You can buy these patches - read the description for further details (scroll down).
Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer Roland Alpha Juno(1) from 1985.
In this movie I play some of my own sounds - on some sounds I added a small amount of delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000 or reverb from a Lexicon MPX-500. But no compressors or eq.
The Alpha Juno has a similar voice architecture to the earlier Junos - but on the Alpha some things were enhanced: backlit display, variable chorus speed, a more complex envelope, the envelope can be routed to the pitch, additional waveforms for DCO and sub oscillator, the PWM has its own dedicated LFO, key velocity and aftertouch (can be routed to filter or/and volume).

Just wow... as good as the JX8p but with more sounds
1:38 sounds so warm and nostalgic with the brass patch. It reminds me of 80's movie music.
This was my second synth and the first I bought with my own money as a teenager.
8:40 is the best part.
The Alpha Juno 1 was my first synth and I loved it so much that I immediately bought an MKS-50, its rackmount equivalent, as well. The keyboard is long gone but I still have the rackmount!
4:14 sounds sick, I borrowed one of these keyboards from my friend for a few months one time, and thought it sounded pretty good, but this demo sounds totally awesome
Excellent demo of a great synth.
jamie munro thanks :-)
great demo u guys have a great channel very much appreciated thanks for your contributions on youtube!
thanks!
I'm between those two synth right now, did you buy one ?
In the The Stepfather (1987), the Roland Alpha Juno-2 patch “Hoover” was heard.
It does so much more than that sound, people unfortunately focus on the same thing too much another one is the dreaded “It sounds like Blade Runner” boring.
Вот это звук! Аж мурашки по коже, звуки детства, жаль сейчас никто на них не исполняет композиции в старом стиле.
That is the sound! Already goosebumps, the sounds of childhood, now no pity on them fails to comply with the composition in the old style.
I was expecting the "Hoover" patch and several clichéd rave sounds, but instead we got a real demo. Good job!! :-)
Cool! Mein erster Synth! Und der läuft immer noch... ;)
Dafür hatte ich sogar einen Editor für den AtariST in GfA-Basic geschrieben.
Nice demo! 👍
Amazing sounding little DCO synth. i always regretted selling mine.
Sounds great!
I just ordered an Alpha Juno 2 only because of this video :-) Great demonstration !
Hope you enjoy it!
How do you like them?
Nice sounds!!👌🏼👌🏼✌
De jolis Pad , Fx , Bass ! Sympa et efficace , bravo
Pretty solid.
Really want one of these
Would be awesome to have this as a Kontakt library as I have no space left for more Synthesizers in my tiny man cave.
Didn't you consider the Roland MKS-50 Rackmodule of the Alpha-Synths?!
In some probably 1985 and probably 1988 songs, the Oberheim DMX and Roland Alpha Juno-1 patch “Noise Shots” are heard and Simmons SDS 8 were heard.
If was my first synth then I bought a U20 that had aftertouch and an arpeggiator and I would use it to play the Alpha 1 and it opened another side to it.
thought I heard john waite at 2:30. devo at 2:39. serious stevie wonder at 6:20.
Sometimes when I close my eyes, I no longer hear a Juno 1 but I hear a Roland Jupiter 8. Why is this???
because of good sound programming? ;-)
gridsleep It's actually a completely different oscillator and filter. The Alpha Juno-1 uses 2 state-variable 12dB filters in series, and the Jupiter 8 uses a 4-pole cascade filter. The Alpha Juno-1 uses DCO's and the Jupiter 8 discrete VCO's. So there is literally no electrical similarity.
They do sound different, yet I'd argue the AJ's still have that Roland sound, just a different flavor of it
God dammit, I just want the Atari sound, looks like I'm listening to it over and over till I can get it right haha.
Juno 1 and 2 has exact same sound? Or are different?
I am planing to buy one of them, but somebody say it is the same, and others that are different, chorus are not the same.... So I want to ask it
I know the big difference are in size and velocity/aftertouch
to my ears they sound identical
The difference is that the 2 had 5 octaves and was touch sensitive. The 1 was only 4 and not touch sensitive. It’s the same sound engine.
