Throughout the rest of the day, he prob fell about 8 times thanks to his weakened right knee. During the process of all the calls, he tore damn near EVERY ligament in both knees. I tore my ACL on my right knee in 2015 playing soccer. I was in the 8th grade. Now I'm 22, 1 year 6 months into powerlifting. My max for deadlift is 455 and 345 for squats. I don't notice anything wrong in deadlifts (I've pulled 455 conventional, 425 sumo), however, for squats it's just a lot of mental fear. I don't necessarily max out on squats due to my ACL tear fear and other fears as well like a quad tendon tear. So I just shoot for triples. In competition or mock meets, my jumps for squats are also very small, maybe 10 lbs. My last meet I did, 315, 330, 341. People tend to judge me for that, but it's just fear based on that experience. I'm just happy and grateful to do what I love. For those that have suffered a similar injury or going through it, it takes time but it gets better. Just be smart and safe. You're better off adding 10-20 lbs per year to your squat, than potentially being under the knife again.

    How did this happen? Surely it was a relatively similar working weight like not 200% of his 1RM. Did he mis groove very badly causing the fall? Amazing story tho and he’s gonna come back stronger mentally and eventually physically!

      They actually describe it in another video in this channel.(ua-cam.com/video/56e6h129sxU/v-deo.html) He went slightly above his PR. Your knee is at the most risk of an acl tear when is flexed at 15-30 degrees. When you go above your max strength or if there’s an imbalance in quads vs hams, the weight above that relies on your ligaments. In this case it was too much , the ligament broke, his tibias went forward without control and the force from the falling weights crushed the remaining ligaments.
      While squating parallel or close to, your knees withstand pressure in that dangerous range of motion for longer periods of time. Bellow parallel deep in the squat there’s a phenomenon called packing where your muscles are the ones supporting the tension on the knee. Also, since you squat less weight deep your are farther from the point of peak strength from quads and hams.

    How do you prevent this?

    • @MarceloArzubialdeRodriguez
      @MarceloArzubialdeRodriguez Рік тому +2

      Everyone saying “too much weight” and of course that’s true. It looks like his knees were breaking with that weight no matter what, of course it wouldn’t be that fatal if they saved him.
      In general you can only add preventive equipment.
      That’s knee pads, belt if needed, (he was using these things but not everyone does, even if they are attempting 2Rep max. Of course minor weights are safer for joints, but if you are challenging your current muscular and tendons max strength it always be dangerous no matter if it’s 20kg in squat, the risk, I understand, is to let the joints do the hard work by technical failure, that could led to loose the stability and where the bad shit begins), and,
      now, the thing that failed this man were spotters, I don’t think is their fault, you know you hate when spotters ruin your rep. That’s why you need two bars at both sides with the proper height, it could’ve ended as a single knee bad injury, not double FATAL injury though.
      Even if it limits a little your motion range, is not worth it. Any minimal injury yis not worth it. Now you choose.

    Don't forget the 3rd one;
    chronic back pain because the bottom vertebrae has slipped froward and is resting on the edge of your sacrum, dragging the entire nerve-root with it casing nerve damage and excruciating pain every day. This also triggers a chain-reaction of other pain-in-the-ass symptomes caused by the forward tilted hip and misplaced nerve-root.
