    Input Labs here, thanks a lot for the review @RambleCan !
    Just to clarify, yes, remapping will be possible in the future, and meanwhile it is also easy to remap jump/crouch/etc on the game settings.
    Also for USB-C and wireless, these will come eventually. We are working on it.
    Thanks!

    I achieved the same method of playing by attaching conductive fabric tape to the touchpad of the Dualsense connected to the middle of the face buttons, with gyro touch enabled to get the same result. After a few hours, relying on gyro for all camera movements is a detriment in my opinion. I just found my hands moving way more than I normally would if I had a right thumbstick or touchpad to do the wider movements. In saying that, I still want to try an alpakka

    • @shapaco89
      @shapaco89 Рік тому

      hey what kind of tape did you use. I tried it with a piece of tin foil and put tape over and it worked. The problem was that if the piece of tin foil was to big the gyro wouldnt turn off imedeately after releasing, but with a delay. The other problem is that sometimes it wouldnt work at all, typically the next day it wouldnt work anymore.

    My immediate thought is that the two plates under the D pad and face buttons should somehow double as touchpads. That way you could choose your input method, and even have some extra functionality.

      Apex 3 definitely looks like a downgrade to me. I personally would still look to the Vader 2 for the most versatility. I got the Direwolf but it isn't supported in ReWasd yet plus it has less input options than Vader 2 and Apex 2.

      @@RambleCan I have a Vader 2 Pro (one that works on the Switch) and I like it a lot, but it has developed the same problem as my Apex 2: the left stick has become “squeaky”. So I'm looking at either another Vader 2 Pro or an Apex 3. Or trying to find a solution for squeaky sticks. 🤷

    I do gecha when it comes to stagnation. My favorite controller for PC is my Rumblepad 2, and the only difference between it and Dualshock for the PS1 is the grips are a little fatter, and the triggers overlap my middle fingers a bit more. Yeah, you had analog triggers on the DS3 and the singular touchpad of the DS4, but the Dualsense is literally just a DS4 that looks like an Xbox controller (did any of them have gyro? I can't remember). Then Xbox has had functionally the exact same controller since the 360.
    I get "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and I will say I find those more functional than say a GNC controller. But I do agree some innovation needs to be made. One thing I'm a bit miffed about is the fact that that trackball controller kickstarter fell through. That thing looked legit.
    Oddly enough, I really liked the idea behind the Steam controller, it was just too big, and it offered the worst of both. I want comfortable simplicity that comes with controller when I use one, but I want functional precision of KB+M when I use that. The touch pads don't give me the level of control of a proper mouse, nor the number of buttons from a keyboard, while at the same time requiring more effort and thought to use than a simple right stick. Not to mention that I could not comfortably get to the shoulder buttons.
    This thing looks neat. Not really my cup of tea, but interesting none the less.

    • @bland9876
      @bland9876 Рік тому +1

      Do you mean the cyberforce rumble pad because that is an interesting controller having six face buttons? That thing is huge like the Duke controller except it's PlayStation layout and then the face buttons actually are smaller because of the six.

    • @bland9876
      @bland9876 Рік тому +1

      Not being able to get to the surely buttons is not something that I've had an issue with except for when using the Wii U gamepad.

      @@bland9876 Nope, Logitech Rumblepad 2. It predates their current line of gamepads, being wired with monochromatic numbered buttons.

      @@galvanizeddreamer2051 yep that's what I'm talking about. There are 2 Saitek controller. 1 has 4 shoulder buttons the other only 2. I have the 2 button version. Tha alpakka to me looks like half great ideas and the other off the wrong ideas : I honestly think that ratcheting is not the future of gyro gaming. Between touch pads, capacitive sticks and Flick Stick, gamers have learned of better ways to handle gyro. Otherwise, I'm very happy with a stick for movement, access to a scroll wheel, back buttons and full size dpad and face buttons.

    • @caleasthetic
      @caleasthetic 9 місяців тому

      what do you personally is the future for gyro. Flick stick? or gyro on ADS only. I have tried ratcheting with two joycons and it feels great. But i mostly stick to flick stick. especially with the new steam gyro update now using pixel per revoution for the gyro aswell (only on the beta).

  • @CreediusMaximus

    Have you tried that controller with star citizen? I have had to step away from the steam controller for star citizen lately because the use of the interact button doesnt work correctly anymore. Only way to make it work is assign it to "A" or something like that and set the interaction to be toggled and not have to hold to button to interact. When its setup to be held, the interact icon in the game acts like you are pressing and letting go over and over again. This controller looks interesting since it has the scroll wheel, but honestly looks like a rough controller to get used to.

    • @RambleCan
      @RambleCan  Рік тому

      I haven't. A major limitation of this controller is that you can't remap the controls on it easily. You have a few profiles the devs have created and then you have to rebind in games to what those buttons are assigned to. Eventually they plan to have a remapping system.
      On the Star Citizen / Steam Controller point... that's incredibly frustrating to hear. I think updates to steam input broke my config due to how layers work. Idk. I'm sorry it stopped working but steam input got so annoying to use lately that I'm abandoned it.

    Gotta say, using the Azeron keyboard (looks like an upside down dead spider with keys everywhere near and above your finger tips) and a mouse is a great alternative to keyboard and mouse . It's a damn good bit of gear, especially using REWASD software with it 👍

    Is this controller intended for a higher sensitivity? Is there a bind to make the sensitivity temporarily lower for more precise aiming perhaps?

    • @RambleCan
      @RambleCan  Рік тому +1

      There's nothing on it to temporarily lower the sensitivity as far as I'm aware. Like I say in the vid, I do think I tend to play with a lower sensitivity than some but still, I was able to pull a 180 turn with roughly a 45 degree turn. I didn't change the sensitivity in game, this is the default (and you currently can't change the sensitivity on the controller).

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216
      @aboveaveragebayleaf9216 Рік тому

      @RambleCan like on steam controller/deck I do a relatively high gyro sensitivity for tf2, but have right trigger soft pull do 30-40% dampening, and full pull fire. This let's me make quick "flicks", but also let's me do the soft pull for more precise shots.

    I've never had a need to remap the controls on the actual controller. It's easy to remap the controls in-game, which is what input labs intends for you to do 99% of the time...

    • @RambleCan
      @RambleCan  7 місяців тому

      You can remap now via the Ctrl App. I did a video on that not too long ago.

    • @HumanShield117
      @HumanShield117 7 місяців тому

      @@RambleCan that actually upsets me a bit. The only thing the end-user really needs to be able to remap is changing gyro to emulate a mouse vs analogue stick, and what button activates glyph-stick.
      The Alpakka-way of editing the controls, using your jump/crouch example would be to open the game, and tell it that space=crouch, not editing the layout of the Alpakka.

    • @RambleCan
      @RambleCan  7 місяців тому

      I don't quite agree about the "Alpakka-way" since they've made the browser remapping app.

    • @HumanShield117
      @HumanShield117 7 місяців тому

      Well, it was inputLabs own documentation that made a big deal about "no drivers, no configurator, because you don't need it." But I'll have to get home and look in over before saying much more. I'm not against a configurator, but considering the effort they went to so you don't need one...
      On another note, I don't get what everyone hates about MicroUSB. 5 years ago, it was the best option available. It hasn't gotten worse since then, even if there are better options...
      But the reason the Alpakka uses MicroUSB is that they actually just solder a Raspberry Pi pico to the back of their custom PCB. Maybe future versions will run on an RP2040 built into their own PCB...