Do these work on the MKS-50?
Never tried, I don't know.
I can remember that chord memory preset Nr. 15 with the MKS-50 is unison, i.e 6 voices on one note without this hack (see manual p. 40). Not sure if this works with both keyboard versions (i.e Juno 1 and Juno 2)
great demo! what is the arrpegiator you used?
elioth84 the Doepfer Dark Time Sequencer.
How do you access the custom patches? Do you NEED a computer attached to your system for the custom patches to work?
you load them into your synth via MIDI. You need a computer with MIDI interface. Exact instructions are included in the package.
Nice demo :-) I m wondering if I could approach Juno 60 sounds by editing
For some sounds yes, but the filter and chorus are quite different from the earlier Juno's imo.
Yes, that's true.
Have you assign velocity parameters to VCA or VCF for use with midi or JU2?
mmrva yes, of course! It's important, since velocity is received through MIDI on both Alpha Juno 1 and 2.
This one or a Korg Poly800?
I have both and Juno is more solid synth. On the other hand, Poly 800 sounds more "intergalactic".
Poly 800 is nothing but a plastic thing with thin and annoying DCOs and chorus. The filter is feeble from the factory, but moog slayer mod makes it a tad funkier. But this synth is still cheapo. Look for Poly-61 or DW-6000/8000, they sound way better.
nice! I have an alpha Juno 2, what’s the main difference between the 1 and 2?
longer keyboard, velocity and cartridge storage on the Ju2
@@AnalogAudio1 and JU2 has aftertouch (originally - whether it's still working in 2019 is another story)
what matters is that both have the same system and programmability, so you can program velocity and aftertouch parameters in Juno 1 and control the synth externally. that's how I do it. here's an example using only 1 patch ua-cam.com/video/z_StgWifVCg/v-deo.html
for your pads do you use hpf?
I think some of them.
@@AnalogAudio1 I find it hard to get the alpha 1 to have a deep sound on but not overwhelming when making patches. Your tones sound even though!
love this little synth
has some classic sounds
+RAPEE APE Nah mate. You love soft synths. HAHA.
how dare you
3:20, 3:40, 8:40 are best for me)
if only it had an arpeggiator
1986 was wrong and 1985 was right.
A sincere thank you.
Scott Birch You're welcome.
In the Roland Alpha Juno-1 patch “Unknown”? was heard in FrankJavCee - Simpsonwave1995.
0:19 to 1:16, Love it :)
Wow, that is my kind of sound
Love my DX7, this one will match perfect🤙🏻
i don't like to finger around with various parameters. Edit the sounds in my Digitakt, envelope, filter….
The filter decay time on that first patch is rad!! Nice work through out as usual!!
thanks!
So it sounds a whole lot like a Juno-106.
Yeah, the analog Roland sound...
At 3:17 you accidentally played leitmotif from "Little Prince" album by Marek Biliński. It's also analog synth-based.

it's a different melody, and never heard of that :-D
@@AnalogAudio1 maybe not entire melody, but the beginning of it. Check out his '80s albums, you won't be disappointed.
Pretty nice upgrade
Bellissimi suono
Das ist echt ein Wolf im Schafspelz.Von aussen gesehen ahnt man nicht was für großartige Leads und
Flaechensounds in diesem kleinen Synthi stecken.Tolle Demo von diesem Klassiker.;-)
MrSkywalker1000 das ist wohl wahr.... danke!
Is it still possible to buy the sample pack?
Still selling, but these are sound settings for the Alpha Juno, not a sample pack. If you wish to purchase, see description for contact.
If you had to pick between the Alpha Juno 1 and the DW6000 which would you go for?
Also have you ever tried the Ensoniq Mirage?
CheersAlex
hard to say... I don't like samplers very much, I found it impossible to work with the Mirage. But I have a Prophet-2000, but unfortunately 2 voices do not sound.
AnalogAudio1 what about between the DW/Alpha 1?
different personalities, you can't say one is better than the other
totally different, user of αJ2/DW8000 here. Would go with the αJ2, if I had to choose. Better sound overall.
