While I worked in advertising, I would always sit with a client with 10 creatives & ask them to pick out the ones they didnt like, then we'd discuss why. Thats what I do with photos, too... I seem to learn more about what they want by telling me what they don't want.
Burst shots - I use burst shot when I work with new models because it makes them laugh. I let the shutter flutter enough times to make them crack a smile...and those last two bracketed shots are always gold...and then all the photos after show a model more at ease and more natural. I love your channel!

Hi Andrew, where is the video about winning photo competitions? I love your videos, and you make learning so easy. Thank you for making your learning so enjoyable.
I like to add to the use burst shots: for group photos, I often shoot two to four shots depending on numbers of people in the shot. The reason why is people blink and their smile not happen at the same time. This way I always able to get people to have their eyes bright and good smiles.

I agree with your advice! Just take your own style of photos, experiment, be creative, brush off negative comments (with the music 'It's your thing, do what you wanna' do' music in the background). I learned to take pictures using manual mode because I had no other option. The first camera that I bought in 1973 was a Minolta SRT-101. Then switched to Minolta XD-11 when I stupidly lost my camera gear by putting it on top of the roof of my car and driving off. I took photos of youth track & field events as a hobby and sold my B&W prints to the youth athletes. I miss the days when I processed and printed my own B&W negatives/photos. Do you have videos of how to use lightroom and photoshop?
I have only just discovered you. I would like to apologise for obviously living under a rock for so long. I have now watched several of your videos and have learnt so much already. Starting off, I wanted to say, great lesson, Andrew! That's the I shoot RAW guy, Jared Polin (Froknowsphoto). I used to look up to him as a beginner photographer until he turned into more of a review-type channel and let his ego take over. I stopped watching him a few years ago and found you. Best decision ever! I personally like both the white background and the home background. When you have the white background I think more of in a classroom type of lesson and this background you have now. I feel a more personal 1 on 1 type of lesson. As far as shooting RAW or Jpeg I have my camera set up to take in both formats. So, If I need to go back and retouch some spots in the photo I have the RAW file as a backup. For burst shooting, I would say Wildlife photography would be good for burst shooting as far as taking an action shot of the animal running or an Eagle grabbing a fish out of the water. I would also say Aerial Photos. Taking photos of planes doing stunts during an aerial show. Other than that, burst would mainly be used for the reasons you mentioned in the video.
I do watch Jared Polin sometimes but most of the time I don't take him seriously, just like with Ken Rockwell who is the opposite of Jared. Still, he does offer some good tips (like not leaving dead overhead space when shooting portraits), and he actually has good shots to back him up, unlike Tony Northrup who mainly just clickbaits and gets a lot of fundamentals wrong. For learning Andrew is now among my watch list for actually useful tips. I also find Manny Ortiz (portraits), Nigel Danson (landscape), Micael Widell (macro), and Adorama TV interesting since they offer cool tips to improve my own photos. Then there's Joe McNally who is a flash wizard and a great teacher (the only problem is that many of his videos are not on his channel or not even on UA-cam).
@@GeminionRay Similarly I used to watch Jared Polin but I dislike his review of almost everything. And I do agree that Ken Rockwell praises every product under the sun (I bought a lens once due to his good review and I regret buying it till now). Although I notice that northrup are too critical of every product that is not of his preferences (or a fanboy as other might refer him), I prefer him over jared because he always expose the marketing tricks used by camera company and he usually explains technical stuff academically (although sometimes can be too much info to be understood). But to me all of them are reviewers, so I do get it that reviews are mostly gonna be biased towards reviewers preferences. If I want to learn tricks or techniques, I will go to this channel (portrait), mark denney (landscape), duade patton (wildlife) and several others that give specific review or knowledge based on specific genre of shooting.
I love your videos. I do prefer the "White Background" when you are explaining things because there are NO distractions. Being 78 years old I don't concentrate as well. Thanks again for all your videos.
Thank you Andrew for another excellent video on photography.. your knowledge on the subject is phenomenal! Regarding burst shooting, i found the mode very useful when capturing children or pets, especially my frisky dog!

