Hi I am a DOOM gamer and Boltgun is my first Warhammer40k experience as I wanted to get into the franchise. All I have to say about this game is one word quoted by Ash Williams “Groovy…”
Something worth noting too that helps with the immersion of playing as a space marine, on controller, every time you run and jump, you feel the impact through the controller vibration, such a great touch
This is literally brutal doom but 40k and that is perfection. Add the connection to space marine and its just a chefs kiss to the finest of violent meals

The issue is many Warhammer games have an issue keeping any form of player base or the mechanics are just worse versions of better games. That being said I do generally enjoy most Warhammer games I play.

The screen when you're picking the difficulty just screams character selection. Imagine playing as a melee focused space wolf, a grey Knight that can cast spells, a blood angel that goes stupidly fast with a jump pack. I would love for this to have multiplayer

Wolf guard: Melee attacks have a damage increase and hp drops upon melee kill. Grey knight: grenade is turned into a smite that locks-on to a single target but has a reduced blast radius, deamons receive x2 damage, player receive less damage from warp based attacks. Emperor's champion: Only equipped with a black sword and a bolt pistol (smaller magazine boltgun) melee damage does x3 damage and contempt refills over time to a max of 100 over 20 seconds
also fitting, vs the chaos marines, we *are* a sternguard, so we're at least an elite and maybe bit enraged one. I love how accurate the bolter is at range, taking shots into silhouettes at a distance and 1-3 shotting (depending on the foe) like it's nothing. But also going on a rampage like I did through that cavern in lvl 2 (I just can't stop when the chainsword's going!). SUPER fun imo.
This game is proof that you don't need insane graphics or convoluted gameplay mechanics to craft an amazing game. I also love how it's only around $20 and still offers around 9 hours of gameplay.
fun fact: If you get the Machine Spirit token for the Boltgun (and not other weapons), besides the upgrade in strength, it also gives you bigger mag capacity (40 instead of 25), which you can chain with the box mag powerup (kraken bolter rounds) and get 100 rounds instead of 60.
Imagine how insignifigant a chaos space marine must feel returning to the warp after that, a single, not squad of, a SINGLE sterngard veteran obliterates the entire defensive force you were a part with only a boltgun moments after barely surviving a crash landing.
I like how even though you move like a refrigerator you still move fast asf. Which is lore accurate to how space marines move. Heavy and Fast. Just imagine the POV of the heretic guard, seeing a marine down the long hallway and not a second later the marine is on top of them.
Ironically there’s a chance the chaos marines could be Disciples of Nemeroth given this is a like half sequel from space marine 1. I know they look like definitive black legion, but the Nemeroth color scheme is a slightly more purple ish black so it’s very close anyway
Not sure if you've seen it yet, but on the "retro" bar in the settings menu, you can change how the game looks to give a more old school feeling to the game. It's actually really fun to try play through with those settings maxed
The loadout style screen that specifically shows you that you're playing a Sternguard, and then shows their skills and the like makes me wonder if they're going to release updates or DLC for new Marine classes to play as. Imagine stomping around as a Gravis Captain, or screaming terror into the hearts of enemies as a Reiver, etc.

Whenever you would gain Corruption Points, reduce the amount you would earn by 1. In addition, you may Test Willpower as a Free Action to ignore the effects of your accumulated Corruption for one Round.

Man, 40k fans have been eating good on the video game front for the past couple years. Between this, Darktide, Mechanicus, and the Space Marine sequel and Rogue Trader games coming out soon, this has been an awesome time to be a fan of the setting.
The secret in the first level is pretty clever I thought. That last room, where you picked up the relic shield for 200 contempt is nearly a 1:1 replica of the start room of e1m1 from Doom. Theres no switch on the pillar, but the wall can be activated to open up for a hidden pickup.
Between the Inquisitors opening monologue and the UI showing off your character at the difficulty screen it really seems like they plan to have alternate characters to play as.

I was thinking that too, either different style marines and/or a veteran from other chapters with chapter specific abilities.
If I recall correctly the devs said they wanted to make a combination of 40k and DOOM, and damned if they didn't deliver on that promise.

I didn't notice it on my playthrough but on "mountain batteries" there seems to be a destroyed titan in the background

Man, 40k fans have been eating good on the video game front for the past couple years. Between this, Darktide, Mechanicus, and the Space Marine sequel and Rogue Trader games coming out soon, this has been an awesome time to be a fan of the setting.

The secret in the first level is pretty clever I thought.
That last room, where you picked up the relic shield for 200 contempt is nearly a 1:1 replica of the start room of e1m1 from Doom. Theres no switch on the pillar, but the wall can be activated to open up for a hidden pickup.
Between the Inquisitors opening monologue and the UI showing off your character at the difficulty screen it really seems like they plan to have alternate characters to play as.

Loved the Doom E1:M1 reference with the final ambush room, and the armour up the stairs on the left side
Bricky, you missed firing the chance to fire the giant cannons at 20:45
I think my favorite part about this game is that the weapons do the same(ish) damage across all difficulties

This game has replaced old school Doom for me, it's that GOOD!
totally worth the 20$ on steam. blew through this in one day was pure fun. no BS. just you guns and the enemy.

I like Bricky because he appreciates the importance of vocal strength and deepness in these games.
