being it's safety gear is this a safe thing to do?
As long as it does not contain petroleum distillates, it should be ok. However, we cannot make any guarantees. -DrewZilla
Is it pairable only with Delta 3 leather bottom or any dainese leather trousers? Mens/mens, ladies/ladies?
Dainese uses the same connection zippers for their pants and jackets so it would be compatible across the brand. If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to our Gear Geeks at 877.792.9455 or cs@revzilla.com. Ride safe, Pat
hey, what's the difference between this and the assen leather jacket? what would you suggest?
The biggest difference is the quality of the leather and the liner. The Assen uses Dainese's 1.0mm Grid leather and TechFrame liner, while the Racing 3 uses their nicer 1.3mm Tutu leather and Nanofeel antimicrobial liner. The Racing 3 also has more stretch material and micro-elastication for better flexibility. Both are great options for the street. It's just a matter of whether you want the nicer leather and additional flexibility of the Racing 3. -DrewZilla
Is Dainese coming out with a replacement for the Super Speed D1 anytime soon?
They haven't announced an updated version, so it's hard to know if or when they would. -DrewZilla
6' 3" and 43.5 inch chest. Would a EU 54 be the best sizing?
You may actually want to consider the 54 Tall size, given your height. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-racing-3-jacket
Late to the game, but i just got the racing 3 in a size 48 and feel the arms are a bit long. But afraid that a 46 would be too tight around the waist/chest. Especially if i add some layers ( live in Sweden mind ;). Any rekommendations ?
The arms are generally long, and based on what you've said, I wouldn't go down to 46. Are the arms still too long when you're in the riding position? If so, you might need to consider a different brand like Alpinestars. -DrewZilla
Ok, thank you! As i don’t have a dealer for Dainese in my area so i can try another size. Your input is highly appriciated 🙂👍🏻
You're welcome!
@revzilla how about me, 5'6 in height, 34 wasteline? Do you think im size 48 or 50? I hope you can reply
The most important measurement is your chest size, measured around the fullest part of your chest (across the pecs). 38 inch chest would be a 48 and about a 40 inch chest would be size 50. -DrewZilla
What jacket by Dainese would you recommend for winter? Is there one that’s similar to this one ?
It depends how cold winter is where you live. If you live in a mild climate, you might be comfortable in a leather jacket with a thermal liner. In that case, I'd recommend the Avro 4, Fighter, and Razon jackets. If winter gets closer to freezing and rains a lot, I'd recommend a waterproof textile jacket with a removable thermal liner. I'd recommend the Racing 3 D-Dry, Hawker D-Dry, and Carve Master 2 Gore-Tex jackets. -DrewZilla

Thanks mate, I live in Sydney and it’s almost winter here, we get 14 degree days here in winter. I like the look of the avro 4 but I don’t think Australia has it here yet, I’ll keep an eye out for it thanks. Also do you know which jacket the avro 4 is replacing ? Thanks
I am a 170 pound dude between 6'-0" and 6'-1" with a 40" chest. Will size 50 fit or should I be looking at 48 or 50 tall? I prefer them be a little snug in the chest for that slim look
Your chest measurement would have you in a size 50 but you would need to measure your sleeves and compare that to the sizing chart on the page to answer your Tall question. However, based on your chest the size 50 would best option out of the gate for you. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Gear Geeks at 877.792.9455 or cs@revzilla.com. - Pat
@@RevZilla Thank you for the quick response to my question! I think the sleeves will be alright, I was only concerned if the bottom of the jacket would sit too high above my belt. I think I will go with a 50 and see if it fits vertical-wise on the torso.
What CE2 armour would fit as a replacement?
There is no CE Level 2 replacement armor for the shoulders and elbows. The only CE Level 2 armor available is the Manis and the Pro-Armor for the back protector. -DrewZilla

RevZilla such a shame they didn’t go with ce level 2.
This or Rev'it Akira air for couple track days like 2-3 per year and everyday summer street rides ??
Both offer very similar ventilation in the Air/Perforated versions. The Akira Air does come with CE Level 2 armor, though, which is a bit better than Dainese's CE Level 1 armor. Additionally, it depends which brand's leather pants you prefer, since you will very likely need to wear compatible leather pants that can be zipped to the jacket for a track day. With REV'IT!, you have the Vertex GT Pants. From Dainese, you have a couple more options. -DrewZilla

