what chest size are you in inches? I live in Mexico and I want to buy the jacket online in USA but I do not know what size fits me and I do not trust in icon size chart. thanks
I love my Basehawk. I've been down with it at highway speed and survived with just a bruised elbow and a tiny scuff on my wrist. I can confirm the ballistic nylon actually holds up pretty well in a slide. Also pretty sure the D3O saved my elbow from some serious damage, still couldn't move my arm for a week, but expect it would have been way worse without it. Still wear it with pride despite a bit of scuffing on the leather and nylon :D Awesome review Ryan, top notch production as always.
Went on a long 2150 mile tour. In SD on day 1 I realized that I needed warmer gear. I was rocking a teeshirt and a scout air. Motorsports store near my campground in Sioux Falls had some stuff on discount. Picked up the icon 1000 basehawk and alliance dark full face for 400 usd. Hated to spend the money, but love the chill look on my Indian scout. My first full face, I really appreciated the additional thermal and face protection on the interstate. Something big got kicked up from a semi and rang my ears when it struck the helmet. The rain slid right off. With no windshield on my bike, it was great. I picked the gear without knowing about it and based my choice based off of watching for the things you look for. Also wore some Klim outriders but lost the pads when I washed it in a hotel. I still used the scout air playing around local areas after setting camp or checking in- like the black hills deadwood and Estes park, but loved having both options.
Thanks for the great videos! It's great having a tall reviewer on gear being 6'3" myself, finding gear that fits is always a challenge. Fortnine should consider doing a video on riding gear for tall riders. Thank you for the consideration
My dxr legend full leather jacket has all the CE plates you could wish for. And a thermal liner, I ordered it from Germany and it cost me £120, which is less than $200 I've slid it down the road at 80 mph when knocked off my bike in dry conditions and it's barely got a scratch on it, incredible jacket, highly recommended over all of these for a cruiser look
I have the first leather jacket he reviewed on this vid. It faded kinda fast but it’s warm as hell. I’m 5’11” 165lbs and it fits me perfect, I can still wear a sweatshirt under it and it fits good.
I've had the Drifter for a while now and really like it. Mine didn't smell that much, though. Yes, it's hilarious when someone picks it up and discovers the darn thing weighs a ton - my sister asked if I had lead in the pockets! You're right about the sleeves - I'm pretty fit and they are tight around the biceps.
Oh, and I currently wear a Victory "Classic" jacket with armor. Was riding Vic's before I bought my Harley and found it on sale for around $100 - couldn't say no to that! Was easy to remove the badging, too. :D
Pretty sad that the river road Laughlin jacket is discontinued. I really liked the versatility, functionality, and style of it very much. Is there another jacket that you can compare to that is still available? Thanks. Also a big fan. You have amazing editing and splicing skills as well as you explain things very effectively. Keep doing what you are doing, I appreciate all you do and make
Yeah it's a bummer - the Laughlin was the best jacket River Road made, in my opinion. The closest thing I've come across is the Black Brand Street Team (www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/black-brand-street-team-jacket.html). Similar in every way, except it has a windproof liner instead of the Laughlin's quilted one. I like the Joe Rocket Iron Age too (www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/joe-rocket-iron-age-jacket.html), although the style is a lot more motorcycle-ish. Glad you enjoyed the videos! My buddy handles the editing and splicing - he's very talented. ~RyanF9
Ah, thank you so much for those suggestions, I will definitely check those out. And yeah, little skulls on buttons aren't my cup of tea. Screams try hard to me. But thank you. Alex
I have the same problem with leather jackets - the sleeves and the whole jacket are too short while the fit around my chest shoulders and waist is pretty loose which spoils the look.
FortNine Please, please start doing women's gear reviews. The moto industry treats us like cup holders in a sports car; an afterthought. And then they convince themselves that women don't want to ride bikes!
@@FortNine jealous that guys jackets get pockets that are big enough to be useful, and leather gear that actually has armor... Women's jackets leave a lot to be desired!
Can I suggest you take a look at the "AGV sport element vintage leather jacket?" It looks 10x better than the river road, is disressed better and comes fully loaded for armour. I put in D30 armour and it makes the jacket amazing. I can also attest to it's quality, I was rear-ended, jacket held up perfectly. It has a great sport look, but easily works for cruiser fans. Tbh, I've had a look at most of the jackets you reviewed and the AGV wins in style, features and quality.
Really loving the reviews you guys are doing, but if I may make one comment, I don't really like the way you guys cut the videos just to slip in a single comment (4:10) and the way Ryan bounces around the same room (0:15) seems unnecessary and forced. But I really love the multi panel view (2:42)! Keep up the good work guys!
That first jacket looks great. It's an amazing value, I'll definitely have to save up for that. Any chance you could do a video on eyewear? Something along the lines of goggles and color change sunglasses would be great. Getting a color change visor is expensive, getting color change goggles or sunglasses is much less expensive.
Good idea! I'll add it to our shooting list. In the meantime, I do talk about one pair of photochromic sunglasses in this video: ua-cam.com/video/tC5GPf6D0rQ/v-deo.html ~RyanF9
FortNine Those are the sort I'm talking about. But, the Bobsters had a few reviews that have put me off buying them just now. I'm not sure if they're the same model as the ones you're covering, but some of them had issue with the photocromatic element months down the line. Which shouldn't be the case, the price they're charging should cover decent quality for that, even the full visors are only $150 and that's got to require enough film for at least a half dozen sunglasses.
Personally I want the Rev It Flatbush Air Vintage... even though I plan on being a sport bike rider I want to look casual off the bike, and the Flatbush looks like a regular old leather jacket.
Ryan- Please do a Top 5 for Tall Riders. I have the same issues that you have, everything is too short in waist, and to get the arms to fit, I have to buy a jacket that is ridiculously over sized. Most manufactures think that arm length is directly proportional to waist girth. Not true. I know there are some options that are out there, but I would like more and a review on them.. Thanks.
Awesome video! Would you mind to show your full body with legs and feet for future videos when showing off these awesome jackets to get a better perspective of how they would look? Thanks mate.
I never worry about how waterproof bike gear is. I always have my wet weather gear on the top of my gear on my bike or I ocy/bungie strap my wet weather gear to my bike or I get wet :)
Great review! Awesome sound, setup of camera. My only gripe is it seems kinda dark (can't see the black jackets properly) when it's on that coat rack. Other than great video :)
First of all, i am a huge fan.... also may be next time when you introduce a product you can put in the name on the video and link where can we buy them. i has to pause and go back to get the name properly and then type it google. so please consider this request. it makes it easy for us.. thanking you in advance.

are you guys partnered with Icon, alpine or river road. or are they really your favorites in many categories? I don't know too many of the other brands but I love these videos
Ryan!! How is the vents on the icon 1000? I would like a jacket that is using D03 armor but also giving me safety. Sadly the river road laughlin is discontinued. I also liked another icon jacket you reviewed in the best jackets under 200 i think. It was blacked out and had no pockets at all outside the jacket. Which do you think is the better of the lot?
Hey! The Icon 1000 Basehawk is the best of the lot, but it's *not* ventilated that well. No exhaust vent on the back, so it gets stuffy. Not unbearably so, and I have used that jacket in 30C days, but there are cooler options. The Laughlin has a doppelganger you can buy: Black Brand's Street Team (fortnine.ca/en/black-brand-street-team-jacket). Also a very good jacket. Not sure which other Icon you're thinking of. The Overlord has no pockets on the outside, and does come in a blackout colourway. It's also the most ventilated of the three and a really good deal for a D3O jacket. But more of a sport cut. Hope that helps! ~RyanF9