I shoot both. RAW & Jpeg simultaneously. So it's important I show up a little early to white balance and exposure balance. I give the Jpeg sooc to clients and use the raw for printing and high definition editing(which I charge a little bit more and by image).
I only shoot RAW because I'm an amateur who doesn't know squat about photography and the ability to edit in post is a saving grace. For the background, either set up a poll and choose democratically, or do whatever you feel is best and forget what commenters say. It's mostly going to be the people with the strongest feelings towards either option, but the reality is that most don't care for the background as much as for good content.

Simple use a black wall 🤷. White wall is too fright and drains the battery. Clutter in the bg is bad for teaching. Black wall solves the issue. Or use 18% grey.
Andrew I've been watching your videos for years and I'm extremely impressed by how you improved this channel 😍 And also how much you refused to follow the sheep and you say what's RIGHT not what's trendy. SUPERB WORK!!!

Thank you for listening Andrew. While you are right that there isn't much difference in power consumption in using different colors, for super AMOLED screens for example, a white background consumes up to 44% more battery than a black background. I appreciate your work and dedication to the art!

Very informative video as always - Thank You! Outside of those scenarios you mentioned for burst shots... it's also beneficial to utilize when shooting kids or for the bouquet toss at a wedding 🤙
Isnt it best to just always keep it in burst mode, since it just one less setting you have to hassle with? In other words, if you need a single shot, just tap once. If you decide subject or if subject decides to move, you don't have to switch settings?
I only shoot raw because this entire decade long pursuit of photography is only a hobby for me and will always be only a hobby for me. I don’t have to think about being an exif photographer or what clients think or what other photographers think. Watching these videos makes me even happier that I don’t have to take photographs to feed myself or my children.

burst shot is a must for me. cause most of my shot is student doing an activity in chaos way. i have no choice cause i'm not good at shutter speed control and they do it indoor, so less light. apart of that i'm not using that mode.

White wall actually do drain your battery more compared to a black background if you are using a phone which has an OLED display, since each individual pixels have to light up to show the white wall, whereas a dark/black background does not require the pixels to fully light up.
as a beginner, i ve been using burst to help with sharper images - theory is the first shot has motion blur from shutter press. not sure if i actually need to ocntinue.
It's amazing and very interactive.

First of all I love your topics and how you explain them in detail. My compliments and appreciation. Keep up the great work. Second I prefer the blurred background. Use the white when necessary, but otherwise it's hard on my eyes. I keep having to look away repeatedly.

Ah, the burst shot... I sat in a bird hide with photographers. We were looking at some juvenile eagles that weren't moving much. It sounded like I was sitting with some machine gunners in there... Clickclickickicicicicick
Hehe yup, the sound it makes 😁.

I use burst for air shows, and drag races. Same concept as a runner crossing the finish line, I guess. Good video!
Agree with you. Burst works well for movement and motion capture. Thanks for your comment 😍. Don't miss our great promos and sign-up NOW before they end. To sign-up, go here beyond.photos

Simple use a black wall 🤷. White wall is too fright and drains the battery. Clutter in the bg is bad for teaching. Black wall solves the issue. Or use 18% grey.

I heard using slowest burst shot of 2-3 FPS might help those with no IBIS or quite shaky hands to hopefully avoid a blurry photo of a static subject

I always use burst mode for portraits to avoid models blinking their eyes and you have more options during post. This also applied to other things as well.

Thank you for listening Andrew. While you are right that there isn't much difference in power consumption in using different colors, for super AMOLED screens for example, a white background consumes up to 44% more battery than a black background. I appreciate your work and dedication to the art!
thnak you too for the feedback. yes, for Amoled screens, it does save power. thank you for dropping by and enjoying the video, Andre

I think it's awesome that you are able to pursue photography as a hobby. Shooting raw is good 😊.

burst shot is a must for me. cause most of my shot is student doing an activity in chaos way.
i have no choice cause i'm not good at shutter speed control and they do it indoor, so less light.
apart of that i'm not using that mode.
Yes, burst shot is really good for moving shot. For more E-Learnings, visit us at beyond.photos ... Don't miss our great promos and subscribe NOW before they end 😊.

This was interesting, provided food for thought. Thanks.
