Excellent video. I’ve been going through the hassle of seven 5-gallon bottle each for gas and diesel. I’m going to follow your advice and do this! Many thanks!!
I've used surecan since the beginning for my company. I had two that I bought at the same time that cracked. I called them and they sent me two new ones even though I was a year passed the warranty. They're expensive but worth every penny. Even for the average home owner. Not to mention how much of a back saver they are!
Thanks. I’ve been using this a couple of years but I actually bought a smaller tank for gas and just set it up today. I’m going to use both of these for diesel
Your right fork came almost dislodged enough to drop your tank. You might want to consider outer boards under the plywood. Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Bought this exact same tank at Tractor Supply. Installed a 8gpm GPI pump, mounted on a Ironton 4x4 trailer. When I went to remove the large Better Built decal, that's when I noticed it said for diesel only. I call Better Built tech support, asked what the big deal was if I used it for Gasoline. They got real concerned, they said it's not DOT approved, and becuase it's made of mild steel, and not cold rolled, that the tank will expand in the summer time, and will start to rupture. I'm not a happy camper, I'm now shopping for a diesel generator, or a DOT aproved gasoline transfer tank. I called JME tanks, they said you gotta use the correct pump, or it could give off static discharge and cause an explosion.
I made a 2x4 square underneath them then did 3 or 4 inch wheels on each corner. Then I can wheel it around garage. I’m trying to figure out a 110 to 12v conversion so I can just run it off the wall plug. Right now I just use the terminals on side of tractor that run into the starter. Hook to the positive and find a ground. Like the bolts for the loader arm.
I have a 100 gal diesel transfer tank and built-in electric pump/hose. Since I've never used for diesel and need to carry and store gasoline was wondering if it's ok to fill the tank with gasoline, especially the pump motor says it's 'explosion proof'? Thanks for sharing...
It’s not a cheap set up but it was very easy to do and it’s fantastic to never have to worry about filling up the gas can with diesel. Just drive over and fill the tractor
I like it but no truck so would have to figure out how to get it on and off my trailer. Would definitely be nice though. Agree on the stupid cans and the hassle.
Rockhill farm and homes in considering a new trailer that I can get stuff on and off with my forks... current one can’t get close enough and over the rail.
I'm just trying to have one for my truck bed to have spare gas for my pressure washer on the job, and for to top off my gasser super duty only gonna buy rectangle one only fill it up to 20 gallons or 15 gallons
@@RockhillfarmYT I am enjoying your channel and thank you for the comment on the house. It is way behind. We started in May and have been pushed out 4 times thanks to Covid and supplies being behind. We are pushed out until January 2021 and living in an apartment for the first time since 1999 has not been fun with 2 dogs to boot.
Ordered an RDS transfer tank, they are DOT approved. And I'm not going to install a 12-volt pump to it, I'm gonna play it safe and install a GPI hand crank pump. The problem with the Better Built transfer tank is there is no pressure relief valve. And this RDS tank I ordered is made of aluminum, so no worry about rust building up and then contaminating the fuel. Also, I'm a professional welder, I inspected the welds on the Better Built tank, they are horrible. That's probably why it won't hold up to any pressure from the gasoline fumes. I will be selling or using the Better Built tank for diesel fuel only. Good luck, be safe.
I had to go back and rewatch to see what you meant. That was lime stone dust that scooped up on the end of my forks from the rock floor in the building. It just fell off as I was loading
Follow up video setting these tanks up better ua-cam.com/video/zrzUGLFNLYY/v-deo.html I forgot to mention in the video that When using a portable refueling station for gasoline, it is important to ground the fuel container to the truck bed to prevent static electricity build up which could potentially lead to combustion. You should also check your local laws and regulations regarding how much fuel you can legally transport.
Just adding to this comment. Federal law, 49 cfr 173. For gasoline, any containers over 8 gallons require training and documentation to transport regardless if it's for private use. You can carry containers that are 8 gallons or less as long as the total weight does not exceed 440 lbs., It's exempt under " Material s of Trade".
I don't burn that much fuel but I still hate todays gas cans. I took two 5 gal sure cans and put them on a shelf in the shed near the door and the ramp. Added a longer hose. Put a shut off on the hose. not a big tank but I had everything already minus the hose and don't have to hold the 40 pound cans forever so not to make a mess on my equipment. A bigger tank to rotate fuel during the summer for mowing and to have a few week of fuel for the generator seems like plan in future.
You can fix that can, but even after that when you’re dealing with multiple machines all the time it’s a royal PIA the one issue is that gas goes bad in a few months, so unless it’s diesel you can’t store a lot & forget about it. I’ve got a big truck that I run on my bio fuel mix & when I get busy I can’t refuel every week & cans get annoying. I’ve got a tank already for the truck just haven’t installed it yet, probably will this summer when I get busy.
I have these two 50 gallon tanks. What is gas in the others diesel. I feel them both once every couple months And I put fuel treatment in them when I feel them. Had it for almost a year and it seems to work great
I built one as a reserve tank for my diesel generator. I bought a broken Craftsman air compressor from Craigslist for $25. Its a vertical 60 gallon tank with electric pump, big filter, 12 foot hose. Its bolted to the foundation and a wall in case The Big One hits one night. I still have to fill it with plastic jugs but the electric pump with dip tube makes it a 50 second job per jug. It filters fuel both coming and going. The tank is ASME certified and has a double bottom that must be 1/2 inch thick. It will never rust out in my life time.
I have a question, I bought a transfer tank with the pump and all that on it, didn't realize it says diesel only and in the manual said only to be used with diesel, is there any difference with the pumps if i wanted to put gas in it instead or is it gonna blow up on me🤣🤣
OMG I hate those gas cans it would be different probably if they designed something easy to use but they don't at least not that I have seen. When I was a kid they had the just lift and poor and gas would go everywhere and you have to clean it off your mower engine or wait until you used it until the gas was gone. now its like use the remaining muscles you have left in an awkward position to press down on something pretty hard to do to get a few gals or even a 1/3rd gal container that's probably just balance to hold itself up.
The only gas cans I found that don’t have some kind of a stupid mechanism on the nozzle are the Cans designed for racing because they have to be able to pour it in quickly on pitstops.
Just Rite makes 5 gallon heavy duty steel gas and diesel cans with squeeze trigger handle and flex steel spout. Its easy to use without spilling. I have a red can and a yellow can. I painted on Mustard and Ketchup so I won't be confused.
I’ve been using this set up for over a year now. Works great The only change I made is designating a spot for the tanks and hooking them up to a solar panel
FYI, while that 50 gallon tank is perfectly legal on the road for carrying Diesel, I do believe it is ILLEGAL for transporting gasoline. Might want to check, DOT fines are steep.
A separate tank from the vehicle's fuel system (for gasoline transport) is restricted to 400 pounds *fuel capacity*. Gasoline weighs 6 pounds to the gallon which means 66.7 gallons is the theoretical maximum for a separate transport tank - unless the "auxiliary tank" is "permanently" installed as part of the transport vehicle's fuel system. My 100 gallon tank in the bed of my truck is "permanently" attached to the fuel system through a flexible fuel line (with shut off) from the in-bed tank pump. Like ALL vehicle fuel tanks it can be detached and removed for maintenance. Don't forget a water/sludge filter because you WILL need it to keep the fuel clean. - Joe -
JAMES Hussey The tank was $300, the pump was $280(I almost bought a hand pump for $80). $60 for the filter and installation kit. Looks like about $700. I already had the battery The set up is very convenient
