  • Hellooo, people of the Web! I'm quite scared today, because they say that Nebula 4 by Acustica Audio is so overwhelming and complicated to use, that people are even afraid to try it... I'm sort of afraid, too, but let's try and see what happens!

acustica the company blows, some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered. the nebula tech is mostly great, minus Acustica. buy third party. sounds better supports better people.
ps if you have a stereo input you want to add harmonics it's more accurate to make two instances and run them dual mono. the env follower on nebula is mono so any stereo signal is possibly having unnecessary IMD added, cause Acustica. so if you had a drum bus with a shaker panned hard left that shaker is also effecting the right channel as far as the harmonics being generated. which is the cool thing about nebula, so a total pain but it's worth it. congrats on your 400 euro program with no lfo or stereo capability!
acustica just has a piss poor attitude for someone selling a "premium" product. azzimov the skin maker+3rd party have more passion and great sounding results than the actual company, it's not even a question or a claim- a cold hard fact backed up by 1300 pages of gearspace forum.

btw I own every single timp library, almost all Cupwise, working on alexb GE edition (not ge edition mehhhhh) stuff too. like his 609 is great. I just finished doing all those with custom skins last night on a new hd.
and to be clear, maybe- let's say with the SSL g you want to put it on the mix bus. if you have one instance of each (comp+pre) the compressor is reading the mid/mono signal for GR and applying the harmonics to mid and sides. if it was one compressor then two pres, one left one right then compressor is reacting to the mid signal for GR but the pres are getting the accurate harmonic info. and two comp and two pres split would be dual mono vs stereo. so basically you always want to split anything adding saturation to the sides into an additional two instances to avoid cross "contamination"

Seems great! I do want to get into these. Do I need to purchase N4 before purchasing libraries? I find it difficult to see how much it costs online!

Acustica is like going to a studio. Jump in, tweak some knobs, export tracks and close the CPU intensive session.
Then enjoy it "at home" with other "normal" plugins.
    Worth it.

to any nebula owners who are not patreons of Azzimov- CHANGE THAT IMMEDIATELY AND YOURE WELCOME. azzimov is a ukrainian dude who makes skins for 3rd party nebula libraries, its like 3 bucks a month and theyre as good looking as any big company imo, better a lot of the time. but not only that they often add a LARGE amount of functionality by being able to swap out different ratios etc.
no good reason to not support him and also upgrade your workflow. and hes got a page on tutorials for setups and is just a super nice guy. 3 bucks

TimP compressors are really good, but to get the whole package and sound don't forget to use with the pre instance. I was using just the la2a comp until a college point that to me and the sound gets to the fullest. This pres most of the times go after the comp.

Great video. Very helpful. Im currently wondering whether to invest in Nebula. I'd be interested to hear the difference between a Nebula compressor and a similar Aqua compressor plugin (one using Hyper and also the original core technology). And the difference in CPU usage between the two. Would you be open to doing a video like this?

I've just recently gotten into Acustica Audio myself, and I just love it! I record predominantly acoustic jazz, folk, and pop music, and I can't believe how amazing the convolution technology sounds on tracks, particularly on my upright bass, which has always been a struggle to get to sound rich and woody. The Acustica plugins make it sound like the music is coming from right inside the instrument - very sonorous and resonant. It's a total game changer. I'm using more vintage-y types like Tulip, El Rey, and Taupe, which fit my genre perfectly. I'm totally blown away on the night and day difference from my previous process. It's both a joy, and now very quick to dial in the sounds i want. I did venture into Nebula a few months ago. I didn't find it too difficult to set up, and it did sound great, but the work flow with the different setups and different parts and bits that needed to be assembled into chains was a bit cumbersome for me. I felt a bit lost in the weeds. For a bedroom/kitchen recording guy like myself, it was a bit too much of a process for the limited time in the day that I have. I did like the sound though. And now with your video that makes me think I should give it another look. You have laid it out very simply here, in a way that the other videos out there haven't. I appreciate that you've taken the time to do that for us. Cheers from Canada!

It was missing to place the Preamp section after the compressor in TimP's SSL, that's where the saturation and harmonics are produced. It would have been fairer and the difference would be even more noticeable, but excellent video anyway. I love nebula and I don't know why they haven't focused on perfecting this system and unifying everything.and of course with today's technology it could be easier to create new 3rd party profiles and without consuming so many resources. it's unbelievable that this technology is over 10 years old and there have been no big changes

    • @FoliaSound
      @FoliaSound  11 місяців тому +1

Yep, I forgot the preamp, sure :( It really shines with the preamp. I think that there are not too many ways of optimizing convolutiuon - it will never be really CPU light, our only hope is more and more computing power in new PCs :) Cheers!

Thank you for the excellent Nebula video. I have a lot of Acustica Audio plugins and Nebula too. I really like their analogue and distinctive sound, and evaluate their qualities in the Plugin Doctor. I use mostly Aqua plugins (I love how they look and they are easy to use) but this video is a great motivation to explore my Nebula libraries. I only have the Acustica's libraries. Could you share which non-Acustica libraries you prefer the most? I would appreciate it greatly. I really like your channel, and value your time and experienced opinions. Have a good day.

I missed the period where Nebula switched from 3 to 4. Missed the upgrade period. A lot was happening. You know.... Life! Ended up being a pretty good chunk of time away from recording 😂 Then later, i wanted to too at least be able to use all the many, many libraries I had previously purchased. Made many requests to them to get the link to download version 3. Not one reply. I may have ended up getting nebula 4, But the experience was so frustrating. Worst customer service ever. I didn't feel right investing in them again. Though I love so many third party nebula libraries. They make some decent ones themselves. But the experience was terrible. Especially done there are so many really good algorithmic plugins these days. They're catching up.
