I’ve got twelve of these exact GE dryers that are about six years old sitting in one of my buildings. Time to order some belts and pulleys, as I’m sure one will go any day now... Thanks for the video! This is going to make my life a heck of a lot easier when one of those belts finally bites the dust. However, these dryers have been pretty great aside from having to replace broken control knobs and control panels.
The washers, on the other hand... I’ve mastered the art of draining the washer drum to pull a tiny sock out of the drain pump. No idea how they fly in to the pump so easily when draining, but it happens about five or six times a year.

Thank you for this video, is there a certain type of belt that I would need or are they all basically the same? Amazon seems to have different model numbers my machine just says it’s a GE.
GE front load dryers have been the same in my experience.

Hey Skid!!! Where I work we have the same dryer. Had a work order come in, resident said it would run for 5 minutes and then shut off.. but would start right back after pushing the start button. I checked for loose connections, high limit switch, door switch you name it! I was wondering if you ever came across this before? Thanks Skid for the videos!!!
Yea when it happened to me, the resident had the dryer pushed against the wall & was crimping the vent hose. The heat couldn't vent out so it would shut the dryer off as a safety precaution. Once it cooled, it would start back up. Check the vent hose. Thank you so much for watching Leecro!

@@LexVance I forgot to mention, blew out the dryer shoot and spaced dryer away from the wall just over a foot. Dryer hose was straight out the wall no bends. We still have that dryer to investigate. However residents received a new one!

Lex, quick question, if the barrel keeps rotating but the start bottom keep shutting off, does it mean I have to also replace the belt?
There's a safety switch on the bottom left under the barrel. It could be bad. The switch shuts the dryer off if the belt breaks. The dryer will turn on when you push then start button but will turn back off when you let go. That's the symptoms. You'll have to remove the barrel to check that switch with a volt meter set to continuity. Thank you so much for watching alobo!

Good repair for that particular problem.
From the sound of that GE (I think), that dryer may have another problem or two at anytime.
Seems like the motor has a slight hum and the rollers and or bearings are a little noisey.

What if the dryer starts when I hold the button & does stay on while I hold it but when I let go it turns off? I checked & the drum does in fact spin & the dryer is producing heat. It just won't stay on if I let go of the start button.
There's a switch down to the left of the drum. An interlock switch. It may be bad. You've got to remove the drum to see it. The pulley arm makes it click.

Dryer interlock switch. Probably get it at a local appliance parts store like Marcone. Other than that, you'll have to get on Amazon.

the pulley worn like that was bearing failure, it twists sideways and the belt moves to the edge riding against the lip and chews itself and pulley until it lets go. just one more thing that used to last for years, then again most people washed "once" a week and often reused the water for multiple clothing, now days it seems like the dryer and washer get ran multiple times a day for "micro loads", then they claim front loaders with less water usage are super efficient. not as often as they get used =p

So the problem is that the drum is not spinning, not that it shuts off after pushing start. My dryer runs for five minutes, then kicks off. Quite different issue.
Check the dryer vent hose in the back. If it's crimped or clogged with lint, it'll shut off due to a safety switch. I hope everything works out for you!
My belt was still very much intact I was hoping it was gunna be that too!:( now more google and UA-cam searches lol

bout time they added "broken belt" switches to them, years ago they didn't and people would run them for hours on end and wonder why the clothes didn't dry >_<
you can imagine how "hot" the drums got, but most were all metal then, not the silly plastic bars
