What a lovely sounding synth brings back so many memories of the 80s this is my favorite synth of all time, along with the other juno range from the 80s i wish i had one great vid.
Not my favourite Juno, that honor is reserved for the Juno-6, but the Juno-106 is a beautiful, lush-sounding and very versatile instrument. This video is an excellent showcase of it's range.
I miss my 106 very much every time I hear someone play one..but it was being disused and a friend in a band needed a replacement for their broken Juno-6..It thought it would be nice to give it a better home.
Yeah, mine costs like 2k around 1984. So sorry I lost it in pawn being a very stupid teen, kills me. But now I have a Xp-30, Jv-880, Fantom X-6, D-110, U-110. So to say I should be able to match most sounds from the 80's til now?
Estupenda demo!! Pero alguien tenía que hacerlo, parece que el único Juno grande sea el 60, y el sonido del 106 bien editado es precioso, aunque diferentes... Buen trabajo! Great demo! But someone had to do it, it seems that the only larger Juno 60, and 106 well-edited sound is beautiful, but different ... Good job! Gracias AnalogAudio !
Really been wanting to get a Juno 106. I've been using vsts for a while and wanted the Juno to be my first real synth. I'm in love with the sounds that come out of this damn thing, do you guys think this would be a good first purchase? I also feel like I'd get more inspiration off of this rather than my usual vsts I usez
Yes, it has a clear layout, easy to understand, not too many parameters, but the right ones and it sounds great. That's why it's a classic. Great synth to begin with!
Juno = simple & straight, thats the beauty with it (them)... bright freq. on this one tend to sound sharp/thin sometimes (like JX-8P). The bass machine for Dr. Alban's 'no coke'! Roland's Ikutaro Kakehashi: "... the surface looks analog, but inside everything is controlled by a cpu. Overall it's about 80% digital and 20% analog..." (P.Forrest) Amazing statement compared to the warm & analog sound of the 106... well done!
One of the best demos on UA-cam for the 106! As always, great programming! By the way, how come you have transposed the keyboard if you know what I mean? Watched your hands in the beginning of the video and thought "Wait, that's not a C chord..." . I'm not criticizing or anything, just curious if there was a thought or reason involved. :)
The one thing that bugs me, beside the chip problem, is the Roland logo on the back panel, is much too high. a small thing, but it doesn't look right.great sounds by the way. so lucky to own one of these. £35 with hard flight case.I pracically ran out of the second hand shop.
I’ve yet to find a synth like this at a second hand shop. Old casios and cheap Yamaha boards are in abundance. Keeping my eyes peeled of course. Congrats on the find
thank you, Adrian. the secondhand shop was called Aladins cave. When it first opened, I don't think they had a clue about prices, especially synthesizers. I was very lucky, I knew what it was and the cost in good working order. I've heard of people coming across synths for peanuts at garage sales, car boots, House clearances auctions etc. unless you're into synths, many people don't have a clue, maybe by brand Roland etc. Worth checking out these places. Don't underate Casio, VL tones, I've seen them for sale for £120.If a synth is cheap enough, take the gamble,It might work, or if not, maybe can be repaired. keep lokking and good luck. Love your demo, excellent sounds. All the best moog.
i'd like yo hear more demos with a drum machine and bass. Or does anyone know cool instrumental synth, electropop, synthpop songs (80s style) that you could recommend? Thanks
Sounds like a triangle with the lfo tampering with the pitch. I could be wrong. I'm still learning how to distinguish, squares, tris, saw, pulse, when they are in poly synths. super easy with mono synths. I try to figure out how things are programmed by taking single cycle examples of my novation bass station ii and stacking them to make pads playable in Ableton Live's sampler.
I've never understood the retro appeal of the 106, other than the hands-on interface. It was released as a budget synth (which is why there are so many out there). I had one in the 80s and found it thin for an analog when compared to the other Roland synths. With only a single DCO, you have to chorus it up to get anything decent. The chorus *is* nice, but it gets old quickly. It didn't have separate envelopes for filter and VCA, and only basic LFO.
sure, although the 106 is limited, it gives you useful and good quality "bread and butter" analog sounds for your music. A Jupiter-8 may be better, but it also costs a lot more...
You don't have to always use the chorus as each preset is different, most of the presets sound better without it depends what your taste is still a great vintage synth.
chiperta It's a good synth, but the prices it gets on eBay are way out of scale with its capabilities. It's more about hype and rose-colored glasses, IMO.
Pete Brown It's all rose-colored glasses nowadays but not back then this was a great synth that's why kenny g used one in his band in 87 and like all other top bands, but i know what you mean, they are abit pricey just like all the other vintage synths, but hey, they are from the 80s great era for synths, music, and breakdancing lol.
Pete Brown, Will you be so kind to offer us a couple recommendations on synths? I'm looking to purchase my first one. Space echo vocals, digital sampler playing dirty vinyl loops and hip-hop/disco drum breaks. An electronic sound will be a great touch.
Do you want these patches (sounds) for your JUNO-106? You can buy these patches. Read the video description for details.
The Roland Juno-106 patch "Synth Bells" was heard in the song "Tell it to My Heart" (1987).
This synth has a heart and soul and is a mutant from time past! Great sounding synth - one of my favourites!
Juno 106 was my first synth. Truly a love affair.
Beautiful sounds, one of the great 80s polyphonic synthesizers.
I just love his simple, pure and wonderful sound... Juno is the queen of beauty in synthesizers...
Such a simple design and yet so many fascinating and useable sounds. A true classic.
It definitely is...
This is one of the best sounding demos I ever heard.
Thanks :-)

