In my many years taking pictures of girls that could be my daughters or grand daughters I've said many things like that. For example: Don't you think I look like Tom Cruise (to make them laugh) and then they look at me seriously and say änd who is that Tom?". I haven't realized that Tom Cruise is now a 50+ year old man and the model is 18 or 19 years old............Again, that was funny and brought back remembrances of many laughs back to me.

"Select your background first." That's one tip I forget too often. I think this reminder will help a lot. While I'm photographing old people in nursing homes, you're outside shooting a beautiful young model. Wanna trade? "Pay attention to subject's appearance." I'll admit - I miss that one sometimes. Something like a collar not straight or just something minor like that. I always use an incident light meter, so it's right probably 99.99% of the time. When I can, I shoot tethered. Either way, I always look at what was just shot. It's a great tool we didn't have in the film days. "...even my mother-in-law." I bet you're not going home tonight. I've never heard anyone talk about establishing shots before. I usually do them, but I really never gave it much thought. I'm definitely going to watch your tutorial about it. I'll say it again: Andrew is BY FAR the best photography instructor I've ever seen. I've gone through the eLearning classes and the Premium Courses. WOW! There are so many tips in there that I've never heard anyone else talk about. Those programs are good for people just now starting out or long-time photographers. I'm so glad I found this channel. With so many people into photography these days, you really have to know a LOT to stand out from the crowd. Thanks, Andrew and the entire Beyond Photography team! I know this comment was much too long, but there was so much info in this video and I got so excited about it, I couldn't help myself.

It's like you are hanging out inside my mind and know what it is I would like to ask, just in this episode alone you've answered meany questions I had about background blur when is it to much , Or not enough, and so on, I truly have a renewed and Enthusiastic mind set for deeper learning when it comes to photography as I am truly a beginner, I understand a persons equipment does not make a great photographer but it is the ability to understand and the willingness to always wont to learn more that helps a person be the best they can be, I appreciate your help Thanks again cheers to and your team.

Each advice is useful and makes sense. However, I couldn't help noticing that literally every single photo has a crooked horizon. Personally, I wouldn't like my photos to look like that.

Wow they want the background.. so much for that expensive lens, you can do that with the cheapest lens.. I recommend getting a depth of field calculator for your phone and you can find the infinity depth or whatever it's called. The point where everything will be in focus. I've found that a super wide angle will typically always have everything be in focus even in f4. So if you want to save light for lower iso and fast enough shutter speed then a wider focal length lens like 35 or lower will typically have sharp backgrounds even at lower f stops.

Not quite agree with the "background too blurred" statement. It is depend on the scenario. Also the flash and metering... The outcome is very 80s and really like a shoot with fake background... Natural light is great and overexposed background is ok. As long as the face is not over or under exposure... The rest just some tricks... Cheers.

I love the part about how to meter for using fill flash. I never use the flash, but I think that will ease me fears. Good video, but I’m a little confused about why tip 1 is DON’T blur the background and tip 2 is don’t NOT blur the background.

No, they're not. You can try to grab two cameras, a model, take some photos with one camera, while you record the proccess with the other one, explain it, edit the video, upload it to UA-cam, then you can do comment things like that. But if you're not doing that, you just watch and enjoy the video.

"Select your background first." That's one tip I forget too often. I think this reminder will help a lot. While I'm photographing old people in nursing homes, you're outside shooting a beautiful young model. Wanna trade? "Pay attention to subject's appearance." I'll admit - I miss that one sometimes. Something like a collar not straight or just something minor like that. I always use an incident light meter, so it's right probably 99.99% of the time. When I can, I shoot tethered. Either way, I always look at what was just shot. It's a great tool we didn't have in the film days. "...even my mother-in-law." I bet you're not going home tonight. I've never heard anyone talk about establishing shots before. I usually do them, but I really never gave it much thought. I'm definitely going to watch your tutorial about it. I'll say it again: Andrew is BY FAR the best photography instructor I've ever seen. I've gone through the eLearning classes and the Premium Courses. WOW! There are so many tips in there that I've never heard anyone else talk about. Those programs are good for people just now starting out or long-time photographers. I'm so glad I found this channel. With so many people into photography these days, you really have to know a LOT to stand out from the crowd. Thanks, Andrew and the entire Beyond Photography team! I know this comment was much too long, but there was so much info in this video and I got so excited about it, I couldn't help myself.

Each advice is useful and makes sense. However, I couldn't help noticing that literally every single photo has a crooked horizon. Personally, I wouldn't like my photos to look like that.

Wow they want the background.. so much for that expensive lens, you can do that with the cheapest lens.. I recommend getting a depth of field calculator for your phone and you can find the infinity depth or whatever it's called. The point where everything will be in focus. I've found that a super wide angle will typically always have everything be in focus even in f4. So if you want to save light for lower iso and fast enough shutter speed then a wider focal length lens like 35 or lower will typically have sharp backgrounds even at lower f stops.

Not quite agree with the "background too blurred" statement. It is depend on the scenario. Also the flash and metering... The outcome is very 80s and really like a shoot with fake background... Natural light is great and overexposed background is ok. As long as the face is not over or under exposure... The rest just some tricks... Cheers.

Please turn it off as it is very annoying and distracts me from hearing what you have to say. I love the part about how to meter for using fill flash. I never use the flash, but I think that will ease me fears. Good video, but I’m a little confused about why tip 1 is DON’T blur the background and tip 2 is don’t NOT blur the background.
Balance pergaps? Not too blurred, not too clear where there is no separation

No, they're not. You can try to grab two cameras, a model, take some photos with one camera, while you record the proccess with the other one, explain it, edit the video, upload it to UA-cam, then you can do comment things like that. But if you're not doing that, you just watch and enjoy the video.
