Lex Vance what's the part number for the switch I need a replacement
Thanx for the video Lex. $11 for a belt switch and $19 for the belt (was good but I replaced it anywaze) and I'm back in action. Saved $580 for a new dryer. A little testy getting the belt, motor and idler pulley together. Took a while, but got it done. Thanx again.
Whats that switch called? Thats my issue.
What's the name of the switch
thanks for video, yours is the most informative I've seen today. I was working on a GE Select DX4500EA3WW dryer, that would not tumble or spin. Not sure what the problem was, but I got it to run. Probably a loose wire, or something.
If it fails again, I'll be more confident about working on it, thanks to your video.
I literally looked up “dryer won’t stay on” and this video of the exact same dryer with the exact same issue popped up this was so helpful thank you!!
Awesome! Thank you so much for watching Angelina!
What is this dryer called
@@Skye12236 GE Dryer
Same here.... spooky
Same exact thing with me. Same model and problem.
I just want to thank you. As an extremely tired, stressed, exhausted mother of three with no dry school shirts for the morning… you put my mind at rest tonight. God bless you my dude ❤
You're welcome! Thank you so much for watching!
This is a great and helpful video that helped me fix my dryer today, although one critical detail was left out. If you're struggling while groping blindly to try and get the new belt around the pulley and the motor and feeling like the belt doesn't have enough slack to fit, there is a much easier way. Before you put the drum back in, look at the motor. It's against a metal plate which has a curved corner for seemingly no reason. Well, you can pull the pulley all the way towards you and the end bit will fit and hold right under that corner, that's what it's there for. Then put the drum with the belt on it in its place and you only have to rope the belt around the motor. Then let the pulley out from under the curved corner and it puts itself exactly into place without you having to maneuver three things at once sight unseen.
Thank you so much for watching Geshtal!
right on
✌ Thanks so much. My wife had a new $800 dryer picked out. Just like you showed, it was a broken belt. Quick trip to the parts store and I had it fixed. The only difficulty was that I never saw how the belt was to be routed so I tried to install it looped around the idler pulley. That made it seem like the belt was too long. Then I figured out that both of the lengths of the belt go on the same side of the idler pulley and all was good. Save $785 .
Nice fix! Thank you so much for watching!
This just happened to be the same exact issue on the same exact dryer I have. This was extremely informative without being too technical

I am having this same issue going to buy a belt tomorrow and pray I can get it done
I searched for “dryer won’t stay on”, like others here in the feed. Your video showed me my exact washer brand, same button and dials and same problem with the broken belt. Bought a new belt at Lowes and re-watched your video here. Dryer is working again. Thanks for showing how--you make it look easier than it is -->attaching the belt I mean. Just subscribed. Awesome! Thank you so much for watching kamadden!
Thank you for this. I installed a new belt and was suddenly having the symptoms of a bad interlock switch that you described. Dryer ran and spins but stops as soon as I let go of the on switch. Turns out I lifted up on the belt tensioner and pulled it up out of place so it was no longer touching the interlock switch. Put it back down against the switch, installed belt, now it’s running smooth and quiet. I was in the process of looking at a new $800 dryer and decided to try looking at the problem one last time. Thanks again.
You're welcome Matthew!
Thank you @darkstar189 same thing just happened to me with the tensioner being pulled up out of place, I would have booted it out the door before I figured that out on my own!
Your video literally saved me 350+ dollars appliance shop I called said that it was a motor. I decided to research myself before taking it in. I have the exact Same dryer with the exact same problem. Followed your steps and found the same issue. Appreciate your video!!