@@RevZilla Thanks alot for your informations, that's helpfull. :)
You're welcome!
I was about to jump on this but that solid back panel makes me sad. Wish it was perfed
The perforated version has a lot of perforation on the back, though the only product photos we have are of the non-perforated version. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-racing-3-perforated-jacket
is this the short or the standard length jacket? thanks
It's the standard length. -DrewZilla
Hi RevZilla !!! I am 5foot 8inch tall, Chest 42 inch...Is size 52 good for me ??? Please comment ....Many thanks :D :))
PS - I already have Dainese Full Metal 6 gloves ;D
52 is likely to be the best size for you. -DrewZilla
Why do you only show one side on the inside?? Show both. Did the otherside have the pocket for chest protector??
Yes, both sides have internal pockets for chest protectors.
Hello thanks for the nice videos.
I am 6,05 (185cm)tall , 231 lbs(105 klg), 46,5 chest and 44 waiste. Do you think size 58 will fit me or it will be very big?
(My D1 air frame tex summer jacket from 10 yrs ago is size 52 but it has become very very very narrow that i barely fit on it now) so i decided to go to 58 size even if it will be a little bigger and not very tight i am just scared in case it will be huge with very long sleeves, what do you think? Thanks
Do you have a shop wear you can try the jacket on locally by chance? Or any Dainese leather jacket? Dainese has a very narrow and European fit and you may be between the 58 and 60 size. You may want to order both and return the one that is too small/big, since it is a safety device.
@@RevZilla I dont have a shop near and also this will be my first leather and cant compare.
I thought my d1 tex air frame has similar cut to the racing 3 leather so i guess if i jump from 52 to 58 it will be fine. So thank you for your advice i feel better now that it will not be extremely big this size (58-60) for my dimensions ,that was my biggest worry. Thanks
How does this compare to the D1? The fluo red, is it red or more orange?
Functionally, the Racing 3 has larger shoulder sliders, more micro-elastication on the back, and more stretch fabric through the collarbone area. As for the color, it's really halfway between red and orange. Maybe it's slightly closer to red. -DrewZilla
Is the a replacement for the D1? Tony compares to a Racing 2, which I have never seen. The Racing C2?
C Ney yeah, I guess it is the D1s replacement. I've never really heard of the D2 myself. I actually had a D1 and just switches to the Assen, it was a choice between the this new Racing 3 or the Assen. Much happier with the Assen, more comfortable for my street riding, oh and looks awesome!
hooo crap ,,, in the page looks more red in this video looks more orange ,, my jacket isn't arrived yet hope for more red in that jacket
ruD RV I have the Assen in fluo red and it's a nice red, orange red I would say.
Please put a demon logo on the chest on the racing 4!
That probably won't happen, as the Racing has always said _Dainese_ across the chest. The Avro traditionally has the demon logo. -DrewZilla

Yes, that's actually a good range for it. You can even wear it comfortably up to 80 or so. -DrewZilla

Hey guys! Would you size down on this one too?
Yes
Is it the same Fitment as the MIG jacket. Thanks
Yes, it's very similar to the MIG Jacket. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla thanks
You're welcome!
Where’s the pockets at
Hello, what are the best protectors for back and chest to buy separately for this jacket? I don't know what to choose between Dainese Pro-Armor and Forcefield Pro Lite K. Thanks!
Both provide the same CE Level 2 protection. Pro-Armor is lighter but stiffer, while Forcefield is a bit heavier but softer. As for the chest, I recommend the Double Chest Protectors from Dainese. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-double-chest-protectors
I'm in doubt about which one to pick, Racing 3 or Assen, Which one do you guys recommend? (For long travels)
The Assen has a slightly relaxed fit, so it might be more comfortable for long travels. -DrewZilla
I see. Thanks
You're welcome!
hey please help me i got 42" chest (size 52) but waist for size 50" which should i get? I tried both in shop but... 50 was narrow on chest but good on waist, 52 was fine on chest but not on waist. Thanks
You would go with size 52. -DrewZilla

RIP tall sizes for us string beans?
It's possible they'll make a limited number of them in short and tall sizes, but it's unclear currently. -DrewZilla
Douglas Simon this jacket is available in tall sizes, called racing 3 s/t.
Only thing missing now is level 2 armor...
500$ jacket
"I don't think as a rider we can ask for much more"
Uhm. How about CE2 armor? Or YKK zippers that don't break after a few uses? Or a back protector? Or an included detachable thermal liner? Or logos and aesthetics on the jacket that are not made out of polyesther? Better, more and no stitching on the elastics but rather on top of the leather? Better leather considering the top price of the jacket?
This jacket without the Dainese logos is worth 100-150$ at most. Absolutely terrible buy IMHO, but I'm kinda sad you seem to promo it as a quite nice purchase when it absolutely isn't.
How does this jacket do vs the alpinestars gp plus r?
This Racing 3 Jacket has even nicer leather than the GP Plus R as well as more stretch material for better flexibility. -DrewZilla
RevZilla between the two which has a longer fit in the torso? Which would fit 6'1 better
Dainese is longer through the torso. -DrewZilla
RevZilla going to get me some Zilla cash! Thanks for the help and direction here.
You're welcome! -DrewZilla
