I own a bunch of AA plugins and I totally agree with you. Nickel (the black face) distorts a lot when getting gain reduction and it sounds bad to me. Even with the CORE 16 tech, it still costs a huge CPU usage. I love their products but they really need to improve most of the compressors.
I could never feel safe or at ease while trying to use an AA compressor, something feels really off, sometimes it can work, but many times it creates issues, and you need to really be careful and alert as they are prone to unexpected behaviours. I need to stop my mixing flow, and go to an adjusting AA compressor mode, it kills the fun, and I would probably loose perspective and momentum. With their EQ's it's a totally different experience, most of them are easy to setup, and more often than not, are good quality.
Thanks for your constant valuable content. I personally have ended up using less compressors (less models) over the years. the ones i can 100% rely on doing always the same and never crashing or doing funky unpredictable stuff. I really admire your drive and patience. I use Unisum, Kotelnikov GE, Dynone 3, weiss compressor 99% of the time. If i cant get the tone i desire then i use different additional tools like saturators or whatever i feel and move on. There is a point that a compressor does what it does and then you need something extra spicy. There are so many ways to get there.
very cool video thanks for your efforts. Would be cool to see you review the Nebula4 plugin and some of the libraries. The TimP DBX160 emulation was so shocking how close it is to the hardware.
A A plug-ins are always just weird for me. I have a fully speced, m1 max with all the ram etc. An some of their plugins still giving me pops an crackles. Or I’ll engage a pre on one an it just stutters. Now I’ve always used PC an switched to the Mac due to the impressive performance the M1 has (an with all other plugins is a dream to work on) so I’m not sure if their is a way to optimize AA plugs further on Mac OS that I’m not aware of. But out of the box the M1MAX with A A plugins still seem a bit out of reach. Don’t get me wrong I can run 5-10 in a mix easy. But they always cause hassle, or pop when moving knobs in them. It’s just an overall unpleasant experience to use an im pretty bumped about it because I was really looking forward to using more of them. But Until they can get the running more efficiently, I think imma wait a while before investing more in them.
Tried comparing pulsar 1178 and UBK-1 earlier with AA camel and didn’t expect camel to catch up and even sounded better to my ears. I think El rey, camel, magenta, and coffee comp are some of their best comps.
I just bought the Smoke Comp for Instruments, Vocals and Bass, Using N4 Yellow Opto on Drums and Lime channel or 2 Pres and Lime Comp and master bus...that set up is working perfect for me...
Thank you, I really like your work and approach, but however; I missed two important things with Nickel; the SOA adjustment (first thing to set), and the pre amp colour (this is also acctivated in the UAD....so why not adjust this in your test with Nickel?)
@@FoliaSound Acustica Plugins are VERY complicated. Even more with the "SOA". I know, AA is trying to get most out of convolution, but they forget a bit the user-friendlyness
I mostly agree with you and most of AAs compressors aren´t that good (exceptions for me would be Ultramarin, Aquamarin and Magenta) But have you tried N4 too? It´s the same tech, but the compressors from TImP and Cupwise are on another level and nothing comes close ITB

All that AA stuff is glitchy somehow or not working at all. Also their install and activation process and policy suck. Big time vibe killer. Just beeing honest...

I'm not a big fan of the AA-compressors. To me, they don't "feel" like the real hardware. With Eqs it's much easier to say. Really love them 😊

Well said, man. Thanks!

I'll review Nebula for sure!

Yeeea! Thanks! :)

Great video. Their new ones are a lot better. Nickel is a miss.
i guess it just depends which aa comp , magenta blows the other vari mus out the water , while nickel is lacking
Agreed!
Poland is a great country , beer , vodka , nice people , homemade cuisine , historical sites , breathtaking nature , u name it ...
All that is true, sir!

Hey, Bart, you won't see that in the edit, but I tweakee both SOA and harmonics, no better results, I'm sorry :(

I've got N4 here and it'll be a separate vid!

Porównał byś coś od Waves? najlepiej kompresory i limitery z plugin aliance oraz UAD

What I don't understand is why the names of the plug-ins do not match the UI color. Magenta is red and Nickel is black!?
Ah, I think there are little people who do :) We all should ask Acustica directly!
Yep, Magenta is clear winner.
I was quite shocked how much it won...
All that AA stuff is glitchy somehow or not working at all. Also their install and activation process and policy suck. Big time vibe killer. Just beeing honest...
Maybe a bit off topic, but that counts as well in my opinion...
The Aucustica Audio Smoke sounds better than all three...get the Smoke Comp....for $99
I'll surely check it out after your recommendation!
Nickel Sukks...LOL.....I think PSP....Fet Comp would blow them away.....
Yep, I can't make friends with Nickel, too...
When acoustica came in the beginning I though it was a scam :D