Sounds gorgeous. Really nice work.
I had to listen multiple times just because it was so pleasant to listen to.
Thank you! Pleased to hear this
Fantastic Sound! Thanks. ;)
Very nice preset. Had a Juno-106 before loved it. Sold it for softsynth now im back to analog with Moog slim Phatty ( i sample it for polyphonic.)
Awesome synth sounds, nice
thanks :-)
Wonderful sounding machine
5:02 Love this sound.
beautiful in its simplicity
I like the 106's sound better than the Alpha Juno. IMO it sounds warmer.
sounds very nice! I already have those for Juno 60 and Poly 800 mkII. good chris :-)
I miss my 106 very much every time I hear someone play one..but it was being disused and a friend in a band needed a replacement for their broken Juno-6..It thought it would be nice to give it a better home.
I know this is like 11 years into the future but you were/ are a good friend.
The 106 somehow sounds modern. It's like a good soft synth but better. It's looks so dam fine as well!
106 sounds like people wish their VST's did
Loved my 106, would be great to get another just to mess with..
9:57 Amy Grant, "Baby baby"? Very nice sounds, great job! I own a Juno 106 and use it all the time.
gmsvensson yes, some kind of ;-) thanks

holy krap, that sounds amazing
Brilliant. I have one.
Should never have sold mine! Still miss it!!!
Just got mine out of the closet and fixed the bad chip in it. Good as new now.
Ahhr the chip problem me too.
Very nice programming and playing !!
thanks!
Good, the blue buttons on mine have turned green too.
yes, after all these years, buttons get yellowed... also the case with the Polysix, its buttons were originally white, not yellow
I wonder if the cleaning solution for dealing with yellowed 80s/70s computers and whatnot would work here? retr0bright.com/
I have no doubts that it will. Give it a go!
The green buttons aren't hurting anything, and they still work.
they hurting the eyes ;-) I like the original blue better... but anyway, I can live with it, it's not new
i used to own one.. it is unbelieveable
Estupenda demo!! Pero alguien tenía que hacerlo, parece que el único Juno grande sea el 60, y el sonido del 106 bien editado es precioso, aunque diferentes...

I'm not even thinking about buying a Juno (or any poly), but I still had to watch this when I saw it.
6:30 - 6:30 awesome cosmic planetary sound textures

Im new to synthesis, but I was also looking at Korg MS2000's since they're a little cheaper. What do you think between these two synths?
The MS2000 is more complex and virtual analog like your vsts.... I thought you want a "real" synth... ;-)
Definitely I want a real synth, I'm going with the juno thanks ;) I can use effect pedals with it correct?
of course
This makes it seems like most modern synths are harsh and brittle sounding. Analog all the way!
If by harsh you mean "not muffled and drowned in exaggerated chorus" (though I have to admit the filter is pretty good).
Is it possible to choose im what bank (a or b) you want the presets?
yes, of course
Juno = simple & straight, thats the beauty with it (them)... bright freq. on this one tend to sound sharp/thin sometimes (like JX-8P). The bass machine for Dr. Alban's 'no coke'!

Real shame Roland won't do a proper reissue, I'd for sure buy one.
Well, they have the Juno X now, haha
ROLAND JUNO-106
Will these patches work with roland cloud juno 106?
these patches were produced with the original for the original.
The sound of the Juno 106 reminds me of the Rainbow Apple logo.

Nice. Im going to get these when I get my 106. What cables and AD converter are u using?
RME HDSP 9632 converter

6:22 That's a nice bell sound! Any effects used?
the bell sound comes dry from the Juno-106's outputs. The internal chorus was used
How exactly was it made? Any resonance used?

Hey buddy, what type of patch or name of the patch is @ 2:42 minute mark? Thanks....awesome synth..
it's a synth brass
excellent demo as always thanks !
Will these patches work on a Roland JX-3P??
Juno-106 patches are only for the Juno-106. Not for JX-3P, not for Jupiter-8, not Memorymoog, not for DX7....
hi, please tell me how you did patch 4.22 ?

It sounds to me very similar to the Poly800
+KurtFuller more like Poly 61, but in my opinion both (Poly800, and Poly61) are very cool, and uderrated synths.
ok guys im in between a prophet 6 or a juno 106, which one would you pick?
apples or oranges, what would you pick? :-) different sound - flexible analog synth vs. basic iconic analog synth
AnalogAudio1 decisions,decisions,decisions
I personally prefer simple and iconic things in life - Juno-106.
Yeah i agree with you but i might have to get them both.
Felipe Duenas prophet 5 with a juno 106

Tame impala synth
1.10 ..everything she wants ..stabs
it had digital oscillators!its not really an analogue synth and only 6 voices for a digital cheap synth its pretty low they could give 8 or 10
digitally controlled oscillators, not digital oscillators :-)