This is a beautiful video in every way. My dryer (GTDP280ED0WW) looks exactly the same as the one you fixed. Inexcusable that GE put the belt microswitch not only on the motor mount, making it difficult to test for continuity and almost as hard to replace as the motor, but with the screw heads angled up against the cabinet so you cannot replace the switch without at least sliding the motor mount partway out!
This microswitch on mine WAS bad, so I had to go all that way to replace it. Once I had it open, I discovered that the large metal plate underneath the console, painted with what looks like Army primer, has surface rust laying over all of it. We've had the dryer six years, but only use it three months a year. All that rust comes from the salt air in Florida. While waiting for Amazon to send me a switch, I gave that piece a coat of Rustoleum Primer, in the hope of keeping the dryer for a while.
My problem is with routing the belt over the tensioning pulley and under the motor pulley. The bent rod the tensioning pulley rides on doesn't want to go far enough to the right side of the dryer to put tension on it. I can't tell from the video whether the other end of the rod goes where mine does, forward from where it contacts the switch to the front where it is bent 90° to go up into a notch up in the front of the motor mounting plate. If it's the same, I must just not be putting enough muscle into forcing the pulley end to the right.
(It doesn't help that GE decided to route the vent pipe to the rear in the middle of the dryer and almost up to the drum, right where my hand wants to be when routing the belt.)
I'll be waiting to see whether you have a better way of putting that belt on. Thanks again for this video.

Just followed this video and repaired my dryer. This was the exact dryer and the exact problem and the installation went pretty smooth except for taking out the screws for the front door, and getting the belt back on the pulley wheel. Putting the drum back in and putting the top back on was a pain as well, but getting the belt back on the pulley properly was trash. It worked and saved me alot of money calling a repairman. Thanks so much for this video.
Do you know the model number of your dryer I have the same one and I need to replace the belt as well.
The model number is on ta sticker on the dryer door.
I changed the switch exactly as you instructed and my dryer now runs perfect! Thank you very much!

This video is four years old but it was exactly what I needed today. I was even able to show the technician where the screws were to remove the top... thanks!

Thank you for showing the part about the switch! I was thinking I needed to replace electric components until I watched that part. My problem was that during the troubleshooting process I removed the tensioner and forgot to place it behind that switch so it was not clicking.

If it wasn't for your video I would have been buying a new dryer. Long story short without your information about the interlock switch i was lost. I took it back apart only to realize the Pulley had popped out and was not engaging the switch. That was it! Thank you!!
Nice fix Chris! Thank you so much for watching!
Similar Model Dryer here for me. Almost 12 or so years old. Maybe a bit more. Same parts and all but Gas model. I redone the Drum "bearing" the plastic bits in front and also the sliders for bearings on this model. I also replaced the start switch up top as well. Wanted to test before reassembly and had seen this pulley switch but did not know what it was. I could start the machine but it would shut off. Seeing this video allowed me to "test" that my work was correct before reassembly by simply applying pressure to the pulley and switch. Without the Drum in the machine. Also I cleaned about 3 inches of lint out of the machine LOL. So thanks a bunch for the tip on the Pulley Switch.

I'm not doing so well reinstalling the belt now that I replaced the faulty microswitch. What was your secret other than "Took a while?"
Absolutely the best video I have seen on this power button issue, there are other videos but they do not show exactly how the belt loops around the tensioner, sure if we can see the area we are working on but like you said very tight space, thanks again

Great tutorial, I was able to replace the drum switch. It was a pain, as I have no experience taking apart a dryer, and did it all alone. I did it though! Sadly, the problem still persists. I replaced the start switch, too. Oh, well, at least I do know that the problem was neither of the switches. I also do know that the guy who looked at the dryer the first time did not check the drum switch at all--the dust webs were undisturbed. :) At least I can still use my dryer by taping down the start switch until I decide to replace it.
Wow way to go Carolyn!

Replaced the belt and had the same issue. (I didn't even know that switch existed until I saw this video.) @@LexVance After replacing the drum belt, I got into the problem of the machine not staying on. Following your video, I checked continuity of that click switch by the tensioner arm. That was where the problem was. The push button of the click switch was missing the rubber cap not allowing the tensioner arm to push all the way until the click switch made proper contact. Luckily, I found the rubber cap laying on the floor of the dryer assembly. Likely it got dislodge from the impact when the drum belt snapped. Reinstalled it and tested the click switch following your video. All is well!
